Because these affected individuals with classical features of VDEGS lacked a detectable pathogenic SCARF2 variant, genetic heterogeneity is likely. Under a low power density of 0.2 W cm-2 , the temperature produced by the photothermal agent was sufficient to induce apoptosis. The present method is thus a complementary method to FRET and provides direct information on biomolecular dynamics on the μs to ms timescale.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of the serum albumin/globulin ratio (AGR) on the 30-day mortality of febrile neutropenia (FEN). The second aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of the combination of the AGR with the Multinational Association for Supportive Care in Cancer (MASCC) and Clinical Index of Stable Febrile Neutropenia (CISNE) risk indexes on 30-day mortality of FEN.
A retrospective study evaluating the effect of serum AGR, MASCC and CISNE scores on 30-day FEN mortality.
A total of 137 FEN episodes in 120 patients were included in this study. Nineteen patients (14%) died within the first 30days of FEN episodes. The 30-day mortality rate was calculated as 4% in patients with high AGR and 23% in patients with low AGR (P=.002). According to the MASCC and CISNE risk scores, the mortality rates in low-risk patients were 8% and 6%, respectively, and in the high-risk group 22% and 29%, respectively (P=.024 vs P<.001). In the group of patients with MASCC <21 and CISNE ≥3, the 30-day mortality rate was 7%, when the AGR was >1.13, and in those with AGR ≤1.13 mortality rate increased to 50% (P=.012).
A low AGR in a patient with FEN was found to be associated with an increased risk of 30-day mortality. Combining the AGR with MASCC and CISNE risk indexes might increase the predictive value of these scoring systems on 30-day mortality.

In conclusion, our results suggest the therapeutic effect of hUCB-**** transplantation in cartilage regeneration, providing a promising future in the clinical treatment of cartilage injury.Antiseptic wound ointments are widely used to treat dermal wounds that are microbially contaminated. Polygalacturonic acid (PG)+caprylic acid (CAP) is a novel combination that has been shown to eradicate biofilms. We developed a novel PG+CAP ointment and compared the biofilm eradication capability and cytotoxicity of PG+CAP with that of commercially available antiseptic wound ointments. We used a well-established biofilm model to quantitatively assess the eradication of organisms following exposure to the wound ointments for 2 hours. PG+CAP ointment completely eradicated Candida albicans, multidrug-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus biofilms, whereas MediHoney, polyhexamethylene biguanide (PHMB), and benzalkonium chloride (BZK) ointments failed to eradicate all biofilms within 2 hours. We assessed cytotoxicity by exposing L-929 fibroblasts to extracts of each ointment; Trypan blue exclusion was used to assess cell viability, and Alamar blue conversion was used to assess metabolic function. After exposure to PG+CAP and MediHoney, fibroblast viability was 96.23% and 95.23%, respectively (Trypan blue), and was comparable to untreated cells (98.77%). PHMB and BZK showed reduced viability (83.25% and 77.83%, respectively, p less then 0.05). Metabolic activity results followed a similar pattern. Cytotoxicity of PG+CAP ointment towards erythrocytes was comparable to saline. PG+CAP ointment seems to be safe and can rapidly eradicate microbial biofilm; thus, PG+CAP ointment merits further in vivo testing as a potential antimicrobial wound ointment.Potassium (K+) plays key roles in plant growth and development. However, molecular mechanism studies of K+ nutrition in forest plants are largely rare. In plants, SKOR gene encodes for the outward rectifying Shaker-type K+ channel that is responsible for the long-distance transportation of K+ through xylem in roots. In this study, we determined a Shaker-type K+ channel gene in purple osier (Salix purpurea), designated as SpuSKOR, and determined its function using a patch clamp electrophysiological system. SpuSKOR was closely clustered with poplar PtrSKOR in the phylogenetic tree. Quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) analyses demonstrated that SpuSKOR was predominantly expressed in roots, and expression decreased under K+ depletion conditions. Patch clamp analysis via HEK293-T cells demonstrated that the activity of the SpuSKOR channel was activated when the cell membrane voltage reached at -10 mV, and the channel activity was enhanced along with the increase of membrane voltage. Outward currents were recorded and induced in response to the decrease of external K+ concentration. Our results indicate that SpuSKOR is a typical voltage dependent outwardly rectifying K+ channel in purple osier. This study provides theoretical basis for revealing the mechanism of K+ transport and distribution in woody plants.In this study we report on a patient with a left common iliac vein aneurysm; a condition rarely seen in vascular surgery. A 49-year-old man with no history of trauma or surgery underwent computed tomography (CT) for the evaluation of lumbago. A subsequent 64-slice CT angiogram revealed a left common iliac vein aneurysm. Surgery was performed due to the possibility of rupture. The aneurysm was successfully treated with clipping and sutures and a pre-discharge CT showed the aneurysm had shrunk. We combine our experience treating this patient with a review of the characteristics of other reported cases and methods used to treat iliac vein aneurysms. A definitive diagnosis is recommended in patients in whom an iliac vein aneurysm is suspected, with a CT angiogram being a dependable diagnostic method. There is still no unified standard for the treatment of aneurysms. Conservative treatment can be chosen for some small aneurysms in early stage, but close follow-up is needed. Surgical treatment is still recommended for some large aneurysms. Because we know that if an aneurysm ruptures, it can be life-threatening. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) regulate several integral biologic processes by playing key roles in the transcription of several downstream targets maintaining cellular behavior. Prior studies have revealed that lncRNAs promote tumor cell proliferation, invasion, metastasis, and angiogenesis, making them important targets for therapeutic intervention in cancer. While the exact molecular mechanisms underlying the role of lncRNAs in modulating TC progression and recurrence is still unclear, it is important to note that some lncRNAs are upregulated in certain cancers, while others are downregulated. In the present study, we review several key lncRNAs, their association with cancer progression, and the important roles they may play as tumor suppressors or tumor promoters in tumorigenesis. We discuss the potential mechanisms of lncRNA-mediated pathogenesis that can be targeted for the treatment of TC, the existing and potential benefits of using lncRNAs as diagnostic and prognostic measures for cancer detection, and tumor burden in patients.

The incidence of surgical site infections may be underreported if the data are not routinely validated for accuracy. Our goal was to investigate the communicated SSI rate from a large network of Swiss hospitals compared with the results from on-site surveillance quality audits.
Retrospective cohort study.
In total, 81,957 knee and hip prosthetic arthroplasties from 125 hospitals and 33,315 colorectal surgeries from 110 hospitals were included in the study.
Hospitals had at least 2 external audits to assess the surveillance quality. The 50-point standardized score per audit summarizes quantitative and qualitative information from both structured interviews and a random selection of patient records. We calculated the mean National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) risk index adjusted infection rates in both surgery groups.
The median NHSN adjusted infection rate per hospital was 1.0% (interquartile range [IQR], 0.6%-1.5%) with median audit score of 37 (IQR, 33-42) for knee and hip arthroplasty, and 12.7% (IQR, 9.0%-16.6%), with median audit score 38 (IQR, 35-42) for colorectal surgeries. We observed a wide range of SSI rates and surveillance quality, with discernible clustering for public and private hospitals, and both lower infection rates and audit scores for private hospitals. Infection rates increased with audit scores for knee and hip arthroplasty (P value for the slope = .002), and this was also the case for planned (P = .002), and unplanned (P = .02) colorectal surgeries.
Surveillance systems without routine evaluation of validity may underestimate the true incidence of SSIs. Audit quality should be taken into account when interpreting SSI rates, perhaps by adjusting infection rates for those hospitals with lower audit scores.

Retrospectively apply criteria from Center to Advance Palliative Care to a cohort of children treated in a cardiac ICU and compare children who received a palliative care consultation to those who were eligible for but did not receive one.
Medical records of children admitted to a cardiac ICU between January 2014 and June 2017 were reviewed. Selected criteria include cardiac ICU length of stay >14 days and/or ≥ 3 hospitalisations within a 6-month period.
A consultation occurred in 17% (n = 48) of 288 eligible children. Patent ductus arteriosus stenting in duct-dependent pulmonary circulation is a challenging procedure. Percutaneous carotid artery access for ductal stenting has proven to be feasible; however, comparison with femoral artery access in terms of procedure details and complications either immediate or late is scarce. Therefore, we evaluated carotid artery access in comparison with femoral artery for stenting of patent ductus arteriosus.

The incidence of surgical site infections may be underreported if the data are not routinely validated for accuracy. Our goal was to investigate the communicated SSI rate from a large network of Swiss hospitals compared with the results from on-site surveillance quality audits. Retrospective cohort study. In total, 81,957 knee and hip prosthetic arthroplasties from 125 hospitals and 33,315 colorectal surgeries from 110 hospitals were included in the study. Hospitals had at least 2 external audits to assess the surveillance quality. The 50-point standardized score per audit summarizes quantitative and qualitative information from both structured interviews and a random selection of patient records. We calculated the mean National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) risk index adjusted infection rates in both surgery groups. The median NHSN adjusted infection rate per hospital was 1.0% (interquartile range [IQR], 0.6%-1.5%) with median audit score of 37 (IQR, 33-42) for knee and hip arthroplasty, and 12.7% (IQR, 9.0%-16.6%), with median audit score 38 (IQR, 35-42) for colorectal surgeries. We observed a wide range of SSI rates and surveillance quality, with discernible clustering for public and private hospitals, and both lower infection rates and audit scores for private hospitals. Infection rates increased with audit scores for knee and hip arthroplasty (P value for the slope = .002), and this was also the case for planned (P = .002), and unplanned (P = .02) colorectal surgeries. Cardiovascular disease is a major cause of death globally. This has led to significant efforts to develop new anti-thrombotic therapies or re-purpose existing drugs to treat cardiovascular diseases. Due to difficulties of obtaining healthy human blood vessel tissues to recreate in vivo conditions, pre-clinical testing of these drugs currently requires significant use of animal experimentation, however, the successful translation of drugs from animal tests to use in humans is poor. Developing humanised drug test models that better replicate the human vasculature will help to develop anti-thrombotic therapies more rapidly. Tissue-engineered human blood vessel (TEBV) models were fabricated with biomimetic matrix and cellular components. The pro- and anti-aggregatory properties of both intact and FeCl3-injured TEBVs were assessed under physiological flow conditions using a modified parallel-plate flow chamber. These were perfused with fluorescently labelled human platelets and endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs), and their responses were monitored in real-time using fluorescent imaging. An endothelium-free TEBV exhibited the capacity to trigger platelet activation and aggregation in a shear stress-dependent manner, similar to the responses observed in vivo. Ketamine is commonly used as an anaesthetic in current in vivo models, but this drug significantly inhibited platelet aggregation on the injured TEBV. Atorvastatin was also shown to enhance EPC attachment on the injured TEBV. Although the CMR did hinder the dispersal of N. swinhoei, its ancestors may have dispersed to eastern Taiwan through the northern and southern low mountains of the CMR before the Riss glaciation. There is an increasing patient expectation for better esthetics, manifesting through anatomical harmony, projection, and volume of the upper lip relative to the lower lip, in patients with cleft deformity. The aim of this study is to investigate the outcome of vermilion augmentation using autologous dermofat graft (DFG) to enhance the lip using both quantitative and qualitative assessment.
Patients with secondary cleft lip deformity who received the surgical treatment in our institution from 2015 to 2018 were recruited. Panel assessment was performed on standardized preoperative and postoperative digital photographs. A patient questionnaire was used for the reported outcome. Image processing and analyses were applied to measure the lip change. Statistical analyses were performed.

Immunotherapy is increasingly used in the management of early and advanced malignancy. There is limited data regarding the associations between immunotherapy, malignancy, pain and haemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis.
A 40-year-old woman was diagnosed with advanced melanoma, with metastases to her brain, liver, lung, adrenal glands and bone. She had moderate opioid requirements prior to the initiation of therapy. Following doublet immunotherapy with nivolumab and ipilimumab, she experienced a severe pain crisis associated with pyrexia and haemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis.
Management dilemmas included whether or not to initiate non-steroidal and steroidal anti-inflammatory therapies, how to address the patient's nociceptive, neuropathic and inflammatory pain, and how to manage the haemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis.
The patient required rapid up-titration of analgesia, including methadone, ketamine, hydromorphone, pregabalin and benzodiazepines. Ketorolac and high dose steroid therapy were administered for pain management and to mitigate treatment associated inflammation and haemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis.
The patient's pain was inadequately managed despite multimodal analgesia, and stigmata of inflammation progressed. She died 14 days following treatment.

There is an increasing patient expectation for better esthetics, manifesting through anatomical harmony, projection, and volume of the upper lip relative to the lower lip, in patients with cleft deformity. The aim of this study is to investigate the outcome of vermilion augmentation using autologous dermofat graft (DFG) to enhance the lip using both quantitative and qualitative assessment. Patients with secondary cleft lip deformity who received the surgical treatment in our institution from 2015 to 2018 were recruited. Panel assessment was performed on standardized preoperative and postoperative digital photographs. A patient questionnaire was used for the reported outcome. Image processing and analyses were applied to measure the lip change. Statistical analyses were performed. There is limited data regarding the associations between immunotherapy, malignancy, pain and haemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis. A 40-year-old woman was diagnosed with advanced melanoma, with metastases to her brain, liver, lung, adrenal glands and bone. She had moderate opioid requirements prior to the initiation of therapy. Following doublet immunotherapy with nivolumab and ipilimumab, she experienced a severe pain crisis associated with pyrexia and haemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis. Management dilemmas included whether or not to initiate non-steroidal and steroidal anti-inflammatory therapies, how to address the patient's nociceptive, neuropathic and inflammatory pain, and how to manage the haemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis. The patient required rapid up-titration of analgesia, including methadone, ketamine, hydromorphone, pregabalin and benzodiazepines. Ketorolac and high dose steroid therapy were administered for pain management and to mitigate treatment associated inflammation and haemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis. The patient's pain was inadequately managed despite multimodal analgesia, and stigmata of inflammation progressed. She died 14 days following treatment. The case demonstrates that severe pain may be a consequence of immunotherapy given for advanced, high volume melanoma. Nationwide cancer risk from these pollutants is estimated by the U.S. EPA National Air Toxics Assessment. However, these model estimates are limited to the totality of the emissions inventory used as inputs, and further, they cannot be used to examine spatial and temporal trends in cancer risk from hazardous air pollutants.
To complement model estimates of nationwide cancer risk, we examined trends in cancer risk using monitoring data from 2013 to 2017 across the 27 U.S. National Air Toxics Trends Stations.
For each monitoring site, we estimated cancer risk by multiplying the annual concentration for each monitored pollutant by its corresponding unit risk estimate. We examined the 5-y average (2013-2017) cancer risk across sites and the population levels and demographics within 1-mi of the monitors, as well as changes in estimated cancer risk over time. Humans are exposed to mixtures of toxicants that can impact several biological pathways. We investigated the associations between multiple classes of toxicants and an extensive panel of biomarkers indicative of lipid metabolism, inflammation, oxidative stress, and angiogenesis.

Although some nanoplasmonic sensors may be useful in certain situations, it seems likely that conventional surface plasmon resonance will continue to dominate biomolecular interaction analysis. We then obtained stage-specific DETs to investigate the potential function of the fall armyworm during different developmental stages. We also constructed our annotation background set for Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) enrichment analysis. This indicated that the fall armyworm may undergo active metabolism during its lifespan, even in the chrysalis stage. And it also may experience detoxifying and xenobiotic metabolism throughout its life, especially in the larval stage, which partially explains the difficulty to eradicate using chemical control. Our study is the first insight into the developmental patterns of the fall armyworm and we also provide the fundamental information about enhanced drug resistance at the level of transcriptome. We also conducted an investigation on the relationship between the condensation coefficient and the molecular incident velocity from the vapor phase to the liquid phase. The dependence of the condensation coefficient on the incident velocity of molecules was confirmed, and the value of the condensation coefficient becomes small in the low-incident-velocity range. Furthermore, we found that the condensation coefficient in the non-equilibrium state shows almost the same value as that in the equilibrium state, although the corresponding velocity distribution functions of the incident velocity significantly differ from each other.
As COVID-19 vaccines become available, screening individuals for prior COVID-19 infection and vaccine response in point-of-care (POC) settings has renewed interest. We prospectively screened at-risk individuals for SARS-CoV-2 spike and nucleocapsid protein antibodies in a POC setting to determine if it was a feasible method to identify antibody from prior infection.
Three EUA-approved lateral flow antibody assays were performed on POC finger-stick blood and compared with serum and a CLIA nucleocapsid antibody immunoassay. Variables including antibody class, time since PCR, and the assay antigen used were evaluated.
512 subjects enrolled, of which 104 had a COVID-19 history and positive PCR. Only three PCR-positive subjects required hospitalization, with one requiring mechanical ventilation. The POC results correlated well with the immunoassay (93-97% sensitivity) and using serum did not improve the sensitivity or specificity.

We used quantitative PCR to profile Ace2 expression in germ-free ****, conventional raised specific pathogen-free ****, and gnotobiotic **** colonized with different microbiota. Intestinal Ace2 expression levels were significantly higher in germ-free **** compared to conventional ****. A similar trend was observed in the respiratory tract. Intriguingly, microbiota depletion via antibiotics partially recapitulated the germ-free phenotype, suggesting potential for microbiome-mediated regulation of Ace2 expression. Variability in intestinal Ace2 expression was observed in gnotobiotic **** colonized with different microbiota, partially attributable to differences in microbiome-encoded proteases and peptidases. Drug-related problem (DRP) is an event involving drugs that can impact the patient's desired goal of therapy. In hospitalized patients, DRPs happen during the whole process of drug use such as during prescription, dispensing, administration, and follow-up of their treatment. Unrecognized and unresolved DRPs lead to significant drug-related morbidity and mortality. Several studies conducted in different hospitals and countries showed a high incidence of DRPs among hospitalized patients. Despite the available gaps, there were scanties of studies conducted on DRPs among patients admitted to medical wards in Ethiopia. Therefore, this study assessed the magnitude of drug-related problems and associated factors among patients admitted to the medical wards of selected Southwestern Ethiopian hospitals.

The participants answered 14 questions; of the 401 participants, 55.2% agreed with the statement "TCM can be used for the prevention and treatment of COVID-19," 40.4% remained neutral, and 4.4% disagreed. Moreover, 75.3% agreed with the statement "There is no specific drug for COVID-19," 67% agreed with the statement "TCM can develop immunity to COVID-19" and 62.1% agreed with "TCM can alleviate the symptoms of patients with COVID-19." Meanwhile, 69.1% were aware that TCM has been recommended for COVID-19 by the National Health Commission of the People's Republic of China. We used quantitative PCR to profile Ace2 expression in germ-free mice, conventional raised specific pathogen-free mice, and gnotobiotic mice colonized with different microbiota. Intestinal Ace2 expression levels were significantly higher in germ-free mice compared to conventional mice. A similar trend was observed in the respiratory tract. Intriguingly, microbiota depletion via antibiotics partially recapitulated the germ-free phenotype, suggesting potential for microbiome-mediated regulation of Ace2 expression. Variability in intestinal Ace2 expression was observed in gnotobiotic mice colonized with different microbiota, partially attributable to differences in microbiome-encoded proteases and peptidases. The SARS-CoV-2 pathogen is currently spreading worldwide and its propensity for presymptomatic and asymptomatic transmission makes it difficult to control. The control measures adopted in several countries aim at isolating individuals once diagnosed, limiting their social interactions and consequently their transmission probability. These interventions, which have a strong impact on the disease dynamics, can affect the inference of the epidemiological quantities. We first present a theoretical explanation of the effect caused by non-pharmaceutical intervention measures on the mean serial and generation intervals. Then, in a simulation study, we vary the assumed efficacy of control measures and quantify the effect on the mean and variance of realized generation and serial intervals. The simulation results show that the realized serial and generation intervals both depend on control measures and their values contract according to the efficacy of the intervention strategies. Interestingly, the mean serial interval differs from the mean generation interval. The deviation between these two values depends on two factors. First, the number of undiagnosed infectious individuals. Second, the relationship between infectiousness, symptom onset and timing of isolation. Previous work in the classic model nematode Caenorhabiditis elegans has found that abiotic stress response is controlled by a handful of genes of major effect and that mutations in any one of these genes can have widespread pleiotropic effects on multiple stress response traits. Here, we find that acute heat stress response and acute oxidative response in C. remanei are polygenic, complex traits, with hundreds of genomic regions responding to selection. In contrast to expectation from mutation studies, we find that evolved acute heat stress and acute oxidative stress response for the most part display independent genetic bases. This lack of correlation is reflected at the levels of phenotype, gene expression, and in the genomic response to selection. Thus, while these findings support the general view that rapid adaptation can be generated by changes at hundreds to thousands of sites in the genome, the architecture of segregating variation is likely to be determined by the pleiotropic structure of the underlying genetic networks.

This article introduces the implementation of an innovative program, Play Intervention for Dementia, at a nursing home in Hong Kong, with emphasis on its contribution to the conceptual framework for understanding the selfhood of older adults with dementia.
As a community-based participatory action research project, this study democratized knowledge production by integrating voices of practitioners with diverse backgrounds through video-based methods.

To describe and compare measures of maternal depression, anxiety, and posttraumatic stress symptoms before and during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic in a Brazilian birth cohort.
All hospital births occurring in the municipality of Rio Grande (southern Brazil) during 2019 were identified. Mothers were invited to complete a standardized questionnaire on sociodemographic and health-related characteristics. Between May and July 2020, we tried to contact all cohort mothers of singletons, living in urban areas, to answer a standardized web-based questionnaire. They completed the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) and Generalized Anxiety Disorder 7-item (GAD-7) in both follow-ups, and the Impact of Event Scale (IES) in the online follow-up.
We located 1,136 eligible mothers (n=2,051). Of those, 40.5% had moderate to severe stress due to the current pandemic, 29.3% had depression, and 25.9% had GAD. Mothers reporting loss of income during the pandemic (57.2%) had the highest proportions of mental health problems. Compared to baseline, the prevalence of depression increased 5.7 fold and that of anxiety increased 2.4-fold during the pandemic (both p < 0.001).

Nitrous oxide (N2O) is also a NMDAR antagonist. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate the effects of augmenting antidepressant treatment with N2O.
This double blind, placebo-controlled randomized parallel pilot trial was conducted from June 2016 to June 2018 at the Hospital das Clínicas, Faculdade de Medicina de Ribeirão Preto, Universidade de São Paulo. Twenty-three subjects with MDD (aged 18 to 65, on antidepressants, with a score > 17 on the 17-item-Hamilton Depression Rating Scale [HAM-D17]) received 50% N2O (n=12; 37.17±13.59 years) or placebo (100% oxygen) (n=11; 37.18±12.77 years) for 60 minutes twice a week for 4 weeks. The primary outcome was changes in HAM-D17 from baseline to week 4.
Depressive symptoms improved significantly in the N2O group (N2O from 22.58±3.83 to 5.92±4.08; placebo from 22.44±3.54 to 12.89±5.39, p < 0.005). A total of 91.7% and 75% of the N2O group subjects achieved response (≥ 50% reduction in HAM-D17 score) and remission (HAM-D17 < 7), respectively. The predominant adverse effects of N2O treatment were nausea, vomiting, and headache.
N2O treatment led to a statistically significant reduction in HAM-D17 scores compared to placebo.

Malignant neoplasms are the leading cause of death in Korea. We aimed to examine if metformin use in cancer survivors reduces all-cause mortality. This study was retrospectively designed based on data from the Korean National Health Insurance Service-National Health Screening Cohort (HEALS) between 2002 and 2015. The Kaplan-Meier estimator and log-rank test was performed to estimate the survival function according to metformin usage (3721 metformin non-users with diabetes, 5580 metformin users with diabetes, and 24,483 non-diabetic individuals). Adjusted hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for all-cause mortality were calculated using Cox proportional hazards regression models.The median follow-up duration was 4.2 years. The HRs (95% CIs) for all-cause mortality of metformin users and the non-diabetic group were 0.762 (0.683-0.850) and 1.055 (0.966-1.152) in men and 0.805 (0.649-0.999), and 1.049 (0.873-1.260) in women, respectively, compared with metformin non-users among diabetic cancerwith diabetes reduced overall mortality rates. The stress level of undergraduates is increasing at an alarming rate. This study's objective was to determine the effect of critical thinking intervention (CTI) for stress reduction among undergraduates in Nigerian Universities.
This research used a pretest-posttest design. Participants were 103 undergraduates who had experienced a high level of stress. The Academic Stress Questionnaire (ASQ) and the Educational Stress Scale (ESSS) were the measures used for data collection in the study, while repeated measures analysis of variance was used for data analysis.
Before the intervention, assessment results showed that the stress level of participants was high, with no difference between those undergraduates in the treatment group and those in the no-treatment control group. After the intervention, the assessment results indicated a significant reduction in the undergraduates' stress level in the treatment group compared to those in the no-treatment control group. Further significant reduction was observed in the undergraduates' stress level in the treatment group compared to those in the no-treatment control group after follow-up assessment.
The authors concluded that CTI intervention was significantly effective for stress reduction among undergraduates in Nigerian Universities. Therefore, counselors are called upon to adopt the principle of CTI intervention to help patients under stress reduce their stress levels.

Pernicious placenta previa (PEPP) is a severe complication of late pregnancy, which might result in adverse maternal-fetal outcome. A number of studies have shown that to inhibit tumor growth, the TME can be remodeled into an environment unsuitable for tumor proliferation. However, a lack of understanding exists regarding the dynamic regulation of TME.In this study, we used CIBERSORT and ESTIMATE calculation methods from the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database to calculate the proportion of tumor infiltrating immune cells (TICs) and the number of immune and stromal components in 263 STS samples. Differential expression genes (DEGs) shared by Immune Score and Stromal Score were obtained via difference analysis. Univariate Cox regression analysis and construction of protein-protein interaction (PPI) networks were applied to the DEGs.Through intersection analysis of univariate COX and PPI, PLCG2 was determined as the indicator. Further analysis showed that PLCG2 expression was positively correlated with the survival of Scorrelated with PLCG2 expression, indicating that PLCG2 may represent the immune status of TME.Therefore, the level of PLCG2 may aid in determining the prognosis of STS patients, especially the status of TME. It has been revealed that CD109 expression is associated with prognosis in cancer patients, but it remains unclear thus far. Therefore, we performed a meta-analysis in the present study for a better assessment of the prognostic role of CD109 expression in cancer patients.
Eligible studies were collected through a search of the PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Scopus databases. The pooled hazard ratio (HR) with 95% confidence interval (CI) was evaluated to reveal the association between CD109 expression and overall survival (OS) in cancer patients.
Seven studies with 1583 patients were enrolled. The pooled HR with 95% CI was calculated as 2.31 (95% CI 1.93-2.76, P < .001), suggesting an association between high expression of CD109 and unfavorable OS in cancer patients.
This analysis indicated that CD109 expression could be used as a prognostic biomarker in cancer patients. This is the first meta-analysis to report the relationship between CD109 expression and prognosis in cancer patients.

Retinal capillary is vulnerable to diabetes, whether gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) eyes without clinical retinopathy have capillary abnormalities has not been well studied. To observe the microvasculature changes in eyes of GDM women compared with normoglycemic pregnant women and non-pregnant women by optical coherence tomography-angiography (OCT-A).

Thirty eight non-pregnant women (NC group), thirty pregnant women without GDM (PC group), and thirty one GDM women (GDM group) were included in this study. There was a significant reduction of vascular density in superficial capillary layer, but an increase in deep capillary layer in PC and GDM groups (P < 0.001). When in terms of the average vascular density, the difference was insignificant among these three groups. Although all the measurements were similar between PC and GDM groups, more capillary "dropout" changes were detected in GDM group. Unexpectedly, the abnormal changes of central macular thickness thinning and foveal avascular zone enlargement seen during pregnancy were improved when compared to PC group.

Community misperception on newborn care and poor treatment of sick newborn attributes to neonatal death and illness severity. Misperceptions and malpractices regarding neonatal care and neonatal complications are the leading causes of neonatal deaths in Bangladesh. The study was conducted to explore neonatal care's perceptions and practices and manage complications among Bangladesh's rural communities.
A qualitative study was conducted in Netrakona district of Bangladesh from April to June 2015. Three sub-districts (Upazilas) including Purbadhala, Durgapur and Atpara of Netrakona district were selected purposively. Five focus group discussions (FGDs) and twenty in-depth interviews (IDIs) were conducted in the rural community. Themes were identified through reading and re-reading the qualitative data and thematic analysis was performed.
Community people were far behind, regarding the knowledge of neonatal complications. Most of them felt that the complications occurred due to lack of care by the parents.ensure the quality of care for the newborns during complications. The communities still depend on traditional practices and the level of demand for facility care is low. Appropriate interventions focusing on these issues might improve the overall neonatal mortality in Bangladesh.

Additionally, we assessed a highly prevalent symbolic geriatric health condition, hearing loss, in 500 Chinese community-dwelling seniors. The Chinese NFA scale was developed following the translation-**** translation procedure, and the psychometric evaluation was performed by applying confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), exploratory structural equation ective and cognitive intrinsic motivation in Chinese individuals, particularly in seniors with hearing loss, compared with their American peers. These differences point to a potential challenge in framing effective messages for some cultures in the geriatric public health domain. Ideally, recognizing and understanding this challenge will inspire the consideration of novel persuasive strategies for these audiences.
