  • Results After 4 months of inoculation, multiple thin-walled, transparent hydatid cysts were observed in the rat skull. All cysts were infertile. The cysts were localized prominently on the cerebral cortex and lesser in the parenchyma and ventricles. The cyst walls consisted of three layers consist of the outer layer (fibrous capsule), two parasitic layers and the endocyst layer (germinal layer). The cyst was surrounded by the inflammatory cells consist of lymphocytes, plasma cells and macrophages. Conclusion To the best of our knowledge, this research is the first experimental cerebral hydatidosis arisen from larval stage of Echinococcus granulosus in the animal model.Background Intestinal parasitic infections (IPIs) are among the most important etiologies of gastrointestinal disorders in developing countries. The present study was performed to determine the prevalence of IPIs in rural inhabitants of Fouman, northern Iran. Methods Overall, 31 villages were randomly selected during 2015-2016. Stool samples were collected from 1500 inhabitants aged 2-87. The samples were examined by direct wet smear, formalin ethyl-acetate concentration and agar plate culture. Trichrome staining and modified acid-fast staining were used as confirmatory tests for intestinal amoeba and flagellates and cryptosporidium spp., respectively. Data were analyzed with Chi-Square and Fisher exact tests using SPSS. Results 8.06% of participants were positive for at least one intestinal parasite. The prevalence of mixed parasitic infections was 0.87%. The most prevalent IPIs were caused by Trichostrongylus spp. (3.13%), followed by Strongyloides stercoralis (1.5%), Giardia lamblia (1.3%), and Entamoeba coli (1.0%), Blastocystis hominis (0.86%), E. histolytica/dispar (0.53%), Endolimax nana (0.26%), Iodamoeba butschlii (0.13%), Trichuris trichiura (0.07%), Enterobius vermicularis (0.07%), Hook worm (0.07%) and E. hartmani (0.07%). Statistically, the prevalence of IPIs showed significant differences regarding the age groups, education status, occupation (P less then 0.001), and the habit of eating raw vegetables (P less then 0.007), whereas, the differences were insignificant with regard to sex (P=0.924) and water supply (P=0.088). Conclusion The prevalence of IPIs, especially soil-transmitted helminthes (STHs) has sharply decreased in northern Iran. Excluding Trichostrongylus spp. and S. stercoralis, other intestinal parasites only produce a marginal and unnoticeable health problem in this area, today.Background In the current study, we described the epidemiological features, clinical presentation, diagnosis and management of patients with suspicion of fascioliasis in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province in southwest of Iran. Methods Overall, 56 patients with suspicion of fascioliasis, based on their clinical signs and symptoms that referred to Clinic of Internal Medicine in Yasuj city, from 2014 to 2016 were enrolled. Demographic data, history of eating aquatic local plants, the chief complains, and laboratory findings were recorded for each patient. Stool samples were obtained from each case for detection of Fasciola eggs. Moreover, blood samples were taken from each patient and evaluated for detection of anti-Fasciola antibodies by an indirect ELISA. Patients who defined as having fascioliasis were treated with triclabendazole and were followed for at least three months for clinical improvement. Results Serological test was positive in 5 patients. Of these 5 cases, three cases had a history of ingesting raw aquatic vegetables. The main clinical signs and symptoms in positive cases were; abdominal pain (60%), epigastric pain (40%), anemia (60%), and dermal pruritus (20%). Hypereosinophilia was seen in all of 5 positive cases. No Fasciola egg was found in stool specimens of any of the patients. The fascioliasis cases were treated by triclabendazole and clinical symptoms disappeared in all of 5 cases. Conclusion Our observation further confirmed Yasuj district as a human endemic area for fascioliasis in Iran. The study also highlighted the importance of clinical features together with eosinophilia, as key parameters, in the diagnosis of human fascioliasis. Clinicians need to be aware of this disease and should keep in mind fascioliasis when hypereosinophilia present in patients in such endemic areas.Background Echinococcus granulosus parasite causes a zoonotic disease which is important for public and veterinary health. Since pumpkin seeds (Cucurbita sp.) are used as traditional vermifuge in Iran, they may be a potential herbal anthelmintic. Methods This study was designed in 2016 to evaluate the in vitro scolicidal effect of Cucurbita moschata seeds form northern part of Iran. Hydroalcoholic and petroleum ether extracts were prepared by maceration and soxhlet respectively. Both extracts with four different concentrations (100, 10, 1, 0.1 mg/ml) were incubated against protoscoleces in 5, 15, 30 and 60 min. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/Puromycin-2HCl.html Results Maximum mortality was 16% with 1% hydroalcoholic extract in 60 min. This study assessed the in vitro effects of Streptomyces tyrosinase, produced from Streptomyces spp. isolated from Egyptian soil, on animal-parasitic nematode Toxocara vitulorum, in terms of egg development and adult worm's cuticular structure, and as an alternative strategy to alleviate this infection. Methods This study was conducted at the National Research Centre, Egypt in 2018. Five different concentrations of tyrosinase, ranged from 1%-30% were tested against the development of T. vitulorum eggs. The concentration induced the highest inhibitory activity was tested against adult T. vitulorum cuticle, which is essential for the protective and nutritive functions. The results were compared with those observed in the egg development and worm cuticle following incubation in Streptomyces protease (as a reference enzyme).

  • In this paper, fabrication of a new material is reported, the so-called Aero-Ga2O3 or Aerogallox, which represents an ultra-porous and ultra-lightweight three-dimensional architecture made from interconnected microtubes of gallium oxide with nanometer thin walls. The material is fabricated using epitaxial growth of an ultrathin layer of gallium nitride on zinc oxide microtetrapods followed by decomposition of sacrificial ZnO and oxidation of GaN which according to the results of X-ray diffraction (XRD) and X-ray photoemission spectroscopy (XPS) characterizations, is transformed gradually in β-Ga2O3 with almost stoichiometric composition. The investigations show that the developed ultra-porous Aerogallox exhibits extremely low reflectivity and high transmissivity in an ultrabroadband electromagnetic spectrum ranging from X-band (8-12 GHz) to several terahertz which opens possibilities for quite new applications of gallium oxide, previously not anticipated.Advancement and innovation in bone regeneration, specifically polymeric composite scaffolds, are of high significance for the treatment of bone defects. Xyloglucan (XG) is a polysaccharide biopolymer having a wide variety of regenerative tissue therapeutic applications due to its biocompatibility, in-vitro degradation and cytocompatibility. Current research is focused on the fabrication of polymeric bioactive scaffolds by freeze drying method for nanocomposite materials. The nanocomposite materials have been synthesized from free radical polymerization using n-SiO2 and n-HAp XG and Methacrylic acid (MAAc). Functional group analysis, crystallinity and surface morphology were investigated by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) techniques, respectively. These bioactive polymeric scaffolds presented interconnected and well-organized porous morphology, controlled precisely by substantial ratios of n-SiO2. The swelling analysis was also performed in different media at varying temperatures (27, 37 and 47 °C) and the mechanical behavior of the dried scaffolds is also investigated. Antibacterial activities of these scaffolds were conducted against pathogenic gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Besides, the biological behavior of these scaffolds was evaluated by the Neutral Red dye assay against the MC3T3-E1 cell line. The scaffolds showed interesting properties for bone tissue engineering, including porosity with substantial mechanical strength, biodegradability, biocompatibility and cytocompatibility behavior. The reported polymeric bioactive scaffolds can be aspirant biomaterials for bone tissue engineering to regenerate defecated bone.Immunoassays are among the frontline methods used for disease diagnosis and surveillance. Despite this, there are no immunoassays developed for the Chinese soft-shelled turtle (Pelodiscus sinensis), which has expanded into large scale commercial production in several Asian countries. One of the critical factors delaying the development of immunoassays is the lack of characterized soft-shelled turtle immunoglobulins. Herein, we used mass spectrometry together with the ProtQuest software to identify the soft-shelled turtle IgM heavy chain in serum, which again was used to produce a polyclonal anti-turtle-IgM in rabbits. Thereafter, the polyclonal anti-turtle-IgM was used as a secondary antibody in an indirect ELISA to evaluate antibody responses of soft-shelled turtles injected with the bovine serum albumin (BSA) model antigen. Our findings show that only turtle immunized with a water-in-oil BSA plus ISA 763A VG adjuvant (SEPPIC, France) emulsion had antibodies detected at 42 days post vaccination (dpv) while turtles injected with phosphate buffered saline (PBS) only as well as turtle injected with BSA dissolved in PBS had no significant antibody levels detected in serum throughout the study period. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/cvn293.html In summary, our findings show that rabbit polyclonal anti-turtle-IgM produced can be used in ELISA to measure serum antibody responses in immunized soft-shelled turtles. Here, we describe the predominant route for the conversion of asparagine to acrylamide in the Maillard reaction. The effect of sulphur deficiency and its interaction with nitrogen availability is reviewed, and we reiterate our advice that sulphur should be applied to wheat being grown for human consumption at a rate of 20 kg per hectare. We describe the genetic control of free asparagine accumulation, including genes that encode metabolic enzymes (asparagine synthetase, glutamine synthetase, glutamate synthetase, and asparaginase), regulatory protein kinases (sucrose nonfermenting-1 (SNF1)-related protein kinase-1 (SnRK1) and general control nonderepressible-2 (GCN2)), and basic leucine zipper (bZIP) transcription factors, and how this genetic control responds to sulphur, highlighting the importance of asparagine synthetase-2 (ASN2) expression in the embryo. We show that expression of glutamate-cysteine ligase is reduced in response to sulphur deficiency, probably compromising glutathione synthesis. Finally, we describe unexpected effects of sulphur deficiency on carbon metabolism in the endosperm, with large increases in expression of sucrose synthase-2 (SuSy2) and starch synthases.In this paper, we propose a methodology to use the received signal strength indicator (RSSI) available by the protocol stack of an installed Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) at an electric-power-system environment (EPS) as a tool for obtaining the characteristic of its communication channel. Thereby, it is possible to optimize the settings and configuration of the network after its deployment, which is usually run empirically without any previous knowledge of the channel. A study case of a hydroelectric power plant is presented, where measurements recorded over a two-month period were analyzed and treated to obtain the large-scale characteristics of the radiofrequency channel at 2.4 GHz. In addition, we showed that instantaneous RSSI data can also be used to detect specific issues in the network, such as repetitive patterns in the transmitted power level of the nodes, and information about its environment, such as the presence of external sources of electromagnetic interference. As a result, we demonstrate the practical use of the RSSI long-term data generated by the WSN for its own performance optimization and the detection of particular events in an EPS or any similar industrial environment.

The risk-benefit ratio for alternative interventions is more favorable than for antipsychotics in long-term treatment. Dietary interventions may target autoimmune features, vitamin or mineral deficiencies, abnormal lipid metabolism, gluten sensitivity, or others. Examples of interventions involving diet, physical activity, or physical processes or social interventions including talk therapy exist in the literature. Notwithstanding, the general utility of these types of interventions remains inconclusive, awaiting long-term randomized trials. A perspective that separates the cause of the disease from its symptoms may be helpful in treatment planning and is warranted to distinguish between short-term and long-term recovery goals.INTRODUCTION The number of female residents in orthopaedic surgery is rising; however, orthopaedics currently has the lowest percentage of women among all medical specialties. The Hirsch index (h-index) is a metric used to determine research productivity, an important factor for academic promotion in the field of orthopaedics. The purpose of this study was to compare research productivity (using the h-index) among male and female orthopaedic surgeons at academic residency programs within the United States. METHODS The websites for all Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education-accredited orthopaedic surgery residency programs in the United States were evaluated and the following information was collected geographic region of the institution, sex, specialty, academic rank, and institutional leadership positions of faculty members. The h-index for each faculty member was collected from the Web of Science Database. RESULTS H-indices of 4,323 academic orthopaedic surgeons from 160 residency programs in lly productive as their male counterparts. Despite similar research productivity, female orthopaedic surgeons are not nearly as well represented as their male counterparts in orthopaedics in general and in leadership positions within the field. In addition, a significantly smaller research productivity among female assistant professors disappears at the higher ranks in comparison to their male counterparts. This indicates a critical gap in factors that influence research productivity according to sex at the most junior faculty rank. METHODS Iodine inserts of various concentrations and sizes were embedded into different sizes of adult abdominal phantoms. Phantoms were scanned on a research PCD-CT and a clinical EID-CT with SE and DE modes. Virtual monoenergetic images (VMIs) were generated from PCD-CT and DE mode of EID-CT. For each image type and phantom size, contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR) was measured for each iodine insert and the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) for iodine detectability was calculated using a channelized Hotelling observer. The optimal energy (in kiloelectrovolt) of VMIs was determined separately as the one with highest CNR and the one with the highest AUC. The PCD-CT VMIs at the optimal energy were then compared with DE VMIs and SE images in terms of CNR and AUC. RESULTS Virtual monoenergetic image at 50 keV had both the highest CNR and highest AUC for PCD-CT and DECT. For 1.0 mg I/mL iodine and 35 cm phantom, the CNRs of 50 keV VMIs from PCD-CT (2.01 ± 0.67) and DE (1.96 ± 0.52) were significantly higher (P less then 0.001, Wilcoxon signed-rank test) than SE images (1.11 ± 0.35). The AUC of PCD-CT (0.98 ± 0.01) was comparable to SE (0.98 ± 0.01), and both were slightly lower than DE (0.99 ± 0.01, P less then 0.01, Wilcoxon signed-rank test). A similar trend was observed for other phantom sizes and iodine concentrations. They are also usually disabling for affected individuals. The diagnosis is challenging because no single walking pattern is pathognomonic for a functional gait disorder. Establishing a diagnosis is based not primarily on excluding organic gait disorders but instead predominantly on recognizing positive clinical features of functional gait disorders, such as an antalgic, a buckling, or a waddling gait. However, these features can resemble and overlap with organic gait disorders. It is therefore necessary to also look for inconsistency (variations in clinical presentation that cannot be reconciled with an organic lesion) and incongruity (combination of symptoms and signs that is not seen with organic lesions). Yet, these features also have potential pitfalls as inconsistency can occur in patients with dystonic gait or those with freezing of gait. Similarly, patients with dystonia or chorea can present with bizarre gait patterns that may falsely be interpreted as incongruity. A further complicating factor is that functional and organic gait disorders may coexist within the same patient. To improve the diagnostic process, we present a sign-based approach-supported by videos-that incorporates the diverse clinical spectrum of functional gait disorders. We identify 7 groups of supportive gait signs that can signal the presence of functional gait disorders. Methods Consecutive patients from a single institution who underwent venous sinus stenting for IIH with measurement of bilateral pressure gradients before and after stenting for IIH were enrolled. Pressure gradients in both TSS pre- and post-stenting were measured during the procedure. The TSS with the highest gradient was stented. Changes in TSS pressure gradients following stent placement were calculated for both TSS. Mean changes in pressure gradients of ipsilateral and contralateral TSS were calculated. Results Sixteen patients with IIH who underwent TSS stenting were included. All were female. Mean age was 36.4 years. The right-sided TSS was the stented side in 12 (75.0%) patients. The mean pre-stent pressure gradient of the ipsilateral TSS was 19.3 mmHg (SD=10.8), which was reduced to a mean of 3.8 mmHg (3.4) following stent placement (P = less then 0.0001). On the contralateral (non-stented) side, the mean pre-stent gradient of 15.1 mmHg (7.5) was reduced to a mean of 7.8 mmHg (6.6) following stenting (P=0.006). Blocking the nuclear import of GAPDH by suppressing Src signaling or through a GAPDH Tyr41 mutation impairs its response to DNA damage. Nuclear GAPDH is recruited to DNA lesions and associates with DNA polymerase β (Pol β) to function in DNA repair. Nuclear GAPDH promotes Pol β polymerase activity and increases base excision repair (BER) efficiency. It was designed as a multi-institutional joint research project with seven major centers in Japan participating. The committee members of seven major medical centers specializing in bone and soft tissue tumors formed this study group to develop clinical care guidelines. Of 196 cases with specimens and medical records collected from the 7 institutions, 88 surgically treated ones were analyzed regarding clinicopathological prognostic factors including CTNNB1 mutation status. Excluding R2 cases (n=3), 5-year local recurrence free survival (LRFS) was 52.9%. No case had received pre- or post-operative radiotherapy. Univariate analysis revealed that extremity location (P less then 0.001) and larger size (≧8cm, P=0.036) were significant adverse risk factors for LRFS. Multivariate analysis demonstrated that extremity location (P less then 0.001) was a significantly adverse factor in addition to recurrent tumor (P=0.041), S45F mutation (P=0.028), and R1 surgical margin (P=0.039). Pre-operative drug treatment including NSAIDs did not reduce the incidence of local recurrence (P=0.199). In this study, we conducted 1 H- NMR to evaluate the metabolomic changes in RAW264.7 cells after treatment with retinol at an IC50 dose to identify its effects on the differential metabolites and main metabolic pathways. Our results showed that the IC50 dose (140 μM) of retinol affected the metabolism of RAW264.7 cells, with a total of 22 differential metabolites identified via 1 H-NMR, including amino acids, sugars, organic acids, glutathione, glycerin, and creatine. Additionally, multiple metabolic pathways were affected by retinol treatment, including downregulation of amino acid biosynthesis, protein synthesis, and pyruvate metabolism. We speculate that the cytotoxicity of retinol at the IC50 dose is attributed to mitochondrial dysfunction as a result of oxidative stress or lipid peroxidation. PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS With the general improvement of people's living standards, people use dietary supplements to improve the level of retinol to prevent non-specific diseases. But there are more and more cases of acute or chronic poisoning caused by excessive intake of vitamin A. Therefore, it is necessary to study the toxicity of vitamin A, and more attention should be paid to the excessive intake of vitamin A. From the perspective of metabolomics, this experiment studies the adverse effects of high dose retinol through the changes of metabolites and metabolic pathways at the cellular level. This study will assist further analyses of the toxic mechanism of excessive retinol as fortified foods and nutrient supplementation.

This phosphorylation of GAPDH is essential for its nuclear translocation and DNA repair function. Blocking the nuclear import of GAPDH by suppressing Src signaling or through a GAPDH Tyr41 mutation impairs its response to DNA damage. Nuclear GAPDH is recruited to DNA lesions and associates with DNA polymerase β (Pol β) to function in DNA repair. Nuclear GAPDH promotes Pol β polymerase activity and increases base excision repair (BER) efficiency. Furthermore, GAPDH knockdown dramatically decreases BER efficiency and sensitizes cells to DNA damaging agents. It was designed as a multi-institutional joint research project with seven major centers in Japan participating. The committee members of seven major medical centers specializing in bone and soft tissue tumors formed this study group to develop clinical care guidelines. Of 196 cases with specimens and medical records collected from the 7 institutions, 88 surgically treated ones were analyzed regarding clinicopathological prognostic factors including CTNNB1 mutation status. Excluding R2 cases (n=3), 5-year local recurrence free survival (LRFS) was 52.9%. No case had received pre- or post-operative radiotherapy. Univariate analysis revealed that extremity location (P less then 0.001) and larger size (≧8cm, P=0.036) were significant adverse risk factors for LRFS. Multivariate analysis demonstrated that extremity location (P less then 0.001) was a significantly adverse factor in addition to recurrent tumor (P=0.041), S45F mutation (P=0.028), and R1 surgical margin (P=0.039). Pre-operative drug treatment including NSAIDs did not reduce the incidence of local recurrence (P=0.199). This is the first study to analyze the factors correlating with outcomes of surgical treatment including CTNNB1 mutation status in a relatively large number of cases from an Asian country.   • Mass spectrometry-based DNA adductomics is an emerging approach for the human biomonitoring of hazardous chemicals. A mass spectral database of DNA adducts will be created for the scientific community to investigate the associations between chemical exposures, DNA damage, and disease risk.Untreated sewer overflows can contaminate receiving waters with micropollutants. Although concentrations of discharged micropollutants can be ecotoxicologically relevant, only limited data is available to assess occurrence and spatial differences among sewer overflow catchments. Therefore, we present an innovative type of data obtained with passive samplers at 20 combined sewer overflow sites (2-7 events per site; 95 events in total). The data sheds light on concentration ranges for 13 representative polar organic micropollutants and shows that micropollutants in both municipal wastewater and stormwater can be relevant sources of contaminants. We identify indicator micropollutants for further studies benzotriazole (80% interquantile of time-weighted average concentration 250-4,800 ng/L), carbamazepine (33-910 ng/L), diclofenac (78-1,000 ng/L), carbendazim (21-900 ng/L), diazinon (2.1-53 ng/L), diuron (22-1,100 ng/L), mecoprop (198-5,300 ng/L), metolachlor (6-230 ng/L), and terbutryn (29-810 ng/L). These concentration estimates are assumed to be on the safe side for comparison with environmental quality standards (EQS). A majority of sewer overflow sites (13 of 20) show discharge concentrations above acute EQS for at least one micropollutant and thus would have to rely on dilution by receiving waters to not exceed any EQS. The intersite variability among sewer overflows exceed the within-site variability. Hence, future monitoring studies should cover more sewer overflow sites. No correlation could be found with event durations, specific storage volume or land use data, thus showing the complexity of micropollutant occurrence and indicating that other factors led to the observed high spatial variability. Treatment of multiple myeloma (MM) cells, a disease of plasma cells originating in the bone marrow, with 89Zr-TiO2-Tf generated cytotoxic ROS to induce cancer cell killing via the apoptosis pathway. Positron emission tomography/X-ray computed tomography (PET/CT) imaging and tissue biodistribution studies revealed that in vivo administration of 89Zr-TiO2-Tf in **** leveraged the osteotropic effect of 89Zr to selectively localize about 70% of the injected radioactivity in mouse bone tissue. Recent advancements in the field make biomimetic spinning approaches an attractive way forward since they allow the spider silk proteins to assemble into the secondary, tertiary, and quaternary structures that are characteristic of the native silk fiber. Straining flow spinning (SFS) is a newly developed and versatile method that allows production under a wide range of processing conditions. Here, we use a recombinant spider silk protein that shows unprecedented water solubility and that is capable of native-like assembly, and we spin it into fibers by the SFS technique. We show that fibers may be spun using different hydrodynamical and chemical conditions and conclude that these spinning conditions affect fiber mechanics. In particular, it was found that the addition of acetonitrile and polyethylene glycol to the collection bath results in fibers with increased β-sheet content and improved mechanical properties.

  • By testing a variety of filter settings and comparing the obtained results with publicly available datasets, we observe that a coverage filter setting of depth (DP) 3 and genotype quality (GQ) 20 is sufficient for high quality single nucleotide variants (SNVs) calling in an analysis combining GATK and VSQR and that Ti/Tv values are a consistent and useful indicator for data quality assessment for all tested NGS platforms. Furthermore, we report a reduction in Ti/Tv in IR-induced mutations in primary human gingiva fibroblasts (HGFs), which points to an elevated proportion of transversions among IR-induced SNVs and thus might imply that mismatch repair (MMR) plays a role in the cellular damage response to IR-induced DNA lesions.Ionizing radiation exposure produces direct or indirect biological effects on genomic DNA. The latter are ionizing radiation mediated by induction of free radicals and oxygen species (ROS). The study was conducted to evaluate the dose-effect/time-effect of antioxidant treatments in reducing the induction of double-strand breaks in human blood lymphocytes. Human peripheral blood samples of 2 mL each from healthy donors were irradiated with 10 mGy after pre-incubation with different antioxidants (β-carotene, vitamin E, vitamin C, N-acetyl L-cysteine). In order to assess their efficiency as prophylactic therapy for irradiation, various concentrations and combinations of antioxidants, as well as different incubation times, have been evaluated. To assess double-strand breaks induced by ionizing radiation, the phosphorylated histone γ-H2AX has been used. A significant reduction (p less then 0.001) in double-strand breaks studied with a γ-H2AX assay was observed with N-acetyl L-cysteine with a 1-h incubation time, followed by vitamin C, vitamin E, and β-carotene. The use of antioxidants, especially N-acetyl L-cysteine before irradiation, significantly decreased the occurrence of double-strand breaks, demonstrating the potential radiological protection for exposure to ionizing radiation.The strategy toward personalized medicine in radiation oncology, nuclear medicine, and diagnostic and interventional radiology demands a specific set of assays for individualized estimation of radiation load for safety concerns and prognosis of normal tissue reactions caused by ionizing radiation. Blood was drawn from healthy human volunteers and exposed to Co gamma rays at several dose rates (i.e., 1.0, 0.6, and 0.1 Gy min). After radiation, the blood was placed for 2 h in a 37 °C incubator for repair. Blood was then cultured in complete media to which a mitogen (i.e., phytoghemagglutinin, concentration 4%) was added for 48 h. Colcemid was added to the culture at a final concentration of 0.2 μg mL after 24 h for the purpose of arresting first-division metaphase mitotics. Cells were harvested at the end of 48 h. Samples were processed using an automated metaphase harvester and automated microscope metaphase finder equipped with a suite of software including a specialized automated dicentric scoring application. The data obtained were used to create dose-response tables of dicentric yields. Study groups included 300 radiation workers performing construction work on the New Safe Confinement (Arch) upon the Chernobyl "Shelter" [external dose, 26.1 ± 18.1 mSv; age, 43.1 ± 10.3 y overall and 48.7 ± 5.9 y for 69 control persons]. Methods included gene expression using RT-PCR, flow cytometry of lymphocyte antigens, gamma-H2AX, Cyclin D1 expression, and relative telomere length using flow-FISH. A statistically significant upregulation of VEGFA BAX, DDB2, NFKB1 was shown at doses below 35 mSv. In workers aged under 40 y with doses higher than 35 mSv, an upregulation of 16 genes was revealed-VEGFA, TERF2, TERF1, BIRC5, BAX, TP53, DDB2, CDKN1B, CDKN2A, NFKB2, MAPK14, TGFBR1, MKNK2, CDKN1A, NFKB1, TP53I3; and four genes were downregulated-MADD, FASL, CSF2, and TERT. In workers older than 40 y, 8 genes were upregulated and 12 were downregulated. All groups showed an increased and dose-dependent gamma-H2AX expression. In order to assess their efficiency as prophylactic therapy for irradiation, various concentrations and combinations of antioxidants, as well as different incubation times, have been evaluated. To assess double-strand breaks induced by ionizing radiation, the phosphorylated histone γ-H2AX has been used. A significant reduction (p less then 0.001) in double-strand breaks studied with a γ-H2AX assay was observed with N-acetyl L-cysteine with a 1-h incubation time, followed by vitamin C, vitamin E, and β-carotene. The use of antioxidants, especially N-acetyl L-cysteine before irradiation, significantly decreased the occurrence of double-strand breaks, demonstrating the potential radiological protection for exposure to ionizing radiation.The strategy toward personalized medicine in radiation oncology, nuclear medicine, and diagnostic and interventional radiology demands a specific set of assays for individualized estimation of radiation load for safety concerns and prognosis of normal tissue reactions caused by ionizing radiation. Apparently, it seems reasonable to use validated radiation dosimetric biomarkers for these purposes. However, a number of gaps in knowledge and methodological limitations still have to be resolved until dosimetric biomarkers will start to play a valuable role in clinical practice beyond radiation protection and radiation medicine. An extensive international multicenter research is necessary to improve the methodology of clinical applications of biodosimetry. That became a rationale for launching the IAEA Coordinated Research Project E35010 MEDBIODOSE "Applications of Biological Dosimetry Methods in Radiation Oncology, Nuclear Medicine, and Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology." At the 2 Coordination Meeting on MErelevant international standards, guidelines on good laboratory practice, and the IAEA EPR-Biodosimetry manual.The objective of this study was to establish radiation dose-response calibration curves using automated dicentric scoring to support rapid and accurate cytogenetic triage dose-assessment. Blood was drawn from healthy human volunteers and exposed to Co gamma rays at several dose rates (i.e., 1.0, 0.6, and 0.1 Gy min). After radiation, the blood was placed for 2 h in a 37 °C incubator for repair. Blood was then cultured in complete media to which a mitogen (i.e., phytoghemagglutinin, concentration 4%) was added for 48 h. Colcemid was added to the culture at a final concentration of 0.2 μg mL after 24 h for the purpose of arresting first-division metaphase mitotics. Cells were harvested at the end of 48 h. Samples were processed using an automated metaphase harvester and automated microscope metaphase finder equipped with a suite of software including a specialized automated dicentric scoring application. The data obtained were used to create dose-response tables of dicentric yields. The null hypothesis that the data is Poisson-distributed could not be rejected at the significance level of α = 0.05 using results from a Shiny R Studio application (goodness-of-fit Poisson). Calibration curves based on linear-quadratic fits for Co gamma rays at the three different dose rates were generated using these data. The calibration curves were used to detect blind test cases. In conclusion, using the automated harvester and automated microscope metaphase finder with associated automated dicentric scoring software demonstrates high-throughput with suitable accuracy for triage radiation dose assessment.Low-dose radiation effects were studied in Ukrainian personnel of the Chernobyl exclusion zone. The aim of this study was to determine the influence of borderline exposure to annual professional limits and age on expression of molecular markers. Study groups included 300 radiation workers performing construction work on the New Safe Confinement (Arch) upon the Chernobyl "Shelter" [external dose, 26.1 ± 18.1 mSv; age, 43.1 ± 10.3 y overall and 48.7 ± 5.9 y for 69 control persons]. Methods included gene expression using RT-PCR, flow cytometry of lymphocyte antigens, gamma-H2AX, Cyclin D1 expression, and relative telomere length using flow-FISH. A statistically significant upregulation of VEGFA BAX, DDB2, NFKB1 was shown at doses below 35 mSv. In workers aged under 40 y with doses higher than 35 mSv, an upregulation of 16 genes was revealed-VEGFA, TERF2, TERF1, BIRC5, BAX, TP53, DDB2, CDKN1B, CDKN2A, NFKB2, MAPK14, TGFBR1, MKNK2, CDKN1A, NFKB1, TP53I3; and four genes were downregulated-MADD, FASL, CSF2, and TERT. In workers older than 40 y, 8 genes were upregulated and 12 were downregulated. All groups showed an increased and dose-dependent gamma-H2AX expression.   • The polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and neem extract were grafted onto coupled oxides (3ZT-CO) via reflux process to stabilize the particles to form 3ZT-CO/PVA and 3ZT-CO/Neem. These were then incorporated into LLDPE by melt blending process to give LLDPE/3ZT-CO/PVA and LLDPE/3ZT-CO/Neem composites. The Neem and PVA stabilized particles showed high zeta potential and dispersed homogeneously in water. The stabilization process altered the shape of the particles due to plane growth along the (002) polar direction. The stabilizers acted as capping agents and initiated the one-dimensional growth. The alkyl chain groups from PVA increased the polarity of the LLDPE/3ZT-CO/PVA and played a dominant role in the water adsorption process to activate the photocatalytic activity. This was further enhanced by the homogeneous distribution of the particles and low degree of crystallinity (20.87%) of the LLDPE composites. LLDPE/3ZT-CO/PVA exhibited the highest photodegradation (93.95%), which was better than the non-stabilized particles. Therefore, the photocatalytic activity of a polymer composite can be enhanced by grafting PVA and neem onto couple oxides. The LLDPE/3ZT-CO/PVA composite was further used to treat textile effluent. The results showed the composite was able to remove dye color by 93.95% and to reduce biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) and chemical oxygen demand (COD) by 99.99%.Under normal conditions, the cornea, being the transparent "windscreen" of the eye, is free of both blood and lymphatic vessels. However, various diseases of the eye, like infections, can interfere with the balance between promoting and inhibiting factors, which leads to ingrowth of blood and lymphatic vessels. The newly formed lymphatic vessels increase the risk of graft rejection after subsequent corneal transplantation. Corneal transplantation is one of the most commonly performed transplantations worldwide, with more than 40,000 surgeries per year in Europe. To date, various anti-hem- and anti-lymphangiogenic treatment strategies have been developed specifically for the corneal vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) pathway. Currently, however, no treatment strategies are clinically available to specifically modulate lymphangiogenesis. In this review, we will give an overview about endogenous regulators of hem- and lymphangiogenesis and discuss potential new strategies for targeting pathological lymphangiogenesis. Furthermore, we will review recently identified modulators and demonstrate that the cornea is a suitable model for the identification of novel endogenous modulators of lymphangiogenesis. The identification of novel modulators of lymphangiogenesis and a better understanding of the signaling pathways involved will contribute to the development of new therapeutic targets for the treatment of pathological lymphangiogenesis. This, in turn, will improve graft rejection, not only for the cornea.Engine prognostics are critical to improve safety, reliability, and operational efficiency of an aircraft. With the development in sensor technology, multiple sensors are embedded or deployed to monitor the health condition of the aircraft engine. Thus, the challenge of engine prognostics lies in how to model and predict future health by appropriate utilization of these sensor information. In this paper, a prognostic approach is developed based on informative sensor selection and adaptive degradation modeling with functional data analysis. The presented approach selects sensors based on metrics and constructs health index to characterize engine degradation by fusing the selected informative sensors. Next, the engine degradation is adaptively modeled with the functional principal component analysis (FPCA) method and future health is prognosticated using the Bayesian inference. The prognostic approach is applied to run-to-failure data sets of C-MAPSS test-bed developed by NASA. Results show that the proposed method can effectively select the informative sensors and accurately predict the complex degradation of the aircraft engine.The objective of this paper was to evaluate the relationship between physical exercise and physical fitness with cognitive and psychosocial functioning in a group of adolescents. 167 teenagers between 14 and 15 years old (M = 14.53; SD = 0.50) from the city of Malaga (Spain) participated in the study. This research used a comparative and predictive type of design. The Tanita® Body Composition Monitor **-601, some Eurofit battery tests, the D2 Attention Test, the WISC-IV Scale Symbols and Keys tests, the Form 5 Self-Concept Questionnaire (AF5), the General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSE) and the General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-28) were used to evaluate the study variables. The results found in this research pointed to a positive relationship between physical exercise and physical fitness with cognitive and psychosocial functioning in the adolescents analyzed. For example, adolescents who practiced more physical exercise had better scores on variables such as selective attention (p less then 0.001; η2 = 0.10), processing speed (p less then 0.001; η2 = 0.09) or general self-efficacy (p less then 0.001; η2 = 0.15). In addition, cardiorespiratory fitness was the best predictor of test scores to assess cognitive ability and psychosocial variables. The results revealed a decrease in compressive strength from 48.6 MPa for 0% CB content bricks to 30.8 MPa for 1% CB content bricks, and a decrease in dry density with the increase in CB content, from 2114 kg/m3 for the control bricks to 1983 kg/m3 and 1969 kg/m3 for 1% and 2% CB content bricks. The highest value of water absorption appeared for 2% CB content bricks, which reached an absorption rate of 13.1% compared to 9% for the control bricks. The energy required during the firing process was calculated with a saving of up to 10.

  • OBJECTIVE To investigate potential risk factors for Parkinson`s disease (PD) in elderly individuals rural living in Turkey. METHODS In total, 72 consecutive elderly Parkinson disease patients referred to the Neurology Clinic, Igdir State Hospital, Igdir, Turkey were included in the study. A structured questionnaire comprising questions on history of pastoral living, pit water consumption, and exposure to ionizing radiation and pesticides was administered to the patients. The patients were divided into 2 groups on the basis of water consumption well water consumption group and city network consumption group. RESULTS Of 72 patients with PD, 49 (68.1%) exposed to well water while 23 (31.9%) did not exposed to well water. The average duration of well water consumption was 20 (standard deviation 6) years (p less than 0.01) in group 1. Nitrate, sulfate and heavy metal levels were significantly higher in well water than in city network water (p less than 0.05). CONCLUSION Consumption of well water containing heavy metals and nitrates in early life may contribute to the etiology of Parkinson disease in elderly individuals in Igdir province of Turkey.OBJECTIVE To assess knowledge about secondary stroke and adherence to stroke discharge medication and prevention strategies among stroke survivors, and to identify possible causes of poor adherence. METHODS A cross-sectional study that involved 82 stroke survivors who were treated at Prince Mohammed Bin Abdulaziz Hospital (PMAH) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from July 2015 to August 2018. Patient adherence level (PAL) was assessed using a tool developed by Sidorkiewicz et al (2016). RESULTS Of the 82 participants, 63.4% believed that the risk of secondary stroke is higher and 70.7% believed it would results in worse outcome, compared to primary stroke. Out of a list of 7 preventive strategies, treating risk factors (80.5%), keeping a healthy diet (65.9%) and regular exercise (63.4%) were the most frequently identified. Forgetful-ness (51.2%), polypharmacy (18.3%) and patient-perceived improvement (17.1%) were the most frequently reported causes for nonadherence. At the patients` level, PAL was adequate among 46.8%, and was higher among females (60.0% versus 35.7%, p=0.033) and married (52.2% versus 0.0%, p=0.006) ones, and lower among smokers (22.2% versus 54.2%, p=0.029), compared to their counterparts. No correlation of adherence level with knowledge was observed. Regression showed approximation to statistical significance for smoking (OR=4.28 [0.99, 18.41], p=0.051) as a predictor for inadequate adherence. CONCLUSION Stroke survivors have suboptimal adherence to discharge prescriptions and preventive strategies, despite a relatively sound knowledge, which exposes them to high risk of secondary stroke. It is part of the healthcare providers` role to identify eventual barriers to adherence and to implement efficacious strategies to alleviate such barriers and improve patients` adherence.OBJECTIVE To estimate reference data for the commonly performed sensory nerve conduction studies (NCS) using a cohort of healthy subjects from Saudi Arabia. METHODS This is a cross-sectional study conducted between May 2015, and June 2019. Sensory nerve action potential (SNAP) amplitude, conduction velocity (CV), and peak latency (PL) were recorded. Associations between these parameters and the covariates (age, sex, height, weight, and body mass index) were tested with Pearson correlations. Reference data were then derived using the lowest percentile that could be reliably determined for SNAP amplitude and CV. Reference data were derived using the highest percentile for PL. RESULTS Upper and lower limb sensory NCS were performed in 127 and 137 participants, respectively. Age was the only covariate that required adjustment for estimation of SNAP amplitude. Therefore, a prediction model was generated for each nerve. Percentile estimation for PL and CV did not require adjustment for any of the covariates. Hence, it was derived for all the subjects pooled together. CONCLUSION The sensory NCS reference data were comparable to the data from other countries. However, minimal differences were observed. Further studies are required with a focus on the older age group.OBJECTIVE To improve the understanding of the association between electrocardiographic (ECG) abnormalities and clinical outcomes of patients with all types of intracranial hemorrhage (ICH). METHODS A retrospective cohort study was conducted in a tertiary healthcare hospital on patients with ICH without cardiac disease or renal disease requiring dialysis. Demographic and clinical data were collected from hospital records. ECG record were obtained within 24 hours of presentation and prior to treatment. Records were interpreted for this study by a cardiologist blinded to other data. RESULTS Assessment of 291 patients (228 adults and 63 children) showed that subdural hemorrhage was the most common type of ICH (31.6%) followed by intraparenchymal hemorrhage (23.0%). ECG records were available for 98 patients. ECG abnormalities were most commonly nonspecific ST-segment changes (32.6%). In adults, history of neurological disease was associated with atrioventricular block (p=.004) and QTc prolongation (p=.041). Pediatric patients exhibited associations between ST-segment changes (p=.045) and sinus tachycardia (p=.027) and type of ICH. However, ECG changes were not statistically associated with clinical outcomes in adults or children. CONCLUSION Significant ECG changes frequently occurred in patients with all types of ICH but did not consistently predict the outcome in this study. Close observation of patients is still recommended to detect ECG changes that could affect the treatment.OBJECTIVE To investigate the importance of the side of clinical findings in predicting the prognosis in multiple sclerosis (MS) patients. In the right-sided clinical findings, the value of PI and MSSS were higher than the others between in remission and attack periods (p=0.002, p=0.045 respectively). At last attack, we found statically differences in EDSS, MSSS values between remission and attack periods in only right-sided clinical findings (p=0.042, p=0.027 respectively). RESULTS Upper and lower limb sensory NCS were performed in 127 and 137 participants, respectively. Age was the only covariate that required adjustment for estimation of SNAP amplitude. Therefore, a prediction model was generated for each nerve. Percentile estimation for PL and CV did not require adjustment for any of the covariates. Hence, it was derived for all the subjects pooled together. CONCLUSION The sensory NCS reference data were comparable to the data from other countries. However, minimal differences were observed. Further studies are required with a focus on the older age group.OBJECTIVE To improve the understanding of the association between electrocardiographic (ECG) abnormalities and clinical outcomes of patients with all types of intracranial hemorrhage (ICH). METHODS A retrospective cohort study was conducted in a tertiary healthcare hospital on patients with ICH without cardiac disease or renal disease requiring dialysis. Demographic and clinical data were collected from hospital records. ECG record were obtained within 24 hours of presentation and prior to treatment. Records were interpreted for this study by a cardiologist blinded to other data. RESULTS Assessment of 291 patients (228 adults and 63 children) showed that subdural hemorrhage was the most common type of ICH (31.6%) followed by intraparenchymal hemorrhage (23.0%). ECG records were available for 98 patients. ECG abnormalities were most commonly nonspecific ST-segment changes (32.6%). In adults, history of neurological disease was associated with atrioventricular block (p=.004) and QTc prolongation (p=.041). Pediatric patients exhibited associations between ST-segment changes (p=.045) and sinus tachycardia (p=.027) and type of ICH. However, ECG changes were not statistically associated with clinical outcomes in adults or children. CONCLUSION Significant ECG changes frequently occurred in patients with all types of ICH but did not consistently predict the outcome in this study. Close observation of patients is still recommended to detect ECG changes that could affect the treatment.OBJECTIVE To investigate the importance of the side of clinical findings in predicting the prognosis in multiple sclerosis (MS) patients. At last attack, we found statically differences in EDSS, MSSS values between remission and attack periods in only right-sided clinical findings (p=0.042, p=0.027 respectively).   • As for hydrochar with more O-containing functional groups than biochar, the dominated sorption mechanism would be surface complexation, due to higher sorption capacity of Aged-HC with richer O-containing functional groups. In binary-metal system, the competitive sorption of Cd(II) and Cu(II) on biochar was observed obviously but that on hydrochar was limited. Ageing could increase the sorption capacity of Cd(II) in binary-metal system, resulting in alleviating competitive adsorption. The total sorption amount of Cd(II) and Cu(II) by biochar was markedly greater than that of hydrochar before or after ageing, suggesting that biochar can be still more capable than hydrochar for handling Cd(II) and Cu(II) in single-metal or binary-metal. These findings suggest us to consider the long-term effect on immobilization of co-existing heavy metals and alleviating competitive adsorption of carbonized materials as alternative amendment for contaminated sites. Chinese scallions (Allium fistulosum), which are characterized by their high content of the antioxidant allicin, were the chosen plants for this study. Spectroscopic and microscopic techniques were used to evaluate the nutrient element, allicin content, and enzyme antioxidant properties of scallion plants. Plants were harvested after growing for 80 days at greenhouse conditions in soil amended with CuO particles [nano (nCuO) and bulk (bCuO)] and CuSO4 at 75-600 mg/kg]. Two-photon microscopy images demonstrated the particulate Cu uptake in nCuO and bCuO treated roots. In plants exposed to 150 mg/kg of the Cu-based compounds, root Cu content was higher in plants treated with nCuO compared with bCuO, CuSO4, and control (p ≤ 0.05). At 150 mg/kg, nCuO increased root Ca (86%), root Fe (71%), bulb Ca (74%), and bulb Mg (108%) content, compared with control (p ≤ 0.05). At the same concentration, bCuO reduced root Ca (67%) and root Mg (33%), compared with control (p ≤ 0.05). At all concentrations, nCuO and CuSO4 increased leaf allicin (56-187% and 42-90%, respectively), compared with control (p ≤ 0.05). The antioxidant enzymes were differentially affected by the Cu-based treatments. Overall, the data showed that nCuO enhances nutrient and allicin contents in scallion, which suggests they might be used as a nanofertilizer for onion production. Environmental pollution and scarcity of natural resources lead to an increased interest in developing more sustainable materials. For example, the traditional construction industry, which is largely based on the extraction of fossil fuels and raw materials, is called into question. A solution can be found in biologically augmented materials that are made by growing mycelium-forming fungal microorganisms on natural fibres rich in cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin. In this way, organic waste streams, such as agricultural waste, are valorised while creating a material that is biodegradable at the end of its life cycle - a process that fits in the spirit of circular economy. Mycelium-based materials have properties that are promising for a wide range of applications, including the use as construction materials. Despite this promise, the applicability and the practicality of these materials are largely unexplored and moreover, individual studies use a wide range of different experimental approaches and non-standardized procedures. In this review, we critically evaluate existing data on the composition of mycelium-based materials and process variables with the aim of providing a comprehensive framework of the production process. The framework illustrates the many input factors during the production that have an impact on the final characteristics of the material, and the unique potential to deploy more tuneable levels in the fabrications process that can serve to prototype a diversity of new unprecedented applications. V.Irrigated dryland agroecosystems could become more sustainable if crop and soil management enhanced soil organic carbon (SOC). We hypothesized that combining high inputs from cover crops with no-tillage will increase long-term SOC stocks. Caatinga shrublands had been cleared in 1972 for arable crops and palm plantations before implementing field experiments on Mango and Melon systems (established in 2009 and 2012, respectively). Each of the two experiments were managed with no-till (NT) or conventional till (CT), and three types of cover cropping, either a plant mixture of 75% (PM1) or 25% (PM2) legumes, or spontaneous vegetation (SV). The RothC model was used with a daily timestep to simulate the soil moisture dynamics and C turnover for this dry climate. Carbon inputs were between 2.62 and 5.82 Mg C ha-1 year-1 and increased the depleted SOC stocks by 0.08 to 0.56 Mg C ha-1 year-1. Scenarios of continuous biomass inputs of ca. 5 Mg C ha-1 year-1 for 60 years are likely to increase SOC stocks in the mango NT beyond the original Caatinga SOC by between 19.2 and 20.5 Mg C ha-1. Under CT similar inputs would increase SOC stocks only marginally above depletion (2.75 to 2.47 Mg C ha-1). Under melon, annual carbon inputs are slightly greater (up to 5.5 Mg C ha-1 year-1) and SOC stocks would increase on average by another 8% to 22.3 to 20.6 Mg C ha-1 under NT and by 8 Mg C ha-1 under CT. These long-term simulations show that combining NT with high quality cover crops (PM1, PM2) would exceed SOC stocks of the initial Caatinga within 20 and 25 years under irrigated melon and mango cultivation, respectively. These results present a solution to reverse prior loss of SOC by replacing CT dryland agriculture with irrigated NT plus high input cover crops agroecosystems.

OBJECTIVES The objective of this study was to establish whether corpus callosum volumes (CCV) and whole brain volumes (WBV) are correlated and to determine the impact of whole-brain lowvs high-dose RT on brain parenchymal volume loss as assessed using each technique. MATERIAL AND METHODS Of the 30 identified children (6-12 years) with newly diagnosed posterior fossa tumors treated with cranial RT, including focal and whole-brain RT, suitable imaging was obtained for 23. Radiotherapy regimens were the following no whole-brain RT (Group 1, n = 7), low-dose whole-brain RT (1.2% reduction in WBV. Five of 7 patients with CCV loss were not picked up by WBV measurements. Similarly, 3 of 5 patients with WBV loss were not picked up by CCV measurements. CONCLUSIONS The CCV and the WBV are unrelated and may indicate different brain parenchymal losses following RT. MATERIAL AND METHODS This prospective, observational study conducted in 4 European countries enrolled 911 adult patients receiving a single or multiple implant on the day of inclusion. Any medication prescribed during the preor postoperative periods was documented, particularly antibiotics, antiseptic mouthwashes and topical antiseptic gels. At a follow-up visit, the presence of plaque was documented on teeth adjacent to the implant and its extent determined using the Silness-Löe index. RESULTS Oral antibiotics were prescribed prior to surgery in 53.8% of the patients. Antiseptic mouthwashes were prescribed to patients (49.6-65.7%) according to country. Following dental implant placement, 84.1-94.7% of patients were prescribed oral antibiotics, 45.6-86.5% of patients were prescribed antiseptic mouthwash and 72.8-100% of patients were prescribed an antiseptic gel. At the follow-up visit, plaque was observed in 45.4% of the patients. The mean Silness-Löe plaque index was 0.7 or 0.8, indicating a low level of plaque accumulation. The Löe and Silness gingival index was 0.6 or 0.7, which is consistent with a low level of gingival inflammation. CONCLUSION Use of antibiotics preand post-surgery is frequent in implant surgery, despite it being discouraged in practice guidelines. Dose-addition analyses were used to determine the nature of the drug-drug interaction for each mixture. MDPV and caffeine dose-dependently reinstated responding and were equally effective, regardless of reinforcement history. Most fixed ratio mixtures of MDPV + caffeine exhibited supra-additive interactions, reinstating responding to levels greater than was observed with caffeine and/or MDPV alone. Drug-associated stimuli also played a key role in reinstating responding, especially for caffeine. Together, these results demonstrate that the composition of drug mixtures can impact relapse-related effects of drug mixtures, and "bath salts" mixtures (MDPV + caffeine) may be more effective at promoting relapse-related behaviors than the constituents alone.
