    We used observational data reflecting the number of phone calls made to national crisis hotlines in Austria and Germany during the COVID-19 pandemic (January 2020-April 2020) to investigate the impact of government restrictions as well as their later revocations on public mental health. Importantly, both countries have comparable health care systems, are similar in their political and socio-economic idiosyncrasies, and took similar restrictive government measures in order to contain COVID-19-but implemented them at different points in time.

This increase seemed to occur at around the same time as the implementation of restrictive governmental responses. Echo-derived global circumferential strain (GCS) was used to test whether AVR for aortic stenosis (AS) or aortic insufficiency (AI) resulted in differential aortic biomechanics in the descending thoracic aorta.

In the multivariate-adjusted model, an association between dietary acrylamide intake and pancreatic cancer risk was not demonstrated (hazard ratio for the highest vs. lowest quartile = 0.83, 95% confidence interval 0.65-1.05, p for trend = 0.07). Complication events were assessed for each participant during the study period. Eighty-five (73.3%) patients developed complications. Regarding blood parameters, higher values of lymphocytes and albumin were predictive factors at the 12-month follow-up once the ulcer had healed.     We conducted a retrospective observational study of patients with newly diagnosed APL in the Shonan Kamakura General Hospital between April 2004 and April 2020. Data of 27 patients with newly diagnosed APL were analyzed. The patients were classified as no AKI and AKI stages 1, 2 or 3.

    The incidence rate of AKI during induction chemotherapy was 40% (11/27). Among patients who developed AKI, four patients experienced AKI stage 3, and two patients required renal replacement therapy. No significant differences were found in the white blood cell count and baseline renal function between the groups; however, D-dimer and C-reactive should be avoided in patients with newly diagnosed APL, and using alternative non-nephrotoxic drugs should be considered for patients at risk of AKI.

    espite the limitations of studying a syndrome that can only occur in a small, discrete population, we present a thorough overview of the literature surrounding SANS and several key areas important for future research are identified. Human immunodeficiency virus and anemia are the major public health problems in Sub-Sahara Africa. Untreated anemia is associated with rapid progression and poor prognosis of the disease in HIV. This study was aimed at determining the magnitude, severity and associated factors of anemia among HIV infected patients taking zidovudine and tenofovir-containing first-line HAART in Ayder Comprehensive Specialized Hospital, Mekele, Ethiopia. A case-control study was conducted from February to August 2019 using both convenient and quota sampling methods. Anemia is defined as hemoglobin value below 13 g/dl for male and below 12 g/dl for female. Sociodemographic and clinical characteristics were assessed using a structured questionnaire, medical records, electronic weighing scale, adult height board, automated hematology analyzer (Sysmex XT-4000i), and Becton Dickinson's FACS caliber flow cytometer. In a cross-sectional study, 75 randomly selected female students from different colleges were tested for VO using a COSMED system for maximum exercise testing. Blood parameters and globin genotyping were determined. Hemoglobin genetic studies revealed 28 of the students had 3.7 α-globin deletion only ( α /α α ), five had SCT, and 42 had normal α-globin (α α /α α and no HbS) and were considered the control group. Subjects with α /α α showed significantly lower VO and higher resting systolic blood pressure, while SCT carriers showed no difference in regard to ventilatory parameters, but had higher post-exercise systolic blood pressure than controls.   • The study conducted by Hilton (2016) focused on open educational resources (OER) by analyzing the findings of 16 studies that investigated (a) the influence of OER on academic learning outcomes at the tertiary context, and (b) students' and instructors' perceptions of OER in their teaching and learning contexts. Hilton's analysis of the findings of these studies indicated two major findings (1) when students use OER, they obtain the same learning outcomes as with traditional textbooks while saving money; and (2) both students and teachers find OER comparable to traditional learning resources in terms of quality. Several advantages of OER were also revealed. These included low or no cost of OER, perceived ease of reading and access, their ability to provide the same learning outcomes as traditional materials, and students' and instructors' positive perceptions. By indicating the role of OER in obtaining the same or similar learning, the study has also suggested that OER be considered useful sources for classes and also a valid replacement for commercial textbooks. However, we also need to consider the context where OER will be used and how OER are designed and used in this context since these two determine whether OER will work and suffice. This article considers the contextual factors and design of OER, and the limitations of Hilton's work in addition to several ideas and suggestions for further research regarding OER in online and face-to-face instruction.Schools across the world have been shifting to remote learning options as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to spread. (Educ Tech Res Dev 65125-145) present a descriptive model of the design process that reports findings from a qualitative study investigating the design processes of 30 instructors from 16 Australian universities through semi-structured interviews. This exploratory study provides rich, contextualized descriptions about university teachers' design process and pinpoints key design characteristics as top-down, breadth-first, iterative, responsive, and reflective. These key design characteristics revealed by the rich contextual descriptions could provide applicable insights into the design process especially for new instructors. The findings of the study could inform how learning design could be adapted during an emergency remote teaching (ERT) as it is dynamic and open to revision. A noteworthy limitation of the study is that complementary data such as design artifacts could be utilized to ensure data triangulation in addition to self-reported data obtained via interviews. The study found that university instructors' design process did not appear to draw on instructional design models. Therefore, future studies could focus on to what extent and how such models could be used by university instructors. Lastly, future studies may explore how technology is used in ERT design to support their needs. In this article, I share how design can be informed by humanizing pedagogy and pedagogy of care during ERT.To suggest sound practices in obtaining the faculty design talent needed to rapidly deploy or scale up digital learning, this paper adopts a systems view of the findings and implications of "The Process of Designing for Learning Understanding University Teachers' Design Work" by Bennett et al. (Educational Technology Research and Development 65(1), 125-145, 2017). Bennett et al.'s article makes an important contribution to our growing understanding of faculty capacity for and approaches to course design. Their work establishes faculty roles as designers, which is an essential consideration as institutions seek digital design talent. Nevertheless, important limitations of their research are limited detail about faculty design skills and an emphasis on how faculty design resembles others' design approaches. This paper suggests specific ways that institutions can apply and extend insights from Bennett et al.'s research to cultivate faculty design talents in nimble responses to large-scale or rapid shifts to digital learning through practices of professional development and strategic faculty hiring.

  • Spermatozoon is a motile cell with a special ability to travel through the woman's reproductive tract and fertilize an oocyte. To reach and penetrate the oocyte, spermatozoa should possess progressive motility. Therefore, motility is an important parameter during both natural and assisted conception. The global trend of progressive reduction in the number and motility of healthy spermatozoa in the ejaculate is associated with increased risk of infertility. Therefore, developing approaches for maintaining or enhancing human sperm motility has been an important area of investigation. In this review we discuss the physiology of sperm, molecular pathways regulating sperm motility, risk factors affecting sperm motility, and the role of sperm motility in fertility outcomes. In addition, we discuss various pharmacological agents and biomolecules that can enhance sperm motility in vitro and in vivo conditions to improve assisted reproductive technology (ART) outcomes. This article opens dialogs to help toxicologists, clinicians, andrologists, and embryologists in understanding the mechanism of factors influencing sperm motility and various management strategies to improve treatment outcomes.Preference-based measures allow patients to report their level of health, and the responses are then scored using preference weights from a representative general population sample for use in cost utility analysis. The development process of new preference-based measures should ensure that valid items are selected to reflect the constructs of interest included in the measure and that are suitable for use in preference-elicitation exercises. Existing criteria on patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) development were reviewed, and additional considerations were taken into account in order to generate criteria to support development of new preference-based measures. Criteria covering 22 different aspects related to item selection for preference-based measures are presented. These include criteria related to how items are phrased to ensure accurate completion, the coverage of items in terms of range of domains as well as focus on current outcomes and whether items are suitable for valuation. The criteria are aimed at supporting the development of new preference-based measures with discussion to ensure that even where there is conflict between criteria, issues have been considered at the item selection stage. This would minimize problems at valuation stage by harmonizing established criteria and expanding lists to reflect the unique characteristics of preference-based measures.

Taking this perspective, we review how the different factors that typically influence Sense of Agency affect Social Agency, and in the process highlight outstanding empirical questions within the field. Finally, concepts from wider research areas are discussed in relation to the ecological validity of Social Agency paradigms, and we provide recommendations for future methodology.
    Contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has the potential to replace angiographic evaluation of atherosclerosis. While studies have investigated contrast agent (CA) uptake in atherosclerotic plaques, exact CA spatial distribution on a microscale is elusive. The purpose of this study was to investigate the microdistribution of gadolinium (Gd)- and iron (Fe) oxide-based CA in atherosclerotic plaques of New Zealand White rabbits.

    The study was performed as a post hoc analysis of archived tissue specimens obtained in a previous in vivo MRI study conducted to investigate signal changes induced by very small superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (VSOP) and Gd-BOPTA. For analytical discrimination from endogenous Fe, VSOP were doped with europium (Eu) resulting in Eu-VSOP. Formalin-fixed arterial specimens were cut into 5-μm serial sections and analyzed by immunohistochemistry (IHC Movat's pentachrome, von Kossa, and Alcian blue (pH1.0) staining, anti-smooth muscle cell actin (anti-SMA), and anti-rabbit macrophage (anti-RAM-11) immunostaining) and elemental microscopy with laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) and synchrotron radiation μX-ray fluorescence (SR-μXRF) spectroscopy.

Reviewing the empirical evidence and the commonalities and differences between different instantiations of Social Agency, we propose that Social Agency can be conceptualized as a continuum, in which the degree of cooperation is the key dimension that determines our Sense of Agency, and how it relates to nonsocial Sense of Agency. Taking this perspective, we review how the different factors that typically influence Sense of Agency affect Social Agency, and in the process highlight outstanding empirical questions within the field. Finally, concepts from wider research areas are discussed in relation to the ecological validity of Social Agency paradigms, and we provide recommendations for future methodology. Although various local and systemic conditions influence changes in nails, nearly 50% is due to fungal infections. We surveyed the health professions student population to gain insight into how future medical professionals may approach this condition and to explore perceptions of onychomycosis, treatments, and effects on quality of life.

    The primary outcome measure was a self-reported online Google Forms survey developed by the authors and sent to podiatric, allopathic, and osteopathic medical students and nursing students in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

    Of the 245 respondents, 92% agreed that toenail fungus is both a health and a cosmetic concern. Seventy-seven percent of respondents said "yes" when asked if they would seek treatment, and 67% would wait 1 month to 1 year to see a medical professional. When seeking treatment, 57% reported that they would see a primary-care physician issional, and effects on quality of life persist. It is not reasonable for all medical professionals to effectively recognize and treat nail disease, but it is paramount that patients are directed to medical professionals who can accurately exclude other conditions to alleviate social and financial burdens patients may face due to onychomycosis.

    Forefoot and rearfoot angular displacement and foot plantar pressure and area were collected in 30 participants while they performed the following tasks stair descent, single-leg step down, single-leg squat, single-leg landing, and drop vertical jump. Repeated-measures analyses of variance were used to investigate differences between tasks with α = 0.05.

    Single-leg squat and stair descent had increased foot total plantar area compared with single-leg landing (P = .005 versus .027; effect size [ES] = 0.66), drop vertical jump (P = .001 versus P = .001; ES = 0.38), and single-leg step down (P = .01 versus P = .007; ES = 0.43). Single-leg landing and single-leg step down had greater foot total plantar area compared with drop vertical jump (P = .026 versus P = .014; ES = 0.54). There were differences also in rearfoot and midfoot plantar area and pressure and forefoot plantar pressure.

    Differences in foot-striking pattern, magnitude of ground reaction force, and task speed might explain these findings. Clinicians should consider these findings to improve decisions about tasks used during rehabilitation of patients with foot conditions.

    Medical students (MSs) in allopathic and osteopathic medical programs may not be adequately exposed to the role of podiatric physicians and surgeons in health care. We explored perceptions of the specialty field of podiatric medicine from the perspective of MSs in the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, area.

    In this cross-sectional survey study, responses regarding podiatric education and scope of practice were collected via a 16-question, self-reported, anonymous online survey distributed to MSs at one osteopathic and three allopathic medical schools in the Philadelphia area. Inferences and conclusions were drawn from the percentages of respondents. Statistical analyses for school of attendance, year of study, and physician relative subgroups were performed.

    The 129 survey responses obtained revealed misunderstandings regarding podiatric education and training. Only 45.7% correctly answered that podiatric medical students do not take the United States Medical Licensing Examination. The results also showed thetive of other members of the health-care team to improve interprofessional relations and understanding.The Lauge-Hansen classification does not cover all types of ankle injuries. The present report details three cases of exceptional fragment of the medial tibia that differed from the traditional Lauge-Hansen supination-external rotation and pronation-external rotation fracture patterns.     To review the diagnostic and therapeutic procedures of patients diagnosed with Endometrial Stromal Sarcoma (ESS) and Undifferentiated Uterine Sarcoma (USS) at our institution and investigate their clinical outcomes and factors affecting prognosis.

    We retrospectively collected demographic data, preoperative diagnostic methods and therapeutic management of patients treated for ESS and UUS between January 1995 and December 2019 at Vall d'Hebron Barcelona Hospital Campus, Spain. Overall survival and disease-free survival were calculated. Cox proportional-hazards regression models were calculated.

    Sixty-three patients were included in the study, of which 51(81%) had a diagnosis of ESS and 12(19%) of UUS. Twenty patients (31.7%) were diagnosed after a previous non-oncologic surgery, and 12 of them (60%) suffered from tumor disruption. Cytoreductive procedures were needed in 29 patients (46%), and optimal cytoreductionwas achieved in 80.9% of the patients. The median follow-up was 7.6years (IQR = 0.99-14.31). , optimal surgery and histological type were significantly correlated with survival in the global cohort, whilst adjuvant radiotherapy correlated with improved survival in HG-ESS and UUS patients.The ectomycorrhizospheric habitat contains a diverse pool of organisms, including the host plant, mycorrhizal fungi, and other rhizospheric microorganisms. Current acellular pertussis (aP) vaccines do not induce the long-term immune response observed after natural infection in humans. In this study, we evaluated the durability of protection from intranasal (i.n.) pertussis vaccines in ****. **** that convalesced from B. pertussis infection served as a control group. **** were immunized with a **** vaccine (phosphate-buffered saline [PBS]), aP only, or an aP base vaccine combined with one of the following adjuvants alum, curdlan, or purified whole glucan particles (IRI-1501). We utilized two study designs short term (challenged 35 days after priming vaccination) and long term (challenged 6 months after boost). The short-term study demonstrated that immunization with i.n. vaccine candidates decreased the bacterial burden in the respiratory tract, reduced markers of inflammation, and induced significant serum and lung antibody titers. In the long-term study, protection from bacterial challenge mirrored the results observed in the short-term challenge study. Immunization with pertussis antigens alone was surprisingly protective in both models; however, the alum and IRI-1501 adjuvants induced significant B. pertussis-specific IgG antibodies in both the serum and lung and increased numbers of anti-B. pertussis IgG-secreting plasma cells in the bone marrow. Our data indicate that humoral responses induced by the i.n. vaccines correlated with protection, suggesting that long-term antibody responses can be protective.

Complete remission was achieved with remission induction therapy using all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA), and consolidation therapy was completed. Three months after the treatment, left ear closure was observed, and a mass lesion was found in the left external auditory canal. An initial tumor biopsy only revealed inflammatory cell infiltration. Moreover, the tumor's rebiopsy performed 3 months later revealed MPO-positive and CD68-positive granulocyte infiltration. Furthermore, the rebiopsy revealed 4.9×105 copies/µgRNA of PML/RARα, the patient was diagnosed with locally recurrent APL. A bone marrow examination 2 weeks later confirmed an increase in myeloblasts and promyelocytes for the first time since the confirmation of remission. Therefore, it was diagnosed as bone marrow recurrence. Reinduction therapy using ATRA and arsenic trioxide again led to complete remission, after which autologous peripheral blood stem cell transplantation was performed. Currently, complete remission is being maintained. In this case, the recurrence of the external auditory canal lesion preceded the bone marrow recurrence. A histological examination of the breast and lymph node biopsies revealed diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) while the bronchial and salivary gland biopsies showed secondary amyloidosis and Sjögren's syndrome (SjS). According to the Ann Arbor staging, the clinical stage of the lymphoma was evaluated as IIE. The patient achieved a complete remission after six cycles of rituximab, pirarubicin, cyclophosphamide, vincristine, and prednisolone (R-THP-COP) combined with intrathecal chemotherapy to prevent meningeal infiltration and irradiation after chemotherapy. Primary breast lymphoma was diagnosed within 2% of the breast tumor. Only sixteen male cases of breast lymphoma have been previously reported. The PML/RARA fusion signal was identified on chromosome 15 by metaphase FISH. The patient was diagnosed of therapy-related acute promyelocytic leukemia (t-APL) with cryptic PML/RARA. He successfully attained molecular complete remission with all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA) and two courses of arsenic trioxide (ATO). He was subsequently administered nivolumab without ATRA maintenance therapy because of a progressing metastasis of a hypopharyngeal cancer to the lung. The patient had a relapse of t-APL following nine courses of nivolumab, 8 months after ending consolidation therapy with ATO. Reinduction therapy with ATRA was not effective for the relapsed t-APL that was accompanied by del (5q) and monosomy 7. Little has been previously reported on t-APL with cryptic PML/RARA. Therefore, the clinical course of this patient may provide useful insights about the characteristics of t-APL with cryptic PML/RARA.Central venous catheter (CVC) insertion is an essential medical procedure in patients with hematologic disorders. Total 809 PICCs were inserted in 316 patients with hematologic disorders. The insertion side was the right upper arm for 515 PICCs and the left upper arm for 294 PICCs. In a direct comparison between the insertion side groups, there was no obvious difference in the basic demographic characteristics of the patients except the age at the time of insertion. Moreover, there was no significant difference in the reasons for PICC removal, and the incidence of catheter-related bloodstream infection was similar and low in both the study groups. During the selection of the insertion side for PICC, it may be possible to consider the side that seems more suitable for insertion by confirming the vessels in both upper arms with ultrasonography, and, if the conditions are equivalent, to consider the side where the patient wishes to insert the PICC.Plerixafor is increasingly used in combination with granulocyte-colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) for peripheral blood stem cell collection. Although it is an expensive drug, its cost-benefit performance is not well investigated. Thus, we analyzed its cost-effectiveness in our hospital. A retrospective observational analysis was performed in patients who underwent stem cell collection between December 2013 and November 2018. A total of 203 patients were investigated and classified into three groups according to their pre-mobilization regimen G-CSF alone, G-CSF and cyclophosphamide (G+CY), and G-CSF and plerixafor (G+plerixafor). The cost-effectiveness of apheresis of the collected cluster of differentiation (CD) 34+ cells was assessed based on two viewpoints cost of drugs and cost of equipment. Due to the high cost of plerixafor, the cost of apheresis was higher in patients who received G+plerixafor. However, the difference narrowed when we calculated the cost to collect 2.0×106 CD34+ cells/kg body weight required for a single transplant.
