Annelids constitute a diverse phylum with more than 19000 species, exhibiting greatly varying morphologies and lifestyles ranging from sessile detritivores to fast swimming active predators. The lifestyle of an animal is closely linked to its sensory systems not least the visual equipment. Interestingly, many errant annelid species from different families such as the scale worms, Polynoidae, share the same two pairs of eyes on their prostomium. These eyes are typically 100-200 µm in diameter and structurally similar judged from the gross morphology. The polynoids, Harmothoe imbricata and Lepidonotus squamatus from the North Atlantic are both benthic predators preying on small invertebrates but only H. imbricata can produce bioluminescence in their scales. Here we have examined their eye morphology, photoreceptor physiology, and light guided behaviour in order to assess their visual capacity and visual ecology. Whereas the structure and physiology of the two pairs of eyes are remarkably similar within species, the only difference being the gaze direction, the photoreceptor physiology differs between the two species. Both species express a single opsin in their eyes but in H. imbricata the peak sensitivity is green shifted and the temporal resolution is lower, suggesting that the eyes of H. imbricata are adapted to detect their own bioluminescence. The behavioural experiments showed that both species are strictly night active but yielded no support to the hypothesis that H. imbricata are repelled by their own bioluminescence.
With growing worldwide endoscopy experience, endonasal and supraorbital removal of tuberculum sellae meningiomas (TSM) has increased.
To describe anatomic factors for guiding approach selection and outcomes.
Retrospective analysis of patients undergoing endonasal or supraorbital TSM resection approach criteria, clinical outcomes, acute magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) fluid-attenuated inversion-recovery (FLAIR)/T2 changes.
From 2008 to 2020, 33 patients (mean age 55±11 yr) were identified 20 (61%) had endonasal and 13 (39%) supraorbital removal. Comparing endonasal and supraorbital approaches, mean tumor volume (3.7±3.5 cm3 vs 7.7±8.5 cm3, P=.07); percent tumor above planum (42% vs 65%, P=.02), and lateral tumor beyond supraclinoid internal carotid arteries (1.4±2.0 mm vs 4.0±3.2 mm, P=.006) were greater for supraorbital route. Sellar depth was greater for endonasal route tumors (12.2±2.6 mm vs 9.3±2.4 mm, P=.003). Endoscopy, used in 10/13(77%) supraorbital cases, was helpful in additional tumor removal. Greater tumor extension below planum and medial optic canal invasion favor endonasal route, while larger size and lateral extension favor supraorbital route. Given high frequency of TSM growth into optic canals and better access for medial optic canal tumor removal, endonasal route may be preferred for most TSMs.
Whether consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs) or artificially sweetened beverages (ASBs) is associated with the risk of breast cancer is of public health interest.
We sought to evaluate associations between consumption of SSBs and ASBs and risks of total and subtype-specific breast cancer.
We followed 82,713 women from the Nurses' Health Study (1980 to 2016) and 93,085 women from the Nurses' Health Study II (1991 to 2017). https://www.selleckchem.com/products/XL880(GSK1363089,EXEL-2880).html Cumulatively averaged intakes of SSBs and ASBs from FFQs were tested for associations with incident breast cancer cases and subtypes using Cox regression models. Consumption of SSBs or ASBs was not associated with total breast cancer risk pooled HRs comparing extreme categories (≥1/day compared with <1/month)were 1.03 (95% CI, 0.95-1.12) and 0.96 (95% CI, 0.91-1.02), respectiv. This finding could have occurred by chance and needs confirmation. Our findings also suggest no substantial increase in the risk of breast cancer with consumption of ASBs.
Operative treatment of adult spinal deformity (ASD) can be very challenging with high complication rates. It is well established that patients benefit from such treatment; however, the surgical outcomes for patients with severe sagittal deformity have not been reported.
To report the outcomes of patients undergoing surgical correction for severe sagittal deformity.
Retrospective review of a prospective, multicenter ASD database. Inclusion criteria operative patients age≥18, sagittal vertical axis (SVA)≥15 cm, mismatch between pelvic incidence and lumbar lordosis (PI-LL)≥30°, and/or lumbar kyphosis≥5° with minimum 2 yr follow-up. Health-related quality of life (HRQOL) scores including minimal clinically important difference (MCID)/substantial clinical benefit (SCB), sagittal and coronal radiographic values, demographic, frailty, surgical, and complication data were collected. Comparisons between 2 yr postoperative and baseline HRQOL/radiographic data were made. P<.05 was significant.

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) are common conditions among military personnel that frequently co-occur. This study investigated relationships between self-reported blast exposure, mTBI history, and current post-traumatic stress (PTS) symptoms in a population of active duty service members (n = 202) from the Intensive Outpatient Program at the National Intrepid Center of Excellence.
Participants were divided into four mTBI groups (0, 1, 2, and 3+) and four blast exposure groups (0-10, 11-100, 101-1,000, and 1,000+). Self-reported lifetime mTBI and blast history were obtained via the Ohio State University TBI Identification Method. PTSS severity was obtained via the PTSD Checklist-Civilian version (PCL-C). Several secondary measures of depression, anxiety, chronic mTBI symptoms, and sleep were also assessed.
The total PCL-C scores differed significantly between mTBI groups, with significant differences detected between the 0/1 mTBI groups and the 3+ mTBI groups.

We fully describe our process which includes the use of high-throughput metabolomic analysis to identify metabolites significantly related to cardiac arrest, and how we used LBD to gain insights into how these metabolites relate to cardiac arrest. These insights lead to our proposal (for the first time) of LCAT as a druggable target; the effects of which are supported by in vivo studies which were brought forth by this work. Metabolites are the end product of many biochemical pathways within the human body. Observed changes in metabolite levels are indicative of changes in these pathways, and provide valuable insights toward the cause, progression, and treatment of diseases. Following cardiac arrest, we observed changes in metabolite levels pre- and post-resuscitation. We used LBD to help discover diseases implicitly linked via these metabolites of interest. Results of LBD indicated a strong link between Fish Eye disease and cardiac arrest. Since fish eye disease is characterized by an LCAT deficiency, it began an investigation into the effects of LCAT and cardiac arrest survival. In the investigation, we found that decreased LCAT activity may increase cardiac arrest survival rates by increasing ω-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid availability in circulation. We verified the effects of ω-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids on increasing survival rate following cardiac arrest via in vivo with rat models.Magneto-thermoelectric transport provides an understanding of coupled electron-hole-phonon current in topological materials and has applications in energy conversion and cooling. In this review, we attempt to summarize the recent literature in the field and discuss the major mechanisms involved in vascular senescence. We also underline key molecular aspects of aging-associated vascular dysfunction in the attempt to highlight potential innovative therapeutic targets to delay the onset of age-related diseases.
This study aimed to evaluate the validity and reliability of the Persian version of Health of the Nation Outcome Scales for Elderly People (HoNOS65+) in Iran's elderly population.
The scale English version translated to Persian using a forward and backward translation method. The scale was filled for two elderly population groups (inpatient and outpatients) (N=300). Simultaneously with HoNOS+65, the Clinical Global Impressions Scale (CGI) was completed. Two separate therapists were filled HoNOS+65 for thirty-one patients (inter-rater reliability test). In general, content validity, consistency, confirmatory factor analyses (CFA), convergent validity, and criterion validity were examined.
Using exploratory factor analysis, three factors were extracted. Inter-rater reliability in some items has a slight agreement. Content validity ratio (0.75) and index (0.90) were calculated for each item. Cronbach's alpha total score was 0.82. According to the largest modification indices, CFA showed satisfactory fit indices. The convergent validity between HoNOS +65 and CGI was (
=0/71, sig=0.000). Finally, the optimal cut-off point was achieved 13. Sensitivity and specificity for the HoNOS +65 were 88.89% and 81.16%, respectively, with the Youden index of 0.7005.

Anemia in the older age (e.g., >60years) is a major health problem in India and many parts of the world since it signifies an underlying disease and is associated with poor clinical outcome like increased morbidity and affects health-related quality of life. Since symptoms like fatigue or shortness of breath related to anemia could also be attributed to the aging process, anemia is often easily overlooked in the elderly.
Clinico-hematological patterns and morphological types of anemia in older age (e.g. >60 years) are manifold, hence this study was undertaken to determine them and to know more about associated disorders.
The present study was conducted on a sample size of 1257 patients who were 60years and above and clinically diagnosed as anemic. Routine haematological investigations including peripheral blood smear examination and complete hemogram were done. Special investigations like bone-marrow examination and iron studies were done whenever required.

Multiplex bead assays (MBAs) for serologic testing have become more prevalent in public health surveys, but few studies have assessed their test performance. As part of a trachoma study conducted in a rural part of Ethiopia in 2016, dried blood spots (DBS) were collected from a random sample of 393 children aged 0 to 9 years, with at least two separate 6-mm DBS collected on a filter card. Samples eluted from DBS were processed using an MBA on the Luminex platform for antibodies against 13 antigens of nine infectious organisms Chlamydia trachomatis, Vibrio cholera, enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli, Cryptosporidium parvum, Entamoeba histolytica, Camplyobacter jejuni, Salmonella typhimurium Group B, Salmonella enteritidis Group D, and Giardia lamblia. Two separate DBS from each child were processed. We, therefore, examined the frequency of embolic protection device use and its association with outcomes after carotid artery stent placement using a national quality improvement data base.
Patients undergoing carotid artery stent placement with or without embolic protection devices were identified in the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program data base. The primary outcome was the incidence of major adverse cardiovascular events (defined as death, stroke, or myocardial infarction/arrhythmia) within 30 days. Hydrophilic polymers and polytetrafluoroethylene liners, commonly used in the construction of endovascular devices, occasionally separate from devices with subsequent embolization. We determined the frequency of such materials in thrombus specimens retrieved by mechanical thrombectomy in patients with stroke.
We retrospectively reviewed H&E-stained thrombus sections for presence and types of foreign materials. We identified 4 types of foreign materials-Type I material was light green with refraction and had a homogeneous texture; type II material was light gray and/or dark gray, thin, and loose or attenuated in texture; type III material was light green with refraction, solitary in texture, irregular in shape, and was often associated with round or oval bubblelike particles and/or diffuse black particles; and type IV material had homogeneous texture and was light pink or red. In addition, polymer materials from different layers of used mechanical thrombectomy catheters were compared with the foreign materials found in thrombus specimens.
A total of 101 thrombi were evaluated. Foreign materials were found in 53 (52.5%) thrombus samples. The most common type was type I (92%), followed by type II (30%). The histopathologic features of the polymer materials from mechanical thrombectomy catheters were similar to the foreign materials found in thrombus specimens. The inner polytetrafluoroethylene liner and coating layer of catheters resembled type I and type II of the foreign materials, respectively.

Multiplex bead assays (MBAs) for serologic testing have become more prevalent in public health surveys, but few studies have assessed their test performance. As part of a trachoma study conducted in a rural part of Ethiopia in 2016, dried blood spots (DBS) were collected from a random sample of 393 children aged 0 to 9 years, with at least two separate 6-mm DBS collected on a filter card. Samples eluted from DBS were processed using an MBA on the Luminex platform for antibodies against 13 antigens of nine infectious organisms Chlamydia trachomatis, Vibrio cholera, enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli, Cryptosporidium parvum, Entamoeba histolytica, Camplyobacter jejuni, Salmonella typhimurium Group B, Salmonella enteritidis Group D, and Giardia lamblia. Two separate DBS from each child were processed. This retrospective case series study included pediatric LCH with CDI treated at Beijing Children's Hospital affiliated with Capital Medical University (11/2012-01/2018). After the first-line 2009-LCH regimen, patients with active disease/worse response, relapse, or no significant improvement in risk organs, pituitary, or lung were given the second-line therapy. Baseline characteristics, clinical response and adverse reactions were observed.
Twenty-six children with CDI and disappearance of hyperintensity in the posterior pituitary were included. They received "Regimen A" Ara-c + dexamethasone + vindesine (n = 7) or "Regimen B" Ara-c + dexamethasone + vindesine + 2-cdA (n = 19) as second-line therapy. There were 14 patients with CDI but without pituitary stalk thickening (PST) and 12 with CDI and PST. In patients with CDI alone, 4/4 patients receiving Regimen A and 3/10 receiving Regimen B improved. All patients with CDI and PST showed improvement for PST. The reappearance of hyperintensity at the posterior pituitary was observed in 10 patients with CDI. All 26 children were alive after a median follow-up of 40.5months. There were no chemotherapy-related deaths.

This study examined the durability of PEERS® for Preschoolers, a parent-mediated social skills training program for preschool-aged children with ASD and other social challenges. Twenty-nine parents reported on child and family outcomes 1-5 years following treatment. Results demonstrated maintenance of treatment gains on measures of ASD-related social impairments including social communication, social responsiveness, social motivation, and peer engagement. Post-treatment improvements in problem behaviors and parenting stress were not maintained at long-term follow-up. Implications of these results are discussed.
This study aimed to evaluate the oral findings and dentomaxillofacial involvement of patients diagnosed with Type I Gaucher Disease (GD), and to compare these findings with the control group.
A total of 32 patients, 5 males, and 11 females in both the study (range 19-60, mean age 34.56) and control group (range 18-49, mean age 34.63) were included in the study. The file records of all patients obtained in the first evaluation were examined, and the hematological, visceral, and bone examination findings were recorded. Subsequently, oral examinations were performed for oral findings and dentomaxillofacial involvement, and radiological examinations were performed in panoramic images and cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images.
There was mandible involvement in 9 (56.3%), and involvement in both jaws in 4 (25.0%) of the patients with Type I GD. According to the CBCT findings, generalized rarefaction in 10 (62.5%) patients, enlarged marrow spaces in 12 (75.0%) patients, thinning of the lamina dura in 10 amiliar with the dentomaxillofacial findings of GD and be aware of possible oral and dental complications that may develop.
To evaluate the stiffness of tongue squamous cell carcinoma (TSCC) using ultrasound strain elastography, a relatively new sonographic imaging technique, and to identify the factors that affect this stiffness.
We treated 62 patients diagnosed with muscle invasive TSCC, who were treated at the department of oral surgery of our institution. Each patient's tumor stiffness was semi-quantified according to the ratio of cancer to tongue muscle strain measured using ultrasound strain elastography (the strain ratio). Histopathological diagnosis was made on the same section as the ultrasound strain elastography. We set the following histopathological parameters cancer cell content in the tumor area (%CCC), collagen fiber content in the tumor area (%CFC), and tumor-infiltrating inflammatory cell content in the stromal compartment (%TIIC). Spearman's rank correlation (rs) was used to assess correlations, and P values < 0.05 were considered significant.
The mean strain ratio was 9.7 ± 9.8. The mean %CCC was 38.4 ± 11.3%, and % CFC was 31.1 ± 7.8%, % TIICs was 19.9 ± 8.9%. Log (strain ratio) by ultrasound strain elastography was positively correlated with %CFC (r

Calreticulin (CALR) mutations in myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN) have been reported to be key markers in the molecular diagnosis, particularly in patients lacking JAK2 V617F mutation. In most current reports, CALR mutations were analysed by either allele-specific PCR (AS-PCR), or the more expensive quantitative real-time PCR, pyrosequencing and next-generation sequencing. Hence, we report the use of an alternative method, the conformation sensitive gel electrophoresis (CSGE) for the detection of CALR mutations in BCR-ABL1-negative MPN patients.
Forty BCR-ABL1-negative MPN patients' DNA 19 polycythemia vera (PV), 7 essential thrombocytosis (ET) and 14 primary myelofibrosis (PMF), were screened for CALR mutations by CSGE. PCR primers were designed to amplify sequences spanning between exons 8 and 9 to target the mutation hotspots in CALR. Amplicons displaying abnormal CSGE profiles by electrophoresis were directly sequenced, and results were analysed by BioEdit Sequence Alignment Editor v7.2.6. CSGE results were compared with AS-PCR and confirmed by Sanger sequencing.
CSGE identified 4 types of mutations; 2 PMF patients with either CALR type 1 (c.1099_1150del52) or type 2 (c.1155_1156insTTGTC), 1 ET patient with nucleotide deletion (c.1121delA) and insertion (c.1190insA) and 1 PV patient with p.K368del (c.1102_1104delAAG) and insertion (c.1135insA) inframe mutations. Three patients have an altered KDEL motif at the C-terminal of CALR protein. In comparison, AS-PCR only able to detect two PMF patients with mutations, either type 1 and type 2.

Previous research has demonstrated that a routine system plays a role in performing and controlling repeated sequential actions in familiar situations, and a top-down control system involves the control of the routine system in novel situations. Specifically, most developmental studies have focused on the top-down control system (e.g., executive functions) as a factor enabling the control of goal-directed actions in novel situations. Yet, it has not been thoroughly examined how young children learn, perform, and control repeated sequential actions in familiar contexts. In this review, based on recent computational accounts for adults, we highlight two critical aspects of the routine system from a developmental perspective (1) automatic flexible changes of contextual representations, which enables humans to select context-dependent actions appropriately; and (2) detection of deviant situations, which signals the need for control to avoid errors. In addition, we propose the developmental mechanism underlying the routine system and its potential driving factors such as statistical regularities and executive functions. For M-1 complexing CCl4 though, data from 2D EXSY measurements and 1D NMR line-shape analysis suggested that lower CCl4 concentrations would favor CS while the IF pathway prevailed at higher proportions of the guest. Since CS and IF are not mutually exclusive, we reason that our work sets the stage for characterizing the dynamics of a wide range of already existing hosts to broaden our fundamental understanding of their action. Specifically, Sirt6 physically interacted with GATA-1, and enhanced GATA-1's acetylation and transcriptional activity by facilitating its cooperation with p300. Overall, our results suggest that myeloid Sirt6 plays an important role in eosinophil differentiation and fat beiging/adaptive thermogenesis, which is at least in part due to its ability to bind GATA-1 and stimulate its transcriptional activity. Calreticulin (CALR) mutations in myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN) have been reported to be key markers in the molecular diagnosis, particularly in patients lacking JAK2 V617F mutation. In most current reports, CALR mutations were analysed by either allele-specific PCR (AS-PCR), or the more expensive quantitative real-time PCR, pyrosequencing and next-generation sequencing. Hence, we report the use of an alternative method, the conformation sensitive gel electrophoresis (CSGE) for the detection of CALR mutations in BCR-ABL1-negative MPN patients. Forty BCR-ABL1-negative MPN patients' DNA 19 polycythemia vera (PV), 7 essential thrombocytosis (ET) and 14 primary myelofibrosis (PMF), were screened for CALR mutations by CSGE. PCR primers were designed to amplify sequences spanning between exons 8 and 9 to target the mutation hotspots in CALR. Amplicons displaying abnormal CSGE profiles by electrophoresis were directly sequenced, and results were analysed by BioEdit Sequence Alignment Editor v7.2.6. CSGE results were compared with AS-PCR and confirmed by Sanger sequencing. CSGE identified 4 types of mutations; 2 PMF patients with either CALR type 1 (c.1099_1150del52) or type 2 (c.1155_1156insTTGTC), 1 ET patient with nucleotide deletion (c.1121delA) and insertion (c.1190insA) and 1 PV patient with p.K368del (c.1102_1104delAAG) and insertion (c.1135insA) inframe mutations. Three patients have an altered KDEL motif at the C-terminal of CALR protein. In comparison, AS-PCR only able to detect two PMF patients with mutations, either type 1 and type 2. Specifically, most developmental studies have focused on the top-down control system (e.g., executive functions) as a factor enabling the control of goal-directed actions in novel situations. Yet, it has not been thoroughly examined how young children learn, perform, and control repeated sequential actions in familiar contexts. In this review, based on recent computational accounts for adults, we highlight two critical aspects of the routine system from a developmental perspective (1) automatic flexible changes of contextual representations, which enables humans to select context-dependent actions appropriately; and (2) detection of deviant situations, which signals the need for control to avoid errors. In addition, we propose the developmental mechanism underlying the routine system and its potential driving factors such as statistical regularities and executive functions. Formal medical student engagement in curricular evaluation provides significant value through identification of opportunities for curricular change. Students provide diverse perspectives and have a unique vantage point, which allows them to see aspects of the curriculum that educators and administrators might not recognize. Current descriptions of student engagement are focused largely on collection, analysis, and presentation of summative feedback in the pre-clerkship curriculum. However, medical students could potentially contribute to curricular improvement in ways extending beyond
curricular evaluation. Student teams focused on identification of specific needs and project-based implementation of solutions represent one means of doing so but require a structured, organizing method in order to succeed.
We describe a novel, project-based, student-driven medical education initiative, the Special Projects Team, which is focused on identifying opportunities for forward-looking curricular enhancements beyrricular enhancements. This approach is broadly applicable to other medical schools with implementation requiring only a motivated student team, faculty advisor, and basic knowledge of the lean startup method.Phytochemical investigation of the fruit of Acronychia pedunculata (L.) Miq. led to the isolation of a new prenylated flavone, acroflavone A (1), together with eight known compounds (2-9). Their structures were elucidated by thorough analysis of mass spectrometric and NMR spectroscopic data. The isolated compounds were evaluated against several bacterial strains. Three known compounds (3-5) demonstrated antibacterial activities. Among them, acrovestone (5) proved equally or more potent than chloramphenicol against three out of the four strains tested.The aims of this research were to analyse the effect that different playing positions, passage durations and starting status had on the most demanding passages (MDP) of play in professional football matches. Players were categorized by positions and the MDP of distance (DIS), high-speed running distance (HSRD) and sprinting distance (SPD) were analysed for four passage durations (1, 3, 5 and 10 minutes). The results indicated that DIS (p less then 0.001), HSRD (p less then 0.001) and SPD (p less then 0.001) covered per minute decreased as the passage durations increased for all positions. Regarding the playing position, it had a significant effect on the DIS (p less then 0.001), HSRD (p less then 0.001) and SPD (p less then 0.001) covered. In addition, although the results reported that the starting status had no significant effect on the DIS (p = 0.36) covered, it had a statistically significant effect on the HSRD (p = 0.01) and SPD (p less then 0.001) covered. Coaching and medical departments should consider the impact that these variables have on players' performance when designing training drills aimed at preparing the player for the competitive demands.

Our scoping review followed Arksey and O'Malley's 6-step framework. Electronic databases were systematically searched; grey literature was hand-searched. Included papers were (1) published in English; (2) related to UL rehabilitation for people with upper motor neuron conditions; and (3) provided a description of, or research on, a decision-making aid that guides therapists when choosing between two or more intervention approaches, techniques, or applications of a technique. Levels of evidence were rated. An expert panel of occupational therapists working in UL neurorehabilitation was consulted.
The 24 included articles described 15 decision-making aids with varying breadth and depth of the assessment process and suggested interventions. Environmental education focused on the early-childhood years is experiencing dynamic growth in research and practice due to persistent environmental challenges coupled with burgeoning interest in the documented benefits of nature-rich experiences for infants and children. To better understand the landscape of early childhood environmental education (ECEE) pedagogical practices and expected outcomes, we undertook a systematic review of empirical studies of ECEE programs. Focusing on a 25-year span, we surfaced 66 studies that met our inclusion criteria. We found that participants in such programs spanned the early-childhood age range (birth through age eight) with the majority involving three- to six-year-olds in teacher-led, formal (school-like) programs. The primary outcomes documented in our sample studies included environmental literacy development, cognitive development, and social and emotional development. To a lesser extent, the studies addressed physical development and language and literacy development. On balance, our sample of ECEE studies reported strongly positive findings associated with the aforementioned outcomes. The majority emphasized the effectiveness of play-based, nature-rich pedagogical approaches that incorporated movement and social interaction. We include a visualization that synthesizes cross-sample findings with the intention of assisting ECEE practitioners in developing, implementing, and evaluating programs as well as encouraging researchers to further study elements, processes, and theoretical assumptions inherent in them.Several technological solutions have emerged over the last several months to support proximity contact tracing to fight the COVID-19 pandemic. In a previous work, we proposed five methods to solve the problem of signal localization using elements of pole-polar geometry. The proposals were innovative, since they solved a geometric problem (locating a point in a coordinate system) only by applying concepts of geometry. Among these developed methods, the PPC (Pole-Polar Centroid model) was also presented. Although the PPC solves the problem of locating a device with better precision than conventional methods (based on numerical or optimization methods), its accuracy was found to be the worst among the five proposed geometric methods. In this context, this work proposes an extension to our PPC method, called the weighted Pole-Polar Centroid method (wPPC), which improves the accuracy of the previous PPC results. Such an extension does not change the complexity O(m 2) or the minimum dimensionality (m = 2) of nodes, which integrate a location network to perform the triangulation of such signals. Moreover, this extension estimates a device's location coordinates by means of the interaction, via signals, of this device with the network nodes distributed in any coordinate system. An IEEE 802.11 network infrastructure is used to accomplish the experiments. Errors in signal data are common, and our new proposed method, the wPPC, can mitigate the influence of these errors, produce more accurate results than the PPC, and outperform some of the other four proposed geometric methods and current numeric methods. This paper proposes a state-of-the-art privacy-preserving medical data sharing system based on Hyperledger Fabric (MedHypChain), where each transaction is secured via an Identity-based broadcast group signcryption scheme. We proved that MedHypChain achieves confidentiality, anonymity, traceability, and unforgeability. Besides, we regularize the MedHypChain to implement the PCI healthcare system, where the patient manages its health-related information in the blockchain that can be accessible to the authorized entity. We also use the Hyperledger caliber as a benchmark tool to analyze the performance of MedHypChain in three metrics (latency time, execution time, and throughput) for up to 20 permissioned nodes. Finally, we compare MedHypChain with related blockchain-based healthcare systems and found that the proposed scheme needs the least computation cost and communication cost and achieves all security features, such as authenticity, scalability, and access control.In many countries, the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) has been deployed in tandem with other strategies to curb the spread of COVID-19, improve the safety of front-line personnel, increase efficacy by lessening the severity of the disease on human lives, and decrease mortality rates. We proved that MedHypChain achieves confidentiality, anonymity, traceability, and unforgeability. Besides, we regularize the MedHypChain to implement the PCI healthcare system, where the patient manages its health-related information in the blockchain that can be accessible to the authorized entity. We also use the Hyperledger caliber as a benchmark tool to analyze the performance of MedHypChain in three metrics (latency time, execution time, and throughput) for up to 20 permissioned nodes. The overall purpose of the study was to explore perceptions of family support in diabetes self-management among African American adults with type 2 diabetes.
A qualitative study using focus group methodology and individual interviews was conducted. Thirty-seven African American adults with type 2 diabetes were recruited in the Midwest, United States. Data were analyzed using qualitative content analysis.
Themes emerged from the perspectives of the social interdependence theory. Positive family support included emotional support, instrumental support, and specific information or advice on diabetes management strategies. Positivity, family communication, and healthy eating/meal planning were perceived as helpful family behaviors. Negative support was perceived as intentional or unintentional behaviors. Family members' help in decision-making included goal setting with family member(s) and help in making decisions on diet and exercise. Recommendations included exercise and nutritional programs, support groups, family involvement, and materials and resources. Motivations for attending diabetes programs included involving family members, sharing success stories, seeing positive results, encouraging and caring, and providing incentives.
Intervention programs for African Americans should specifically target challenges in family support, healthy eating, and physical activity at an interpersonal level. Health care providers should assess family roles and family support to facilitate diabetes self-management for African Americans.

We used International Classification of Diseases (ICD) coding to identify cases, examining the impact of transition from ICD-9 (Ninth Revision) to ICD-10 (Tenth Revision), which occurred in October 2015 and added 14 new codes for "suspected" mistreatment. 8,127 patients (0.051% of all aged ≥ 65), including 6,304 with MA (0.058%) and 1,823 with private insurance (0.026%) received elder mistreatment diagnosis. Transition from ICD-9 to ICD-10 was associated with a small increase in diagnosis rate, with "suspected" codes used in 45.3% of ICD-10 versus 9.7% of ICD-9 cases. Overall rates remained low. To develop the Symptom Questionnaire for Visual Dysfunctions (SQVD) and to perform a psychometric analysis using Rasch method to obtain an instrument which allows to detect the presence and frequency of visual symptoms related to any visual dysfunction. A pilot version of 33 items was carried out on a sample of 125 patients from an optometric clinic. Rasch model (using Andrich Rating Scale Model) was applied to investigate the category probability curves and Andrich thresholds, infit and outfit mean square, local dependency using Yen's Q3 statistic, Differential item functioning (DIF) for gender and presbyopia, person and item reliability, unidimensionality, targeting and ordinal to interval conversion table. Category probability curves suggested to collapse a response category. Rasch analysis reduced the questionnaire from 33 to 14 items. The final SQVD showed that 14 items fit to the model without local dependency and no significant DIF for gender and presbyopia. Person reliability was satisfactory (0.81). The first contrast of the residual was 1.908 eigenvalue, showing unidimensionality and targeting was - 1.59 logits. In general, the SQVD is a well-structured tool which shows that data adequately fit the Rasch model, with adequate psychometric properties, making it a reliable and valid instrument to measure visual symptoms.Androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) for men with prostate cancer (PCa) results in accelerated bone loss and increased risk of bone fracture. The aim of the present study was to evaluate serum bone markers-sclerostin, Dickkopf-1 (DKK-1) and osteoprotegerin (OPG), in a cohort of 88 PCa patients without known bone metastases, managed with and without ADT, and to analyse their relationship with bone mineral density (BMD) and sex steroids. The cross-sectional analysis between acute-, chronic- and former-ADT groups and PCa controls showed that sclerostin and OPG levels significantly differed between them (p = 0.029 and p = 0.032). Groups contributing to these significant changes were recorded. There were no significant differences in serum DKK-1 levels across the four groups (p = 0.683). In the longitudinal analysis, significant % decreases within groups were seen for DKK-1 [chronic-ADT (- 10.06%, p = 0.0057), former-ADT (- 12.77%, p = 0.0239), and in PCa controls group (- 16.73, p = 0.0022); and OPG levels in chronic ADT (- 8.28%, p = 0.003) and PCa controls group (- 12.82%, p = 0.017)]. However, % changes in sclerostin, DKK-1, and OPG did not differ significantly over 6-months across the evaluated groups. Sclerostin levels showed significant positive correlations with BMD at baseline in the ADT group, while in PCa controls this correlation existed at both baseline and 6-month time points. Sclerostin correlated negatively with testosterone in former ADT users and in PCa controls. However, standard pure-statistical feature selection approaches often fail to incorporate prior biological knowledge and select genes that lack biological insights. Besides, due to the high dimensionality and low sample size properties of microarray data, selecting robust gene features is an intrinsically challenging problem. We hence combined systems biology feature selection with ensemble learning in this study, aiming to select genes with biological insights and robust prognostic predictive power. Moreover, to capture breast cancer's complex molecular processes, we adopted a multi-gene approach to predict the prognosis status using deep learning classifiers. We found that all ensemble approaches could improve feature selection robustness, wherein the hybrid ensemble approach led to the most robust result. Among all prognosis prediction models, the bimodal deep neural network (DNN) achieved the highest test performance, further verified by survival analysis. Significant increases in the amount of cytoplasmic TDP-43 and FUS were detectable in cells expressing known FTD/ALS-causative TARDBP and FUS gene mutations.
