Emergence and collapse of coherent motions of self-propelled particles are affected more by particle motions and interactions than by their material or biological details. In this system, biofilaments glide along their polar strands on the turf of molecular motors and can align themselves nematically when they collide with each other. Our experiments show the counterintuitive result, in which the global order is achieved only when the crossing is allowed. When the crossing is prohibited, the cluster pattern emerges instead. We also investigate the numerical model in which we can change the strength of the volume exclusion effect and find that the global orientational order and clusters emerge with weak and strong volume exclusion effects, respectively. With those results and simple theory, we conclude that not only alignment but also finite crossing probability are necessary for the effective multiple-particles interaction forming the global order. Additionally, we describe the chiral symmetry breaking of a microtubule motion which causes a rotation of global alignment.The capacity to identify realizable many-body configurations associated with targeted functional forms for the pair correlation function g_2(r) or its corresponding structure factor S(k) is of great fundamental and practical importance. While there are obvious necessary conditions that a prescribed structure factor at number density ρ must satisfy to be configurationally realizable, sufficient conditions are generally not known due to the infinite degeneracy of configurations with different higher-order correlation functions. A major aim of this paper is to expand our theoretical knowledge of the class of pair correlation functions or structure factors that are realizable by classical disordered ensembles of particle configurations, including exotic "hyperuniform" varieties. We first introduce a theoretical formalism that provides a means to draw classical particle configurations from canonical ensembles with certain pairwise-additive potentials that could correspond to targeted analytical functional forms understanding of many-body physics. Moreover, our work can be applied to the design of materials with desirable physical properties that can be tuned by their pair statistics.We investigate conformations and dynamics of a polymer considering its monomers to be active Brownian particles. This active polymer shows very intriguing physical behavior which is absent in an active Rouse chain. The chain initially shrinks with active force, which starts swelling on further increase in force. The shrinkage followed by swelling is attributed purely to excluded-volume interactions among the monomers. In this work, we study this problem by employing the phase-space formulation of quantum mechanics. For those quantum states having well-defined classical counterparts, we study the quantum-classical correspondence and quantum corrections of the entropy. We expand the von Neumann entropy in powers of ℏ by using the phase-space formulation, and the zeroth-order term reproduces the Gibbs entropy. We also obtain the explicit expression of the quantum corrections of the entropy. Moreover, we find that for the thermodynamic equilibrium state, all terms odd in ℏ are exactly zero. As an application, we derive quantum corrections for the net work extraction during a quantum Carnot cycle. Our results bring important insights into the understanding of quantum entropy and may have potential applications in the study of quantum heat engines.The scaling limit of the Heisenberg XXZ spin chain at zero magnetic field is studied in the gapped antiferromagnetic phase. It is shown that the same scaling function describes the temperature dependence of the free energy of the infinite XXZ chain at low enough temperatures in the gapped scaling regime.We demonstrate that considerable variation of mean Prandtl number (Pr_0) from unity brings in an additional length scale (called the viscous penetration depth, δ_v) into the dynamics of instantaneous as well as time-averaged (mean) flow induced by thermoviscous expansion along a periodically heated solid wall. We investigate the limiting cases of high and low Prandtl numbers (Pr_0≫1 and Pr_0 ≪ 1) through detailed order-of-magnitude analysis. Our study reveals that the viscous penetration depth scales universally with Pr_0 so long as such depth remains small compared to the wavelength of the applied thermal wave. While a high Pr_0 is found to obstruct the mean flow, the converse is not necessarily true. Subsequent analysis clearly shows that a low-Pr_0 flow can induce negative thermoviscous force within the thermal boundary layer and thus retard the mean motion, leading to a nontrivial reduction of net mass flow along the plate. Numerical prediction of friction factor variation with Pr_0 agrees well with the scaling estimates for both high-Pr_0 and low-Pr_0 fluids.

Methods Participants were from the Berlin Aging Study (n = 444, M ± SD = 84.55 ± 8.38 years). Reported significance values for hazard ratios were adjusted for age, sex, socioeconomic status, smokers, depressive illness, functional status, cholesterol, and objectively assessed physical diseases. Results BMI emerged as a significant predictor of all-cause mortality after adjustment. WC was not a significant predictor of mortality either within the unadjusted model or when fully adjusted, including BMI. After the introduction of WC alongside all covariates, the effect for BMI remained significant. A significant quadratic effect for BMI and mortality within the fully adjusted model also emerged. Conclusions Our results suggest that lower BMI in the oldest old is associated with increased mortality hazards, and risks were particularly elevated for people who are underweight. This study found no evidence that higher BMI in old age is associated with increased mortality hazards relative to normal weight ranges.Background Lung cancer remains a major cause of death worldwide. Gender-based differences in incidence and diagnosis are likely to exist with respect to lung cancer because of smoking habits and stereotypes, geographic and socioeconomic differences, and past epidemiologic differences between the sexes. Here we aim to characterize the effects of gender on lung cancer diagnosis and whether such effects have changed over time. Methods The SEER (Statistics, Epidemiology, and End Results) database was used to check for sex-based differences by tumor type and stage at diagnosis and to inve not correlated with the rate of cancer in females, or the difference between male and female cancer rates. Conclusions Our study showed that there is no belated diagnosis of lung cancer in females. Results appear to point to the fact that smoking females are more likely to be diagnosed at later stages, which is consistent with the current literature.Purpose Organizations responding to the 2014-2016 Ebola epidemic in Sierra Leone collected information from multiple sources and kept it in separate databases, including distinct data systems for Ebola hot line calls, patient information collected by field surveillance officers, laboratory testing results, clinical information from Ebola treatment and isolation facilities, and burial team records. Methods After the conclusion of the epidemic, the Sierra Leone Ministry of Health and Sanitation and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention partnered to collect these disparate records and consolidate them in the Sierra Leone Ebola Database. Results The Sierra Leone Ebola Database data are providing a lasting resource for postepidemic data analysis and epidemiologic research, including identifying best strategies in outbreak response, and are used to help families locate the graves of family members who died during the epidemic. Stock solutions (100 mg/mL MS222) were mixed and stored in amber jars at 4 °C and -20 °C for 2- and 6-mo. Stability of the solutions was analyzed using liquid chromatography-ion trapmass spectrometry and compared with fresh MS222. Fifty adult (30 male, 20 female) wildtype AB zebrafish (Danio rerio) wererandomly anesthetized with 150 mg/L of one of the following MS222 solutions to evaluate anesthetic efficacy 1) freshly prepared(0m); 2) 2 mo at 4 °C (2m4); 3) 2 mo at -20 °C (2m-20); 4) 6 mo at 4 °C (6m4); 5) 6 mo at -20 °C (6m-20). Time to cessation of swimming, loss of equilibrium, lack of response to von Frey (VF) stimulation, return of equilibrium, and resumption of swimming were compared between groups. Two fish from each group were euthanized at 24-h and 2-wk after anesthesia, and histopathology was performed. All solutions were determined to be stable under all storage conditions. No clinically significant differences were observed between the fresh and stored stock groups during anesthetic testing. No evidence ofanesthetic-related histologic changes were noted in the gills, skin, kidneys, muscle, and central nervous system. Hepatic megalocytosis and a reduction in hepatic vacuolation were seen to varying degrees across all groups, but did not follow a treatment-related trend. Therefore, 100 mg/mL solutions of MS222 can be stored in amber jars at 4 °C or -20 °C for 6 mo and still used to effectively anesthetize zebrafish.To select animals of appropriate size for preclinical studies of cardiovascular devices, reference knowledge of the cardiovascularanatomy relative to body weight is crucial. We measured the luminal diameters of the arteries (carotid, femoral, and iliac arteries) that are the common access vessels for endovascular and vascular procedures in Yorkshire×Landrace *****. Measurements were performed by using both ultrasound and angiographic methods and were correlated with body weight. Results showed no statistically significant difference between the left and right vessels in the diameters of the carotid,femoral, and iliac arteries. The diameters of the measured arteries showed high correlation with animal weight in pigs thatweighed less than 70 kg.

Over the past few decades, the field has evolved from the addition of carbon electrophiles in a manner similar to that of protonation reactions to more organometallic-inspired reactivity, including insertions, 1,2-additions, and cycloadditions. Various N-C, N-Si, and N-B bond-forming reactions have been discovered, highlighting that the challenge for catalytic chemistry is not in the reactivity of coordinated dinitrogen but rather removal of the functionalized ligand from the coordination sphere of the metal.Tuning crystal phase transformations is very important for obtaining polymorphs for phosphors with the ideal optical properties and stability. Mn4+-doped K2GeF6 (KGF) is a typical polymorphic phosphor, but the thermodynamic and kinetic mechanism of its phase transformation is still unclear. Herein, the phase transformation of polymorphs varying from P63mc KGF and trigonal KGF to P63mc Si4+-doped KGF is realized by introducing the synergistic action of an HF solution and Si4+ ions. The full structural refinements of KGF polymorphs at room temperature and the electronic band structure calculations were performed. The results show that the Si4+-doped hexagonal KGF polymorph with good photoluminescence properties is the most stable phase according to the calculated total energy landscape and relative formation energy. The morphologic changes were monitored in situ to clearly understand the rapid phase transformation mechanism, which proves that the phase transformation is driven by a simple precipitation-dissolution equilibrium and ionic exchange.In this work, a simple electrochemiluminescence (ECL) imaging method based on the cell shield of the ECL emission was developed for the morphological and quantitative analysis of living cells under external stimulation. ECL images of MCF-7 cells cultured on or captured at the glassy carbon electrode (GCE) surface in a solution of tris(2,2'-bipyridyl)ruthenium(II)-tri-n-propylamine were recorded. Important morphological characteristics of living cells, including cell shape, cell area, average cell boundary, and junction distance between two adjacent cells, were directly obtained using the developed negative ECL imaging method. The ECL images revealed gradual morphological changes in cells on the GCE surface. During the course of H2O2 stimulation of cells on the GCE surface, cells shrunk, rounded up, disengaged from surrounding cells, and finally detached from the electrode surface. During the course of electrical stimulation (0.8 V), the cells on the GCE surface exhibited aggregation as demonstrated by increases in the average cell boundary and decreases in the junction distance between two adjacent cells. Additionally, a quantitative method for the sensitive determination of MCF-7 cells with a limit of detection of 29 cells/mL was developed using the negative ECL imaging strategy. This work demonstrates that the proposed negative ECL imaging strategy is a promising approach to assess important morphological characteristics of living cells during the course of external stimulation and to obtain quantitative information on cell concentrations in solution.Ionic conductors are normally prepared from water-based materials in the solid form and feature a combination of intrinsic transparency and stretchability. Herein, the phase transformation of polymorphs varying from P63mc KGF and trigonal KGF to P63mc Si4+-doped KGF is realized by introducing the synergistic action of an HF solution and Si4+ ions. The full structural refinements of KGF polymorphs at room temperature and the electronic band structure calculations were performed. The results show that the Si4+-doped hexagonal KGF polymorph with good photoluminescence properties is the most stable phase according to the calculated total energy landscape and relative formation energy. Important morphological characteristics of living cells, including cell shape, cell area, average cell boundary, and junction distance between two adjacent cells, were directly obtained using the developed negative ECL imaging method. The ECL images revealed gradual morphological changes in cells on the GCE surface. During the course of H2O2 stimulation of cells on the GCE surface, cells shrunk, rounded up, disengaged from surrounding cells, and finally detached from the electrode surface. During the course of electrical stimulation (0.8 V), the cells on the GCE surface exhibited aggregation as demonstrated by increases in the average cell boundary and decreases in the junction distance between two adjacent cells. Additionally, a quantitative method for the sensitive determination of MCF-7 cells with a limit of detection of 29 cells/mL was developed using the negative ECL imaging strategy. Oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) was performed with 75 g glucose in order to assess insulin secretion. Maximum normalized electromyography (EMG) data were collected from knee flexor and extensor muscles of seven subjects, who mimicked the shingle installation process on a slope-configurable wooden platform. The results revealed a significant increase in knee muscle activation during simulated shingle installation on sloped rooftops. Given the fact that increased muscle activation of knee postural muscles has been associated with knee MSDs, roof slope and awkward kneeling posture can be considered as potential knee MSD risk factors. Practitioner Summary This study demonstrated significant effects of roof slope and kneeling posture on the peak activation of knee postural muscles. The findings of this study suggested that residential roofers could be exposed to a greater risk of developing knee MSDs with the increase of roof slope during shingle installation due to increased muscle loading. Bivariate logistic regression analysis showed B/A (OR 10.48, 95%CI 1.55-70.81, P = 0.02) and BIND score (OR 3.68, 95%CI 1.39-9.72, P = 0.01) were correlated with adverse outcomes. Our study aimed to address the utility of such testing by determining the proportion of patients whose diagnosis was directly supported by metabolic screening. Methods We performed a retrospective chart review study of 164 patients under age one who had screening metabolic laboratory testing done within the time period of one calendar year. Results Of patients screened, 9/164 (5.5%) had diagnoses supported by metabolic testing (two with nonketotic hyperglycinemia, three with ornithine transcarbamylase deficiency, one with propionic acidemia, one with a congenital disorder of glycosylation, one with D-bifunctional protein deficiency, and one with GM1 Gangliosidosis). Of patients specifically evaluated for hypotonia and/or developmental delay, 5/79 (6.3%) were diagnosed with the aid of metabolic testing. All patients with positive screens presented with acute decompensation. Outside of this subgroup of high-risk patients, no patients were diagnosed using metabolic testing. Screening laboratories were also ineffective in an outpatient setting, identifying only one of the seven outpatients who was ultimately diagnosed with an inborn error of metabolism. Conclusions These findings demonstrate that the yield of specialized metabolic screening testing is extremely low in infants with hypotonia and/or developmental delay, approaching zero outside of the specific setting of clinical decompensation or multi-system involvement. Furthermore, many outpatient cases of IEM are not identified by screening studies. Most adult patients with SOS present with jaundice, whereas hyperbilirubinemia does not always occur in children. Additionally, while late-onset SOS is rare in adults, 15-20% of SOS cases develop beyond day 30 after HSCT in children. Procedure We investigated the incidence and prognosis of children with anicteric and late-onset SOS. We retrospectively analyzed the data of patients who developed SOS after HSCT conducted at our center between 2000 and 2016. Results A total of 22 patients with a median age of 6.5 years (range 0-16), including 14 males and eight females, developed SOS. Eight of the twenty-two patients were diagnosed as having anicteric SOS, and nine as having late-onset SOS. Patients with anicteric SOS had significantly lower incidence of SOS-related death at 100 days after HSCT (12.5% vs 64.3%, P = 0.03) and higher 2-year overall survival (OS) rate (60.0% vs 14.3%, P = .04) than patients with icteric SOS. One patient with anicteric SOS died from progression of SOS. There were no significant differences observed in these endpoints between patients who developed SOS before and after 21 days from HSCT. Bivariate logistic regression analysis showed B/A (OR 10.48, 95%CI 1.55-70.81, P = 0.02) and BIND score (OR 3.68, 95%CI 1.39-9.72, P = 0.01) were correlated with adverse outcomes. ROC curve analysis showed that B/A (≥8.9 mg/g), BIND score (≥6) could predict adverse outcomes of ABE separately; B/A in conjunction with BIND score could increase prediction sensitivity to 100%. Our study aimed to address the utility of such testing by determining the proportion of patients whose diagnosis was directly supported by metabolic screening. Methods We performed a retrospective chart review study of 164 patients under age one who had screening metabolic laboratory testing done within the time period of one calendar year. Results Of patients screened, 9/164 (5.5%) had diagnoses supported by metabolic testing (two with nonketotic hyperglycinemia, three with ornithine transcarbamylase deficiency, one with propionic acidemia, one with a congenital disorder of glycosylation, one with D-bifunctional protein deficiency, and one with GM1 Gangliosidosis). Of patients specifically evaluated for hypotonia and/or developmental delay, 5/79 (6.3%) were diagnosed with the aid of metabolic testing. All patients with positive screens presented with acute decompensation. Outside of this subgroup of high-risk patients, no patients were diagnosed using metabolic testing. Screening laboratories were also ineffective in an outpatient setting, identifying only one of the seven outpatients who was ultimately diagnosed with an inborn error of metabolism. Conclusions These findings demonstrate that the yield of specialized metabolic screening testing is extremely low in infants with hypotonia and/or developmental delay, approaching zero outside of the specific setting of clinical decompensation or multi-system involvement. Furthermore, many outpatient cases of IEM are not identified by screening studies. MMP20 is expressed in both odontoblasts and ameloblasts, but its function during dentinogenesis is unclear. Methods We characterized 10 AI kindreds with MMP20 defects, characterized human third molars and/or Mmp20-/- mice by histology, Backscattered Scanning Electron Microscopy (bSEM), µCT, and nanohardness testing. Results We identified six novel MMP20 disease-causing mutations. Four pathogenic variants were associated with exons encoding the MMP20 hemopexin-like (PEX) domain, suggesting a necessary regulatory function. Most adult patients with SOS present with jaundice, whereas hyperbilirubinemia does not always occur in children. Additionally, while late-onset SOS is rare in adults, 15-20% of SOS cases develop beyond day 30 after HSCT in children. Procedure We investigated the incidence and prognosis of children with anicteric and late-onset SOS. We retrospectively analyzed the data of patients who developed SOS after HSCT conducted at our center between 2000 and 2016. Results A total of 22 patients with a median age of 6.5 years (range 0-16), including 14 males and eight females, developed SOS. Eight of the twenty-two patients were diagnosed as having anicteric SOS, and nine as having late-onset SOS. Patients with anicteric SOS had significantly lower incidence of SOS-related death at 100 days after HSCT (12.5% vs 64.3%, P = 0.03) and higher 2-year overall survival (OS) rate (60.0% vs 14.3%, P = .04) than patients with icteric SOS. One patient with anicteric SOS died from progression of SOS. There were no significant differences observed in these endpoints between patients who developed SOS before and after 21 days from HSCT. The first ART interruption for ≥ 6 days per month (≤ 80%) was defined as ''ART-event'' and the first non-attendance of any scheduled appointment was defined as ''appointment-event''. Kaplan-Meier plot with a Log-rank test was used for event-free adherence (EFA). RESULTS Twenty-five patients out of 85 were diagnosed with ADHD (29.4 %) which was significantly higher than the highest percentage reported (7.3 %) for the general population (p less then 0.0001). Both ART-event (p = 0.0002) and appointment-event (p = 0.02) were significantly higher among ADHD participants compared to those without. Additionally, both ART-EFA (p = 0.00014) and appointment-EFA (p = 0.023) were significantly shorter among ADHD participants compared to those without. Atrophic gastritis, gastric and duodenal ulcers were significantly more common in HP positive patients. Age based distribution of HP prevalence > 6 decades (15.5%), 3rd-5th decades (26.1%), less then 3rd decades (10.4%). CONCLUSION In an HP endemic country, the prevalence of HP infection among symptomatic patients belonging to the upper socioeconomic segment of the population appears to be markedly lower. The lowest prevalence in young patients is expected to result in future decrease in HP prevalence. RESULTS The combined use of Pulsed Field Gel Electrophoresis (PFGE), Multi-Locus Sequencing Typing, Multi-Locus Variable Analysis (MLVA) and Spa typing techniques allowed the identification of two dominant clones ST30-IV-t019 (77%) and ST5-IV-t311 (10%), and the establishment of the former as the leading cause of CA-MRSA infections in children during the study period. CONCLUSIONS This is the first study that provides epidemiological information as well as microbiological and molecular characteristics of CA-MRSA isolates recovered from children from Asunción and the Central Department of Paraguay. METHODOLOGY A cross-sectional study was conducted at Shaafi Hospital, Mogadishu, Somalia. A total of 128 samples were collected from outpatients suspected of UTI and tested through bacteriological investigations and antimicrobial susceptibility tests following the Kirby-Bauer agar disc diffusion method. RESULTS E. coli was isolated in 34 (41%) out of the total 83 samples that showed growth followed by Staphylococcus aureus 22 (26.5%), Pseudomonas aeruginosa, 13 (15.7%), Klebsiella pneumoniae 8 (9.

This study evaluates the impact of assimilating moderate resolution imaging spectroradiometer (MODIS) aerosol optical depth (AOD) data using different data assimilation (DA) methods on dust analyses and forecasts over North Africa and tropical North Atlantic. To do so, seven experiments are conducted using the Weather Research and Forecasting dust model and the Gridpoint Statistical Interpolation analysis system. Six of these experiments differ in whether or not AOD observations are assimilated and the DA method used, the latter of which includes the three-dimensional variational (3D-Var), ensemble square root filter (EnSRF), and hybrid methods. The seventh experiment, which allows us to assess the impact of assimilating deep blue AOD data, assimilates only dark target AOD data using the hybrid method. The assimilation of MODIS AOD data clearly improves AOD analyses and forecasts up to 48 hr in length. Results also show that assimilating deep blue data has a primarily positive effect on AOD analyses and forecasts over and downstream of the major North African source regions. Without assimilating deep blue data (assimilating dark target only), AOD assimilation only improves AOD forecasts for up to 30 hr. Of the three DA methods examined, the hybrid and EnSRF methods produce better AOD analyses and forecasts than the 3D-Var method does. Despite the clear benefit of AOD assimilation for AOD analyses and forecasts, the lack of information regarding the vertical distribution of aerosols in AOD data means that AOD assimilation has very little positive effect on analyzed or forecasted vertical profiles of backscatter.In China, irrigation is widespread in 40.7% cropland to sustain crop yields. By its action on water cycle, irrigation affects water resources and local climate. In this study, a new irrigation module, including flood and paddy irrigation technologies, was developed in the ORCHIDEE-CROP land surface model which describes crop phenology and growth in order to estimate irrigation demands over China from 1982 to 2014. Three simulations were performed including NI (no irrigation), IR (with irrigation limited by local water resources), and FI (with irrigation demand fulfilled). Observations and census data were used to validate the simulations. Results showed that the estimated irrigation water withdrawal ( W ) based on IR and FI scenarios bracket statistical W with fair spatial agreements ( r = 0 . 68 ± 0 . 07 ; p less then 0 . 01 ). Improving irrigation efficiency was found to be the dominant factor leading to the observed W decrease. By comparing simulated total water storage (TWS) with GRACE observations, we found that simulated TWS with irrigation well explained the TWS variation over China. However, our simulation overestimated the seasonality of TWS in the Yangtze River Basin due to ignoring regulation of artificial reservoirs. The observed TWS decrease in the Yellow River Basin caused by groundwater depletion was not totally captured in our simulation, but it can be inferred by combining simulated TWS with census data. Moreover, we demonstrated that land use change tended to drive W locally but had little effect on total W over China due to water resources limitation.Numerical weather prediction models require ever-growing computing time and resources but, still, have sometimes difficulties with predicting weather extremes. We introduce a data-driven framework that is based on analog forecasting (prediction using past similar patterns) and employs a novel deep learning pattern-recognition technique (capsule neural networks, CapsNets) and an impact-based autolabeling strategy. Using data from a large-ensemble fully coupled Earth system model, CapsNets are trained on midtropospheric large-scale circulation patterns (Z500) labeled 0-4 depending on the existence and geographical region of surface temperature extremes over North America several days ahead. The trained networks predict the occurrence/region of cold or heat waves, only using Z500, with accuracies (recalls) of 69-45% (77-48%) or 62-41% (73-47%) 1-5 days ahead. Using both surface temperature and Z500, accuracies (recalls) with CapsNets increase to ∼ 80% (88%). In both cases, CapsNets outperform simpler techniques such as convolutional neural networks and logistic regression, and their accuracy is least affected as the size of the training set is reduced. The results show the promises of multivariate data-driven frameworks for accurate and fast extreme weather predictions, which can potentially augment numerical weather prediction efforts in providing early warnings.The Community Land Model Urban (CLMU) is an urban parameterization developed to simulate urban climate within a global Earth System Model framework. The seventh experiment, which allows us to assess the impact of assimilating deep blue AOD data, assimilates only dark target AOD data using the hybrid method. The assimilation of MODIS AOD data clearly improves AOD analyses and forecasts up to 48 hr in length. Results also show that assimilating deep blue data has a primarily positive effect on AOD analyses and forecasts over and downstream of the major North African source regions. Without assimilating deep blue data (assimilating dark target only), AOD assimilation only improves AOD forecasts for up to 30 hr. Of the three DA methods examined, the hybrid and EnSRF methods produce better AOD analyses and forecasts than the 3D-Var method does. Despite the clear benefit of AOD assimilation for AOD analyses and forecasts, the lack of information regarding the vertical distribution of aerosols in AOD data means that AOD assimilation has very little positive effect on analyzed or forecasted vertical profiles of backscatter.In China, irrigation is widespread in 40.7% cropland to sustain crop yields. By its action on water cycle, irrigation affects water resources and local climate. In this study, a new irrigation module, including flood and paddy irrigation technologies, was developed in the ORCHIDEE-CROP land surface model which describes crop phenology and growth in order to estimate irrigation demands over China from 1982 to 2014. Three simulations were performed including NI (no irrigation), IR (with irrigation limited by local water resources), and FI (with irrigation demand fulfilled). Observations and census data were used to validate the simulations. Results showed that the estimated irrigation water withdrawal ( W ) based on IR and FI scenarios bracket statistical W with fair spatial agreements ( r = 0 . 68 ± 0 . 07 ; p less then 0 . 01 ). Improving irrigation efficiency was found to be the dominant factor leading to the observed W decrease. By comparing simulated total water storage (TWS) with GRACE observations, we found that simulated TWS with irrigation well explained the TWS variation over China. However, our simulation overestimated the seasonality of TWS in the Yangtze River Basin due to ignoring regulation of artificial reservoirs. The observed TWS decrease in the Yellow River Basin caused by groundwater depletion was not totally captured in our simulation, but it can be inferred by combining simulated TWS with census data. Moreover, we demonstrated that land use change tended to drive W locally but had little effect on total W over China due to water resources limitation.Numerical weather prediction models require ever-growing computing time and resources but, still, have sometimes difficulties with predicting weather extremes. We introduce a data-driven framework that is based on analog forecasting (prediction using past similar patterns) and employs a novel deep learning pattern-recognition technique (capsule neural networks, CapsNets) and an impact-based autolabeling strategy. Using data from a large-ensemble fully coupled Earth system model, CapsNets are trained on midtropospheric large-scale circulation patterns (Z500) labeled 0-4 depending on the existence and geographical region of surface temperature extremes over North America several days ahead. The trained networks predict the occurrence/region of cold or heat waves, only using Z500, with accuracies (recalls) of 69-45% (77-48%) or 62-41% (73-47%) 1-5 days ahead. Using both surface temperature and Z500, accuracies (recalls) with CapsNets increase to ∼ 80% (88%). In both cases, CapsNets outperform simpler techniques such as convolutional neural networks and logistic regression, and their accuracy is least affected as the size of the training set is reduced. Results The sensitivity of SPF10 PCR-DEIA-LiPA25 was higher than Linear Array, with the exception of HPV 70, for the detection of oral HPV. The prevalence ratio of SPF10 PCR-DEIA-LiPA25 to Linear Array varied between 1.0 and 9.0 for individual HPV genotypes, excluding HPV 70, and between 3.8 and 4.4 for grouped 4-valent and 9-valent HPV vaccine types, respectively. The minor by-products of 13-HPOD and 13-HPOT conversions by these enzymes were the oxiranyl carbinols, 11-hydroxy-12,13-epoxy-9-octadecenoic and 11-hydroxy-12,13-epoxy-9,15-octadecadienoic acid. At the same time, all enzymes studied converted 9-hydroperoxides into corresponding oxiranyl carbinols with HPL by-products. Here we investigate self-assembled amino-acid appended perylene bisimides (PBIs) that when processed into thin films change their resistivity in response to being ****. The PBIs self-assemble into structures in water and form thin films upon drying. These normally delicate thin films can be tolerant to bending, depending on the aggregates they form. Tools that include machine learning methods have been able to identify suicidal language. This paper examines the persistence of this suicidal language up to 30 days after discharge from care. Method In a multi-center study, 253 subjects were enrolled into either suicidal or control cohorts. Their responses to standardized instruments and interviews were analyzed using machine learning algorithms. Subjects were re-interviewed approximately 30 days later, and their language was compared to the original language to determine the presence of suicidal ideation. Results The results show that language characteristics used to classify suicidality at the initial encounter are still present in the speech 30 days later (AUC = 89% (95% CI 85-95%), p less then .0001) and that algorithms trained on the second interviews could also identify the subjects that produced the first interviews (AUC = 85% (95% CI 81-90%), p less then .0001). Conclusions This approach explores the stability of suicidal language. When using advanced computational methods, the results show that a patient's language is similar 30 days after first captured, while responses to standard measures change. Tools that include machine learning methods have been able to identify suicidal language. This paper examines the persistence of this suicidal language up to 30 days after discharge from care. Method In a multi-center study, 253 subjects were enrolled into either suicidal or control cohorts. Their responses to standardized instruments and interviews were analyzed using machine learning algorithms. Subjects were re-interviewed approximately 30 days later, and their language was compared to the original language to determine the presence of suicidal ideation. Results The results show that language characteristics used to classify suicidality at the initial encounter are still present in the speech 30 days later (AUC = 89% (95% CI 85-95%), p less then .0001) and that algorithms trained on the second interviews could also identify the subjects that produced the first interviews (AUC = 85% (95% CI 81-90%), p less then .0001). Conclusions This approach explores the stability of suicidal language. When using advanced computational methods, the results show that a patient's language is similar 30 days after first captured, while responses to standard measures change. PRIMARY OUTCOME Percentage of patients who were in remission at 6 and 12months. Secondary outcome Percentage of patients in remission at the last follow-up, rituximab dose and adverse events of rituximab therapy. RESULTS Fifty-three adults with SD/FR/SR NS received CD19-targeted rituximab. The median age at the time of first rituximab injection was 30.09±13.21 (16,53) years. At the time of first rituximab infusion, all patients were in remission with steroids and/or CNIs. Fifty (94.33%) patients were in remission at the end of 6, 12months and the last follow-up (median- 36months). The mean total dose of rituximab at 1-year was 788.7±128.1 (6001100) mg. At last follow-up (median 36months), 42 (79%) patients did not require any additional CNI or steroids therapy. No serious adverse events to rituximab was noted. Methods Program data were collected at four facilities from October 2018 to March 2019 from index case files and HIV-testing register. We compared uptake of the approaches, uptake of HIV testing, and HIV positivity percentages, stratified by contact type and gender. Results There were 1,089 sex partners and 469 children from 1,089 newly diagnosed index cases. About 90% of children were contacted through client referral 85.2% of those were tested and 1.4% was positive. 90% of children came from female index cases. The provider referral brought in 56.3% of sex partners, of whom 97.2% were HIV-tested. The client referral brought in 30% of sex partners, of whom only 81.5% were HIV-tested. HIV positivity percentages were 75.5% and 72.7% respectively for the two approaches. Male index cases helped to reach twice as many HIV positive sexual contacts outside the household (115) than female index cases (53). The contract and dual referrals were not preferred by index cases. Conclusion Provider referral is a successful and acceptable strategy for bringing in sex partners for testing. Design Death-related data were retrospectively and prospectively assessed in a longitudinal regional cohort study. Methods Children under routine HIV care at sites in Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam between 2008-2017 were followed. Causes of death were reported and then independently and centrally reviewed. Predictors were compared using competing risks survival regression analyses. Results Among 5918 children, 5523 (93%; 52% male) had ever been on combination antiretroviral therapy (cART). Of 371 (6.3%) deaths, 312 (84%) occurred in those with a history of cART (crude all-cause mortality 9.6 per 1000 person-years; total follow-up time 32,361 person-years). In this group, median age at death was 7.0 (2.9-13) years; median CD4 count was 73 (16-325) cells/mm3. Design Death-related data were retrospectively and prospectively assessed in a longitudinal regional cohort study. Methods Children under routine HIV care at sites in Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam between 2008-2017 were followed. Causes of death were reported and then independently and centrally reviewed. Predictors were compared using competing risks survival regression analyses. Results Among 5918 children, 5523 (93%; 52% male) had ever been on combination antiretroviral therapy (cART). Of 371 (6.3%) deaths, 312 (84%) occurred in those with a history of cART (crude all-cause mortality 9.6 per 1000 person-years; total follow-up time 32,361 person-years). In this group, median age at death was 7.0 (2.9-13) years; median CD4 count was 73 (16-325) cells/mm3.
