Changes in body weight and body mass index were recorded alongside vital signs and anthropometric measurements at week 4, 8 and 12. Body composition was assessed at baseline and the end of treatment using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry. Safety analysis included serum biochemical and haematological assessments and measurement of vital signs. In addition, any adverse or serious adverse events were recorded during the study.

    Sixty subjects completed the study. Mean body weight and body mass index were significantly reduced in CGA-7 group as compared to placebo (

In this article, we provide 10 suggestions to enhance specific procedural aspects of bronchoscopic guidance of percutaneous dilatational tracheostomy, and strategies to optimize its teaching and learning, in order to promote learners' competence acquisition and increase patient safety.Angiogenesis, the development of new blood vessels from existing ones, is a critical process in wound healing and skeletal muscle hypertrophy.     An institution-based cross-sectional study was conducted on patients clinically diagnosed with urinary tract infections and received a drug prescription at Hiwot Fana Specialized University Hospital from August 2018 to June 2019. A clean-catch mid-stream urine specimen was collected and bacterial identification and susceptibility test were performed using standard microbiological methods. Data were entered into EpiInfo 7 and exported to STATA 15 for analysis. Data were analyzed using descriptive analysis and bi-variate and multivariate regression analyses and presented with graphs, frequency, and tables.

    A total of 687 urine samples were collected from patientse-positive with many types of bacterial uropathogens. Inpatients and hypertensive patients had a higher risk of developing bacterial infections. Bacterial isolates showed different percentages of susceptibility to the tested antibiotics.
    In the current days, stroke has become one of the common reasons for admission in many health care setups and becoming an alarming public health problem in Ethiopia. Hence, this study aimed to assess the incidence and associated factors of stroke among patients admitted to the medical wards in Yirgalem hospital.

    An institution-based retrospective cross-sectional study design was carried out from 01 January 2017, to 30 December 2019. Admitted adult patients' medical charts were used to collect all required information using structured checklists. Data were analyzed using statistical package for social sciences (SPSS) version 20 software, and a p value < 0.05 was accepted as statistically significant.

    From a total of 3016 admitted patients, the incidence of stroke was 3.15% (n = 95). Of the 95 stroke cases, 58.9% were males and 69.5% of them were urban dwellers. 62.1% (59/95) of the stroke patients had an ischemic stroke, whereas 37.9% (36/95) had a hemorrhagic stroke.   • Medical interventions are becoming more complex day by day. Moreover, compared with the past, more healthcare professionals take part in the same intervention in the field of medicine. The use of technology in medical interventions has also increased. This change in the health sector brings together several legal discussions. In this study, the legal consequences that arise from the treatment processes carried out by the residents and resident educators (registerers / attending physicians), the exchange of information between them, and the usage of some messaging platforms, especially WhatsApp, in this process will be analyzed.
    Endovascular therapy has recently become acceptable for the reconstruction of below-the-knee (BTK) and below-the-ankle (BTA) arterial lesions. However, we have sometimes experienced BTK or BTA lesions with calcifications that are too severe for balloon catheters to cross or expand despite successful guidewire passage. In this study, we assessed the feasibility and safety of the novel inner PIERCE technique for breaking down the calcium burden of BTK and BTA arterial lesions.

    We retrospectively reviewed the records of patients who had undergone endovascular therapy between August 2018 and December 2019. The inner PIERCE technique was performed in those cases where low-profile balloon catheters were unable to pass through the target lesions or balloon indentation did not disappear beyond the rated burst pressure. An externalized guidewire system was established in 8 cases via bidirectional approaches, and a 20-gauge needle was directly inserted through the guidewires from the distal puncture site. In 10 cases of successful antegrade wiring, the tibial or pedal arteries distal to the lesion site were punctured for a retrograde guidewire approach to the lesion. The needle was slowly rotated and advanced across the lesion.

    We found that all lesions were severely calcified and 83.3% had chronic total occlusion. The inner PIERCE procedure allowed successful passage of the needle and subsequent low-profile balloon catheters in all cases. Optimal balloon dilatation was achieved in 94.4% of the cases using this technique. No procedure-related adverse events were observed.

The container CT is a multidetector CT scanner installed within a radiation-protected stand-alone container (a detachable lead shielding room) that is deployed outside the makeshift hospital buildings. The objectives of this review are to list and assess (i) the current tools for direct or indirect screening for arboviruses, (ii) the new generation tools that best meet expectations in terms of optimal arbovirus monitoring and (iii) the potentials for improved arbovirus monitoring.

  • To assess the feasibility of a proposed pancreatic protocol CT generated from portal-venous phase (PVP) dual-energy CT (DECT) acquisition and its impact on image quality, lesion conspicuity, and arterial visualization/involvement.

    We included 111 patients (mean age, 66.8 years) who underwent pancreatic protocol DECT (pancreatic phase, PP, and PVP). The original DECT acquisition was used to create two data sets-standard protocol (50 keV PP/65 keV PVP) and proposed protocol (40 keV/65 keV PVP). Three reviewers evaluated the two data sets for image quality, lesion conspicuity, and arterial visualization/involvement using a 5-point scale. The signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of pancreas and lesion-to-pancreas contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR) was calculated. Qualitative scores, quantitative parameters, and dose-length product (DLP) were compared between standard and proposed protocols.

    The image quality, SNR of pancreas, and lesion-to-pancreas CNR of the standard and proposed protocol were comparable (p = 0.11-1.00)nventional protocol.

    Radiologists' perception is likely to influence the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) into clinical practice. We investigated knowledge and attitude towards AI by radiologists and residents in Europe and beyond.

    Between April and July 2019, a survey on fear of replacement, knowledge, and attitude towards AI was accessible to radiologists and residents. The survey was distributed through several radiological societies, author networks, and social media. Independent predictors of fear of replacement and a positive attitude towards AI were assessed using multivariable logistic regression.

    In recent studies, a 5-stage cardiac damage classification in severe aortic stenosis (AS) based on echocardiographic parameters has shown to provide predictive value regarding clinical outcome. The objective of this study was to investigate the prognostic impact of a cardiac damage classification based on invasive hemodynamics in patients with AS undergoing transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR).

    A total of 1400 patients with symptomatic AS and full invasive hemodynamic assessment before TAVR were included. Patients were categorized according to their cardiac damage stage into five groups that are defined as stage 0, no cardiac damage; stage 1, left ventricular damage; stage 2, left atrial and/or mitral valve damage; stage 3, pulmonary vasculature and/or tricuspid valve damage; stage 4, right ventricular damage.

    9.9% patients were classified as stage 0, 23.6% as stage 1, the majority of patients as stage 2 (33.5%), 23.1% as stage 3 and 10% as stage 4. One- and 4-year mortality were 10.1%/29.5% in stage 0, 16.
    To assess the feasibility of a proposed pancreatic protocol CT generated from portal-venous phase (PVP) dual-energy CT (DECT) acquisition and its impact on image quality, lesion conspicuity, and arterial visualization/involvement. We included 111 patients (mean age, 66.8 years) who underwent pancreatic protocol DECT (pancreatic phase, PP, and PVP). The original DECT acquisition was used to create two data sets-standard protocol (50 keV PP/65 keV PVP) and proposed protocol (40 keV/65 keV PVP). Three reviewers evaluated the two data sets for image quality, lesion conspicuity, and arterial visualization/involvement using a 5-point scale. The signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of pancreas and lesion-to-pancreas contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR) was calculated.   • A pan-European approach to evaluate policy impact on health behaviour requires the employment of a consensus set of established and relevant indicators.

    As part of the Joint Programming Initiative on a Healthy Diet for a Healthy Life, the Policy Evaluation Network PEN identified key indicators of health behaviours and their determinants. These key indicators are already, or have the potential to be, adopted by large European Union surveillance systems for the assessment of policy impact. The iterative selection process included consultations in two rounds via email prior to a 2-days expert workshop. The experts collated a list of dietary behaviour, physical activity and sedentary behaviour indicators for European policy monitoring in young and adult populations based on existing frameworks and literature reviews. The expert panel was composed of researchers, policy makers and representatives of major European surveillance systems and related initiatives, as well as, representatives of organisations providrioritised by policy makers and researchers with the ultimate aim to embed policy evaluation measures in existing surveillance systems across the European Union. In a next step, data sources and suitable instruments will be identified to assess these key indicators.
    The general population is exposed to Radio-Frequency Electromagnetic Fields (RF-EMFs) used by telecommunication networks. Previous studies developed methods to assess this exposure. These methods will be inadequate to accurately assess exposure in 5G technologies or other wireless technologies using adaptive antennas. This is due to the fact that 5G NR (new radio) base stations will focus actively on connected users, resulting in a high spatio-temporal variations in the RF-EMFs. This increases the measurement uncertainty in personal measurements of RF-EMF exposure. Furthermore, a user's exposure from base stations will be dependent on the amount of data usage, adding a new component to the auto-induced exposure, which is often omitted in current studies.

    The objective of this paper is to develop a general study protocol for future personal RF-EMF exposure research adapted to 5G technologies. This protocol will include the assessment of auto-induced exposure of both a user's own devices and the networks' bd.

    Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) can regulate gene expression in a cis-regulatory fashion or as "microRNA sponges". However, the expression and functions of lncRNAs during early human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection (EHI) remain unclear.

    3 HAART-naive EHI patients and 3 healthy controls (HCs) were recruited in this study to perform RNA sequencing and microRNA (miRNA) sequencing. The expression profiles of lncRNAs, mRNAs and miRNAs were obtained, and the potential roles of lncRNAs were analysed based on discovering lncRNA cis-regulatory target mRNAs and constructing lncRNA-miRNA-mRNA competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) networks. Then, Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway enrichment analyses were performed on 175 lncRNA-associated differentially expressed (DE) mRNAs to investigate the potential functions of DE lncRNAs in ceRNA networks.

    A total of 242 lncRNAs, 1240 mRNAs and 21 mature known miRNAs were determined as differentially expressed genes in HAART-naive EHuring EHI. These novel findings are helpful for understanding of the pathogenesis of HIV infection and provide new insights into antiviral therapy.
    Poor Maternal and Child Health (MCH) outcomes pose challenges to India's ability to attain Goal-3 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The government of India strengthened the existing network of frontline health workers (FHWs), under its National Rural Health Mission in 2005 and subsequent National Urban Health Mission in 2013 as a strategy to mitigate the shortage of skilled health workers and to provide affordable healthcare services. However, there is a lack of robust national-level empirical analysis on the role of maternal engagement with FHWs in influencing the level of maternal and child health care utilisation and child health outcomes in India.

    Using data from the nationally representative Indian National Family Health Survey (NFHS) 2015-2016, this paper aims to investigate the intensity of engagement of FHWs with married women of child-bearing age (15-49years), its influence on utilisation of maternal and child healthcare services, and child health outcomes. Our empirical analyses use mth system needs to be enhanced by improving skills, working environment, and greater financial incentives.
    From a policy perspective, our findings highlight that strengthening the network of FHWs in the areas where they are in shortage which can help in further improving the utilisation of maternal and child healthcare services, and health outcomes.     We consider the prevalence of family complexity and its association with children's externalizing behavior problems over children's life course and over historical time.

    A growing literature has demonstrated the prevalence and multidimensional nature of family complexity and its association with child behavior. The nature/strength of this association may have changed in recent cohorts as family complexity has become more common.

    Data are from the 1997 and 2014 cohorts of the Panel Study of Income Dynamics Child Development Supplement. Samples represent U.S. children ages 0-12 years born since 1985 (N=5,030). Ordinary least squares regression estimated change in the association between family complexity and behavior between cohorts. Difference-in-difference models estimated baseline and longitudinal differences in children's behavior as linked to family complexity.

    The prevalence of family complexity has stabilized over the last two decades, and the antecedents to parental repartnering and complex sibship organization remain similar. The expectation that increasing family complexity contributes to elevated behavior problem scores was not supported. Instead, children who eventually acquired a step- or half-sibling or who experienced parents' union dissolution had elevated behavior problems prior to those changes.

    The prevalence of and precursors to complex family organization were stable across recent child cohorts. The observed association between family complexity and child behavior problems may be attributable to selection mechanisms linked to both parents' family formation trajectories and to children's behavior, rather than to family change itself.

Experimental models in animals have shown that compensatory mechanisms occur after a unilateral oophorectomy (UO). This review aims to summarize the available evidence on the biological effects of unilateral oophorectomy on women. Evaluated outcomes include age at onset of menopause, risk of cardiovascular and neurological disease, risk of mortality and fertility outcome after spontaneous conception or in vitro fertilization (IVF). Results were compared with findings reported after bilateral oophorectomy and/or ovarian excision and/or women with intact ovaries. An electronic database search was performed using PubMed and Scopus, followed by a manual search to identify controlled studies that compared women after UO with women with two intact ovaries. In particular, a systematic review of fertility outcomes after IVF was performed, and the data were summarized in a table. Women who underwent UO had a similar age at menopause and similar clinical pregnancy rate compared to women with two ovaries. However, decreased ovarian reserve affecting the quantity but not the quality of the ovarian pool after IVF was observed in the UO group. Furthermore, an increased risk of neurological disease and even an increased risk of mortality was observed in women with single ovary. These data need to be confirmed by further studies, and a plausible mechanism of action must be identified. At present, patients who undergo UO can be reassured with regard to their reproductive potential and their age at onset of menopause.Introduction Adenomyomectomy is the most conservative surgical treatment for adenomyosis. However, the surgical efficacy of this treatment and the best approach to use are still debated. We aimed to evaluate the efficacy of laparoscopic adenomyomectomy using the double/multiple-flap method combined with temporary occlusion of the bilateral uterine artery and the utero-ovarian vessels to treat symptomatic adenomyosis. Patients We recruited 155 patients with symptomatic adenomyosis and divided them into group A (n = 76) and group B (n = 79), with each group treated using a different surgical approach. All eligible women were informed of the potential complications, benefits, and alternatives of each approach before they were assigned into one of the two groups. In group A, we performed laparoscopic adenomyomectomy with the double/multiple-flap method while in group B, we performed a double/multiple-flap adenomyomectomy combined with temporary occlusion of the bilateral uterine artery and utero-ovarian vessels. Over a 24-month follow-up period, we evaluated operating time, intraoperative blood loss, visual analog scale (VAS) scores, anti-Mullerian hormone levels, uterine volume, and relief of menorrhagia. Results There were no significant differences between groups A and B with respect to VAS scores, relief of menorrhagia and uterine volume at 3 months, 6 months, 12 months and 24 months after surgery (p > 0.05). We consider the prevalence of family complexity and its association with children's externalizing behavior problems over children's life course and over historical time. A growing literature has demonstrated the prevalence and multidimensional nature of family complexity and its association with child behavior. The nature/strength of this association may have changed in recent cohorts as family complexity has become more common. Data are from the 1997 and 2014 cohorts of the Panel Study of Income Dynamics Child Development Supplement. Samples represent U.S. children ages 0-12 years born since 1985 (N=5,030). Ordinary least squares regression estimated change in the association between family complexity and behavior between cohorts. Difference-in-difference models estimated baseline and longitudinal differences in children's behavior as linked to family complexity. The prevalence of family complexity has stabilized over the last two decades, and the antecedents to parental repartnering and complex sibship organization remain similar. The expectation that increasing family complexity contributes to elevated behavior problem scores was not supported. Instead, children who eventually acquired a step- or half-sibling or who experienced parents' union dissolution had elevated behavior problems prior to those changes. The prevalence of and precursors to complex family organization were stable across recent child cohorts. The observed association between family complexity and child behavior problems may be attributable to selection mechanisms linked to both parents' family formation trajectories and to children's behavior, rather than to family change itself. Experimental models in animals have shown that compensatory mechanisms occur after a unilateral oophorectomy (UO). This review aims to summarize the available evidence on the biological effects of unilateral oophorectomy on women. Evaluated outcomes include age at onset of menopause, risk of cardiovascular and neurological disease, risk of mortality and fertility outcome after spontaneous conception or in vitro fertilization (IVF). Results were compared with findings reported after bilateral oophorectomy and/or ovarian excision and/or women with intact ovaries. An electronic database search was performed using PubMed and Scopus, followed by a manual search to identify controlled studies that compared women after UO with women with two intact ovaries. In particular, a systematic review of fertility outcomes after IVF was performed, and the data were summarized in a table. Women who underwent UO had a similar age at menopause and similar clinical pregnancy rate compared to women with two ovaries. However, decreased ovarian reserve affecting the quantity but not the quality of the ovarian pool after IVF was observed in the UO group. Furthermore, an increased risk of neurological disease and even an increased risk of mortality was observed in women with single ovary. These data need to be confirmed by further studies, and a plausible mechanism of action must be identified. At present, patients who undergo UO can be reassured with regard to their reproductive potential and their age at onset of menopause.Introduction Adenomyomectomy is the most conservative surgical treatment for adenomyosis. However, the surgical efficacy of this treatment and the best approach to use are still debated. We aimed to evaluate the efficacy of laparoscopic adenomyomectomy using the double/multiple-flap method combined with temporary occlusion of the bilateral uterine artery and the utero-ovarian vessels to treat symptomatic adenomyosis. Patients We recruited 155 patients with symptomatic adenomyosis and divided them into group A (n = 76) and group B (n = 79), with each group treated using a different surgical approach. All eligible women were informed of the potential complications, benefits, and alternatives of each approach before they were assigned into one of the two groups. In group A, we performed laparoscopic adenomyomectomy with the double/multiple-flap method while in group B, we performed a double/multiple-flap adenomyomectomy combined with temporary occlusion of the bilateral uterine artery and utero-ovarian vessels. Over a 24-month follow-up period, we evaluated operating time, intraoperative blood loss, visual analog scale (VAS) scores, anti-Mullerian hormone levels, uterine volume, and relief of menorrhagia. Results There were no significant differences between groups A and B with respect to VAS scores, relief of menorrhagia and uterine volume at 3 months, 6 months, 12 months and 24 months after surgery (p > 0.05). Both groups showed significant improvement of these parameters after surgery compared with preoperative values (p  0.05).   • Degeneration of dopamine (DA) neurons in the midbrain underlies the pathogenesis of Parkinson's disease (PD). Supplement of DA via L-DOPA alleviates motor symptoms but does not prevent the progressive loss of DA neurons. A large body of experimental studies, including those in nonhuman primates, demonstrates that transplantation of fetal mesencephalic tissues improves motor symptoms in animals, which culminated in open-label and double-blinded clinical trials of fetal tissue transplantation for PD1. Unfortunately, the outcomes are mixed, primarily due to the undefined and unstandardized donor tissues1,2. Generation of induced pluripotent stem cells enables standardized and autologous transplantation therapy for PD. However, its efficacy, especially in primates, remains unclear. Here we show that over a 2-year period without immunosuppression, PD monkeys receiving autologous, but not allogenic, transplantation exhibited recovery from motor and depressive signs. These behavioral improvements were accompanied by robust grafts with extensive DA neuron axon growth as well as strong DA activity in positron emission tomography (PET). Mathematical modeling reveals correlations between the number of surviving DA neurons with PET signal intensity and behavior recovery regardless autologous or allogeneic transplant, suggesting a predictive power of PET and motor behaviors for surviving DA neuron number.In this paper, a novel method for the synthesis of Pt nanoparticles (PtNPs) using a microwave autoclave reactor is proposed. MPFV was found to be genetically related to Ngoye virus detected in ticks in Senegal, and these viruses formed a unique lineage in the genus Flavivirus. Analyses of dinucleotide contents of flaviviruses indicated that MPFV was similar to those of other TBFVs with a typical vertebrate genome signature, suggesting that MPFV may infect vertebrate hosts. Bioinformatic analyses of the secondary structures in the 3'-untranslated regions (UTRs) revealed that MPFV exhibited unique exoribonuclease-resistant RNA (xrRNA) structures. Utilizing biochemical approaches, we clarified that two xrRNA structures of MPFV in the 3'-UTR could prevent exoribonuclease activity. In summary, our findings provide new information regarding the geographical distribution of TBFV and xrRNA structures in the 3'-UTR of flaviviruses.While outdoor advertisements are common features within towns and cities, they may reinforce social inequalities in health. Vulnerable populations in deprived areas may have greater exposure to fast food, gambling and alcohol advertisements, which may encourage their consumption. Understanding who is exposed and evaluating potential policy restrictions requires a substantial manual data collection effort. To address this problem we develop a deep learning workflow to automatically extract and classify unhealthy advertisements from street-level images. We introduce the Liverpool [Formula see text] Street View (LIV360SV) dataset for evaluating our workflow. The dataset contains 25,349, 360 degree, street-level images collected via cycling with a GoPro Fusion camera, recorded Jan 14th-18th 2020. 10,106 advertisements were identified and classified as food (1335), alcohol (217), gambling (149) and other (8405). We find evidence of social inequalities with a larger proportion of food advertisements located within deprived areas and those frequented by students. Our project presents a novel implementation for the incidental classification of street view images for identifying unhealthy advertisements, providing a means through which to identify areas that can benefit from tougher advertisement restriction policies for tackling social inequalities.

  • A bronchus sign was present in 24% of cases. Of the 363 nodules, 299 (82.4%) had lesional findings. At 6-month follow-up, among these 299 nodules, 6 were found to be false negatives and 12 nodules were lost to follow-up. Considering all nodules lost to follow-up as false negatives, the 6-month diagnostic yield was 77.4%. Pneumothorax complicated 8 (2.5%) of cases. There was 1 episode of respiratory failure.

    The objective of this study was to systematically locate, critically appraise, and summarize clinical measurement research addressing the use of Brief Pain Inventory-Short Form (BPI-SF) and Revised Short McGill Pain Questionnaire Version-2 (SF-MPQ-2) in pain-related musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions.

    We systematically searched 4 databases (Medline, CINAHL, EMBASE, and SCOPUS) and screened articles to identify those reporting the psychometric properties (eg, validity, reliability) and interpretability (eg, minimal clinically important difference) of BPI-SF and SF-MPQ-2 as evaluated in pain-related MSK conditions. Independently, 2 reviewers extracted data and assessed the quality of evidence with a structured quality appraisal tool and the updated COSMIN guidelines.

    In all, 26 articles were included (BPI-SF, n=17; SF-MPQ-2, n=9).     The present study compared physical, psychological, social well-being, and perceived stigmatization in individuals with clearly defined symptoms and underlying pathophysiology (rheumatoid arthritis, RA) and individuals with less well understood symptoms and pathophysiology (fibromyalgia, FM) using daily diaries. Furthermore, the association between daily perceived stigmatization and daily well-being was examined.

    Seventy-nine participants with FM, 86 participants with RA, and 33 participants with both diagnoses completed a diary for 14 consecutive days.

    Pain catastrophizing and pain acceptance are psychological factors that have been shown to be associated with pain-related outcomes and predict multidisciplinary pain treatment outcomes. However, they are rarely examined in the same study. This study aimed to (1) assess the independent roles of pain catastrophizingand pain acceptance as predictors of pain intensity, pain interference, and depression; and (2) evaluate the potential moderating role of pain acceptance on the association between pain catastrophizing and both pain and function.

    A sample of 467 adults with chronic pain completed an online survey including measures of pain intensity, pain interference, depression, pain catastrophizing, and pain acceptance.

    Pain catastrophizing and pain acceptance were independent predictors of pain interference. Only pain catastrophizing and the activity engagement domain of pain acceptance were independent predictors of pain intensity and depression. Activity engagement moderated the association between pain catastrophizing and depression, indicating a buffering effect on the negative effects of catastrophizing on depression. Pain willingness moderated the association between pain catastrophizing and pain interference, such that endorsing low pain willingness may override any negative effects of pain catastrophizing.

    The objective of the study was to explore and then validate the factor structure of the Pain Assessment Tool (PAT).

    A retrospective medical record review was performed of all infants who were admitted to a neonatal intensive care unit between 2008 and 2018 and had 1 PAT assessment (n=2111). Scores on items of the PAT were collected. Infants were randomized to either the principal component analysis (n=1100) to explore the factor structure or confirmatory factor analysis (n=1011).

    Infants in the 2 samples were demographically comparable. A 2-factor model, consisting of factors Behavioral and Physiological Pain Measures, was extracted, explaining 39.8% of the total variance. There was a low interfactor correlation (r=0.12), and both Behavioral (r=0.59) and Physiological Pain (r=0.37) Measures factor scores were correlated with nurses' perception of pain scores. When the frequencies in the gestational age at birth categories were compared between upper and lower quartile score infants, there was more with pain at preterm than at term (χ2(3)=44.

Research is needed to determine if treatments that target both for change are more effective than treatments that target only one. The objective of the study was to explore and then validate the factor structure of the Pain Assessment Tool (PAT). A retrospective medical record review was performed of all infants who were admitted to a neonatal intensive care unit between 2008 and 2018 and had 1 PAT assessment (n=2111). Scores on items of the PAT were collected. Infants were randomized to either the principal component analysis (n=1100) to explore the factor structure or confirmatory factor analysis (n=1011). Infants in the 2 samples were demographically comparable. A 2-factor model, consisting of factors Behavioral and Physiological Pain Measures, was extracted, explaining 39.8% of the total variance. There was a low interfactor correlation (r=0.12), and both Behavioral (r=0.59) and Physiological Pain (r=0.37) Measures factor scores were correlated with nurses' perception of pain scores. When the frequencies in the gestational age at birth categories were compared between upper and lower quartile score infants, there was more with pain at preterm than at term (χ2(3)=44.

  • Layered double hydroxides (LDHs) are promising soil contamination amendment agents for its efficient absorbing abilities. However, the application of LDHs in remediation of heavy metal contaminated soil are to be developed. In this study, we synthesized MgAlFe-LDHs by introducing Fe3+ into interlayer of the MgAl-LDHs using co-precipitation method. X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectrometer (FT-IR) and scanning electron microscope (SEM) were employed to characterized the micro structure of MgAlFe-LDHs. And then pot incubation and pilot experiments were conducted to investigate the heavy metal removal efficiencies of MgAlFe-LDHs and its potential being applicated in As contaminated soil amendment from a deserted arsenic plant site. Incubation experiments showed that the MgAlFe-LDHs had a higher removal efficiency on arsenic contaminated soil compared to other agents. And the results of pilot experiments indicated that the MgAlFe-LDHs can immobilize up to 90% of the As in soil with 5% (w/w) addition. Based on the results above, MgAlFe-LDHs are promising materials amending the heavy metal contaminated soil with practical application value.

Based on the partial ITS gene sequence analysis, 35 isolates were identified as Cronobacter malonaticus and two as Cronobacter sakazakii. The highest incidence of Cronobacter spp. was in dried fish (55.6%), followed by shellfish (33.3%). The virulence gene ompA was detected in two Cronobacter sakazakii isolates. This is the first report of the incidence of Cronobacter spp. in fresh and dried seafood from India, which highlights the need to focus on this emerging pathogen in tropical seafood.

Leaf rust is a highly destructive disease of barley caused by the fungal pathogen Puccinia hordei. Genetic resistance is considered to be the most effective, economical and eco-friendly approach to minimize losses caused by this disease.   • Passive energy storage and return (ESR) feet are current performance standard in lower limb prostheses. A recently developed semi-active variable-stiffness foot (VSF) prosthesis balances the simplicity of a passive ESR device with the adaptability of a powered design. The purpose of this study was to model and simulate the ESR properties of the VSF prosthesis. The ESR properties of the VSF were modeled as a lumped parameter overhung beam. The overhung length is variable, allowing the model to exhibit variable ESR stiffness. Foot-ground contact was modeled using sphere-to-plane contact models. Contact parameters were optimized to represent the geometry and dynamics of the VSF and its foam base. Static compression tests and gait were simulated. Simulation outcomes were compared to corresponding experimental data. Stiffness of the model matched that of the physical VSF (R2 0.98, root-mean-squared error (RMSE) 1.37 N/mm). Model-predicted resultant ground reaction force (GRFR) matched well under optimized parameter conditions (R2 0.98, RMSE 5.3% body weight,) and unoptimized parameter conditions (R2 0.90, mean RMSE 13% body weight). Anterior-posterior center of pressure matched well with R2 > 0.94 and RMSE  less then  9.5% foot length in all conditions. The ESR properties of the VSF were accurately simulated under benchtop testing and dynamic gait conditions. These methods may be useful for predicting GRFR arising from gait with novel prostheses. Such data are useful to optimize prosthesis design parameters on a user-specific basis.Divided attention has little effect for simple tasks, such as luminance detection, but it has large effects for complex tasks, such as semantic categorization of masked words. Here, we asked whether the semantic categorization of visual objects shows divided attention effects as large as those observed for words, or as small as those observed for simple feature judgments. Using a dual-task paradigm with nameable object stimuli, performance was compared with the predictions of serial and parallel models. At the extreme, parallel processes with unlimited capacity predict no effect of divided attention; alternatively, an all-or-none serial process makes two predictions a large divided attention effect (lower accuracy for dual-task trials, compared to single-task trials) and a negative response correlation in dual-task trials (a given response is more likely to be incorrect when the response about the other stimulus is correct). These predictions were tested in two experiments examining object judgments. In both experiments, there was a large divided attention effect and a small negative correlation in responses. The magnitude of these effects was larger than for simple features, but smaller than for words. These effects were consistent with serial models, and rule out some but not all parallel models. More broadly, the results help establish one of the first examples of likely serial processing in perception.Mendelian randomization (MR) is a powerful instrumental variable (IV) method for estimating the causal effect of an exposure on an outcome of interest even in the presence of unmeasured confounding by using genetic variants as IVs. However, the correlated and idiosyncratic pleiotropy phenomena in the human genome will lead to biased estimation of causal effects if they are not properly accounted for. In this article, we develop a novel MR approach named MRCIP to account for correlated and idiosyncratic pleiotropy simultaneously. We first propose a random-effect model to explicitly model the correlated pleiotropy and then propose a novel weighting scheme to handle the presence of idiosyncratic pleiotropy. The model parameters are estimated by maximizing a weighted likelihood function with our proposed PRW-EM algorithm. Moreover, we can also estimate the degree of the correlated pleiotropy and perform a likelihood ratio test for its presence. Extensive simulation studies show that the proposed MRCIP has improved performance over competing methods. We also illustrate the usefulness of MRCIP on two real datasets. The R package for MRCIP is publicly available at https//github.com/siqixu/MRCIP.RNA-binding proteins (RBPs) are emerging as important effectors of the cellular DNA damage response (DDR). The RBP FUS is implicated in RNA metabolism and DNA repair, and it undergoes reversible liquid-liquid phase separation (LLPS) in vitro. Here, we demonstrate that FUS-dependent LLPS is necessary for the initiation of the DDR. Using laser microirradiation in FUS-knockout cells, we show that FUS is required for the recruitment to DNA damage sites of the DDR factors KU80, NBS1, and 53BP1 and of SFPQ, another RBP implicated in the DDR. The relocation of KU80, NBS1, and SFPQ is similarly impaired by LLPS inhibitors, or LLPS-deficient FUS variants. We also show that LLPS is necessary for efficient γH2AX foci formation. To promote the utilization of unripe papaya based on the compositional changes of biological active metabolites, we performed liquid chromatography-Orbitrap-mass spectrometry-based analysis to reveal the comprehensive metabolite profile of the peel and pulp of unripe and ripe papaya fruits. The number of peaks annotated as phenolics and aminocarboxylic acids increased in the pulp and peel of ripe fruit, respectively. Putative carpaine derivatives, known alkaloids with cardiovascular effects, decreased, while carpamic acid derivatives increased in the peel of ripe fruit. Furthermore, the functionality of unripe fruit, the benzyl glucosinolate content, total polyphenol content, and proteolytic activity were detectable after heating and powder processing treatments, suggesting a potential utilization in powdered form as functional material.
