    This study proposes a fully automated approach for the left atrial segmentation from routine cine long-axis cardiac magnetic resonance image sequences using deep convolutional neural networks and Bayesian filtering. The proposed approach consists of a classification network that automatically detects the type of long-axis sequence and three different convolutional neural network models followed by unscented Kalman filtering (UKF) that delineates the left atrium. Instead of training and predicting all long-axis sequence types together, the proposed approach first identifies the image sequence type as to 2, 3 and 4 chamber views, and then performs prediction based on neural nets trained for that particular sequence type. The datasets were acquired retrospectively and ground truth manual segmentation was provided by an expert radiologist. In addition to neural net based classification and segmentation, another neural net is trained and utilized to select image sequences for further processing using UKF to impose temporal consistency over cardiac cycle. A cyclic dynamic model with time-varying angular frequency is introduced in UKF to characterize the variations in cardiac motion during image scanning. CT imaging has been used as a complementary tool to assist early screening, especially for the rapid identification of COVID-19 cases from community acquired pneumonia (CAP) cases. The main challenge in early screening is how to model the confusing cases in the COVID-19 and CAP groups, with very similar clinical manifestations and imaging features. To tackle this challenge, we propose an Uncertainty Vertex-weighted Hypergraph Learning (UVHL) method to identify COVID-19 from CAP using CT images. In particular, multiple types of features (including regional features and radiomics features) are first extracted from CT image for each case. Then, the relationship among different cases is formulated by a hypergraph structure, with each case represented as a vertex in the hypergraph. The uncertainty of each vertex is further computed with an uncertainty score measurement and used as a weight in the hypergraph. Finally, a learning process of the vertex-weighted hypergraph is used to predict whether a new testing case belongs to COVID-19 or not. Experiments on a large multi-center pneumonia dataset, consisting of 2148 COVID-19 cases and 1182 CAP cases from five hospitals, are conducted to evaluate the prediction accuracy of the proposed method. This task is tedious, time-consuming, and prone to subjective errors. However, designing automatic counting methods remains challenging due to low image contrast, complex background, large variance in cell shapes and counts, and significant cell occlusions in two-dimensional microscopy images. In this study, we proposed a new density regression-based method for automatically counting cells in microscopy images. The proposed method processes two innovations compared to other state-of-the-art density regression-based methods. First, the density regression model (DRM) is designed as a concatenated fully convolutional regression network (C-FCRN) to employ multi-scale image features for the estimation of cell density maps from given images. Second, auxiliary convolutional neural networks (AuxCNNs) are employed to assist in the training of intermediate layers of the designed C-FCRN to improve the DRM performance on unseen datasets. Experimental studies evaluated on four datasets demonstrate the superior performance of the proposed method.Temporal correlation in dynamic magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), such as cardiac MRI, is informative and important to understand motion mechanisms of body regions. Modeling such information into the MRI reconstruction process produces temporally coherent image sequence and reduces imaging artifacts and blurring. However, existing deep learning based approaches neglect motion information during the reconstruction procedure, while traditional motion-guided methods are hindered by heuristic parameter tuning and long inference time. We propose a novel dynamic MRI reconstruction approach called MODRN and an end-to-end improved version called MODRN(e2e), both of which enhance the reconstruction quality by infusing motion information into the modeling process with deep neural networks. The central idea is to decompose the motion-guided optimization problem of dynamic MRI reconstruction into three components Dynamic Reconstruction Network, Motion Estimation and Motion Compensation. Extensive experiments have demonstrated the effectiveness of our proposed approach compared to other state-of-the-art approaches.

    The juvenile phase is characterized by continuously progressing physiological processes such as growth and maturation, which are accompanied by transitions in gene expression. The contribution of transcriptome dynamics to the establishment of juvenile properties remains unclear. Here, we investigated alternative splicing (AS) events in postnatal growth and elucidated the landscape of age-dependent alternative splicing (ADAS) in C57BL/6 ****. Our analysis of ADAS in the cerebral cortex, cardiomyocytes, and hepatocytes revealed numerous juvenile-specific splicing isoforms that shape the juvenile transcriptome, which in turn functions as a basis for the highly anabolic status of juvenile cells. Mechanistically, the juvenile-expressed splicing factor Srsf7 mediates ADAS, as exemplified by switching from juvenile to adult forms of anabolism-associated genes Eif4a2 and Rbm7. Suppression of Srsf7 results in "fast-forwarding" of this transcriptome transition, causing impaired anabolism and growth in ****. Thus, juvenile-specific AS is indispensable for the anabolic state of juveniles and differentiates juveniles from adults. Although previous studies have shown that the local symmetry of spin carriers plays a crucial part in the spin-lattice relaxation process, its role in the spin decoherence is still unclear. Herein, two nine-coordinated capped square antiprism neodymium moieties [Nd(CO3)4H2O]5- with slightly different local symmetries, C1 versus C4 (1 and 2), are reported, which feature in the easy-plane magnetic anisotropy as shown by the high-frequency electron paramagnetic resonance (HF-EPR) studies. Detailed analysis of the relaxation time suggests that the phonon bottleneck effect is essential to the magnetic relaxation in the crystalline samples of 1 and 2. The 240 GHz Pulsed EPR studies show that the higher symmetry results in longer decoherence times, which is supported by the first principle calculations. Polyketides produced by modular polyketide synthases (PKSs) are important small molecules widely used as drugs, pesticides, and biological probes. Tagging these polyketides with a clickable functionality enables the visualization, diversification, and mode of action study through bio-orthogonal chemistry. We report the de novo biosynthesis of alkyne-tagged polyketides by modular type I PKSs through starter unit engineering. Specifically, we use JamABC, a terminal alkyne biosynthetic machinery from the jamaicamide B biosynthetic pathway, in combination with representative modular PKSs. We demonstrate that JamABC works as a trans loading system for engineered type I PKSs to produce alkyne-tagged polyketides. In addition, the production efficiency can be improved by enhancing the interactions between the carrier protein (JamC) and PKSs using docking domains and site-directed mutagenesis of JamC. This work thus provides engineering guidelines and strategies that are applicable to additional modular type I PKSs to produce targeted alkyne-tagged metabolites for chemical and biological applications. Stroke survivors are known to suffer from post-stroke depression (PSD). However, the likelihood of structural changes in the brains of PSD patients has not been explored. This study aims to extract changes in the gray matter of these patients and test how these changes account for the PSD symptoms. High-resolution T1 weighted images were collected from 23 PSD patients diagnosed with subcortical stroke. Voxel-based morphometry and support vector machine analyses were used to analyze the data. The results were compared with those collected from 33 non-PSD patients. PSD group showed decreased gray matter volume (GMV) in the left middle frontal gyrus (MFG) when compared to the non-PSD patients. Together with the clinical and demographic variables, the MFG's GMV predictive model was able to distinguish PSD from the non-PSD patients (0•70 sensitivity and 0•88 specificity). The changes in the left inferior frontal gyrus (61%) and dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (39%) suggest that the somatic/affective symptoms in PSD is likely to be due to patients' problems with understanding and appraising negative emotional stimuli. The impact brought by the reduced prefrontal to limbic system connectivity needs further exploration. These findings indicate possible systemic involvement of the frontolimbic network resulting in PSD after brain lesions which is likely to be independent from the location of the lesion. The results inform specific clinical interventions to be provided for treating depressive symptoms in post-stroke patients. Survey data were collected from 729 Ohio residents collected in November 2018. The specific regulatory policy measure we targeted is fines on excessive agricultural runoff. As hypothesized, autonomy beliefs negatively affect, and accountability positively affect support for fines. Both models revealed good fits. the direct effects of environmental worldviews political orientation were not supported. Instead, environmental worldviews indirectly increased support for fines through increased accountability beliefs and diminished autonomy beliefs. From the results, we suggest that when proposing suitable regulations for specific sites, policy makers and interest groups should be aware of differences in public support for farmer autonomy and external accountability, and that such differences are likely rooted in environmental worldviews.     Focal Cortical Dysplasias (FCD) are localized malformative brain lesions in epilepsy. FCD3a associated with hippocampal sclerosis, affects the superficial cortex and is presumed to have an 'acquired' rather than developmental origin. Precursor cells may arise outside neurogenic zones including cortical layer I. Our aim was to characterise subsets of glial progenitor cells in the superficial cortical layers, known to be involved in gliosis and gliogenesis and that could distinguish FCD3a from other subtypes.

    Thus, ILCs may be a sensitive detector of microenvironmental changes, and analysis of their phenotype and function at local sites may enable us to better understand the microenvironment in airway diseases. In this review, we aimed to identify molecules that either positively or negatively influence the function and/or plasticity of ILCs and the sources of the molecules in the airways in order to examine the pathophysiology of airway inflammatory diseases and facilitate the issues to be solved. METHODS Data from Korea Emergency Department-based Injury In-depth Surveillance (EDIIS) database involving eight emergency departments in 2011-2016 were analysed. The inclusion criteria were injuries sustained during the use of PMDs. The variables were compared between adults aged ≥ 65 years and younger adults. Primary and secondary outcomes were severe trauma and poor clinical course accordingly. The logistic regression analysis was used to identify risk factors for study outcomes. RESULTS A total of 231 adults were enrolled, of whom 150 were ≥ 65 years of age. The total number of PMD-related injuries and the proportion of elderly injured patients increased annually, and most injuries occurred on the roadway and did not involve crash opponents. By multivariate analysis, patients aged ≥ 65 years had a higher injury severity score (adjusted odds ratio [AOR], 2.78; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.50-5.40) and had a higher incidence of intensive care unit admissions, surgery, and death (AOR, 2.42; 95% CI, 1.16-5.28). CONCLUSION Given the higher number and severity of injuries sustained among elderly adults ≥ 65 years of age shown in this study, we recommend that safety educations, such as the use of protective equipment and the safe driving on the roadway, are considered for PMD users ≥ 65 years of age. © 2020 The Korean Academy of Medical Sciences.BACKGROUND Long-term administration of ethambutol (EMB) for Mycobacterium avium complex lung disease (****LD) sometimes leads to permanent discontinuation of EMB due to various adverse events. This study aimed to investigate treatment outcomes after discontinuation of EMB. METHODS Among patients diagnosed with ****LD between January 2001 and December 2014, 508 patients whose treatment was initiated with standard regimen until May 2018 were enrolled at a tertiary referral center in Korea. Of these 508 patients, 60 (11.8%) discontinued EMB due to various adverse effects. Among these 60 patients, treatment outcomes were analyzed for 44 patients by comparing their outcomes with those of matched subjects who received the standard treatment regimen without EMB discontinuation. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/tvb-2640.html RESULTS The mean age of the 60 patients who discontinued EMB was 64.4 years. Ocular toxicity was the most common cause of discontinuation of EMB (75.0%, 45/60). The mean duration of EMB administration before its discontinuation was 7.0 ± 4.6 months. The treatment failure rate of the 44 patients with EMB discontinuation analyzed for treatment outcome was 29.6%, which was higher than that of the matched patients who received the standard regimen (18.3%), although the difference was not significant (P = 0.095). Of these 44 patients, EMB was substituted with later-generation fluoroquinolone in 23 patients, and the treatment failure rate of these 23 patients was significantly higher than that of the matched patients who received the standard regimen (39.1% vs. 19.3%, P = 0.045). CONCLUSION These findings suggest that treatment outcomes are unsatisfactory in patients with ****LD who discontinue EMB owing to adverse events. METHODS We used SH-SY5Y cells to determine the viability of neuronal cells treated with sugammadex. Zebrafish larvae were used to determine the teratogenic effects of sugammadex. RESULTS Sugammadex showed no adverse effects on neuronal cells and zebrafish larvae. The survival rates of neuronal cells were not different in all concentrations. RESULTS During mean follow-up duration of 2.6 ± 1.6 years, appropriate ICD therapy occurred in 78 patients (25.6%), and appropriate ICD shock and anti-tachycardia pacing occurred in 15.1% and 15.1% of patients, respectively. Appropriate ICD shock rate was not different between the two groups (primary 12% vs. secondary 18.8%, P = 0.118). LLS tumors were diagnosed at a mean age of 60.7 years, had an almost equivalent ratio among rectum, left colon and right colon, and had high rates of lymph node metastases (50%, 4/28 N2).     This systematic review aimed to synthesize current evidence on contributing factors influencing outcome following exercise management for Achilles tendinopathy (AT).

    Sixty-four patients undergoing cardiac implantable electronic device lead extraction at Oslo University Hospital Ulleval from March 2018 to September 2019 were randomized to music therapy (n = 32) or control (n = 32). Great saphenous vein (GSV) recanalization and truncular recurrence were evaluated at 1 and 3 months with a Duplex Ultrasound Anatomy (DUS) examination. Results At 1- and 3-month follow-ups, none of the 14 patients treated with the polidocanol 3% foam were observed to have had great saphenous vein GSV recanalization and truncular recurrence. Only 2 of the 14 (14.3%) cases treated with polidocanol 1.5% foam showed evidence of recanalization within the first centimetres from the sapheno-femoral junction (p > .05). All patients experienced clinical benefits without recurrence of symptoms. Drug release was characterized by an initial fast release followed by a sustained release with 28.34 ± 2.82% of RXB available in 72 h. RXBNp showed an expressive time-dependent anticoagulant activity in human and rat blood plasma and non-toxic profile. The remaining seven did not have an identifiable genetic etiology. Of cases without a genetic etiology with postnatal follow-up (n=6) there were no abnormalities of blood pressure, creatinine/estimated glomerular filtration rate or urinalysis identified with follow-up from 2-71months. We report 11 cases with extrarenal anomalies (nonisolated), with outcomes and etiologies. A computed tomography scan of the abdomen and pelvis showed a hepatic flexure colonic mass. Colonoscopy revealed pancolonic varices. Biopsy from the lesion revealed adenocarcinoma. Options were discussed with the patient to undergo only a right hemicolectomy for his cancer or a total colectomy to include the colonic segment involved with varices, and he elected the first option, with no complications upon 1 year follow up. CONCLUSIONS Idiopathic pan-colonic varices are rare pathology. Their presence with colonic tumor presents a dilemma as to whether a subtotal/total colectomy is needed on the premise that a limited resection may carry the risk of subsequent bleeding. As a key epigenetic mechanism, DNA methylation is extensively involved in regulating physiological and pathological pathways. The optimization process of the iron-magnesium nanocomposite (nFe0-Mg) was conducted through different approaches including settlement tests, morphology and crystallinity investigations and particle size estimation. The addition of Mg(OH)2 to nFe0 with a Mg/Fe coating ratio of 100% resulted in stimulated stability of the particles in aqueous suspension with around 95% enhancement in the suspension efficiency compared to that of nFe0. Results showed that the average particle size and degree of crystallinity of nFe0-Mg(Mg/Fe100%) decreased by 46.7% and increased by 16.8%, respectively, comparing with that of nFe0. Additionally, the iron core of the synthesized nFe0 was adequately protected from aqueous corrosion with lower iron oxides leachates after the optimal modification with Mg(OH)2. Studies are increasingly focusing on the impact of regeneration, fibrosis, angiogenesis, inflammation, immunomodulation, and hepatic stem cells on HCC development and progression. As a key epigenetic mechanism, DNA methylation is extensively involved in regulating physiological and pathological pathways. In this review, we summarize recent findings on the role of DNA methylation in the fibrotic, angiogenic, inflammatory/immune, and stem cell microenvironments of HCC, and discuss new advances in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) on influencing the abnormal LRM, so as to gain new insights into alleviating the abnormal LRM via regulating DNA methylation by TCM.To remove NO3-N from water, coconut shell biochar (CSB) was modified by a solution of FeCl3, a solution of AlCl3 and a mixture solution of FeCl3 and AlCl3 respectively. The obtained modified biochar with the best effect of NO3-N adsorption was screened out to explore the adsorption behavior and mechanism of NO3-N removal by batch experiments and kinetics and thermodynamics and correlated characterization. The results indicated that the mixture solution of FeCl3- and AlCl3- modified CSB (Fe-Al/CSB) showed the best adsorption performance for NO3-N removal. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/z-devd-fmk.html Iron and aluminum elements existed on the surface of Fe-Al/CSB in the form of FeOOH, Fe2O3, Fe2+, and Al2O3 respectively. The adsorption process could reach equilibrium in 20 min. An acidic condition was favorable for NO3-N adsorption. The presence of coexisting anions was not conducive for NO3-N adsorption. The quasi-second-order model and Freundlich model could be well fitted in the adsorption process. The maximum adsorption capacity of Fe-Al/CSB fitted by the Langmuir model could reach 34.20 mg/g. The adsorption of NO3-N by Fe-Al/CSB was an endothermic and spontaneous process. Ligand exchange and chemical redox reaction were the NO3-N adsorption mechanisms which led to NO3-N adsorption by Fe-Al/CSB.Nanoscale zero-valent iron (nFe0) tends to aggregate, which dramatically affects its aqueous characteristics and thereby its potential in water treatment applications. Hence, the main aim of this study is to overcome such drawback of nFe0 by a new modification approach. Iron nanoparticles were modified by magnesium hydroxide (Mg(OH)2) addition with different mass ratios in order to form a nanocomposite with superior aqueous characteristics. The optimization process of the iron-magnesium nanocomposite (nFe0-Mg) was conducted through different approaches including settlement tests, morphology and crystallinity investigations and particle size estimation. The addition of Mg(OH)2 to nFe0 with a Mg/Fe coating ratio of 100% resulted in stimulated stability of the particles in aqueous suspension with around 95% enhancement in the suspension efficiency compared to that of nFe0. Results showed that the average particle size and degree of crystallinity of nFe0-Mg(Mg/Fe100%) decreased by 46.7% and increased by 16.8%, respectively, comparing with that of nFe0. Additionally, the iron core of the synthesized nFe0 was adequately protected from aqueous corrosion with lower iron oxides leachates after the optimal modification with Mg(OH)2. Furthermore, Mg(OH)2 coating resulted in a stimulated adsorption reactivity of the composite towards phosphorus (P) with around 3.13% promotion in the removal efficiency comparing to that of nFe0.ZnO@SiO2 composite with flower-like structure was successfully prepared with molar ratio of ZnO/SiO2 = 11 based on the optimized synthesizing parameters of spherical SiO2 and flower-like ZnO. SiO2 particles were coated on the flower-like ZnO to form a homogeneous film through the multidimensional polycondensation of Si(OH)4. The photocatalytic degradation ability of ZnO@SiO2 composite for rhodamine B (RhB) obtained at different ZnO/SiO2 molar ratio and the comparison to that of flower-like ZnO showed that ZnO@SiO2 composite with ZnO/SiO2 molar ratio of 11 displayed a relatively good photocatalytic degradation ability to degrade RhB, but it was weaker than that of flower-like ZnO. Twenty millilitres of RhB solution at a concentration of 15 mg·L-1 could be completely degraded by 300 mg flower-like ZnO powder within 3 h, while the degrading efficiency was only 82.5% by 300 mg ZnO@SiO2 composite. But ZnO@SiO2 composite showed a better photocatalytic activity than flower-like ZnO at a lower pH value of 4.5.
