A total of 24 (25.0%) respondents had full-time jobs during the data collection, 51 (53.1%) had a part-time job, and 21 (21.9%) did not have a job. There was significant difference between times of day for positive affect, autonomy frustration, and competence frustration. This included an increase in positive affect from morning to afternoon, and reduction in autonomy frustration and competence frustration from afternoon to evening. Chronotype was not related to the daily variations in the studies psychological variables. Materials and Methods A total of 96 pregnant women having risk factors for GH were recruited for the study. The blood pressure variability (BPV), heart rate variability (HRV), plasma NO, marker of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR), lipid risk factors, inflammatory markers (hsCRP, interleukin-6), and malondialdehyde (MDA), the marker of oxidative stress (OS) were measured at 16th and 36th week. Link of various parameters to NO was assessed by correlation and multiple regression analysis. Results Of HRV indices, parasympathetic components were decreased and sympathetic components were increased, BRS was decreased, NO was decreased, HOMA-IR, lipid risk factors, hsCRP, interleukin-6, and MDA were increased significantly at 36th week compared to 16th week of pregnancy. Most of the markers of cardiometabolic risk were correlated with NO. However, only the markers of CV risk (SVI and reduced BRS) were independently associated with decreased level of NO, but not the metabolic markers except interleukin-6. The independent contribution of BRS (β = 0.334, P less then .001) to NO was found to be most significant. Conclusion It was concluded that decreased BRS, SVI, and increased interleukin-6 are associated with reduction in NO in GH, which may possibly be linked to the development of CV risks in GH.

For patients on whom guideline-driven measures have been tried, enhanced external counterpulsation (EECP) is the only truly noninvasive and safe intervention for which a reduction of angina symptoms and nitrate use, increased exercise tolerance, and improvement in myocardial ischaemia have been shown. The objective of this study was to demonstrate, by way of literature review, the efficacy of EECP as a treatment modality for the relief of refractory angina and improvement in quality of life in *** patients.

    This article reviewed the safety and efficacy of EECP in patients with refractory angina, by conducting a sweeping search and analysis of existing published literature.

    Critical review of a multitude of studies revealed that EECP consistently reduces angina pectoris, extends time to exercise-induced ischaemia, decreases dependency on nitroglycerine for frequent chest pain, increases maximum workload, and improves the quality of life in patients with symptomatic stable angina. The literature reviewed also indicated that EECP is well-tolerated by the vast majority of patients, with relatively few adverse events reported.

    Hepatitis B infection is a public health concern globally. HBV can be associated with type II diabetes mellitus, as HBV outbreaks have been observed among diabetics in healthcare facilities. This study evaluates the prevalence of HBV infection among patients with type II diabetes mellitus.

    A total of one hundred and eighty (180) diabetic patients and one-hundred non-diabetics (Controls) were recruited for this study. Structured questionnaires were administered to the consented participants to obtain relevant data. Sera samples obtained were screened using the HBsAg ELISA kit; CTK Biotech, Inc, while the 5 panel kit-rapid diagnostic test, was used to assay for serological markers. Questionnaires were used to obtain relevant information and demographic data.

    Overall prevalence of HBV infection among diabetes patients was 13.3%. Breakdown showed 9 (5.0%) seropositivity was obtained among male subjects compared to 15(8.3%) recorded among the females, P=.834; P<.05. Subjects aged 41-50years recorded, 7(3.9%) positivity P=.774; P>.05. Educational status of participants showed 22 (12.2%) positivity among subjects with tertiary level of education P=.032; P<.05). Risk factors considered showed that 5(2.8%).seropositive subjects were alcoholic consumers (P value=.9711; P>.05). The factors that influence these differences are not well described. The aims of this study are to compare CL-DIPJ sizes in equines with different withers height, as well as to correlate body weight and hoof size to the size of these ligaments. In total, 52 horses were used in the study. They were divided into two groups according to wither height Group 1 (G1) - 21 animals with up to 147 cm - and group 2 (G2) - 21 animals with greater than 148 cm. CL-DIPJ was ultrasonographically measured in order to find the mean of dorso-palmar (DPD) and latero-medial (LMD) diameters and the cross-sectional area (CSA). Hoof width and length were measured, and the results were used to calculate the hoof surface area. Withers height and body weight were also measured. Groups were statistically compared by Student's t test and Pearson's correlation application to each group. Groups were different in body size, HS and CL-DIPJ size when p less then .05, except for the LMD of the medial collateral ligament of left thoracic limb. Withers height and body weight did not show significant correlations to CL-DIPJ size in G1, but they had little influence on the size of CL-DIPJ on G2. No correlation between the hoof size and the CL-DIPJ was noted in any of the two groups. In conclusion, the CL-DIPJ were larger in taller horses and their sizes were correlated to their height and weight, but they were not correlated to hoof size.
    Topical application of polyoxyethylene/polyoxypropylene dimethyl ether (EPDME) random copolymer improves the barrier function of skin, whereas polyethylene glycol (PEG) and polypropylene glycol (PPG) are ineffective. The aim of this work was to examine the interaction between these polymers and lipid molecules in the stratum corneum in order to establish whether EPDME-specific changes in the structural ordering of lipids might account for the improvement of barrier function.

    We used two-photon microscopy to evaluate the effects of EPDME, PEG, and PPG on the structural ordering of lipids in an epidermal-equivalent model in terms of the fluorescence changes of Laurdan, a fluorescent dye that responds to changes of membrane fluidity. The generalized polarization (GP) value, a parameter that reflects lipid ordering, was measured at various depths from the surface of the stratum corneum.

    EPDME increased the GP value to a depth of about 3µm from the surface, indicating that lipid ordering was increased in this region, while PEG and PPG of the same molecular weight had no effect.

  • Bacterial spores are a major challenge in industrial decontamination processes owing to their extreme resistance. High-pressure (HP) of 150 MPa at 37 °C can trigger the germination of spores, making them lose their extreme resistance. Once their resistance is lost, germinated spores can easily be inactivated by a mild decontamination step. The implementation of this gentle germination-inactivation strategy is hindered by the presence of a subpopulation of so-called high-pressure superdormant (HPSD) spores, which resist germination or germinate only very slowly in response to HP. It is essential to understand the properties of HPSD spores and the underlying causes of superdormancy to tackle superdormant spores and further develop germination-inactivation strategies involving HP. This study investigated factors influencing the prevalence of HPSD spores and successfully isolated them by combining buoyant density centrifugation and fluorescence-activated cell sorting, which allowed further characterisation of HPS the germination capacity was lower than that of the initial population. The fact that the majority of spores lost superdormancy when exposed a second time to the same trigger makes it unlikely that there is one factor that determines whether a spore germinates with a certain HP treatment or not. Instead, it seems possible that there are other reversible or cumulative causes. This study investigated the factors influencing spore HP superdormancy to improve the understanding of HPSD spores with regard to their stability, germination capacity, and potential underlying causes of spore HP superdormancy.     Bacterial spores are a major challenge in industrial decontamination processes owing to their extreme resistance. High-pressure (HP) of 150 MPa at 37 °C can trigger the germination of spores, making them lose their extreme resistance. Once their resistance is lost, germinated spores can easily be inactivated by a mild decontamination step. The implementation of this gentle germination-inactivation strategy is hindered by the presence of a subpopulation of so-called high-pressure superdormant (HPSD) spores, which resist germination or germinate only very slowly in response to HP. It is essential to understand the properties of HPSD spores and the underlying causes of superdormancy to tackle superdormant spores and further develop germination-inactivation strategies involving HP. This study investigated factors influencing the prevalence of HPSD spores and successfully isolated them by combining buoyant density centrifugation and fluorescence-activated cell sorting, which allowed further characterisation of HPS the germination capacity was lower than that of the initial population. The fact that the majority of spores lost superdormancy when exposed a second time to the same trigger makes it unlikely that there is one factor that determines whether a spore germinates with a certain HP treatment or not. Instead, it seems possible that there are other reversible or cumulative causes.     Serum fibrosis scores comprised of common laboratory tests have high utility to assess severity of liver fibrosis. We aimed to derive and validate a hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) risk score based on serum fibrosis scores to predict HCC in treatment-naïve chronic hepatitis B (CHB) patients.

    Fifteen thousand one hundred eighty-seven treatment-naïve adult CHB patients were identified to form the training cohort in this retrospective study. Individual fibrosis score was included to construct a new HCC prediction score. The score was externally validated in an independent treatment-naïve Korean CHB cohort.

    180/15,187 patients (1.2%) in training cohort and 47/4,286 patients (1.1%) in validation cohort developed HCC during a mean follow-up of 52 and 50 months, respectively. The newly developed HCC risk score, Liang score, is composed of gender, age, hepatitis B virus DNA, fibrosis-4 (FIB-4) index, and ranges from 0 to 22. Area under the time-dependent receiver operating characteristic curve of Liang score was 0.79 (95% confidence interval, 0.70-0.89). A cutoff value of nine provided an extremely high negative predictive value of 99.9% and high sensitivity of 90.0% at 5 years in the validation cohort. Patients with Liang score ≤9 had HCC incidence <0.2% per year in both training and validation cohorts, in whom HCC surveillance might be exempted.

This case report demonstrates that orbital myiasis caused by C. bezziana poses a very real risk of intracranial invasion as they feed on living tissues. Adjacent tissue destruction can be very rapid and definitive treatment involves urgent removal of its larvae via surgical debridement. To our knowledge, we are reporting the first case of orbital myiasis from a patient in Malaysia. Therefore, our case report may be helpful in the management of similar case of orbital myiasis.We present a case of a 29-year-old male night watchman complaining of sudden decreased vision, redness, and tearing of the left eye. On anamnesis, trauma was denied and personal past history was relevant for right eye enucleation due to an "eye injury" 8 years prior. At presentation, his visual acuity was 20/200 and intraocular pressure (IOP) was 10 mmHg. Slit lamp examination revealed a 1-mm inferonasal corneal wound and a localized lens opacity associated with extrusion and posterior extension of cortical material in the same quadrant. Echography confirmed posterior lens capsular bag puncture with hyperechogenic material in the anterior vitreous. Intraocular foreign body was ruled out. Topical anti-inflammatory and cycloplegic treatment was initiated with partial visual recovery, IOP rise, moderate anterior chamber inflammatory reaction, and an emergent posterior subcapsular cataract. A pars plana vitrectomy and lensectomy were performed. After surgery and recovery, best-corrected visual acuity with contact lens was 20/15. The patient was followed for 6 years, during which he returned 6 more times with a variety of new findings, such as new corneal leukoma, leaking corneal wounds, hypotony, choroidal folds, and choroidal detachments, each time with full visual acuity recovery. Some cases of ocular injury and self-mutilation have been described in the context of various psychiatric disorders. Self-inflicted injuries were suspected due to substance abuse, although the patient denied doing so. Referral to a psychiatrist was insisted on several occasions without success. However, potentially life-threatening complications may arise; therefore, psychiatric referral is imperative.A 61-year-old man presented with corneal perforation of 1.0 mm in diameter in his right eye caused by a metallic foreign body fragment. We used the "one-bite mini-keratoplasty" technique, which uses a cornea patch with a single host-graft-host suture to stop aqueous humor leakage. Postoperatively, the graft was completely epithelialized. The suture was removed and the use of soft contact lens was discontinued. Postoperative best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) recovered to 180/200 and corneal astigmatism was 0.6 diopters. The postoperative course was unremarkable, but corneal perforation recurred due to an ocular contusion at 17 months. He was reoperated using the same technique. His BCVA was 160/200 and corneal astigmatism was 1.1 diopters after reoperation. Despite performing this surgical technique twice for corneal perforation, optimal visual function was maintained even after 2 years. For paracentral corneal perforations, our simple technique may reduce astigmatism and maintain high visual function.

However, the underlying mechanisms are not yet fully understood. Therefore, we investigated whether the mechanisms underlying of the anti-apoptotic effects of G-CSF were associated with autophagy using a rat model of diabetic cardiomyopathy.

    Diabetic cardiomyopathy was induced in rats through a high-fat diet combined with low-dose streptozotocin and the rats were then treated with G-CSF for 5 days. Rat H9c2 cardiac cells were cultured under high glucose conditions as an in vitro model of diabetic cardiomyopathy. The extent of apoptosis and protein levels related to autophagy (Beclin-1, microtubule-binding protein light chain 3 [LC3]-II/LC3-I ratio, and P62) were determined for both models. Autophagy determination was performed using an Autophagy Detection kit.

    Diverse disciplines in biology process and analyze multiple sequence alignments (MSAs) and phylogenetic trees to evaluate their information content, infer evolutionary events and processes, and predict gene function. However, automated processing of MSAs and trees remains a challenge due to the lack of a unified toolkit. To fill this gap, we introduce PhyKIT, a toolkit for the UNIX shell environment with 30 functions that process MSAs and trees, including but not limited to estimation of mutation rate, evaluation of sequence composition biases, calculation of the degree of violation of a molecular clock, and collapsing bipartitions (internal branches) with low support.

    To demonstrate the utility of PhyKIT, we detail three use cases (1) summarizing information content in MSAs and phylogenetic trees for diagnosing potential biases in sequence or tree data; (2) evaluating gene-gene covariation of evolutionary rates to identify functional relationships, including novel ones, among genes; and (3) identify lack of resolution events or polytomies in phylogenetic trees, which are suggestive of rapid radiation events or lack of data. We anticipate PhyKIT will be useful for processing, examining, and deriving biological meaning from increasingly large phylogenomic datasets.

As an important type of PRRs, C-type lectins (CTLs) play various roles in insect innate immunity, including pathogen recognition, stimulation of prophenoloxidase, regulation of cellular immunity and so on. In this study, we have cloned the full-length cDNA of a CTL gene named CTL-S6 from the silkworm, Bombyx mori. The open reading frame (ORF) of B. mori CTL-S6 encodes 378 amino acids, which contain a secretion signal peptide. The mRNA of CTL-S6 exhibited the highest transcriptional level in the midgut. Its transcriptional level increased dramatically in fat body and hemocytes upon Escherichia coli or Micrococcus luteus challenge. Purified recombinant CTL-S6 could bind to bacterial cell wall components, including peptidoglycan (PGN, from Bacillus subtilis) and lipopolysaccharide (LPS, from E. coli 0111B4), and recombinant CTL-S6 was involved in the encapsulation and melanization of hemocytes. Diverse disciplines in biology process and analyze multiple sequence alignments (MSAs) and phylogenetic trees to evaluate their information content, infer evolutionary events and processes, and predict gene function. However, automated processing of MSAs and trees remains a challenge due to the lack of a unified toolkit. To fill this gap, we introduce PhyKIT, a toolkit for the UNIX shell environment with 30 functions that process MSAs and trees, including but not limited to estimation of mutation rate, evaluation of sequence composition biases, calculation of the degree of violation of a molecular clock, and collapsing bipartitions (internal branches) with low support. To demonstrate the utility of PhyKIT, we detail three use cases (1) summarizing information content in MSAs and phylogenetic trees for diagnosing potential biases in sequence or tree data; (2) evaluating gene-gene covariation of evolutionary rates to identify functional relationships, including novel ones, among genes; and (3) identify lack of resolution events or polytomies in phylogenetic trees, which are suggestive of rapid radiation events or lack of data. We anticipate PhyKIT will be useful for processing, examining, and deriving biological meaning from increasingly large phylogenomic datasets. As an important type of PRRs, C-type lectins (CTLs) play various roles in insect innate immunity, including pathogen recognition, stimulation of prophenoloxidase, regulation of cellular immunity and so on. In this study, we have cloned the full-length cDNA of a CTL gene named CTL-S6 from the silkworm, Bombyx mori. The open reading frame (ORF) of B. mori CTL-S6 encodes 378 amino acids, which contain a secretion signal peptide. The mRNA of CTL-S6 exhibited the highest transcriptional level in the midgut. Its transcriptional level increased dramatically in fat body and hemocytes upon Escherichia coli or Micrococcus luteus challenge. Purified recombinant CTL-S6 could bind to bacterial cell wall components, including peptidoglycan (PGN, from Bacillus subtilis) and lipopolysaccharide (LPS, from E. coli 0111B4), and recombinant CTL-S6 was involved in the encapsulation and melanization of hemocytes. We present the Tree Hydraulics and Optimal Resource Partitioning (THORP) model, which optimizes allometry by estimating allocation fractions to organs as proportional to their ratio of marginal gain to marginal cost, where gain is net canopy photosynthesis rate, and costs are senescence rates. Root total biomass and profile shape are predicted simultaneously by a unified optimization. Optimal partitioning is solved by a numerically efficient analytical solution. THORP's predictions agree with reported tree biomass partitioning in response to size, water limitations, elevated CO2 and pruning. Roots were sensitive to soil moisture profiles and grew down to the groundwater table when present. Groundwater buffered against water stress regardless of meteorology, stabilizing allometry and root profiles as deep as c. 30 m. **** of plant allometry can be explained by hydraulic considerations. We aimed to develop and validate an up-to-date liver cancer risk prediction model with routinely available predictors and evaluate its applicability for screening guidance. Using data from the China Kadoorie Biobank, we included 486 285 participants in this analysis. Fifteen risk factors were included in the model. Flexible parametric survival models were used to estimate the 10-year absolute risk of liver cancer. Decision curve analysis was performed to evaluate the net benefit of the model to quantify clinical utility. A total of 2706 participants occurred liver cancer over the 4 814 320 person-years of follow-up. Excellent discrimination of the model was observed in both development and validation datasets, with c-statistics (95% CI) of 0.80 (0.79-0.81) and 0.80 (0.78-0.82) respectively, as well as excellent calibration of observed and predicted risks. Decision curve analysis revealed that use of the model in selecting participants for screening improved benefit at a threshold of 2% 10-year risk, compared to current guideline of screening all HBsAg carriers. Our model was more sensitive than current guideline for cancer screening (28.17% vs 25.96%). We developed and validated a CKB-PLR (Prediction for Liver cancer Risk Based on the China Kadoorie Biobank Study) model to predict the absolute risk of liver cancer for both HBsAg seropositive and seronegative populations. Application of the model is beneficial for precisely identifying the high-risk groups among the general population.Children, mothers, and fathers in 12 ethnic and regional groups in nine countries (N = 1,338 families) were interviewed annually for 8 years (Mage child = 8-16 years) to model four domains of parenting as a function of child age, puberty, or both.   • A new efficient method was proposed for the synthesis of (18-crown-6)stilbene; the structure of the product was confirmed by X-ray diffraction analysis. In ****, this compound forms pseudodimeric complexes with N-(2-ammonioethyl)-4-styrylpyridinium and N-(3-ammoniopropyl)-4-styrylpyridinium diperchlorates via hydrogen bonding between the ammonium group and the crown ether oxygen atoms. The ammonioethyl derivative was synthesized for the first time. The stability constants and spectral characteristics of the complexes were measured by spectrophotometric and fluorescence titration. Photoirradiation of the pseudodimeric complex of (18-crown-6)stilbene with the ammoniopropyl dye resulted in the stereospecific [2 + 2] cross-photocycloaddition reaction. https://www.selleckchem.com/ALK.html The replacement of the stilbene moiety in the crown compound by a styrylpyridine moiety led to a 5-fold increase in the quantum yield of the photoprocess. Herein, an up-to-date review is provided on the recent advancements of bioinspired IR adaptive materials and their promising applications. First an overview of IR adaptation in nature and advanced artificial IR technologies is presented. Recent endeavors are then introduced toward developing bioinspired adaptive materials for IR camouflage and IR radiative cooling. According to the Stefan-Boltzmann law, IR camouflage can be realized by either emissivity engineering or thermal cloaks. IR radiative cooling can maximize the thermal radiation of an object through an IR atmospheric transparency window, and thus holds great potential for use in energy-efficient green buildings and smart personal thermal management systems. Recent advances in bioinspired adaptive materials for emerging near-IR (NIR) applications are also discussed, including NIR-triggered biological technologies, NIR light-fueled soft robotics, and NIR light-driven supramolecular nanosystems. This review concludes with a perspective on the challenges and opportunities for the future development of bioinspired IR adaptive materials.

Do all these subsystems covary when responding to auditory stimulation, suggesting a unified locus of control, or do they not covary, suggesting independent loci of control for these physiological responses? In vivo experimental pharmacology profile of ClPs against arthritis and related complications revealed that oral administration of ClPs significantly reduced the arthritis score and arthritis index in elbow and knee joints against collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) in rats. Biochemical parameters include pro-inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-17A), and C-RP level in blood serum of CIA rats further confirmed the anti-arthritic profile of ClPs. Further individual experiments related to arthritis-related complications in experimental animals demonstrated the analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antipyretic potential of ClPs in dose-dependent manner. Temperature rises at the wetting front of water and binary mixtures with organic solvents are found to be over 10 K with an ultrafast and distinguishable thermal signal response ( less then 1 s) with a detectable concentration limit ≤1 wt%. As an advancement to the state-of-the-art in trace-solvent detection technologies, this study shows great prospects for the integration of SURMOFs in future sensor devices. Inspired by this prototypal study, SURMOF-based transient heat signal transduction is likely to be extended to an ever-expanding library of SURMOFs and other classes of surface-grafted porous materials, translating into a wide range of convenient, portable, and ubiquitous sensor devices.

This version was then psychometrically tested in 115 CR patients in two Canadian provinces (Qué****and New Brunswick). The questionnaire was completed at patients' first CR session and in the end of their 6-month program to assess interpretability. The internal consistency was assessed using Kuder-Richardson-20 (KR-20) and Cronbach's alpha, factor structure using confirmatory factor analysis, and criterion validity regarding level of education and family income.

    The aim of this study was to explore narrative domains of family caregivers' emotional experiences, beyond intentional and explicitly reported contents, and to examine their associations with subjects defining characteristics, such as gender, kinship, duration of caregiving, and burden levels.

    The study participants were 17 Italian family caregivers (88.23% women) with a mean age of 59.14years (
    = 7.76), who provided their loved ones affected by dementia with in-home care. Structured interviews and Caregiver Burden Inventory were administered according to a mixed method design. A computer-aided text analysis was used which allowed the detection of shared narrative domains (cluster analysis) and latent factors organizing the contraposition between them (multiple correspondence analysis).

    Five narrative domains emerged which were respectively referred to as perceived formal support (14.38% of the overall textual corpus), devotion (33.56%), anger (13.70%), sense of loss (18.49%), and feeling of uncertainty (19.86%). Kinship, duration of caregiving, and burden levels were differently associated with such domains. Two latent factors dealing with feelings of guilt and ambivalence explained 62.92% of overall data variance.

    Guilt feelings should be carefully taken into account in support intervention with caregivers, with specific regard to stress and anger management.     To report our anatomical outcome with the internal limiting membrane (ILM) graft procedure in the management of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) secondary to optic disc coloboma (ODC).

    Description of a new surgical procedure in one eye of one patient who underwent pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) combined with ILM graft technique. Subsequent follow-up included optical coherence tomography (OCT) and visual acuity.

    After only 1 week, the OCT revealed the ILM graft plugging the retinal tear with complete resorption of subretinal fluid. The sealing effect of this graft persisted after 6 months. However, visual outcome was poor and corrected distance visual acuity was 20/200 as a result of the previous long-standing retinal detachment with loss of photoreceptors.

    We suggest that ILM graft could be performed as a first line treatment in the management of RRD secondary to ODC. This direct closure of the retinal tears, allows a quick and effective interruption of the communication between the subretinal space and the vitreous cavity.

The aim of this study was to explore narrative domains of family caregivers' emotional experiences, beyond intentional and explicitly reported contents, and to examine their associations with subjects defining characteristics, such as gender, kinship, duration of caregiving, and burden levels. The study participants were 17 Italian family caregivers (88.23% women) with a mean age of 59.14years ( = 7.76), who provided their loved ones affected by dementia with in-home care. Structured interviews and Caregiver Burden Inventory were administered according to a mixed method design. A computer-aided text analysis was used which allowed the detection of shared narrative domains (cluster analysis) and latent factors organizing the contraposition between them (multiple correspondence analysis). Five narrative domains emerged which were respectively referred to as perceived formal support (14.38% of the overall textual corpus), devotion (33.56%), anger (13.70%), sense of loss (18.49%), and feeling of uncertainty (19.86%). Kinship, duration of caregiving, and burden levels were differently associated with such domains. Two latent factors dealing with feelings of guilt and ambivalence explained 62.92% of overall data variance. Guilt feelings should be carefully taken into account in support intervention with caregivers, with specific regard to stress and anger management. To report our anatomical outcome with the internal limiting membrane (ILM) graft procedure in the management of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) secondary to optic disc coloboma (ODC). Description of a new surgical procedure in one eye of one patient who underwent pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) combined with ILM graft technique. Subsequent follow-up included optical coherence tomography (OCT) and visual acuity. After only 1 week, the OCT revealed the ILM graft plugging the retinal tear with complete resorption of subretinal fluid. The sealing effect of this graft persisted after 6 months. However, visual outcome was poor and corrected distance visual acuity was 20/200 as a result of the previous long-standing retinal detachment with loss of photoreceptors. We suggest that ILM graft could be performed as a first line treatment in the management of RRD secondary to ODC. This direct closure of the retinal tears, allows a quick and effective interruption of the communication between the subretinal space and the vitreous cavity.
