We propose an accessible approach to analyzing complete ERP waveforms in terms of their underlying pERPs. First, we propose the principle ERP reduction (pERP-RED) algorithm for investigators to estimate a suitable set of pERPs from their data, which may span multiple tasks. Next, we provide tools and illustrations of pERP-space analysis, whereby observed ERPs are decomposed into the amplitudes of the contributing pERPs, which can be contrasted across conditions or groups to reveal which pERPs differ (substantively and/or significantly) between conditions/groups. Differences on all pERPs can be reported together rather than selectively, providing complete information on all components in the waveform, thereby avoiding selective reporting or user discretion regarding the choice of which components or windows to use. The scalp distribution of each pERP can also be plotted for any group/condition. We demonstrate this suite of tools through simulations and on real data collected from multiple experiments on participants diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. To understand the significance and the variety of roles played by this reversible modification, the function of ubiquitin receptors, which translate the ubiquitin signature into a cellular response, needs to be elucidated. In this study, we show that TOL (TOM1-like) proteins function in plants as multivalent ubiquitin receptors, governing ubiquitinated cargo delivery to the vacuole via the conserved Endosomal Sorting Complex Required for Transport (ESCRT) pathway. TOL2 and TOL6 interact with components of the ESCRT machinery and bind to K63-linked ubiquitin via two tandemly arranged conserved ubiquitin-binding domains. Mutation of these domains results not only in a loss of ubiquitin binding but also altered localization, abolishing TOL6 ubiquitin receptor activity. Function and localization of TOL6 is itself regulated by ubiquitination, whereby TOL6 ubiquitination potentially modulates degradation of PM-localized cargoes, assisting in the fine-tuning of the delicate interplay between protein recycling and downregulation. Taken together, our findings demonstrate the function and regulation of a ubiquitin receptor that mediates vacuolar degradation of PM proteins in higher plants. We found that both transgenic expression of P3 and RGSV infection induce ubiquitination and UPS-dependent degradation of rice NUCLEAR RNA POLYMERASE D1a (OsNRPD1a), one of two orthologs of the largest subunit of plant-specific RNA polymerase IV (Pol IV), which is required for RNA-directed DNA methylation (RdDM). Furthermore, we identified a P3-inducible U-box type E3 ubiquitin ligase, designated as P3-inducible protein 1 (P3IP1), which interacts with OsNRPD1a and mediates its ubiquitination and UPS-dependent degradation in vitro and in vivo. Notably, both knockdown of OsNRPD1 and overexpression of P3IP1 in rice plants induced developmental phenotypes similar to RGSV disease symptomss.

Small cats are more specialized than their larger cousins in terms of resource selection. Studies on small cat population and habitat preference are critical to evaluate their status to ensure better management and conservation. We estimated abundance of two widespread small cats, the jungle cat, and the rusty-spotted cat, and investigated their habitat associations based on camera trap captures from a central Indian tiger reserve. We predicted fine-scale habitat segregation between these sympatric species as a driver of coexistence. We used an extension of the spatial count model in a Bayesian framework approach to estimate the population density of jungle cat and rusty-spotted cat and used generalized linear models to explore their habitat associations. Densities of rusty-spotted cat and jungle cat were estimated as 6.67 (95% CI 4.07-10.74) and 4.01 (95% CI 2.65-6.12) individuals/100 km2 respectively. Forest cover and evapotranspiration were positively associated with rusty-spotted cat occurrence whereas both factors had a significant negative relation with jungle cat occurrence. The results directed habitat segregation between these small cats with affinities of rusty-spotted cat and jungle cat towards well-forested and open scrubland areas respectively. Our estimates highlight the widespread applicability of this model for density estimation of species with no individual identification. Moreover, the study outcomes can aid in targeted management decisions and serve as the baseline for species conservation as these models allow robust population estimation of elusive species along with predicting their habitat preferences.Nutritional Programming (NP) has been studied as a means of mitigating the negative effects of dietary plant protein (PP), but the optimal timing and mechanism behind NP are still unknown. The interviews were transcribed verbatim and analyzed using thematic analysis. Themes where evaluated for changes over-time and between participants with high/low treatment compliance. Interviews from 14 participants who had undergone at least five completed interviews were examined in more depths, aiming to establish typical strategy/training profiles. Results We identified 16 strategies covering four domains cognitive, physiological, emotional and unspecified. Typical of most strategies were that they served as a vehicle to regulate mental arousal. Overall, no clear patterns of changes over time were found. Highly compliant participants reported to use the strategies from the emotional domain and the strategy focus more frequently than neutral compliant participants did, while neutral compliant participants reported the use of the strhow brain activity regulating mechanisms drive training, individual response to NF, and how they are influenced by motivational factors. During its surgical resection, it is too friable for the surgeon to handle and it can bleed severely causing many problems to the surgeon. That is why many surgical approaches have been reported till now, aiming at total excision with minimal blood loss. In this case, total resection of an orbital haemangiopericytoma in a 61-year-old Caucasian woman, using an intraoperative 23G needle injection of 40% n-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate and 60% lipiodol, is presented. The lesion was directly injected under fluoroscopic visualization, after which it became firm enough to be surgically removed without significant bleeding.Background Little is known about the protective effect of spirituality on the association between known risk factors such as depression and quality of life (QOL) in stroke survivor-care partner dyads. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the moderating role of spirituality on the association between depressive symptomatology and QOL in stroke survivor-care partner dyads. Methods and results Longitudinal design with 223 stroke survivor-care partner dyads enrolled at survivor discharge from rehabilitation hospitals. Data collection was performed over 12 months. We measured survivors' and care partners' depression, quality of life, and spirituality. Examining the moderating role of spirituality on the association between depressive symptoms and QOL within survivor-care partner dyads, we used a traditional Actor-Partner-Interdependence Model and a basic Actor-Partner-Interdependence Model moderation model for a mixed variable. Survivors (51% male) and care partners (66% female) were 70.7 and 52.3 years old, respectively. The survivor's spirituality significantly moderated the association between care partner depressive symptomatology and survivor psychological QOL (B=0.03, P less then 0.05) and moderated the association between care partner depressive symptoms and care partner physical (B=0.05, P less then 0.001) and psychological (B=0.04, P less then 0.001) QOL. The care partner's own level of spirituality was significantly positively associated with their physical QOL (B=0.28, P less then 0.001). Conclusions The findings from this study have broad implications for the role of spirituality in relation to QOL in medical-health contexts and the importance of examining such concepts within a dyadic framework. We measured survivors' and care partners' depression, quality of life, and spirituality. Examining the moderating role of spirituality on the association between depressive symptoms and QOL within survivor-care partner dyads, we used a traditional Actor-Partner-Interdependence Model and a basic Actor-Partner-Interdependence Model moderation model for a mixed variable. Survivors (51% male) and care partners (66% female) were 70.7 and 52.3 years old, respectively. The survivor's spirituality significantly moderated the association between care partner depressive symptomatology and survivor psychological QOL (B=0.03, P less then 0.05) and moderated the association between care partner depressive symptoms and care partner physical (B=0.05, P less then 0.001) and psychological (B=0.04, P less then 0.001) QOL. These patients are at risk for a number of complications related to both their underlying disease states and the mechanical ventilation itself. Intensive monitoring is required to identify early signs of clinical worsening and to minimize the risk of iatrogenic harm. Pulse oximetry and capnography are used to ensure that appropriate oxygenation and ventilation are achieved and maintained. Assessments of driving pressure, transpulmonary pressure, and the pressure-volume loop are performed to ensure that adequate PEEP is applied and excess distending pressure is minimized. Finally, monitoring and frequent adjustment of airway cuff pressures is performed to minimize the risk of airway injury and ventilator-associated pneumonia. We will discuss monitoring during mechanical ventilation with a focus on the accuracy, ease of use, and effectiveness in preventing harm for each of these monitoring modalities.Clinical alarms, including those for mechanical ventilation, have been one of the leading causes of health technology hazards. A combination of factors can result in diaphragm weakness. Both insufficient and excessive diaphragmatic contractile effort can cause atrophy or injury, and recent evidence suggests that targeting an appropriate amount of diaphragm activity during mechanical ventilation has the potential to mitigate diaphragm dysfunction. Several monitoring tools can be used to assess diaphragm activity and function during mechanical ventilation, including pressure-derived parameters, electromyography, and ultrasound. This review details these techniques and presents the rationale for a diaphragm-protective ventilation strategy.Monitoring respiratory values such as breathing frequency, minute ventilation, breathing effort, and dyspnea are common in acute care. There is evidence that accurate monitoring and interpretation of these values leads to early identification and treatment of impending respiratory failure.   • Naphthalimides, such as amonafide and mitonafide in clinical trials, have been developed as antitumor agents for orthotopic tumor. However, the serious side effects in cancer patients limit their applications. Herein, a new class of polyamine-based naphthalimide conjugates 5a-5c, 7a-7b, and 11a-11b with and without the alkylation of the distant nitrogen in the polyamine chain were synthesized and the mechanism was determined. Compared with amonafide, dinitro-naphthalimide conjugate 5c with a 4,3-cyclopropyl motif preferentially accumulates in cancer cells and minimizes side effects in vitro and in vivo. More importantly, 5c at the dosage of as low as 3 mg/kg (57.97%) displays better antitumor effects than the positive control amonafide (53.27%) at 5 mg/kg in vivo. And a remarkably elevated antitumor activity and a reduced toxicity are also observed for 5c at 5 mg/kg (65.90%). The upregulated p53 and the apoptotic cells (73.50%) indicate that the mechanism of 5c to induce apoptosis may result from its enhanced DNA damage. Further investigation indicates that in addition to target DNA, 5c can modulate the polyamine homeostasis by upregulating polyamine oxidase (PAO) in a different way from that of amonafide. And also by targeting PTs overexpressed in most of cancer cells, 5c downregulates the contents of Put, Spd, and Spm, which are in favor of suppressing fast-growing tumor cells. Our goal was to demonstrate the feasibility of a pharmacist-led laboratory-supported intervention at Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and report on antimicrobial use and clinical outcomes associated with the intervention. Methods This was a single-center prospective quasi-experimental study conducted in two phases (i) an intervention phase (November 2017 to August 2018), during which we implemented weekly audit and immediate (verbal and written) feedback sessions on antibiotic prescriptions of patients admitted in 2 pediatric and 2 adult medicine wards, and (ii) a post-intervention phase (September 2018 to January 2019) during which we audited antibiotic prescriptions bue, Libman, Gedif Fenta, Yansouni and Semret.Understanding reciprocal relationships between specific arenas in life and at work is critical for designing interventions to improve workplace health and safety. Few data inform the achievability and impact of antimicrobial stewardship interventions, particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa. Our goal was to demonstrate the feasibility of a pharmacist-led laboratory-supported intervention at Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and report on antimicrobial use and clinical outcomes associated with the intervention. Methods This was a single-center prospective quasi-experimental study conducted in two phases (i) an intervention phase (November 2017 to August 2018), during which we implemented weekly audit and immediate (verbal and written) feedback sessions on antibiotic prescriptions of patients admitted in 2 pediatric and 2 adult medicine wards, and (ii) a post-intervention phase (September 2018 to January 2019) during which we audited antibiotic prescriptions bue, Libman, Gedif Fenta, Yansouni and Semret.Understanding reciprocal relationships between specific arenas in life and at work is critical for designing interventions to improve workplace health and safety. Most studies about the links between dimensions of well-being in life and at work have been cross-sectional and usually narrowly focused on one of the dimensions of the work-life well-being link. The issues of causality and feedback between life and work well-being have often not been addressed. We overcome these issues by measuring six aspects of well-being for both the work arena and life in general, using longitudinal data with a clear temporal sequence of cause and effect, and by explicitly accounting for feedback with potential effects in both directions. Nine hundred and fifty-four Mexican apparel factory workers at a major global brand participated in two waves of the Worker Well-Being Survey. Data on life satisfaction and job satisfaction, happiness and positive affect, meaning and purpose, health, and social relationships in life and at wors from this study may facilitate the development of novel workplace programs promoting working conditions that enable lifelong flourishing in life and at work. We evaluated genetic characteristics and response rates of infants with congenital brain tumors subjected to high-dose chemotherapy and autologous stem cell transplant after gross total tumor resection. Materials and Methods In total, 10 infants, aged less than 12 months, were enrolled in this study. The median age was 56 days (range 1-279 days).   • PURPOSE To understand whether two different designs of Haas-type rapid maxillary expander (H‑RME) might have a different influence on canine eruption. PATIENTS AND METHODS In all, 108 subjects seeking orthodontic treatment were selected and divided into two groups-H‑RME with bands on the upper second deciduous molars (GrE), H‑RME with bands on the upper first permanent molars (Gr6)-and were also compared to an historical untreated control group (CG) of 29 subjects. Panoramic x‑rays (OPG) were performed before and after RME (T0-T1 16 ± 7 months) and the upper canine angulation to the midline ("α" angle) was measured on both pre- and posttreatment OPG. RESULTS A significant improvement of the canine position (decrease of the α angle) following RME in subjects with mixed dentition was reported in both treated groups, although the different design of the RME did not significantly affect canine angulation. Canine angulation in untreated subjects with transversal discrepancy did not improve significantly. RESULTS CKD G3-G5 was associated with a lower risk of any subsequent non-hip fracture (HR 0.90, 95%CI 0.83-0.97), but not with the risk of subsequent major non-hip fragility fracture. CKD G3-G5 was associated with a higher mortality risk (cs-HR 1.05, 95%CI 1.01-1.09). Mortality risk was 1.5- to 3-fold higher in patients with CKD G4 (cs-HR 1.50, 95%CI 1.38-1.62) and G5 (cs-HR 2.93, 95%CI 2.48-3.46) compared to eGFR > 60 ml/min. CONCLUSIONS The risk of a subsequent major non-hip fragility fractures following hip fracture was not increased in patients with CKD G3-G5 compared to eGFR > 60 ml/min. Residents (n = 1,392,949) between 50 and 89 years and born in nine different geographical regions of the world were examined, and we computed age-standardized incidence rates for the different geographic regions-denoted ethnic groups in the paper. Gender-stratified Cox regression analysis, adjusted for age, was used to model risk of hip fracture as a function of region of birth. RESULTS Age-standardized incidence rates of hip fracture varied considerably between regions of birth living in Norway, in both genders. All immigrant groups had lower risk of hip fracture compared to the Norwegian-born population. Immigrants from Central and Southeast Asia had the lowest risk of hip fracture when compared to individuals born in Norway (HR = 0.2, 95% CI 0.1-0.3 and HR =0.2, 95% CI 0.2-0.4 in men and women, respectively). CONCLUSION Lower risk of hip fracture was found in all immigrant groups compared to the Norwegian-born majority population.

  • The expression of NADPH oxidases (NOXs) was assessed by qRT-PCR. Results Kidneys from early-stage diabetic **** showed evidence of lesion reversal four weeks after KTx, including decreased urinary albumin and reversal of histological changes. Methods Thirty-four patients with unilateral primary single-bundle ACLR and 18 healthy people were recruited. Patients were divided into anatomical reconstruction group (AR group; n=13) and non-anatomical reconstruction group (Non-AR group; n=21) according to Bernard Quadrant method. The ACL graft orientations on coronal and sagittal planes were measured on 3D models from medical images. The 6 degrees of freedom (DOF) kinematics of knees and range of motion (ROM) of 6 DOF kinematics were measured with a portable optical tracking system. The comparison of 6 DOF kinematics and ROM of 6 DOF kinematics were performed atics compared with non-anatomical ACLR. The aim was to analyze levels of PPi in patients having pseudoxanthoma elasticum (PXE), and controls as well as the enzymes who regulate the PPi plasma concentration. Methods We collected fasting blood samples from PXE patients and age- and sex-matched controls in ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA) and citrate-theophylline-adenosine-dipyridamole (CTAD) containing tubes. We measured PPi, ENPP1 mass and activity, alkaline phosphatase (AP) and tissue non-specific alkaline phosphatase (TNAP), CD73 and Human Platelet Factor-4 (CXCL4). Results PPi in EDTA and CTAD samples were lower in PXE subjects than in controls (1.11±0.26 vs. 1.43±0.41 µM/L and 0.35±0.15 vs. 0.61±0.18 µM/L respectively, P less then 0.05). TNAP and liver TNAP activities were also higher in PXE than in controls (80.3±27.0 vs. 63.3±16.4 UI/L and 25.6±14.9 vs. 12.9±9.2 UI/L respectively, P less then 0.05). ENPP1 mass and activity as well as CD73 were almost identical. There was a weak but significant inverse correlation between TNAP activity and PPi levels (Pearson correlation -0.379, P less then 0.05) in both groups. This study therefore aimed to investigate m6A RNA methylation and the expressions of the corresponding modulators in AAA. Methods A comparative study between AAA tissue samples (n=32) and healthy aortas (n=12) was performed using m6A methylation quantification for messenger RNA (mRNA) m6A status, quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR), and western blot for the expressions of m6A modulators and immunohistochemistry (IHC) to detect locations of the modulators in AAA tissues. Results The m6A level significantly increased in AAA as compared to healthy aorta tissues. Among AAA patients, the high m6A level represented an even greater risk of AAA rupture as compared to non-ruptured AAA [odds ratio (OR), 1.370; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.007-1.870]. The major N6-adenosine modulators, including YTHDF1, YTHDF3, FTO, and METTL14, are the main factors involved in aberrant m6A modification and the expression of both was significantly correlated to the proportion of m6A in total mRNA. Clinically, YTHDF3 represented an even greater risk of rupture (OR, 1.036; 95% CI, 1.001-1.072). Regarding the cellular location, METTL14 seemed to be associated with inflammatory infiltrates and neovascularization. Furthermore, a strong correlation was seen between FTO and aneurysmal smooth muscle cells (SMCs), YTHDF3, and macrophage infiltrate. Conclusions We were first to observe m6A modification in human AAA tissues. Results PPi in EDTA and CTAD samples were lower in PXE subjects than in controls (1.11±0.26 vs. 1.43±0.41 µM/L and 0.35±0.15 vs. 0.61±0.18 µM/L respectively, P less then 0.05). TNAP and liver TNAP activities were also higher in PXE than in controls (80.3±27.0 vs. 63.3±16.4 UI/L and 25.6±14.9 vs. 12.9±9.2 UI/L respectively, P less then 0.05). ENPP1 mass and activity as well as CD73 were almost identical. There was a weak but significant inverse correlation between TNAP activity and PPi levels (Pearson correlation -0.379, P less then 0.05) in both groups. This study therefore aimed to investigate m6A RNA methylation and the expressions of the corresponding modulators in AAA. Methods A comparative study between AAA tissue samples (n=32) and healthy aortas (n=12) was performed using m6A methylation quantification for messenger RNA (mRNA) m6A status, quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR), and western blot for the expressions of m6A modulators and immunohistochemistry (IHC) to detect locations of the modulators in AAA tissues. Results The m6A level significantly increased in AAA as compared to healthy aorta tissues. Among AAA patients, the high m6A level represented an even greater risk of AAA rupture as compared to non-ruptured AAA [odds ratio (OR), 1.370; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.007-1.870]. The major N6-adenosine modulators, including YTHDF1, YTHDF3, FTO, and METTL14, are the main factors involved in aberrant m6A modification and the expression of both was significantly correlated to the proportion of m6A in total mRNA. Clinically, YTHDF3 represented an even greater risk of rupture (OR, 1.036; 95% CI, 1.001-1.072). Regarding the cellular location, METTL14 seemed to be associated with inflammatory infiltrates and neovascularization. Furthermore, a strong correlation was seen between FTO and aneurysmal smooth muscle cells (SMCs), YTHDF3, and macrophage infiltrate. Conclusions We were first to observe m6A modification in human AAA tissues.   • Disease Gene Association finds genes that are involved in the presentation of a given genetic disease. We present a hybrid approach which implements a multi-objective genetic algorithm, where input consists of centrality measures based on various relational biological evidence types merged into a complex network. Multiple objective settings and parameters are studied including the development of a new exchange methodology, safe dealer-based crossover. Successful results with respect to breast cancer and Parkinson's disease compared to previous techniques and popular known databases are shown. In addition, the newly developed methodology is also successfully applied to Alzheimer's disease, further demonstrating its flexibility. Across all three case studies the strongest results were produced by the shortest path-based measures stress and betweenness, either in a single objective parameter setting or when used in conjunction in a multi-objective environment. The new crossover technique achieved the best results when applied to Alzheimer's disease. Interleaved rather than repetitive practice (RP) is associated with superior retention of motor skills. Enhanced offline gain following interleaved training resulted from rapid stabilization of performance within the first 6-h following encoding and overnight improvement that continued over multiple sleep episodes. Administration of anodal stimulation at SMA during RP improved performance during training compared to sham but this benefit was short lived as forgetting during the first 6-h after practice was consistent with that observed for the sham counterpart. However, supplementing RP with anodal stimulation at SMA did foster overnight offline performance gains not displayed by individuals that experienced RP in the absence of stimulation. Proximal protection devices used in carotid stenting (CAS) reverse the blood flow to the brain eliminating, at least after their deployment, the chance of cerebral embolism. Based on the working principle of these devices, we propose a new approach to CEA making use of a flow-reversal technique and we report its successful application in 2 high risk patient with a soft and friable type 4 ICA plaque; a 62 year old male patient presenting with crescendo transient ischemic attacks (TIAs) and a 61 year old male patient presenting with a major stroke. Both were operated in the acute period. Once reverse flow has been established, the surgeon can freely manipulate the carotid and perform a fast blunt dissection without the risk that the disturbance of the arterial wall may lead to cerebral embolism. A video recording of the procedure has been made and presented with this paper. Despite the various limitations, including increased clamping time, transient intolerance to reverse flow, and increased blood loss, this technique may improve clinical outcomes, especially in symptomatic patients with friable plaque. A clinical trial is warranted to further study the results of the flow-reversal CEA. Diamide resistant phenotypes have evolved in the field and the resistance has been attributed to target-site mutations in some lepidopteran pests. In this study, we documented the resistance status of Chilo suppressalis to chlorantraniliprole during 2016-2018 in seven provinces of China. To investigate the possible role of target-site mutations as known from lepidopterans, we sequenced respective domains of the RyR gene of C. suppressalis with different levels of diamide resistance. The results revealed that I4758M (corresponding to I4790M in P. xylostella), Y4667D/C (numbered according to C. suppressalis), G4915E (corresponding to G4946E in P. xylostella), and one novel Y4891F (numbered according to C. suppressalis) RyR target-site mutations were present. The contribution of these mutations was further investigated by diamide toxicity bioassays with eight genome modified Drosophila melanogaster lines. The study showed that genome modified flies bearing the Y4667D mutation (corresponding to the Y4667D and I4758M simultaneous mutation in C. suppressalis) exhibited high resistance ratios to chlorantraniliprole (1542.8-fold), cyantraniliprole (487.9-fold) and tetrachlorantraniliprole (290.1-fold). The M4758I and G4915E simultaneous mutations (corresponding to single G4915E mutation in C. suppressalis) showed high resistance ratios to chlorantraniliprole (153.1-fold) and cyantraniliprole (323.5-fold), and relatively low resistance to flubendiamide (28.9-fold) and tetrachlorantraniliprole (25.2-fold). These findings suggest that multiple point mutations in RyR confer diamide resistance of C. suppressalis. The results contribute to a better understanding of insect diamide resistance mechanisms and provide insights on the impact of RyR target-site mutations in insects. While tio acts redundantly with tsh, flies lacking tio function are viable without deleterious phenotypes. This gene pair is present in the genomes of all Drosophila species but only as a single homologue in several other insect species. In Oncopeltus fasciatus and Tribolium castaneum, tsh/tio has been functionally characterized as specifying the identity of the leg during the adult stage.   • Young men who have sex with men (YMSM) represent one of the most at-risk groups for HIV infection and experience sexual minority stress especially in high-stigma settings, which affects their psychological health and increases likelihood of HIV-risk behaviors. The HIV epidemic in China is increasing rapidly among YMSM. However, no evidence-based intervention has specifically targeted Chinese YMSM's minority stress to improve their mental and sexual health. Adaptation of evidence-based interventions to promote the mental and sexual health of YMSM is one promising way to achieve the global target of HIV epidemic control. The current adaptation study followed the Assessment-Decision-Administration-Production-Topical Experts-Integration-Training-Testing model. YMSM (n = 41) and key stakeholders (n = 16) in China provided feedback into the selected intervention, a cognitive-behavioral therapy called Effective Skills to Empower Effective Men, originally developed with efficacy in the United States. An open pilot (n = 8) was also then conducted. Qualitative and quantitative data collected from each adaptation phase were analyzed to form the adapted intervention "Yi Si Tang ()." Adaptations addressed a cultural context prioritizing family needs, limited support from the health system, as well as YMSM delivery preferences. YMSM and key stakeholders deemed the intervention acceptable and preliminarily feasible for the Chinese context. The pre-post comparison of mental and sexual health outcomes indicated improvement in mental health and sexual health of Chinese YMSM. Outcomes of the small initial pilot suggest future promise for this first-of-its-kind intervention for Chinese YMSM. It could be assumed that the trajectory of depression as assessed by self-report questionnaire measures would be characterized by a similar pattern. We aimed to evaluate this assumption and more clearly establish the longitudinal trajectory of depression in youth, when repeatedly assessed over time with a self-report questionnaire and with a diagnostic interview. Participants were 679 youth ages 7-16 years at baseline (Mage = 11.8, SD = 2.4, 56% girls). They completed the Children's Depression Inventory (CDI) every 3 months for 3 years (13 time points) and were interviewed every 6 months using the Kiddie Schedule for Affective Disorders and Schizophrenia (K-SADS) to ascertain onset of depression diagnosis. A series of growth curve models was fit to the CDI and K-SADS data. A piecewise model characterized growth in depression as assessed by the CDI, with an initial negative linear slope (b = -0.64) spanning the first 3 assessments, and a positive quadratic second slope (b = 0.015; linear component b = -0.22) spanning the remaining 10 assessments. Depression, as assessed by the K-SADS, grew continuously over time (a positive linear slope, b = 0.23). Findings illustrate differences between longitudinal trajectories of depression when assessed repeatedly by self-report questionnaire and diagnostic interview. Implications for research designed to study longitudinal depression trajectories are discussed. However, we report six experiments on children (N = 480) and adults (N = 211) showing that this principle may not apply for actions that benefit the owner-actions like repairing broken property. In Experiment 1, 3-5-year-olds judged it more acceptable for a nonowner to repair broken property than to move it. Experiments 2 and 3 replicated this with 4-6-year-olds using different question wordings and showed that children also approve of replacing broken property. Experiment 4 showed these findings replicate regardless of whether the nonowner and owner are acquainted. Finally, Experiments 5 and 6 revealed a boundary condition on approval of unsolicited beneficial actions Both 4-6-year-olds and adults judged repairing property more acceptable than modifying it to suit the owner's preferences.
