The opportunistic pathogen Streptococcus gallolyticus subsp. gallolyticus was recently shown to outcompete commensal enterococci of the murine microbiota under tumoral conditions thanks to the production of a two-peptide bacteriocin named gallocin. Using a unique nonhuman primate model that mimics human pregnancy and informs temporal events surrounding amniotic cavity invasion and preterm labor, we show that the animals inoculated with hyaluronidase (HylB)-expressing GBS consistently exhibited microbial invasion into the amniotic cavity, fetal bacteremia, and preterm labor. Although delayed cytokine responses were observed at the maternal-fetal interface, increased prostaglandin and matrix metalloproteinase levels in these animals likely mediated preterm labor. HylB-proficient GBS dampened reactive oxygervical ripening and preterm labor. These observations reveal that HylB is a crucial GBS virulence factor that promotes bacterial invasion and preterm labor in a pregnancy model that closely emulates human pregnancy. However, a functional copy of nsdC in one mating partner was sufficient to allow sexual reproduction. Deletion of nsdC also led to decreased vegetative growth and allowed conidiation in liquid cultures, again consistent with previous findings. However, NsdC in A. fumigatus was shown to have additional biological functions including response to calcium stress, correct organization of cell wall structure, ansdC transcription factor, which was initially identified in a screen of transcription factor null mutants showing sensitivity when exposed to high concentrations of calcium. In addition to its known essential roles in sexual reproduction and control of growth rate and asexual reproduction, we have shown in the present study that A. fumigatus NsdC transcription factor has additional previously unrecognized biological functions including calcium tolerance, cell wall stress response, and correct cell wall organization and functions in virulence and host immune recognition. The most 13C-enriched taxa were cellulolytic Cellvibrio (Gammaproteobacteria) and Chaetomium (Ascomycota), which exhibited a strategy of self-sufficiency (prototrophy), rapid growth, and competitive exclusion via antibiotic production.

Until now, there are no studies on the interaction between the aphid Rhopalosiphum padi and the plant pathogenic fungus Parastagonospora nodorum causal agent of septoria nodorum blotch (SNB) on wheat. Controlled experiments were conducted to determine (i) The preference and reproduction of aphids on P. nodorum inoculated and non-inoculated wheat plants and (ii) the effect of prior aphid infestation of wheat plants on SNB development. The preference and reproduction of aphids was determined by releasing female aphids on P. nodorum inoculated (SNB+) and non-inoculated (SNB-) wheat leaves. The effect of prior aphid infestation of wheat plants on SNB development was determined by inoculating P. nodorum on aphid-infested (Aphid+) and aphid free (Aphid-) wheat plants. Higher numbers of aphids moved to and settled on the healthy (SNB-) leaves than inoculated (SNB+) leaves, and reproduction was significantly higher on SNB- leaves than on SNB+ leaves. Aphid infestation of wheat plants predisposed the plants to P. nodorum infection and colonization. These results are important to understand the interactions between multiple pests in wheat and hence how to develop new strategies in future integrated pest management (IPM).Due to its physical and chemical properties, the n-type tungsten oxide (WO3) semiconductor is a suitable photoanode for water decomposition reaction. Slump-retaining polycarboxylate superplasticizer (TS) slightly slows down the physical flocculation rate, but increases the maximum operational time of the cement paste. Nano clay significantly increases the sort-term structural build-up rate and has the function of internal curing and water retaining. Composite with nano-clay and TS can reduce the loss of surface moisture of 3D printed layers, prevent the formation of interface weak layer, and increase the interlayer bond strength between printed layers. The effects of four benzoylphenyl ureas (BPUs) (lufenuron, novaluron, teflubenzuron, and triflumuron) were evaluated against L. gibbicarina for toxicity, survival, reproduction, and mortality in semi-field conditions. Concentration-mortality bioassays demonstrated that novaluron (LC50 = 0.33 ppm), teflubenzuron (LC50 = 0.24 ppm), lufenuron (LC50 = 0.17 ppm), and triflumuron (LC50 = 0.42 ppm) are toxic to L. gibbicarina nymphs. The survival rate was 99% in control nymphs, decreasing to 50% in nymphs exposed to LC50 of triflumuron, 47% in nymphs treated with lufenuron, 43% in nymphs treated with teflubenzuron, and 43% in those treated with novaluron. Sublethal concentrations of BPUs showed detrimental effects on the adult emergence, longevity, fecundity, and fertility of this insect. The mortality of nymphs caused by these insecticides was similar in both laboratory and semi-field conditions. The expression of microRNA‑126 (miRNA/miR‑126) has previously been found to be significantly decreased in the serum of patients with DR. In the present study, the functions of miR‑126 and its mechanisms of action in experimental diabetic retinopathy were examined in rats with streptozotocin (STZ)‑induced diabetes and in high glucose (HG)‑induced human retinal capillary endothelial cells (HRCECs). In vivo, diabetic rat models were established and the rats were intravitreally injected with lentivirus expressing rno‑miR‑126 (lenti‑miR‑126) or negative control (lenti‑NC). RT‑qPCR was used to determine the miR‑126 level in the serum and retina. Paraffin sections and retinal vasculature were used to determine the extent of retinopathy. The protein content of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and pigment epithelium‑derived factor (PEDF) in the retina was used as an auxilihermore, miR‑126 mimic and CFI‑400945 fumarate reduced the HG‑induced upregulation of PLK4 expression, as well as cell proliferation and migration. Heritability was moderate (mean h2 dynamic mean = 0.35, dynamic variance = 0.45, and static = 0.37) and tended to be greater for dynamic variance compared to either dynamic mean or static connectivity. Further, heritability of dynamic variance was reliable across both sessions for several network connections, particularly between higher-order cognitive and visual networks. For both dynamic mean and static connectivity, similar patterns of heritability were found across networks. The findings support the notion that dynamic connectivity is genetically influenced. Based on the results of the optimization process for genome construction, we designed an integrated hybrid de novo assembly pipeline, HSCG, and constructed a draft genome for Duroc pig. Comparison between the new genome and Sus scrofa 11.1 revealed important breakpoints in two S. scrofa 11.1 genes. Our findings may provide new insights into the pan-genome analysis studies of agricultural animals, and the integrated assembly pipeline may serve as a guide for the assembly of other animal genomes.

The pyocyanin secreted as a virulence factor by this bacterium has many beneficial applications but its high cost remains an obstacle for its widespread use. In this study, a total of fifty urine isolates were identified as P. aeruginosa. All strains produced pyocyanin pigment with a range of 1.3-31 µg/ml. The highest producer clinical strain P21 and the standard strain PA14 were used in optimization of pyocyanin production. Among tested media, king's A fluid medium resulted in the highest yield of pyocyanin pigment followed by nutrient broth. Growth at 37 °C was superior in pyocyanin production than growth at 30 °C. Both shaking and longer incubation periods (3-4 days) improved pyocyanin production. The pyocyanin yield was indifferent upon growth of P21 at both pH 7 and pH 8. The main objective of this study is to determine the effect of Autothermal Thermophilic Aerobic Digestion (ATAD) on the fate of TC residues found in digested poultry litter. For the determination of TC in poultry litter, thin layer chromatography (TLC) and high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) were done. TLC result revealed that the Rf value of standard TC on TLC plate was 0.97 which correlates with the Rf value of TC at 0, 12, 24 and 36 h of digested poultry litter sample and not at 48, 60 and 72 h. HPLC chromatogram revealed that the limits of detection and the recovery were 5 µg/kg and 96% for standard TC. Linear correlation curves were obtained over the series of 100-500 µg/mL with correlation coefficient of 0.996 and the calibration curve was Y = 0.001X + 0.066. The bacterial colonies were isolated from soil samples through the serial dilution method. The bacterial isolates were identified through morphological, electron microscopic and molecular analysis. The 16S ribosomal RNA sequences of the isolates IR-1, IR-2, IR-3, IR-8, and IR-9 showed high similarities with Bacillus tequilensis, Bacillus paramycoides, Proteus alimentorum, Bacillus wiedmannii, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, respectively. All of the bacterial isolates showed a positive catalase activity except IR-9. Furthermore, the isolates showed variable antagonistic effects against different bacterial pathogens. All of the strains produced indole acetic acid (IAA), and the concentrations increased in the presence of tryptophan application. The isolates showed the amylase enzyme activity and maximum activity of isolates was achieved in 4% starch concentration. The IR-9 isolate showed the highest amylase activity of 5.9 U/ml. The V max values of the extracellular amylase from different bacterial isolates ranged between 12.90 and 50.00 IU ml-1. The highest producer clinical strain P21 and the standard strain PA14 were used in optimization of pyocyanin production. Among tested media, king's A fluid medium resulted in the highest yield of pyocyanin pigment followed by nutrient broth. Growth at 37 °C was superior in pyocyanin production than growth at 30 °C. Both shaking and longer incubation periods (3-4 days) improved pyocyanin production. The pyocyanin yield was indifferent upon growth of P21 at both pH 7 and pH 8. TLC result revealed that the Rf value of standard TC on TLC plate was 0.97 which correlates with the Rf value of TC at 0, 12, 24 and 36 h of digested poultry litter sample and not at 48, 60 and 72 h. HPLC chromatogram revealed that the limits of detection and the recovery were 5 µg/kg and 96% for standard TC. Linear correlation curves were obtained over the series of 100-500 µg/mL with correlation coefficient of 0.996 and the calibration curve was Y = 0.001X + 0.066. All of the bacterial isolates showed a positive catalase activity except IR-9. Furthermore, the isolates showed variable antagonistic effects against different bacterial pathogens. Nine different base-to-acid ratios (B/A) of raw FA have been explored. The results show that the effects of CaO, SiO2 and Al2O3 vary for different B/A ranges. SiO2 and Al2O3 play positive roles in decreasing the MT and EC of FA4-FA9 with high B/A (B/A 2.61, 4.48, 6.43, 6.90, 8.32, 8.82). CaO plays a positive role in decreasing the MT and EC of FA1 and FA2 with low B/A (B/A 0.22, 0.43). In FA3 (B/A 1.22), the MT and EC of FA cannot be reduced by adding CaO, SiO2 and Al2O3. The addition of B2O3 cannot only further reduce the MT of FA, but also reduce the EC. RESULTS Our data showed that compared with the control group, GMOL group had higher expression of memory-related proteins, decreased inflammatory factors, and enhanced spatial learning and memory ability.CONCLUSION The study results show that GMOL ameliorates cognitive impairment of the normal aged SD rats via enhancing the expression of memory biomarkers and inhibiting inflammatory process. In addition, all of the represented DE-lncRNAs were showed to be downregulated. miR-509-5p and miR-27b-3p were found to interact with target gene polo-like kinase 1 (PLK1) and Cysteine-rich secretory protein2 (CRISP2), respectively. Rs550967205 (A > G) positioned at 3' UTR CRISP2 and rs544604911 (T > C) located at 3' UTR PLK1, with lowest MFE in miRNA-mRNA interaction, were assumed to have possible pathogenic roles linked to spermatogenesis arrest. A Chinese traditional herbal tea (HT) is rich in active ingredients extracted from natural plants. Numerous pharmacological studies showed that HT had the potential to improve health, including antidepression and antioxidant effects. In this study, we proposed a strategy to explore the role and underlying mechanism of HT in improving healthspan of a Caenorhabditis elegans model. First, we found that HT significantly prolonged the lifespan without reducing fertility in worms. Second, stress resistance (oxidative stress and heat stress) was enhanced and Aβ- and polyQ-induced toxicity was relieved significantly by HT treatment. Both fat deposition and age pigment accumulation were found to be significantly reduced in HT-treated worms. The locomotion in mid-late stages was improved, indicating that behavioral mobility was also significantly enhanced. Furthermore, the main components of HT were eighteen polyphenols and two terpenoids. Finally, it was found that this protective mechanism was positively correlated with the insulin/insulin-like growth factor signaling- (IIS-) dependent manner, which went through promoting the nuclear localization of DAF-16 and its downstream ***-3 expression. Recently, NAMPT has been shown to play a crucial role in various diseases associated with oxidative stress. However, the function and regulation of NAMPT in hypertension have not been extensively explored. In the present study, we identified NAMPT as a crucial regulator of hypertension, because NAMPT expression was significantly downregulated in both patients with hypertension and experimental animals. NAMPT knockout (NAMPT+/-) **** exhibited a significantly higher blood pressure and ROS levels after stimulation with angiotensin II (Ang II) than wild-type ****, and the administration of recombinant human NAMPT (rhNAMPT) reversed this effect. In vivo, overexpression of NAMPT protected against angiotensin II- (Ang II-) induced hypertension by inhibiting ROS production via sirtuin 1 in mouse aortic endothelial cells (MAECs) and mouse aortic vascular smooth muscle cells (MOVAs). In turn, NAMPT alleviated the ROS-induced mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathway. METHODS We conducted a systematic review of literature databases (PubMed/MEDLINE, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Google Scholar) to identify English-language publications relevant to population (patients with aesthetic indications [including glabellar lines and wrinkles]); interventions (aboBoNT-A); comparators (no restrictions); outcomes (efficacy, including onset of action and duration of effect); and settings (clinical). A manual search of review paper bibliographies was performed. Structured data extraction was used to enable interstudy analysis. RESULTS Overall, 42 original research papers relevant to aboBoNT-A onset and/or duration were identified. All 24 studies assessing efficacy within one week post-injection demonstrated some response at the first time point assessed, and all 37 studies assessing duration showed some response after 12 weeks. Although methodologies for assessing onset and duration differed, when outcomes were refined by reported mean/median, at least 50 percent of patients responding to treatment, or significance versus placebo or baseline at a given time point, onset was most often reported within 2 to 3 days (7 studies), and as early as 24 hours (2 studies). Duration was most often reported as four months (18 studies), although four studies provided evidence that aboBoNT-A efficacy was maintained at five months and three studies at or after six months post-injection. While the clinical picture has closely mimicked linear morphea, the diagnosis of scleredema was confirmed by the typical histopathological findings. We wish to highlight three patients with moderate-to-severe psoriasis and comorbid depression who were successfully treated with brodalumab. The patients were chosen by an expert panel comprising dermatologists, psychiatrists, and psychologists. Psoriasis disease severity was measured using the Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI) score. All three patients experienced PASI 100 after treatment with brodalumab (N=3). Importantly, depressive symptoms improved or resolved in two out of three patients. A Chinese traditional herbal tea (HT) is rich in active ingredients extracted from natural plants. Numerous pharmacological studies showed that HT had the potential to improve health, including antidepression and antioxidant effects. In this study, we proposed a strategy to explore the role and underlying mechanism of HT in improving healthspan of a Caenorhabditis elegans model. First, we found that HT significantly prolonged the lifespan without reducing fertility in worms. Second, stress resistance (oxidative stress and heat stress) was enhanced and Aβ- and polyQ-induced toxicity was relieved significantly by HT treatment. Both fat deposition and age pigment accumulation were found to be significantly reduced in HT-treated worms. The locomotion in mid-late stages was improved, indicating that behavioral mobility was also significantly enhanced. Furthermore, the main components of HT were eighteen polyphenols and two terpenoids. Finally, it was found that this protective mechanism was positively correlated with the insulin/insulin-like growth factor signaling- (IIS-) dependent manner, which went through promoting the nuclear localization of DAF-16 and its downstream SOD-3 expression. These results suggested that HT had an important role in improving health, which might serve as a promising healthy tea.Hypertension is characterized by endothelial dysfunction, vascular remodeling, and rearrangement of the extracellular matrix. Besides, the pathogenesis of hypertension is closely related to excess generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Nicotinamide phosphoribosyltransferase (NAMPT) is a rate-limiting enzyme in nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) biosynthesis that influences the activity of NAD-dependent enzymes, such as sirtuins, which possess NAD-dependent protein deacetylase activity and cleave NAD during the deacetylation cycle. Recently, NAMPT has been shown to play a crucial role in various diseases associated with oxidative stress. However, the function and regulation of NAMPT in hypertension have not been extensively explored. In the present study, we identified NAMPT as a crucial regulator of hypertension, because NAMPT expression was significantly downregulated in both patients with hypertension and experimental animals. NAMPT knockout (NAMPT+/-) mice exhibited a significantly higher blood pressure and ROS levels after stimulation with angiotensin II (Ang II) than wild-type mice, and the administration of recombinant human NAMPT (rhNAMPT) reversed this effect. In vivo, overexpression of NAMPT protected against angiotensin II- (Ang II-) induced hypertension by inhibiting ROS production via sirtuin 1 in mouse aortic endothelial cells (MAECs) and mouse aortic vascular smooth muscle cells (MOVAs). In turn, NAMPT alleviated the ROS-induced mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathway. In conclusion, NAMPT might be a novel biomarker and a therapeutic target in hypertension.OBJECTIVE We sought to analyze the current literature regarding time to onset and duration of effect of abobotulinumtoxinA (aboBoNT-A, Dysport®/Azzalure®) for upper facial aesthetic indications. METHODS We conducted a systematic review of literature databases (PubMed/MEDLINE, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Google Scholar) to identify English-language publications relevant to population (patients with aesthetic indications [including glabellar lines and wrinkles]); interventions (aboBoNT-A); comparators (no restrictions); outcomes (efficacy, including onset of action and duration of effect); and settings (clinical). A manual search of review paper bibliographies was performed. Structured data extraction was used to enable interstudy analysis. RESULTS Overall, 42 original research papers relevant to aboBoNT-A onset and/or duration were identified. All 24 studies assessing efficacy within one week post-injection demonstrated some response at the first time point assessed, and all 37 studies assessing duration showed some response after 12 weeks. Although methodologies for assessing onset and duration differed, when outcomes were refined by reported mean/median, at least 50 percent of patients responding to treatment, or significance versus placebo or baseline at a given time point, onset was most often reported within 2 to 3 days (7 studies), and as early as 24 hours (2 studies). Duration was most often reported as four months (18 studies), although four studies provided evidence that aboBoNT-A efficacy was maintained at five months and three studies at or after six months post-injection. CONCLUSION This review indicates that aboBoNT-A has a median onset of efficacy of 2 to 3 days and a longer duration of action (3-6 months across studies) than the current labelled minimum treatment interval (12 weeks).Scleredema is an idiopathic condition with specific clincopathological findings, including symmetrical and diffuse nonpitting induration of the upper body and thickened dermis due to deposition of acid mucopolysaccharides. Here, we report a case of linear scleredema in a healthy female patient, who presented with firm induration of the skin over her right shoulder and arm in a Blaschkolinear distribution. The onset was insidious in childhood and stable over several years. While the clinical picture has closely mimicked linear morphea, the diagnosis of scleredema was confirmed by the typical histopathological findings. To the best of our knowledge, linear scleredema is a unique presentation that has not been previously reported.Brodalumab, a first-in-class interleukin-17 (IL-17) receptor blocker, carries a black box warning for suicidal ideation and behavior, yet it is also one of the most powerful biologic agents in our armamentarium. We wish to highlight three patients with moderate-to-severe psoriasis and comorbid depression who were successfully treated with brodalumab. The patients were chosen by an expert panel comprising dermatologists, psychiatrists, and psychologists. Psoriasis disease severity was measured using the Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI) score. All three patients experienced PASI 100 after treatment with brodalumab (N=3). Importantly, depressive symptoms improved or resolved in two out of three patients.   • Necrotizing fasciitis (NF) is a rapidly progressive inflammatory infection of the fascia, with secondary necrosis of the subcutaneous tissues. The severity of the disease depends on the virulence of the organism and host immunity. There is a paucity of reports on the prevalence of NF causing pathogens and management.

    Retrospective data of patients treated for NF were collected from two tertiary care hospitals in Central Malaysia between January 2014 and December 2018.

    A total of 469 NF patients were identified. More than half of the NF patients were males (n = 278; 59.28%). The highest number of cases was found among age groups between 30 and 79, with mean age of 56.17. The majority of the NF cases (n = 402; 85.72%) were monomicrobial. Streptococcus spp. (n = 89; 18.98%), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (n = 63; 13.44%) and Staphylococcus spp. (n = 61; 13.01%) were identified as the top three microorganisms isolated. Among the 469 NF cases, 173 (36.8%) were amputated or dead while 296 (63.1%) recovered. Proteus spp. (n = 19; 12.93%), Klebsiella pneumoniae (n = 18; 12.24%) and Escherichia coli (n = 14; 9.52%) were associated with all types of amputations. The most common antibiotic prescribed was unasyn (n = 284; 60.56%), followed by clindamycin (n = 56; 11.94%) and ceftazidime (n = 41; 8.74%). A total of 239 (61.8%) recovered while 148 (38.2%) were either amputated or dead when managed with the unasyn, clindamycin or ceftazidime.

There is thus increasing evidence that endothelin-1 plays a role in coronary microvascular dysfunction (CMD). We investigated whether elevated endothelin-1 is associated with CMD in patients with coronary artery disease (***). We prospectively studied 49 consecutive *** patients with 1- or 2-vessel disease (age 71 ± 10 years, 43 males). Myocardial blood flow (MBF) was measured by 15O-water PET/CT at rest and during stress, and the coronary flow reserve (CFR) was calculated by dividing the stress MBF by the rest MBF. A CFR of less than 2.0 in non-obstructive regions was defined as a marker of CMD. Eighteen out of 49 (37%) *** patients had CMD. Endothelin-1 in patients with CMD was significantly higher than in those without CMD (2.27 ± 0.81 vs. 1.64 ± 0.48 pg/mL, P = 0.001). Accordingly, univariate ROC analysis showed that the continuous endothelin-1 levels significantly discriminated between the presence and absence of CMD (area under the curve = 0.746 [95%CI 0.592-0.899]). The dichotomous treatment of elevated endothelin-1 as 1.961 pg/mL or more yielded the optimal discriminatory capacity, with a sensitivity of 72.2% and a specificity of 71.0%. High endothelin-1 was still a significant predictor of CMD after adjusting for diabetes mellitus (odds ratio = 6.64 [1.75-25.22], P = 0.005). We retrospectively reviewed 257 patients who underwent TAVI. The Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB), an objective physical status assessment tool, was evaluated pre- and post-TAVI. Patients were divided into two groups (i) patients whose SPPB score declined in the perioperative period (the decline group) and (ii) patients whose SPPB score did not decline in the perioperative period (the non-decline group). The primary endpoint was unplanned hospitalization owing to heart failure or cardiovascular death following TAVI. The mean follow-up period was 385 ± 151 days, mean age was 83.2 ± 5.8 years, and 67% of the patients were women. Sixteen patients required readmission owing to heart failure, and seven experienced cardiovascular-related death.   • Health systems must recognize and plan for the management of swab-negative patients in their COVID-19 clinical management, infection control policies and epidemiological assessments.Vibrational sum-frequency generation (vSFG) spectroscopy allows the study of the structure and dynamics of interfacial systems. In the present work, we provide a simple recipe, based on a narrowband IR pump and broadband vSFG probe technique, to computationally obtain the two-dimensional vSFG spectrum of water molecules at the air-water interface. Using this technique, to study the time-dependent spectral evolution of hydrogen-bonded and free water molecules, we demonstrate that at the interface, the vibrational spectral dynamics of the free OH bond is faster than that of the bonded OH mode.Compared to the abilities of the animal brain, many Artificial Intelligence systems have limitations which emphasise the need for a Brain-Inspired Artificial Intelligence paradigm. This paper proposes a novel Brain-Inspired Spiking Neural Network (BI-SNN) model for incremental learning of spike sequences. BI-SNN maps spiking activity from input channels into a high dimensional source-space which enhances the evolution of polychronising spiking neural populations. We applied the BI-SNN to predict muscle activity and kinematics from electroencephalography signals during upper limb functional movements. The BI-SNN extends our previously proposed eSPANNet computational model by integrating it with the 'NeuCube' brain-inspired SNN architecture. We show that BI-SNN can successfully predict continuous muscle activity and kinematics of upper-limb. For safety reasons, hydrogen peroxide was chosen as the foaming agent. Sodium silicate and hexadecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) are used as additives. Our results showed that after 28 days of curing, the material has better mechanical properties and the early compressive strength of the material was enhanced by sodium silicate. The efficiency of foaming was improved by CTAB. It also proves that copper-nickel smelting **** can be used in expansion material. At the same time, the utilization rate of the copper-nickel smelting **** of this formula can reach 70%, reduce its pollution to the environment.Preterm newborns with germinal matrix-intraventricular hemorrhage (GM-IVH) are at a higher risk of evidencing neurodevelopmental alterations. Present study aimed to explore the long-term effects that GM-IVH have on hippocampal subfields, and their correlates with memory. The sample consisted of 58 participants, including 36 preterm-born (16 with GM-IVH and 20 without neonatal brain injury), and 22 full-term children aged between 6 and 15 years old. All participants underwent a cognitive assessment and magnetic resonance imaging study. GM-IVH children evidenced lower scores in Full Intelligence Quotient and memory measures compared to their low-risk preterm and full-term peers. High-risk preterm children with GM-IVH evidenced significantly lower total hippocampal volumes bilaterally and hippocampal subfield volumes compared to both low-risk preterm and full-term groups. Finally, significant positive correlations between memory and hippocampal subfield volumes were only found in preterm participants together; memory and the right CA-field correlation remained significant after Bonferroni correction was applied (p = .002). In conclusion, memory alterations and both global and regional volumetric reductions in the hippocampus were found to be specifically related to a preterm sample with GM-IVH. Nevertheless, results also suggest that prematurity per se has a long-lasting impact on the association between the right CA-field volume and memory during childhood.There is no consensus on the optimal timing of laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) after percutaneous transhepatic gallbladder drainage (PTGBD) for patients with acute cholecystitis (AC). We retrospectively evaluated patients who underwent LC after PTGBD between 1 February 2016 and 1 February 2020. We divided patients into three groups according to the interval time between PTGBD and LC as follows Group I (within 1 week), (Group II, 1 week to 1 month), and Group III (> 1 month) and analyzed patients' perioperative outcomes. We enrolled 100 patients in this study (Group I, n = 22; Group II, n = 30; Group III, n = 48). We found no significant difference between the groups regarding patients' baseline characteristics and no significant difference regarding operation time and estimated blood loss (p = 0.69, p = 0.26, respectively). The incidence of conversion to open cholecystectomy was similar in the three groups (p = 0.37), and we found no significant difference regarding postoperative complications (p = 0.987). Group I had shorter total hospital stays and medical costs (p = 0.005, p  less then  0.001, respectively) vs Group II and Group III. Early LC within 1 week after PTGBD is safe and effective, with comparable intraoperative outcomes, postoperative complications, and conversion rates to open cholecystectomy. Furthermore, early LC could decrease postoperative length of hospital stay and medical costs.

We enrolled 100 patients in this study (Group I, n = 22; Group II, n = 30; Group III, n = 48). We found no significant difference between the groups regarding patients' baseline characteristics and no significant difference regarding operation time and estimated blood loss (p = 0.69, p = 0.26, respectively).     Impulse control disorders (ICDs) have an increased frequency in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD), mainly because of treatment with dopamine agonists (DA). Factors related with the country of origin (culture, economy, healthcare politics) may impact phenomenology.

    A systematic review following PRISMA guidelines was performed using Pubmed database. Articles published up to 2018 in which the prevalence of ICDs was analyzed were selected.

    Thirty-two studies from 22 countries worldwide were included. The highest prevalence of ICDs in each continent was found in UK (59%), USA (39.1%) and India (31.6%). Frequency of ICDs was higher in those studies with lower mean age, higher proportion of males, whenever a screening instrument was used and whenever prescription of DAs was more common. Prevalence of ICDs was higher in Western countries compared to Asian countries (20.8% vs. 12.8%,
     < 0.001) as it was the proportion of patients treated with DAs (66% vs. 48.2%,

Most causes are genetic and an increasing number of genes are being associated with myoclonus-ataxia syndromes (MAS), due to recent advances in genetic techniques. A proper etiologic diagnosis of MAS is clinically relevant, given the consequences for genetic counseling, treatment, and prognosis.

    Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation in adults (adult-ECMO), a modification of cardiopulmonary bypass is increasingly used. Liberation from mechanical ventilation, or extubation, during adult-ECMO remains a challenge.

    Fourteen volunteers participated with different educational levels (79% Doctor of Medicine, 14% Registered Nurse, 7% Nurse Practitioner), from high-volume ECMO centers of various annual ECMO runs (50% 30-49 ECMO/year, 36% 50-99 ECMO/year, 14% >100 ECMO/year) worldwide (64% North America, 21% South America, 7% Europe, 7% Asia). Seven themes were identified paucity of evidence, mindsets towards using an ECPG, barriers, criteria and benefits of extubation, culture towards extubation and vision of the future. Therefore, we propose an automatic segmentation and classification pipeline based on routinely acquired pre-operative MRI (T1, T1 postcontrast, T2 and/or FLAIR). A 3D U-Net was designed for segmentation and trained on the BraTS 2019 training dataset. After segmentation, the 3D tumor region of interest is extracted from the MRI and fed into a CNN to simultaneously predict grade, IDH mutation and 1p19q co-deletion. Multi-task learning allowed to handle missing labels and train one network on a large dataset of 628 patients, collected from The Cancer Imaging Archive and BraTS databases. Additionally, the network was validated on an independent dataset of 110 patients retrospectively acquired at the Ghent University Hospital (GUH). Segmentation performance calculated on the BraTS validation set shows an average whole tumor dice score of 90% and increased robustness to missing image modalities by randomly excluding input MRI during training. Classification area under the curve scores are 93%, 94% and 82% on the TCIA test data and 94%, 86% and 87% on the GUH data for grade, IDH and 1p19q status respectively.     Data on LCC and cigarette use from 4201 young adult students (mean age=22.8 [SD=2.3]; 35.9% non-Hispanic whites) attending 24 Texas colleges was linked to objective assessments of POS marketing at 220 tobacco retail outlets within one mile of the colleges. Multilevel logistic regression analyses examined the impact of LCC marketing at the POS on use of LCCs and cigarettes currently and 6-months later.

    Participants were, on average, exposed to 43 LCC marketing materials per week. Results from cross-sectional analyses indicated that exposure to LCC POS marketing was associated with higher odds of current use of LCCs (AOR=1.003, 95% CI=1.0002, 1.0053) and cigarettes (AOR=1.006, 95% CI=1.0050, 1.0075). The relationship between LCC POS marketing exposure and LCC use was not significant in longitudinal models; however, exposure to LCC POS marketing at baseline did predict current cigarette use at 6-month follow-up (AOR=1.004, 95% CI=1.0021, 1.0052).
