The αααα isomer, H2-1-αααα, was also obtained by heating a solution of H2-1 in CHCl3 in 60% isolated yield, probably owing to a template effect of the solvent molecule. Remarkably, when an atropisomeric mixture of its zinc complex, Zn-1, was heated at 70 °C in a ClCH2CH2Cl/MeOH mixed solvent, crystals composed of only Zn-1-αααα were formed. The hydrophobic space formed by the four mesityl groups in the αααα isomer can be used for repeatable molecular encapsulation of benzene, and the encapsulation structure was elucidated by powder X-ray diffraction analysis. Heating the solid of an atropisomeric mixture of Zn-1 to 400 °C afforded the ααββ isomer almost quantitatively. On the other hand, the solid of H2-1-αααα can be converted by heating, successively to H2-1-αααβ at 286 °C and then to H2-1-ααββ at 350 °C.The high-spin S2 state was investigated with photosystem II (PSII) from spinach, Thermosynechococcus vulcanus, and Cyanidioschyzon merolae. In extrinsic protein-depleted PSII, high-spin electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) signals were not detected in either species, whereas all species showed g ∼ 5 signals in the presence of a high concentration of Ca2+ instead of the multiline signal. In the intact and PsbP/Q-depleted PSII from spinach, the g = 4.1 EPR signal was detected. These results show that formation of the high-spin S2 state of the manganese cluster is regulated by the extrinsic proteins through a charge located near the Mn4 atom in the Mn4CaO5 cluster but is independent of the intrinsic proteins. The shift to the g ∼ 5 state is caused by tilting of the z-axis in the Mn4 coordinates through hydrogen bonds or external divalent cations. The structural modification may allow insertion of an oxygen atom during the S2-to-S3 transition.Optical spectroscopy is a powerful tool to interrogate quantum states of matter. We present simulation results for the cross-polarized two-dimensional electronic spectra of the light-harvesting system LH2 of purple bacteria. We identify a spectral feature on the diagonal, which we assign to ultrafast coherence transfer between degenerate states. The implication for the interpretation of previous experiments on different systems and the potential use of this feature are discussed. In particular, we foresee that this kind of feature will be useful for identifying mixed degenerate states and for identifying the origin of symmetry breaking disorder in systems like LH2. Furthermore, this may help identify both vibrational and electronic states in biological systems such as proteins and solid-state materials such as hybrid perovskites.

  • Thousands of tons of zeolitic materials are used yearly as soil conditioners and components of slow-release fertilizers. A positive influence of application of zeolites on plant growth has been frequently observed. Because zeolites have extremely large cation exchange capacity, surface area, porosity and water holding capacity, a paradigm has aroused that increasing plant growth is caused by a long-lasting improvement of soil physicochemical properties by zeolites. In the first year of our field experiment performed on a poor soil with zeolite rates from 1 to 8 t/ha and N fertilization, an increase in spring wheat yield was observed. Any effect on soil cation exchange capacity (CEC), surface area (S), pH-dependent surface charge (Qv), mesoporosity, water holding capacity and plant available water (PAW) was noted. This positive effect of zeolite on plants could be due to extra nutrients supplied by the mineral (primarily potassium-1 ton of the studied zeolite contained around 15 kg of exchangeable potassium). he largest zeolite dose (from 9.5% for the control soil to 13% for a mixture of 40 g zeolite and 100 g soil), was observed. It resulted from small alterations of the soil macrostructure although the input of small zeolite pores was seen in pore size distributions, the larger pores responsible for the storage of PAW were almost not affected by the zeolite addition.An electroactive polytriphenylamine (PTPA-C6) is blended with poly(styrene-co-hydroxystyrene) (PS-co-PHS) as coating layers to enhance protection efficiency of PTPA-C6 on iron substrate in 3.5% sodium chloride (NaCl) solution. Experimental results show that incorporation of hydroxyl group to the polystyrene not only increases the miscibility of PTPA-C6 with PS through the hydrogen bond formation, but also enhances the bonding strength between the polymer coating layer and iron substrate. These improvements lead to superior enhancement in anticorrosion performance of PTPA-C6, even after thermal treatment. Protection efficiency (PE) of PTPA-C6 increases from 81.52% of the PTPA-C6 itself to over 94.40% under different conditions (PEmax = 99.19%).This study presents 13 new organic compounds with self-assembling behavior, which can be divided into two groups. Aggressive behaviors were more prevalent in females than in males. Housing conditions were linked with aggression towards other dogs/animals, aggression at mealtime, and excessive vocalization. CF-SMPCs in a LEO environment degrade over time due to temperature extremes and matrix erosion by AO. The opposite behavior was observed in our experiments, due to crosslinking induced by AO and UV light exposure in the LEO environment. The effects of the three harsh conditions on the properties of CF-SMPCs were characterized individually, using accelerated tests conducted at various temperatures in a space environment chamber, and were then combined using the time-temperature superposition principle.

    The 2017 Alzheimer's disease (AD) Strategic Biomarker Roadmap (SBR) structured the validation of AD diagnostic biomarkers into 5 phases, systematically assessing analytical validity (Phases 1-2), clinical validity (Phases 3-4), and clinical utility (Phase 5) through primary and secondary Aims. This framework allows to map knowledge gaps and research priorities, accelerating the route towards clinical implementation. Within an initiative aimed to assess the development of biomarkers of tau pathology, we revised this methodology consistently with progress in AD research.

    To explore the risk of encrustation and biofilm formation for silicone ureteral stents compared to percuflex polymer stents, through a randomized multicenter study.

    Design, setting and participants A Multicenter, prospective, randomized, single blind, comparative study of hydrocoated silicone stent (Coloplast Imajin
    hydro) versus Percuflex™Plus stent (Boston Scientific), in 141 patients treated by flexible URS for a kidney stone. The study had ethical committee approval in the respective hospitals. Outcome measurements and statistical analysis Endpoints related to encrustation were biofilm formation and mineral encrustation after a period of 3-week indwelling time. They were evaluated at removal through a scoring scale of ureteral stents encrustation, infrared spectroscopy and optical microscopy of inner and outer surfaces of tips, angles and along the stent's body. Comparison was performed using ANOVA.

    119 stents were available after removal for analysis, 56 in the silicone and 63 in the Percuflex TM Plus group. Mean dwelling duration was 21.8days for silicone, 22.1days for PercuflexTM Plus. There was significantly more biofilm on Percuflex™ Plus compared to silicone (1.24 ± 0.08 vs 0.93 ± 0.09, p = 0.0021), and more mineral encrustation (1.22 ± 0.10 vs 0.78 ± 0.11, p = 0.0048), respectively.

    Three hundred seventy-seven pediatric abdominopelvic MRI examinations were included. The preliminary (resident) and final (attending) radiology reports were coded as diagnosing acute appendicitis or no acute appendicitis. Additionally, both resident and attending reports were compared to available surgical pathology or clinical follow-up data.

    Overall concordance rate for the diagnosis of acute appendicitis was 97.1%. Concordance for verified cases of acute appendicitis was 93.4%. Concordance rates did not differ by residents' postgraduate year levels.

    Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) has been recognised as a significant form of chronic liver disease and a common cause of cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma, resulting in a considerable financial burden on healthcare resources. Currently, there is no information regarding the economic burden of NASH in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). The aim of this study was to estimate the economic burden of NASH in Thailand as a lesson learned for LMICs.

    To estimate the healthcare costs and prevalence of NASH with significant fibrosis (fibrosis stage ≥ 2) in the general Thai population, an eleven-state lifetime horizon Markov model with 1-year cycle length was performed. The model comprised Thai population aged 18years and older. The cohort size was based on Thailand Official Statistic Registration Systems. This research aims to examine the effectiveness of Self-Mutual-Group (SMG) model in improving quality of life of the empty-nest older adults to provide a scientific evidence for improving their health.

    A prospective intervention study was conducted among empty-nest older adults in Taiyuan, Shanxi. Multi-stage stratified random cluster sampling was employed to selected participants. A total of 396 empty nesters were enrolled as participants, of which 204 and 192 were in the intervention and control group, respectively. The intervention group received a seven-month SMG-based intervention. A participant's quality of life was measured at the baseline and seven months after using the Short Form 36-Item Health Survey (SF-36).

    No significant difference was found between the intervention and control groups in terms of participant characteristics at baseline (P > 0.05). After the intervention, participants' scores on Mental Component Summary (MCS), Physical Component Summary (PCS), role emotional (RE), vitality (VT), social function (SF), mental health (MH) and general health (GH) increased significantly in the intervention group. Additionally, these scores differed significantly from those in the control group (P < 0.05).

    A total of 109 patients who had CMs (n = 59) and cardiac thrombi (n = 50) were enrolled in this retrospective study from 2009 to 2019. First, the lesion characteristics of cardiovascular CECT images were documented and compared by two radiologists. Then all patients were randomly allotted to either a primary group or a validation group according to a 73 ratio. Univariate analysis and the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator were used to select robust features. The best radiomics signature was constructed and validated using multivariate logistic regression.

  • Chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is a major cause of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) world-wide. The molecular mechanisms of viral hepatocarcinogenesis are still partially understood. Here, we applied two complementary single-cell RNA-sequencing protocols to investigate HBV-HCC host cell interactions at the single cell level of patient-derived HCC. Computational analyses revealed a marked HCC heterogeneity with a robust and significant correlation between HBV reads and cancer cell differentiation. Viral reads significantly correlated with the expression of HBV-dependency factors such as HLF in different tumor compartments. Analyses of virus-induced host responses identified previously undiscovered pathways mediating viral carcinogenesis, such as E2F- and ****targets as well as adipogenesis. Mapping of fused HBV-host cell transcripts allowed the characterization of integration sites in individual cancer cells. Collectively, single-cell RNA-Seq unravels heterogeneity and compartmentalization of both, virus and cancer identifying new candidate pathways for viral hepatocarcinogenesis. The perturbation of pro-carcinogenic gene expression even at low HBV levels highlights the need of HBV cure to eliminate HCC risk.Background The role of high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) and CPAP in COVID-19 are controversial. The objective of the study was to evaluate the impact of the application of a non-invasive respiratory support (NIRS) algorithm on clinical outcomes in COVID-19 subjects with acute respiratory failure (ARF).Methods We performed a single center prospective observational study of subjects with respiratory failure from COVID-19 managed with high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) and CPAP+HFNC (combined therapy). The main outcome was the intubation rate, which defined failure of therapy. We also analyzed the role of the ROX index ([SpO2/FiO2]/respiratory rate) to predict the need for intubation.Results From June to December 2020, 113 subjects with COVID-19 respiratory failure were admitted to our respiratory intermediate care unit (RICU). HFNC was applied in 65 subjects (57.52%) and combined therapy in 48 (42.47%). A total of 83 subjects (73.45%) were successfully treated with NIRS. The intubation rate was 26.54 %, and overall mortality was 14.15%. Mortality rate in intubated subjects was 55.2%. ROX index of 6.28 at 12 hours predicted NIRS failure, with 97.6% of sensitivity and 51.8% of specificity.Conclusions Data from our cohort managed on RICU showed that combined NIRS are feasible with favorable outcomes. Further prospective studies are required.
    No study has thoroughly compared the effectiveness of combined antiplatelet treatments (other than clopidogrel-aspirin) versus clopidogrel-aspirin or aspirin alone for early secondary prevention in acute ischaemic stroke.

    We identified patients with acute, minor, non-cardiogenic ischaemic stroke treated with aspirin alone, clopidogrel-aspirin or other combination treatment. Propensity scores considering the inverse probability of treatment weighting were used to adjust for baseline imbalances. The primary outcome was the composite of all strokes (ischaemic or haemorrhagic), myocardial infarction and all-cause mortality at 3 months.

    Among 12 234 patients (male 61.9%; age 65.5±13 years) who met the eligibility criteria, aspirin, clopidogrel-aspirin and other combination treatments were administered in 52.2%, 42.9% and 4.9% of patients, respectively. In the crude analysis, the primary outcome event at 3 months occurred in 14.5% of the other combination group, 14.4% of the aspirin group and 13.0% of the cloduced risks of primary composite vascular events or recurrent stroke during the first 3 months after stroke. Therefore, the results suggest that other combination treatments, particularly the cilostazol-based combination, may not be effective alternatives for clopidogrel-aspirin to prevent early vascular events in patients with acute minor stroke. This protocol describes the steps towards generating an understanding of community engagement in the context of non-communicable disease research, prevention and health promotion using a realist review approach. A realist lens enables a rich explanatory approach to causation while capturing complexity, and an openness to multiple outcomes, including unintended consequences. The review will thus develop an understanding of community engagement without assuming that such practices result in more ethical research or effective interventions.

The objective of the study was to evaluate the impact of the application of a non-invasive respiratory support (NIRS) algorithm on clinical outcomes in COVID-19 subjects with acute respiratory failure (ARF).Methods We performed a single center prospective observational study of subjects with respiratory failure from COVID-19 managed with high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) and CPAP+HFNC (combined therapy). The main outcome was the intubation rate, which defined failure of therapy. We also analyzed the role of the ROX index ([SpO2/FiO2]/respiratory rate) to predict the need for intubation.Results From June to December 2020, 113 subjects with COVID-19 respiratory failure were admitted to our respiratory intermediate care unit (RICU). HFNC was applied in 65 subjects (57.52%) and combined therapy in 48 (42.47%). A total of 83 subjects (73.45%) were successfully treated with NIRS. The intubation rate was 26.54 %, and overall mortality was 14.15%. Mortality rate in intubated subjects was 55.2%. ROX index of 6.28 at 12 hours predicted NIRS failure, with 97.6% of sensitivity and 51.8% of specificity.Conclusions Data from our cohort managed on RICU showed that combined NIRS are feasible with favorable outcomes. Further prospective studies are required. No study has thoroughly compared the effectiveness of combined antiplatelet treatments (other than clopidogrel-aspirin) versus clopidogrel-aspirin or aspirin alone for early secondary prevention in acute ischaemic stroke. We identified patients with acute, minor, non-cardiogenic ischaemic stroke treated with aspirin alone, clopidogrel-aspirin or other combination treatment. Propensity scores considering the inverse probability of treatment weighting were used to adjust for baseline imbalances. The primary outcome was the composite of all strokes (ischaemic or haemorrhagic), myocardial infarction and all-cause mortality at 3 months. Among 12 234 patients (male 61.9%; age 65.5±13 years) who met the eligibility criteria, aspirin, clopidogrel-aspirin and other combination treatments were administered in 52.2%, 42.9% and 4.9% of patients, respectively. In the crude analysis, the primary outcome event at 3 months occurred in 14.5% of the other combination group, 14.4% of the aspirin group and 13.0% of the cloduced risks of primary composite vascular events or recurrent stroke during the first 3 months after stroke. Therefore, the results suggest that other combination treatments, particularly the cilostazol-based combination, may not be effective alternatives for clopidogrel-aspirin to prevent early vascular events in patients with acute minor stroke.   • Mental health practitioners, even when they have research training, rarely contribute to the scientific literature. One reason for this may be that they need help addressing the ethical and legal issues they encounter as they contemplate undertaking research in a clinical practice setting. To address that need, we offer several types of guidance for conducting research in a private practice setting in a way that meets high ethical and legal standards. We describe the situations in which ethical review of a research proposal by a federally registered institutional review board (IRB) is legally required, and identify alternate mechanisms that practitioners can use to obtain an ethical review when a formal IRB review is not required by law. We discuss legal and ethical requirements of conducting single-case studies in a practice setting. We provide a rationale, and free and inexpensive options, for obtaining a formal certificate of training in human subjects research. And we offer guidance for obtaining informed consent and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) authorization from research participants. We conclude with a brief discussion of other legal and professional issues to consider when conducting research in private practice.Children with anxiety disorders experience high rates of sleep-related problems, with co-sleeping and resistance to sleeping independently being among the more frequent problems reported. Although extinction-based behavioral sleep interventions have repeatedly been shown to be highly effective for treating bedtime resistance, the primary obstacle to their implementation is parent discomfort with these procedures. The bedtime pass intervention was developed to minimize extinction bursts when implementing extinction procedures for childhood sleep problems. Several studies have found this intervention to be effective for treating bedtime resistance behaviors, but not co-sleeping specifically, in nonclinical samples of children. The current paper describes the use of a modified bedtime pass procedure to target problematic co-sleeping and related bedtime resistance behaviors in two children with anxiety disorders who presented for treatment at an outpatient pediatric anxiety specialty clinic. A changing criterion, single subject methodology was used to evaluate the effectiveness of this procedure. Data indicate that both children were able to transition from co-sleeping with parents every night, to sleeping independently, with relatively limited need for contact with parents at night during the intervention. These findings extend the data for the bedtime pass procedure to both co-sleeping and children with anxiety disorders. Clinical implications of these findings are discussed given the limited guidance for treating comorbid sleep problems in anxious children. Strengths and limitations of the data being drawn from a clinical treatment setting are also discussed.Changes in psychological flexibility were tracked in a combined protocol of exposure and response prevention (ERP) and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) for adults with OCD to assess if changes in psychological flexibility processes were unique to ACT intervention (e.g., not impacted by ERP). We report treatment outcomes and patient satisfaction from the first 750 patients enrolled in a clinical research PHP utilizing the acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) treatment model. ACT is a well-established, transdiagnostic behavior therapy. However, to date no study has examined the use of ACT in acute day hospitals. We hypothesized that applying ACT with this patient group would result in significantly improved depression, anxiety, functioning, and quality of life from intake to discharge. We additionally expected that patients would report high satisfaction with ACT treatment groups. Patients (n = 750 full sample, n = 518 completed treatment) completed daily measures of symptoms, functioning, and ACT processes at intake and discharge, and postgroup satisfaction surveys. Results showed significant improvements in symptoms and impairment. ACT process variables also increased over the course of treatment. Importantly, patient satisfaction was high for all groups. Thus, ACT provides an appropriate, flexible, effective, and satisfactory model for this patient group.   • Evidence suggests encoding of recent episodic experiences may be enhanced by a subsequent salient event. We tested this hypothesis by giving rats a 3-min unsupervised experience with four odors and measuring retention after different delays. The second method evaluated sequence similarity between viral proteins and other proteins, visualized by constructing a virus-host-similarity interaction network. Methods were validated on the human immunodeficiency virus, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, and human papillomavirus, then deployed on SARS-CoV-2. Comparison of virus-host-physical interaction predictions to known antiviral drugs had AUCs of 0.69, 0.59, 0.78, and 0.67, respectively, reflecting that the scores are predictive of effective drugs. For SARS-CoV-2, 569 candidate drugs were predicted, of which 37 had been included in clinical trials for SARS-CoV-2 (AUC = 0.75, P-value 3.21 × 10-3). As further validation, top-ranked candidate antiviral drugs were analyzed for binding to protein targets in silico; binding scores generated by BindScope indicated a 70% success rate.Master transcription factors control the transcriptional program and are essential to maintain cellular functions. However, resistance invariably arises. Here, we show that high levels of the stress response master regulator, the heat shock factor 1 (HSF1), are associated with antiestrogen resistance in breast cancer cells. Indeed, overexpression of HSF1 leads to ERα degradation, decreased expression of ERα-activated genes, and antiestrogen resistance. Furthermore, we demonstrate that reducing HSF1 levels reinstates expression of the ERα and restores response to antiestrogens. Last, our results establish a proof of concept that inhibition of HSF1, in combination with antiestrogens, is a valid strategy to tackle resistant breast cancers.   • This pictorial essay is a presentation of imaging appearances of non-mammary cancer metastases to the breast detected in asymptomatic women attending BreastScreen Western Australia (BSWA) from 2005 to 2019. Haematological malignancies were excluded. Thirteen cases of histologically proven extramammary metastases to breast were identified from the BSWA data base. Five cases were ovarian cancer metastases, 3 melanoma metastases, 2 of adenocarcinoma metastases with foregut primary and one each of endometrial, renal and carcinoid metastases. Metastasis to breast commonly presented as circumscribed masses (N = 12) at mammography and as hypoechoic masses (N = 10) at ultrasound with a predilection to upper outer quadrant of breast. Metastases to breast from non-mammary primary while a rare occurrence in a breast screening program, may be the first clinical presentation of malignancy in asymptomatic women.

In midsize vessels REACT performed significantly better than T2-TSE (1.94) and bTFE (2.68) with a score of 3.64. For the large proximal vessels REACT (3.39), bTFE (3.33) and T2-TSE (3.56) performed equally without statistical difference. Visibility of venous pathologies was found to be equal between REACT (3.62), bTFE (3.51) and T2-TSE (3.52). The image degradation due to artifacts was rated best in T2-TSE (3.56), followed by REACT (3.39) and bTFE (3.33).

Physically active adults with flexible (n = 16) and stiff (n = 16) MLA completed DVJs onto a force platform from a height of 30 cm. Eccentric and concentric subphases of the DVJ were identified from the vertical ground reaction force (GRF) data. Jump height, ground contact time, reactive strength index (RSI), vertical center-of-mass depth, vertical stiffness and time of the eccentric and concentric subphases were evaluated. Amortization force, peak vertical GRF and vertical impulse were also obtained for the eccentric and concentric subphases of the DVJ. Dependent variables were compared between groups using independent samples t-tests (p less then 0.05). Significantly greater vertical stiffness (p = 0.048; ES = 0.63) was found in the stiff arch group (-173.91 ± 99.73 N/kg/m) compared to the flexible arch group (-122.95 ± 63.42 N/kg/m). A moderate-magnitude difference (ES = 0.58) was observed for RSI between flexible (0.89 ± 0.39) and stiff arch (1.20 ± 0.70) groups, but was not significant (p = 0.063). The active and passive structures supporting the MLA may be used differently to achieve similar vertical jump height during a DVJ. Mechanical exfoliation produces NbSe2 microplatets with typical sizes of 1 μm to 30 μ m with a thickness less than 2 μm. Ultrasonic-assisted exfoliation without aging facilitates the formation of NbSe2 micro/nanoplatets with sizes of 0.1 μm to 25 μm and nano-whiskers with 100 nm in diameter and 1 ~ 3 μm in length, but Nb2O5 and Se are also found on the basis of XPS results. Prolonged aging of the suspensions modifies the morphology by converting platets and whiskers into corrugated floccules (hybrid material), which are composed of Nb2O5, Se, NbSe2, and graphene. Notably, NbSe2 micro/nanoparticles by ultrasonic-assisted exfoliation without ageing exhibit an excellent lubricating property with low friction coefficient (0.3), mild wear, and longer wear lifetime (120 min) than that of mechanical exfoliated NbSe2 microplatets (10 min). However, drawbacks to this static method include cell sedimentation, leading to high cell density near the bottom and resulting in oxygen and nutrient deficiencies. Here, we propose a suspension culture method with acoustic streaming induced by ultrasonic waves in a T-flask to create a more homogeneous distribution of oxygen, nutrients, and waste products during the preparation period preceding large-scale suspension culture in a bioreactor. To demonstrate the performance of the ultrasonic method, Chinese hamster ovary cells were cultured for 72 h.

  • Controlling minimum toe clearance (MTC) is considered an important factor in preventing tripping. In the current study, we investigated modifications of neuro-muscular control underlying toe clearance during steady locomotion induced by repeated exposure to tripping-like perturbations of the right swing foot. Fourteen healthy young adults (mean age 26.4 ± 3.1 years) participated in the study. The experimental protocol consisted of three identical trials, each involving three phases steady walking (baseline), perturbation, and steady walking (post-perturbation). During the perturbation, participants experienced 30 tripping-like perturbations at unexpected timing delivered by a custom-made mechatronic perturbation device. The temporal parameters (cadence and stance phase%), mean, and standard deviation of ****were computed across approximately 90 strides collected during both baseline and post-perturbation phases, for all trials. The effects of trial (three levels), phase (two levels baseline and post-perturbation) and foot (two levels right and left) on the outcome variables were analyzed using a three-way repeated measures analysis of variance. The results revealed that exposure to repeated trip-like perturbations modified ****toward more precise control and lower toe clearance of the swinging foot, which appeared to reflect both the expectation of potential forthcoming perturbations and a quicker compensatory response in cases of a lack of balance. Moreover, locomotion control enabled subjects to maintain symmetric rhythmic features during post-perturbation steady walking. Molecular clock estimation revealed an early radiation of subfamilies near the K/Pg boundary, marked by mass extinction, and subsequent divergence of most tribe-level clades within ∼15 million years. Phylogenomic analyses of thousands of gene families support 28 proposed putative whole-genome duplication/whole-genome triplication events across Fabaceae, including those at the ancestors of Fabaceae and five of the subfamilies, and further analyses supported the Fabaceae ancestral polyploidy. The evolution of rhizobial nitrogen-fixing nodulation in Fabaceae was probed by ancestral character reconstruction and phylogenetic analyses of related gene families and the results support the hypotheses of one or two switch(es) to rhizobial nodulation followed by multiple losses.     Controlling minimum toe clearance (MTC) is considered an important factor in preventing tripping. In the current study, we investigated modifications of neuro-muscular control underlying toe clearance during steady locomotion induced by repeated exposure to tripping-like perturbations of the right swing foot. Fourteen healthy young adults (mean age 26.4 ± 3.1 years) participated in the study. The experimental protocol consisted of three identical trials, each involving three phases steady walking (baseline), perturbation, and steady walking (post-perturbation). During the perturbation, participants experienced 30 tripping-like perturbations at unexpected timing delivered by a custom-made mechatronic perturbation device. The temporal parameters (cadence and stance phase%), mean, and standard deviation of MTC were computed across approximately 90 strides collected during both baseline and post-perturbation phases, for all trials. The effects of trial (three levels), phase (two levels baseline and post-perturbation) and foot (two levels right and left) on the outcome variables were analyzed using a three-way repeated measures analysis of variance. The results revealed that exposure to repeated trip-like perturbations modified MTC toward more precise control and lower toe clearance of the swinging foot, which appeared to reflect both the expectation of potential forthcoming perturbations and a quicker compensatory response in cases of a lack of balance. Moreover, locomotion control enabled subjects to maintain symmetric rhythmic features during post-perturbation steady walking.   • The application of the Smith-Watson-Topper energy-based parameter was revealed to be a good tool for fatigue life prediction of the different series studied.Copper (Cu) is an essential metal for plants. However, its excess in soil can adversely affect plant metabolism. The current study evaluated the effects of gibberellic acid (GA3) foliar applications on the performance of pea plants grown either in Cu-contaminated (Cu+) and non-contaminated (Cu-) soil. GA3 was sprayed (0, 10, 50, and 100 mg·L-1) on 15-days-old plants. The results showed that the increasing concentration of GA3 buffered the phytotoxic effects of Cu and enhanced plant growth, photosynthesis, and leaf chlorophyll content. Foliar-sprayed GA3 up to 100 mg·L-1 alleviated the oxidative stress, as inferred from the lower concentrations of MDA and H2O2 (33.3 µmol·g-1 and 182 µmol·g-1, respectively), and boosted the activity of superoxide dismutase (64.4 U·g-1·FW), peroxidase (122.7 U·g-1·FW), and catalase (226.3 U·g-1·FW). Interestingly, GA3 promoted Cu accumulation in different plant parts when compared to untreated plants, likely due to increased photosynthetic and transpiration rates. Overall, foliar application of GA3 promoted phytoextraction of Cu and alleviated the oxidative stress in pea plants grown in Cu+ soil.To determine the prevalence of self-medication in nursing students and their related factors, a transversal, descriptive study was performed on a sample of 378 nursing students. A total of 73.8% of the sample declared having used off-prescription drugs during the last month (2.84;2.26-3.58). A total of 28.9% said they did this because they are familiar with the health problem and its pharmacological solution and 25% deemed that it was a mild health problem. Drugs most commonly used off-prescription were analgesics in 88.91% (3.63;2.74-4.80) of occasions. They were mainly recommended by the students' family (1.31;1.03-1.65) on 58.12% of the cases. Students keep analgesics they take off-prescription in their home first aid kit (4.47;3.28-6.08; p less then 0.001). Unlike other studies, 53.2% obtained off-prescription drugs from the home first aid kit (1.13;0.89-1.43; p less then 0.001). In addition, they gave advice and recommend drugs they have taken to other people with similar symptoms (1.97;1.59-2.44). A total of 85.72% kept excess drugs after a treatment (6.00;4.50-7.99). Self-medication is related to the storage of unused medicines and giving advice on the use of drugs to other people, among other things. Self-medication of drugs among nursing students is high. We performed an in vitro study to evaluate the uptake of GNPs by LLC cells and an in vivo study to assess and quantify the GNP biodistribution by injecting concentrated GNPs citrate-stabilized or passivated with bovine serum albumin (BSA) intratumorally into LLC solid tumors. Quantitative CT and inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES) results both confirm the presence of particles in the tumor 9 days post-injection (n = 8 ****/group). A significant difference is highlighted between citrate-GNP and BSA-GNP groups (** p less then 0.005, Tukey's multiple comparisons test), confirming that the protein corona of GNPs modifies intratumoral distribution and retention of the particles. Sodium 4-phenylbutyrate (NaPB), a standard therapy for UCDs for over 20 years, generates an alternative pathway of nitrogen deposition through glutamine consumption. Administration during or immediately after a meal is the accepted use of NaPB. However, this regimen is not based on clinical evidence. Here, an open-label, single-dose, five-period crossover study was conducted in healthy adults to investigate the effect of food on the pharmacokinetics of NaPB and determine any subsequent change in amino acid availability. Twenty subjects were randomized to one of four treatment groups. Following an overnight fast, NaPB was administered orally at 4.3 g/m2 (high dose, HD) or 1.4 g/m2 (low dose, LD) either 30 min before or just after breakfast. At both doses, compared with post-breakfast administration, pre-breakfast administration significantly increased systemic exposure of PB and decreased plasma glutamine availability. Pre-breakfast LD administration attenuated plasma glutamine availability to the same extent as post-breakfast HD administration. Regardless of the regimen, plasma levels of branched-chain amino acids (BCAA) were decreased below baseline in a dose-dependent manner. In conclusion, preprandial oral administration of NaPB maximized systemic exposure of the drug and thereby its potency to consume plasma glutamine. This finding may improve poor medication compliance because of the issues with odor, taste, and pill burden of NaPB and reduce the risk of BCAA deficiency in NaPB therapy.
    The purpose of this study was to examine nurses' use and knowledge of caffeine and high energy drinks (HED) in three countries.

    Nurses in each country completed a survey on caffeine and HED use and knowledge.

    In a sample of 182 nurses, caffeine use was high with 92% of nurses in Korea, 90.8% in Italy and 88.1% in the United States (US) having at least one cup of coffee a day while 64% of Koreans and 11.9% of those in the US had at least one HED per day. In Korea 68% of nurses (Italy 63.1% and 35.8% US) had at least one cup of caffeinated tea per day. Most agreed there is a need to educate nurses about HED, which contain high amounts of caffeine. Over half of nurses in Korea (58%) and the US (56.7%) said their colleagues consume HED at work.

    Findings of this study indicate many nurses are consuming caffeine at work and there is a need for education. It is unclear how caffeine affects nurses' clinical performance, which raises the issue of patient safety. Further research is needed regarding safe amounts of caffeine while nurses are on the job as well as an understanding of how HED additives may affect the well-being and clinical care of nurses.

    Detrusor contractility (DC) can have a considerable impact on the management oflower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS). However, it is currently impossible to predict, based on clinical data alone, which woman has an impaired DC. Our aim was to determine if DC, assessed by projected isovolumetric pressure-1 (PIP1) and VBN contractility parameter k, was associated with age, main complaint, and urodynamic diagnosis in a population of older women.

Following an overnight fast, NaPB was administered orally at 4.3 g/m2 (high dose, HD) or 1.4 g/m2 (low dose, LD) either 30 min before or just after breakfast. At both doses, compared with post-breakfast administration, pre-breakfast administration significantly increased systemic exposure of PB and decreased plasma glutamine availability. Pre-breakfast LD administration attenuated plasma glutamine availability to the same extent as post-breakfast HD administration. Regardless of the regimen, plasma levels of branched-chain amino acids (BCAA) were decreased below baseline in a dose-dependent manner. In conclusion, preprandial oral administration of NaPB maximized systemic exposure of the drug and thereby its potency to consume plasma glutamine. Nurses in each country completed a survey on caffeine and HED use and knowledge. In a sample of 182 nurses, caffeine use was high with 92% of nurses in Korea, 90.8% in Italy and 88.1% in the United States (US) having at least one cup of coffee a day while 64% of Koreans and 11.9% of those in the US had at least one HED per day. In Korea 68% of nurses (Italy 63.1% and 35.8% US) had at least one cup of caffeinated tea per day. Most agreed there is a need to educate nurses about HED, which contain high amounts of caffeine. Over half of nurses in Korea (58%) and the US (56.7%) said their colleagues consume HED at work. Findings of this study indicate many nurses are consuming caffeine at work and there is a need for education. It is unclear how caffeine affects nurses' clinical performance, which raises the issue of patient safety.
