Tuberculosis (TB) affects one-third of the world's population and is the leading cause of human mortality and morbidity. Tuberculous meningitis (TBM) is the most severe type of extrapulmonary diasease. Medical treatment and nutritional management is the most efficient and cost-effective of all health interventions. In case A 25-y-woman presented with loss of appetite, fluctuating fever for two weeks, and loss of consciousness for 9 d. There was no history of headache, nausea, vomiting and neck pain. Physical examination shows signs of meningeal irritation, anemia, dermatitis in neck, armpit and ****, decubitus and limb paralysis. Laboratory examinations showed normocytic normochromic anemia, immune depletion, hypoalbuminemia, hyponatremia, hyperlipidemia and elevated liver transaminase. Nutritional therapy was given by enteral nutrition, contained of high protein and choline ONS (oral nutritional supplement), blenderized diet. Vitamin A, B complex, C, D, zinc, and cork fish extract as the source of albumin, immunonutrient such as fish oil was given as supplementation. After 35-d of treatment, there were increased of albumin plasma and lymphocyte level, accelerated wound healing, dermatitis, and functional capacity. Home healthcare visit and physiotherapy was conducted for about 1-month to support oral feeding from liquid to blenderized diet to porridge and improve cognitive and functional capacity. This report is intended to describe how nutritional support with transitional feeding to enhance adequate intake can accelerate wound healing, decrease morbidity and mortality rate in TBM patient.In Japan, the amount of vegetable intake in young adults, especially at breakfast, is low. The data of 1,455 male students who usually ate breakfast were analyzed. They were divided into two groups based on the median of the frequency of vegetable intake and the above factors were compared using a chi-squared test by living condition. The significant factors were subsequently entered into a logistic regression analysis as independent variables. Eating breakfast with family or friends and PBC were positively associated with vegetable intake in students living with their family. Often doing one's own cooking, having knowledge about a well-balanced diet, and PBC were positively associated with vegetable intake in students living alone. Along with PBC, different factors pertaining to an individual's living condition may need to be considered to increase vegetable intake at breakfast.The period of pregnancy and the first two years of children are called the golden period so that the adequacy intake of macro and micronutrients must be fulfilled. The result of the multivariate analysis showed that there was a significant association between dietary diversity of complementary foods and stunting while there was no association between the father's height and stunting. The lipid profile included total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein (LDL), high-density lipoprotein (HDL), and triglyceride collected before and after the study. After the 6-mo intervention, the rate of weight gain was higher in combination intervention group 1.51±0.68 kg than multi-biscuit group 1.40±0.72 kg, NE group 1.34±0.66 kg and control group 1.

Dual-energy CT (DECT) is an exciting innovation in CT technology with profound capabilities to improve diagnosis and add value to patient care. Significant advances in this technology over the past decade have improved our ability to successfully adopt DECT into the clinical routine. To enable effective use of DECT, one must be aware of the pitfalls and artifacts related to this technology. Understanding the underlying technical basis of artifacts and the strategies to mitigate them requires optimization of scan protocols and parameters. The ability of radiologists and technologists to anticipate their occurrence and provide recommendations for proper selection of patients, intravenous and oral contrast media, and scan acquisition parameters is key to obtaining good-quality DECT images. In addition, choosing appropriate reconstruction algorithms such as image kernel, postprocessing parameters, and appropriate display settings is critical for preventing quantitative and qualitative interpretive errors. Therefore, knowledge of the appearances of these artifacts is essential to prevent errors and allows maximization of the potential of DECT. In this review article, the authors aim to provide a comprehensive and practical overview of possible artifacts that may be encountered at DECT across all currently available commercial clinical platforms. They also provide a pictorial overview of the diagnostic pitfalls and outline strategies for mitigating or preventing the occurrence of artifacts, when possible. The broadening scope of DECT applications necessitates up-to-date familiarity with these technologies to realize their full diagnostic potential.The antimicrobial resistance crisis is a Global Health challenge that impacts humans, animals, and the environment alike. In response to increased demands for animal protein and by-products, there has been a substantial increase in the use of antimicrobial agents in the animal industry. Indeed, they are extensively used to prevent, control, and (or) treat disease in animals. In addition to infection control, in-feed supplementation with antimicrobials became common practice for growth promotion of livestock. Unfortunately, the global overuse of antimicrobials has contributed to the emergence and spread of resistance. As such, many countries have implemented policies and approaches to eliminate the use of antimicrobials as growth promoters in food animals, which necessitates the need for alternate and One Health strategies to maintain animal health and welfare. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/py-60.html This review summarizes the antimicrobial resistance crisis from Global Health and One Health perspectives. These two constructs have been extensively researched individually and jointly, but the existence of different profiles of problematic use according to the role a person assumes in the context of cyberbullying has not yet been explored. Therefore, the main aim of this study is to analyze the different PIU profiles of those who have been cybervictims, cyberbullies, and cyberbully victims. An analytical and cross-sectional study was conducted on 25,341 adolescents between 10 and 18 years of age (14.60 ± 1.68). The Cyberbullying Triangulation Questionnaire (CTQ) and the Spanish version of the Generalized and Problematic Internet Use Scale-2 (GPIUS2) were used. The results indicate that cybervictims (6.4 percent), cyberbullies (4.3 percent), and cyberbully victims (2.7 percent) have different profiles of PIU (p less then 0.001). Two common profiles emerge from the three roles one of nonproblematic use and the other of severe problematic use. Participants who presented severe problematic use are the ones who obtained higher scores in cybervictimization and cyberaggression, particularly in the case of cyberbully victims. Furthermore, this profile is 7.6 (IC99 percent6.11-9.44) times more likely to present PIU than noninvolved adolescents. These results are relevant when planning cyberbullying-focused interventions and programs because of the association between cyberbullying and general PIU.
Osteochondral defects, if left untreated, do not heal and can potentially progress toward osteoarthritis. Direct gene transfer of basic fibroblast growth factor 2 (FGF-2) with the clinically adapted recombinant adeno-associated viral (rAAV) vectors is a powerful tool to durably activate osteochondral repair processes.
To examine the ability of an rAAV-FGF-2 construct to target the healing processes of focal osteochondral injury over time in a large translational model in vivo versus a control gene transfer condition.

Standardized osteochondral defects created in the knee joints of adult sheep were treated with an rAAV human FGF-2 (hFGF-2) vector by direct administration into the defect relative to control (reporter) rAAV-
gene transfer. Osteochondral repair was monitored using macroscopic, histological, immunohistological, and biochemical methods and by micro-computed tomography after 6 months.

Materials and Methods Mental health clinicians were surveyed with 27 Likert questions, using previously validated measures, on satisfaction and implementation experience with video telehealth visits between March and June 2020. Results A total of 112 of 193 clinicians completed the survey (58.0%), including psychiatrists, psychologists, trainees (i.e., residents and fellows), advanced practice providers, and licensed mental health counselors. Clinicians reported high levels of acceptability, feasibility, and appropriateness of video telehealth; they also reported high levels of satisfaction with video telehealth visits. Seventy-nine and a half (79.5%) reported that their patients seemed highly satisfied with video telehealth visits, and 107 (95.5%) of clinicians responded that they would like video telehealth visits to represent at least 25% of their practice in the future.

The structure was acquired through a two-step method. Firstly, commercial multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MCNTs) were oxidized in a mixed solution of concentrated acid and modified with a couple of long-chain organic ions. Second, the above resultant product was carbonized at a high temperature. The achieved structure offers a 3D interconnected electrically conductive network as well as mesopore structure. It also significantly improves the specific surface area of MCNTs. Result of BET tests showed that the specific surface area of CNT-FLG reached to 2235 m2 /g. When acted as electrode materials in a supercapacitor structure, specific capacitance was approximately 531.2 F/g at a current density of 0.8 A/g. To inform the activity of the newly formed Radiology Academic Network for Trainees (RADIANT) regarding the current level of interest, engagement, and barriers experienced by UK radiology trainees to undertake research.
A web-based survey containing nine questions was sent to the UK radiology training programme directors for distribution to trainees. The survey was also distributed to all trainee members of the RADIANT network. This led to 224 responses over a period of 2 months.
A large proportion of respondents indicated a desire to participate in research in the next 12 months 72.3% (n=162). The most frequently reported barriers to research were lack of time (60.7%, n=136), lack of awareness of local/departmental opportunities (53.6%, n=120), and limited experience in research statistics (46%, n=103). The most favoured factor that would improve access to research was structured research training opportunities, qualified as a project with clear goals and timeline (71%, n=159), protected time for research (68.8%, n=154), and local or national trainee research networks (40.2%, n=90 and 37.1%, n=83, respectively).
Many radiology trainees would like to participate in research, but multiple barriers exist. The formation of RADIANT is seen as a key part of a multifaceted approach to improving access to quality research activity alongside support from local and regional training bodies.

No studies exist comparing various femoral artery cannula sizes in children on ECMO. We hypothesize that smaller arterial cannulas provide adequate flow in children while decreasing vascular complications.
We performed a retrospective review of the ELSO database from 2012-2017. We included children undergoing femoral venoarterial ECMO between ages 12 and 18 years and weighing more than 30kg. Arterial cannula sizes were grouped as 15-16Fr, 17-18Fr, 19-20Fr and ≥21Fr. Arterial pump flow, bleeding complications, limb ischemia, and mechanical complications were compared by cannula size. Distal perfusion catheter and percutaneous placement were also compared for complications.
A total of 429 patients were included with 28.2% 15-16Fr, 32.2% 17-18Fr, 22.8% 19-20Fr, and 16.8%≥21Fr arterial femoral cannulas. Median age was lower in the 15-16Fr group compared to the largest cannula group (14.7 years vs 15.5 years, p<0.01). The overall mean arterial flow was 57.4 +/- 17.0mL/kg/min with no difference in mean artizes may increase the risk of ischemic complications.
Composite resins are the most preferred filling material because of their excellent aesthetic qualities. However, a filling material should also be biocompatible as well as aesthetic. The aim of this study was to determine the serum and saliva bisphenol-A (BPA) levels and to examine the effects of serum BPA on reproductive hormone levels after healthy men were treated with composite fillings.
Eighteen healthy males each received 2 composite restorations. Saliva and blood samples of subjects were collected before resin application and 1 day and 1, 3, and 5 weeks after the resin was applied. BPA amounts in samples were detected using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Serum gonadotropins, testosterone, sex hormone binding globulin, free androgen index, and oestrogen levels were measured with radioimmunological assay kits. Statistical analysis of data was made using Friedman, Wilcoxon signed ranks and Mann-Whitney U tests (α = 0.05).
The amount of BPA released from composite resins over time was not significantly elevated in either saliva or serum (P > 0.5). In addition, serum BPA levels were significantly higher than saliva BPA levels for both composites (P < .05), but saliva and serum BPA levels were not statistically different when comparing the 2 composites (P > .05).

However, little is known about the molecular players that regulate mitochondria in neural circuits regulating anxiety and depression and about how they impact neuronal structure and function. Here, we investigated the role of molecules involved in mitochondrial dynamics in medium spiny neurons (MSNs) from the nucleus accumbens (NAc), a hub of the brain's motivation system.

Chemoradiotherapy (CRT) is the standard treatment for limited-stage small cell lung cancer (LS-SCLC), which can exert anti-tumor effects by regulating immune cells. Different immune cell subsets are associated with a specific sensitivity to CRT. The purpose of this study was to characterize the proportion or composition of peripherallymphocytes in patients with LS-SCLC before and after CRT, and evaluate their prognostic value.
A total of 98 patients with LS-SCLC were enrolled. The expression of CD3, CD4, CD8, CD45RA, CD45RO, CD38, CD56, and CD19 on the surface of peripheral blood cells was detected by flow cytometry and retrospectively analyzed. The relationship between the proportion of lymphocyte subsets, progression-free survival (PFS), and overall survival (OS) was evaluated using a log-rank test and Cox regression model.

However, limited data exists comparing the content of ethics consultations requested by specific hospital specialties. It remains unclear whether the scope of ethical dilemmas prompting an ethics consultation differ between specialties and if there are types of ethics consultations that are more or less frequently called based on the specialty initiating the ethics consult. This study retrospectively assessed the incidence and content of ethics consultations called by surgical vs. non-surgical specialties between January 1, 2013 to December 31, 2018 using our RedCap Database and information collected through the EMR via our Clinical and Translational Science Center. 548 total ethics consultations were analyzed (surgical n = 135, non-surgical n = 413). Our results demonstrate that more surgical consults originated from the ICU, as opposed to lower acuity units (45.9% vs. 14.3%, p ≤ 0.001), and surgical patients were more likely to have a DNR in place (37.5% vs. 22.2%, p = 0.002). Surgical specialties were more likely to call about issues relating to withholding/withdrawing life-sustaining treatment (p ≤ 0.001), while non-surgical specialties were more likely to call about issues related to discharge planning (p = 0.001). There appear to be morally relevant differences between consults classified as the "same" that are not entirely captured by the usual ethics consultations classification system. In conclusion, this study highlights the unique ethical issues experienced by surgical vs. non-surgical specialties. The purpose of this study was to characterize the proportion or composition of peripherallymphocytes in patients with LS-SCLC before and after CRT, and evaluate their prognostic value. A total of 98 patients with LS-SCLC were enrolled. The expression of CD3, CD4, CD8, CD45RA, CD45RO, CD38, CD56, and CD19 on the surface of peripheral blood cells was detected by flow cytometry and retrospectively analyzed. The relationship between the proportion of lymphocyte subsets, progression-free survival (PFS), and overall survival (OS) was evaluated using a log-rank test and Cox regression model. The median PFS was 12.3months and the median OS was 21.7months. Compared with the pre-treatment specimens, post-treatment lymphocytes had increased proportions of CD3 , CD3 CD8 , CD8 CD38 T cells, and NKT cells, and a decreased proportion of CD3 CD4 T cells, CD4 CD45RA T cells, B cells, NK cells, and CD4/CD8 ratio. However, limited data exists comparing the content of ethics consultations requested by specific hospital specialties. It remains unclear whether the scope of ethical dilemmas prompting an ethics consultation differ between specialties and if there are types of ethics consultations that are more or less frequently called based on the specialty initiating the ethics consult. This study retrospectively assessed the incidence and content of ethics consultations called by surgical vs. non-surgical specialties between January 1, 2013 to December 31, 2018 using our RedCap Database and information collected through the EMR via our Clinical and Translational Science Center. 548 total ethics consultations were analyzed (surgical n = 135, non-surgical n = 413). Our results demonstrate that more surgical consults originated from the ICU, as opposed to lower acuity units (45.9% vs. 14.3%, p ≤ 0.001), and surgical patients were more likely to have a DNR in place (37.5% vs. 22.2%, p = 0.002). Surgical specialties were more likely to call about issues relating to withholding/withdrawing life-sustaining treatment (p ≤ 0.001), while non-surgical specialties were more likely to call about issues related to discharge planning (p = 0.001). There appear to be morally relevant differences between consults classified as the "same" that are not entirely captured by the usual ethics consultations classification system. Magnesium-based alloy scaffold is a promising biodegradable stent due to its intrinsic mechanical performance and biocompatibility. Based on our preliminary experiments, we designed a novel sirolimus-eluting magnesium-based alloy scaffold. This work aimed to assess its safety and degradation performance in vivo.
The scaffolds were implanted in the lower limb arteries of Bama mini-pigs. Safety was defined as no immediate thrombosis or >30% residual stenosis, which was assessed with optical coherence tomography and digital subtraction angiography. Blood biochemical analyses were performed to evaluate hepatorenal toxicity. Consecutively consenting NSCLC patients and matched control subjects were recruited to provide samples of serum for miRNA and/or urine for metabolite analyses. Serum miRNA levels were measured using quantitative real-time reverse-transcription with exogenous control, and the comparative delta cycle threshold (CT) method was used to calculate relative miRNA expression of two targeted miRNAs (miR-21 and miR-223). The concentrations of six targeted urinary metabolites in patients and healthy controls were measured using proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR) spectroscopy. A composite methodology of using the 35 accruals with both serum and urine biomarkers was then established with binary logistic regression, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) models with or without artificial intelligence (AI).
The ROC analysis of miRNA expression yielded a sensitivity of 96.4% and a specificity of 88.2% for the detection of early stage NSCLC, with area under the curve (AUC) = 0.91 (CI 95% 0.80-1.0). All participants were users of Kræftværket, a youth support center and social organization for AYAs with cancer at The University Hospital Rigshospitalet, Denmark. Data were analyzed by using thematic analysis. Results The following themes were found. Conclusion The participants in this study experienced loneliness, anxiety, lack of psychosocial support, and lack of physical contact. Phase II included focus groups with nominal group technique in which providers ranked barriers to discussions about not initiating/withholding dialysis (NIWD) or discontinuing dialysis (DD). Many barriers cited were similar among providers, however, differences were related to fellows' position as trainees citing the "reaction of their attending/supervising physician or other providers" as a barrier to NIWD and "lacking their attending physician's support" as a barrier to DD. Angio-Seal is a commonly used device for femoral hemostasis in neuroendovascular procedures. This meta-analysis investigates of the safety and efficacy of Angio-Seal in patients undergoing endovascular neurointerventional procedures.
A systematic review and meta-analysis on all studies evaluating the Angio-Seal device in neurointerventional procedures from inception through 2020 were performed. We studied rates of groin hematoma, retroperitoneal hematoma, pseudoaneurysm, ipsilateral DVT, and ischemic complications. Meta-analysis was performed using the random-effects model.
13 studies were included in our analysis. 2250 patients with 104 complications were found 4.5% (95% CI, 2.7%-6.3%). Of these complications, groin hematoma was the most common with a rate of 2.4% (95% CI, 1.1%-3.6%). Retroperitoneal hematoma 0.3% (95% CI, 0%-0.5%), pseudo-aneurysm 0.5% (95% CI, 0.2%-0.8%), and ipsilateral DVT 0.3% (95% CI, 0.1%-0.7%) were also not in negligible rate. The rate of other complications were as follows vessel occlusion/stenosis; 0.2% (95% CI, 0%-0.4%), vascular surgery; 0.2% (95% CI, 0%-0.5%), and infection; 0.2% (95% CI, 0%-0.5%). One patient died as result of hemorrhagic complications 0.1% (95% CI, 0%-0.3%). Use of anticoagulant/antiplatelet therapy was found to be positively correlated with high risk of any groin complication and groin hematoma (p ≤ .05). A positive side effect of the lockdown period was the experience of getting a respite to recover physically and mentally after cancer.Background Not all treatments are appropriate for all individuals with kidney failure (KF). Studies suggest that conversations surrounding end-of-life decisions occur too late or not at all. Objectives The aim of this research was to identify perceived barriers to such discussions among nephrologists and nephrology fellows to determine if barriers differ by experience level. Design Phase I consisted of semistructured telephone interviews with nephrologists and fellows. Phase II included focus groups with nominal group technique in which providers ranked barriers to discussions about not initiating/withholding dialysis (NIWD) or discontinuing dialysis (DD). Setting/Subjects U.S. community-based nephrologists and nephrology fellows. Results Seven interviews were conducted with each group (n = 14) in phase I. Many barriers cited were similar among providers, however, differences were related to fellows' position as trainees citing the "reaction of their attending/supervising physician or other providers" as a barrier to NIWD and "lacking their attending physician's support" as a barrier to DD. Six focus groups were conducted, nephrologists (n = 22) and fellows (n = 18), in phase II. The highest ranked barrier to NIWD for nephrologists was "discordant opinions among patient and family"; fellows ranked "time to hold conversation" highest. Nephrologists' highest barrier to DD was the "finality of the decision (death)"; fellows ranked the "inertia of the clinical encounter" highest. Conclusions Capturing the perspectives of nephrologists and fellows concerning the barriers to conservative management of patients with KF may inform the development of targeted education/training interventions by experience level focused on communication skills, conflict resolution, and negotiation.Changes to wellbeing in a community-based sample of 638 adults with non-malignant chronic pain were assessed during a period of mandated lockdown measures in the UK to control the COVID-19 outbreak. Angio-Seal is a commonly used device for femoral hemostasis in neuroendovascular procedures. This meta-analysis investigates of the safety and efficacy of Angio-Seal in patients undergoing endovascular neurointerventional procedures. A systematic review and meta-analysis on all studies evaluating the Angio-Seal device in neurointerventional procedures from inception through 2020 were performed. We studied rates of groin hematoma, retroperitoneal hematoma, pseudoaneurysm, ipsilateral DVT, and ischemic complications. Meta-analysis was performed using the random-effects model. 13 studies were included in our analysis. 2250 patients with 104 complications were found 4.5% (95% CI, 2.7%-6.3%). Of these complications, groin hematoma was the most common with a rate of 2.4% (95% CI, 1.1%-3.6%). Retroperitoneal hematoma 0.3% (95% CI, 0%-0.5%), pseudo-aneurysm 0.5% (95% CI, 0.2%-0.8%), and ipsilateral DVT 0.3% (95% CI, 0.1%-0.7%) were also not in negligible rate. The rate of other complications were as follows vessel occlusion/stenosis; 0.2% (95% CI, 0%-0.4%), vascular surgery; 0.2% (95% CI, 0%-0.5%), and infection; 0.2% (95% CI, 0%-0.5%). Yellowtail muscle was sequentially sampled from each individual after the diet switch (0 to 753 days) and analyzed for δ15N and δ13C, allowing for calculation of diet-tissue discrimination factors (DTDFs) from two isotopically different diets (low δ15N and δ13C pellets; high δ15N and δ13C fish/squid) and turnover rates of 15N and 13C. Hepatosteatosis (HS) levels were measured by both CT and biopsy, while PS levels were measured by 3 different CT-based techniques. 89 (39%) of the patients were female and 139 (61%) were male. The mean body mass index (BMI) was 27.2 ± 4.0. Biochemical parameters were within normal limits. Liver biopsy showed a significant correlation with HS grade on CT scan (p 0.05). We used Fitts' law, predicting shorter grasping times (GT) for large compared to small objects, to investigate cTBS effects on two different grip types. cTBS induced long-lasting object-specific and dose-dependent changes in GT that remained present for up to two hours. High-intensity cTBS increased GTs for a power grip, but shortened GTs for a pad-to-side grip. Thus, high-intensity stimulation strongly reduced the natural GT difference between objects (i.e. the Fitts' law effect). In contrast, low-intensity cTBS induced the opposite effects on GT.

Hence, in this research work, a novel method to automate the process of identifying microorganisms has been implemented. To extract the bodies of microorganisms accurately, a generalized segmentation mechanism which consists of a combination of convolution filter (Kirsch) and a variance-based pixel clustering algorithm (Otsu) is proposed. With exhaustive corroboration, a set of twenty-five features were identified to map the characteristics and morphology for all kinds of microbes. We chose six polyphenols-(1) Naringenin, (2) Apigenin, (3) Kaempferol, (4) Hesperidin, (5) Ellagic Acid and (6) Oleuropein-present in Mediterranean foods, describing dietary source and their chemistry, as well as their pharmacokinetic profile and their use as nutraceuticals/supplements, in addition to the relevant element of their capability in modulating microRNAs expression profile.This review aimed to investigate the occurrence of mycotoxins, their toxic effects, and the detoxifying agents discussed in scientific publications that are related to pig production. Mycotoxins that are of major interest are aflatoxins and Fusarium toxins, such as deoxynivalenol and fumonisins, because of their elevated frequency at a global scale and high occurrence in corn, which is the main feedstuff in pig diets. The toxic effects of aflatoxins, deoxynivalenol, and fumonisins include immune modulation, disruption of intestinal barrier function, and cytotoxicity leading to cell death, which all result in impaired pig performance. Feed additives, such as mycotoxin-detoxifying agents, that are currently available often combine organic and inorganic sources to enhance their adsorbability, immune stimulation, or ability to render mycotoxins less toxic. In summary, mycotoxins present challenges to pig production globally because of their increasing occurrences in recent years and their toxic effects impairing the health and growth of pigs. Effective mycotoxin-detoxifying agents must be used to boost pig health and performance and to improve the sustainable use of crops.The main target for the future of materials in dentistry aims to develop dental implants that will have optimal integration with the surrounding tissues, while preventing or avoiding bacterial infections. In this project, poly(ether ether ketone) (PEEK), known for its suitable biocompa-tibility and mechanical properties for dental applications, was loaded with 1, 3, and 5 wt.% ZnO nanoparticles to provide antibacterial properties and improve interaction with cells. Sample cha-racterization by X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) as well as mechanical properties showed the presence of the nanoparticles and their effect in PEEK matrices, preserving their relevant properties for dental applications. Al-though, the incorporation of ZnO nanoparticles did not improve the mechanical properties and a slight decrease in the thermal stability of the materials was observed. Hemocompatibility and osteoblasts-like cell viability tests showed improved biological performances when ZnO was present, demonstrating high potential for dental implant applications.Gastroschisis and omphalocele reflect the two most common abdominal wall defects in newborns. First postnatal care consists of defect coverage, avoidance of fluid and heat loss, fluid administration and gastric decompression. Definitive treatment is achieved by defect reduction and abdominal wall closure. Different techniques and timings are used depending on type and size of defect, the abdominal domain and comorbidities of the child. The present review aims to provide an overview of current treatments.Wastewater-based epidemiology has become an important tool for the surveillance of SARS-CoV-2 outbreaks. However, the detection of viruses in sewage is challenging and to date there is no standard method available which has been validated for the sensitive detection of SARS-CoV-2. In this paper, we describe a simple concentration method based on polyethylene glycol (PEG) precipitation, followed by RNA extraction and a one-step quantitative reverse transcription PCR (qRT-PCR) for viral detection in wastewater. PEG-based concentration of viruses is a simple procedure which is not limited by the availability of expensive equipment and has reduced risk of disruption to consumable supply chains. The concentration and RNA extraction steps enable 900-1500× concentration of wastewater samples and sufficiently eliminates the majority of organic matter, which could inhibit the subsequent qRT-PCR assay. Due to the high variation in the physico-chemical properties of wastewater samples, we recommend the use of process control viruses to determine the efficiency of each step. This procedure enables the concentration and the extraction the DNA/RNA of different viruses and hence can be used for the surveillance of different viral targets for the comprehensive assessment of viral diseases in a community.
