Durum wheat (Triticum turgidum L. ssp. durum) is a minor crop grown on about 17 million hectares of land worldwide. Several grain characteristics determine semolina's high end-use quality, such as grain protein content (GPC) which is directly related to the final products' nutritional and technological values. GPC improvement could be pursued by considering a candidate gene approach. The glutamine synthetase (GS)/glutamate synthase (GOGAT) cycle represents a bottleneck in the first step of nitrogen assimilation. (2) Methods The study is based on a miners' cohort with longitudinal data on lung function and RCS exposure. Random-effects linear regression models, allowing for a possible threshold concerning the exposure concentration were used to analyze the impact of RCS on the ratio of forced expiratory volume in 1 s and forced vital capacity (FEV1/FVC). The proposed threshold is the amount of RCS resulting in a decrease in FEV1/FVC from the expected value to the lower limit of normal. (3) Results The analysis shows that a threshold model fits the data significantly better than the usual linear model. The estimated threshold value for the exposure concentration is 0.089 mg/m3. Using this threshold, the estimate for the corresponding reference dose for RCS is 2.33 mg/m3·y. (4) Conclusions The analysis confirmed that RCS has a negative impact on lung function. The effect is primarily due to exposure above a concentration threshold of 0.1 mg/m3. It is recommended that COPD should be compensated as an occupational disease if cumulative exposure was at least 2 mg/m3·y above this threshold.
The rapid onset of a systemic pro-inflammatory state followed by acute respiratory distress syndrome is the leading cause of mortality in patients with COVID-19. We performed a retrospective observational study to explore the capacity of different complete blood cell count (CBC)-derived inflammation indexes to predict in-hospital mortality in this group.
The neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR), derived NLR (dNLR), platelet to lymphocyte ratio (PLR), mean platelet volume to platelet ratio (MPR), neutrophil to lymphocyte × platelet ratio (NLPR), monocyte to lymphocyte ratio (MLR), systemic inflammation response index (SIRI), systemic inflammation index (SII), and the aggregate index of systemic inflammation (AISI) were calculated on hospital admission in 119 patients with laboratory confirmed COVID-19.
Non-survivors had significantly higher AISI, dNLR, NLPR, NLR, SII, and SIRI values when compared to survivors. Similarly, Kaplan-Meier survival curves showed significantly lower survival in patients with higher AISI, dNLR, MLR, NLPR, NLR, SII, and SIRI. However, after adjusting for confounders, only the SII remained significantly associated with survival (HR = 1.0001; 95% CI, 1.0000-1.0001,
= 0.029) in multivariate Cox regression analysis.

Their socio-demographic characteristics, lifestyle, level of physical activity, type of food, substance abuse, and prevalence of overweight and obesity were ascertained using purpose-validated questionnaires, i.e., the Systematic Alcohol Consumption Interview (Interrogatorio Sistematizado de Consumos Alcohólicos/ISCA), a questionnaire on the frequency of dietary intake (CFCA), the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ), and anthropometric measurements. The prevalence of overweight (body mass index (BMI) of 25.0-29.9 kg/m2) was 26.5% (95% CI = 19.9-33.0%) and that of obesity (BMI ≥ 30.0 kg/m2) was 7.9% (95% CI = 3.8-12.1%). A total of 34.4% of students (95% CI = 27.4-41.4%) presented with a BMI > 25 kg/m2. The frequency of overweight was significantly higher in persons aged over 20 years (OR = 2.5) and smokers (OR = 3.2), and the frequency of obesity was significantly higher in older students (OR = 4.1) and males (OR = 5.5). In conclusion, a considerable proportion of health sciences students in the Amazonia region presented with a high BMI. The proportion of students with overweight was higher among students aged over 20 years and smokers, while that of obesity was also higher among males. In the university setting, the development of more overweight- and obesity-preventive activities and educational interventions would therefore be desirable.Despite being introduced in clinical practice more than 20 years ago, selection criteria for deep brain stimulation (DBS) in Parkinson's disease (PD) rely on a document published in 1999 called 'Core Assessment Program for Surgical Interventional Therapies in Parkinson's Disease'. We describe the use of Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography/Computed Tomography (SPECT/CT) in the investigation and diagnosis of Charcot neuroarthropathy (CN) in patients with a hot swollen foot but normal radiographs and clinical suspicion of CN, usually termed Stage 0. This was a retrospective cohort review of 46 diabetes patients who underwent 3 phase bone scintigraphy with "High Resolution" SPECT/CT. The imaging demonstrated that Stage 0 Charcot foot has a distinct bone pathology, which can be classified into three groups (1) fractures on Computed Tomography (CT) with accompanying focal uptake of tracer on SPECT, (2) bony abnormalities apart from fracture on CT with focal uptake of tracer on SPECT, and (3) normal CT but focal bony uptake of tracer on SPECT. One strategy to improve the delivery of antioxidants to the brain involves the use of the so-called nose-to-brain route, with the administration of the antioxidant in specific nasal formulations and its passage to the central nervous system (CNS) mainly through the olfactory nerve way. In the current literature, many examples show encouraging results in studies carried out in cell cultures and in animal models about the potential neuroprotective effects of antioxidants when administered through the nose. This review concerns the nose-to-brain route for the brain targeting of antioxidants as a potential tool for the therapy of neurological diseases.Recent progress realized in the development of optical imaging (OPI) probes and devices has made this technique more and more affordable for imaging studies and fluorescence-guided surgery procedures. However, this imaging modality still suffers from a low depth of penetration, thus limiting its use to shallow tissues or endoscopy-based procedures. In contrast, positron emission tomography (PET) presents a high depth of penetration and the resulting signal is less attenuated, allowing for imaging in-depth tissues. Thus, association of these imaging techniques has the potential to push **** the limits of each single modality. Recently, several research groups have been involved in the development of radiolabeled fluorophores with the aim of affording dual-mode PET/OPI probes used in preclinical imaging studies of diverse pathological conditions such as cancer, Alzheimer's disease, or cardiovascular diseases. Among all the available PET-active radionuclides, 18F stands out as the most widely used for clinical imaging thanks to its advantageous characteristics (t1/2 = 109.77 min; 97% β+ emitter). This review focuses on the recent efforts in the synthesis and radiofluorination of fluorescent scaffolds such as 4,4-difluoro-4-bora-diazaindacenes (BODIPYs), cyanines, and xanthene derivatives and their use in preclinical imaging studies using both PET and OPI technologies.Focused attention meditation (FAM) is a category of meditation based on an EEG pattern, which helps the wandering mind to focus on a particular object. It seems that prayer may, in certain respects, be similar to FAM. It is believed that emotional experience correlates mainly with theta, but also with selective alpha, with internalized attention correlating mainly with the synchronous activity of theta and alpha. The vast majority of studies indicate a possible impact of transcendence in meditation on the alpha wave in EEG. No such reports are available for prayer. Seventeen women and nineteen men aged 27-64 years with at least five years of intensive meditation/prayer experience were recruited to participate in the study. We identified the two largest groups which remained in the meditation trend originating from the Buddhist system (14 people) (Buddhist meditators) and in the Christian-based faith (15 people) (Christian meditators). EEG signal was recorded with open eyes, closed eyes, during meditation/prayer, and relaxation. After the EEG recording, an examination was conducted using the Scale of Spiritual Transcendence. Buddhist meditators exhibited a statistically significantly higher theta amplitude at Cz during meditation compared to relaxation. Meanwhile, spiritual openness favored a higher theta amplitude at Pz during relaxation. Our study did not reveal statistically significant differences in frontal areas with regard to alpha and theta, which was often indicated in previous studies. It seems necessary to analyze more closely the midline activity in terms of dispersed neural activity integration.(1) Background Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is associated with various cardiometabolic diseases. However, the association between NAFLD and stroke is not well known. The purpose of our study is to reveal the relationship between NAFLD and Stroke incidence. (2) Methods Using data from a Korean prospective cohort study, we excluded participants with heavy alcohol consumption and a history of stroke; hence, 7964 adults aged 40-69 years were included in this study. According to their fatty liver index (FLI), participants were divided into three groups less then 30 (n = 4550, non-NAFLD), 30-59.9 (n = 2229, intermediate), and ≥60 (n = 1185, NAFLD). The incidence of stroke according to the degree of FLI was evaluated using the Cox proportional hazard model. (3) Results During the 12-year follow-up period, 168 strokes occurred. A graded association between NAFLD and stroke incidence was observed, i.e., 1.7% (n = 76), 2.5% (n = 56), and 3.0% (n = 36) for non-NAFLD, intermediate, and NAFLD FLI groups, respectively.

Premature mortality is an important population health indicator used to assess health system functioning and to identify areas in need of health system intervention. Predicting the future incidence of premature mortality in the population can facilitate initiatives that promote equitable health policies and effective delivery of public health services. This study protocol proposes the development and validation of the Premature Mortality Risk Prediction Tool (PreMPoRT) that will predict the incidence of premature mortality using large population-based community health surveys and multivariable modeling approaches.
PreMPoRT will be developed and validated using various training, validation, and test data sets generated from the six cycles of the Canadian Community Health Survey (CCHS) linked to the Canadian Vital Statistics Database from 2000 to 2017. Population-level risk factor information on demographic characteristics, health behaviors, area level measures, and other health-related factors will be usedpulation-based estimates of premature mortality and will be used to inform population strategies for prevention.
Using routinely collected risk factor information, we anticipate that PreMPoRT will produce population-based estimates of premature mortality and will be used to inform population strategies for prevention.
Many persons living with Parkinson's disease (PD) have difficulty rising from a chair. Impaired ability to perform the chair rise may be associated with low physical activity levels and reduced ability to perform activities of daily living (ADL).
Cross-sectional analysis was performed in 88 persons with PD to study the association of chair rising ability with ADL and physical activity.
We found that the participants who pushed themselves up from the chair had more severe PD, higher motor impairment and more comorbidity than those who rose from a chair normally. The Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale ADL (UPDRS-ADL), Schwab and England Activities of Daily Living Scale (SE-ADL) and the Physical Activity Scale for the Elderly (PASE) scores for the participants who pushed themselves up to rise (17.20 ± 7.53; 76.67 ± 13.23; 46.18 ± 52.64, respectively) were significantly poorer than for those who rose normally (10.35 ± 3.79; 87.64 ± 8.30; 112.90 ± 61.40, respectively) (all p < .05). The current pilot randomized controlled trial (RCT) protocol will comprehensively describe the implementation of a culturally adapted Filipino version of the World Health Organization Step-by-Step (SbS-F) program, unguided online psychological intervention for people with depression based on behavioral activation, among overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Macao (Special Administrative Region). The main objective of this pilot study is to explore the preliminary effectiveness of the SbS-F program to decrease participant-reported depressive symptoms compared to enhanced care as usual (ECAU); and the secondary objectives are to explore the preliminary effectiveness of the SbS-F to decrease participant-reported anxiety symptoms and improve wellbeing, and to evaluate the potential for SbS-F implementation in real-world settings.
This trial will follow an effectiveness-implementation hybrid type 1 trial design and utilize the Reach, Efficacy/Effectiveness, Adoption, Implementation, and Maintenance (RE-AIM) framts scalability. If SbS-F shows positive results among OFWs in Macao, it has strong potential to be used by OFWs in other countries that may also experience depression and difficulty accessing mental health services.

Patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) have high mortality risk and are frequently treated in intensive care units (ICUs).
This was a retrospective observational study. Upon admission, the median age was 70 (range, 33-96) years, and RA duration was 10 (range, 0-61) years. The 5-year survival after ICU admission was 47%, and 30-day, 90-day, and 1-year mortality rates were 22, 27, and 37%, respectively. The major reasons for ICU admission were cardiovascular complications (24%) and infection (40%) and the most common ICU treatments were mechanical ventilation (69%), renal replacement (25%), and vasopressor (78%). In the 30-day mortality group, infection led to a fatal outcome in most cases (67%), and nonsurvival was associated with a significantly higher glucocorticoid dose, updated Charlson's comorbidity index (CCI), and acute physiology and chronic health evaluation (APACHE) II score. Laboratory data obtained at ICU admission showed that lower platelet number and total protein and higher creatinine and prothrombin time international normalized ratio (PT-INR) indicated significantly poorer prognosis. The multivariate Cox proportional hazard model revealed that nonuse of csDMARDs, high updated CCI, increased APACHE II score, and prolonged PT-INR were associated with a higher risk of mortality after ICU admission.

Premature mortality is an important population health indicator used to assess health system functioning and to identify areas in need of health system intervention. Predicting the future incidence of premature mortality in the population can facilitate initiatives that promote equitable health policies and effective delivery of public health services. This study protocol proposes the development and validation of the Premature Mortality Risk Prediction Tool (PreMPoRT) that will predict the incidence of premature mortality using large population-based community health surveys and multivariable modeling approaches. PreMPoRT will be developed and validated using various training, validation, and test data sets generated from the six cycles of the Canadian Community Health Survey (CCHS) linked to the Canadian Vital Statistics Database from 2000 to 2017. Population-level risk factor information on demographic characteristics, health behaviors, area level measures, and other health-related factors will be usedpulation-based estimates of premature mortality and will be used to inform population strategies for prevention. Out of 1483 articles, six met the inclusion criteria for qualitative analysis, with two randomized controlled trials and four before-and-after studies. The common region is substituted with different additional components specific for each strain. Four crystal structures of SotB were captured in different conformations, including substrate-bound occluded, inward-facing, and inward-open states. Comparisons between the four structures reveal nonlinear rigid-body movements of alternating access during the state transition from inward-open to occluded conformation. The expressed Thanatin-GFP-HBsAg (TGH) quantitively bound with the anti-HBsAg antibody by ELISA, and after exposure to TGH, Gram-negative E. coli cells became fluorescencent indicating the binding of TGH with the bacterial cells. We also demonstrated that TGH could intercalated into the lipid bilayer as shown by the quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM-D) and TEM. Moreover, the TGH bound E. coli cells attracted anti-HBsAg IgG as shown by the experiments that in turn treated the E. coli cells with TGF, anti-HBsAg serum and PE labelled goat anti-mouse IgG antibodies. After supplementation with serum from HBsAg vaccinated individuals, TGH showed improved bactericidal effect in vitro. In vivo experiments showed that the **** receiving TGH vaccination show quicker clearance of MDR E. coli pretreated with TGH and better survive in comparison with groups treated with piperacillin plus subatan. We observed that they were exclusively expressed in sperm throughout the development and that gipc-1; gipc-2 double mutants were infertile. Further examination of sperm development in gipc-1; gipc-2 mutants revealed defective sperm activation and abnormal pseudopod extension that resulted in reduced sperm motility. Moreover, major sperm protein (MSP) was abnormally segregated between spermatids and residual bodies in gipc-1; gipc-2 mutants. Our findings indicate that gipc-1 and gipc-2 are required for the proper pseudopod extension of sperm during the terminal differentiation of spermatids. During this process, the segregation of MSP into spermatids is important for ensuring normal sperm motility during fertilization.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) results from infection by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). It was first reported in Wuhan, China in patients suffering from severe pneumonia and acute respiratory distress syndrome and has now grown into the first pandemic in over 100 years. Patients infected with SARS-CoV-2 develop arterial thrombosis including stroke, myocardial infarction and peripheral arterial thrombosis, all of which result in poor outcomes despite maximal medical, endovascular, and microsurgical treatment compared with non-COVID-19-infected patients. In this review we provide a brief overview of SARS-CoV-2, the infectious agent responsible for the COVID-19 pandemic, and describe the mechanisms responsible for COVID-19-associated coagulopathy. This case addresses the gap in the literature concerning stopping and restarting biologic drugs in the perioperative setting and documents a successful course of a microvascular procedure in a patient with vasculitis.An 11-year-old boy presented with features resembling those described in health alerts on Paediatric Inflammatory Multisystem Syndrome Temporally associated with SARS-CoV-2 (PIMS-TS), including persistent fever, haemodynamic instability and abdominal pain. Laboratory tests, including raised inflammatory markers, D-dimer, troponin and a coagulopathy, were consistent with PIMS-TS. Our patient required transfer to the paediatric intensive care unit; an echocardiography revealed left ventricular dysfunction. He was treated with intravenous immunoglobulins (Igs), corticosteroids and aspirin, with full resolution of clinical symptoms. A follow-up echocardiogram 1 month after discharge was unremarkable.Three SARS-CoV-2 PCRs on respiratory samples, taken over the initial 4-day period, were negative, as was a SARS-CoV-2 PCR on faeces 1 month after presentation; titres of IgG were clearly elevated. There are numerous variations of the pulmonary vasculature, all of which have the potential to cause a range of serious vascular complications if not appreciated preoperatively. Measures to mitigate the risk of complications resulting from vascular anomalies should be considered by both radiologists and surgeons, with effective lines of communication essential to safe working.
Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) results from infection by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). It was first reported in Wuhan, China in patients suffering from severe pneumonia and acute respiratory distress syndrome and has now grown into the first pandemic in over 100 years. Patients infected with SARS-CoV-2 develop arterial thrombosis including stroke, myocardial infarction and peripheral arterial thrombosis, all of which result in poor outcomes despite maximal medical, endovascular, and microsurgical treatment compared with non-COVID-19-infected patients. In this review we provide a brief overview of SARS-CoV-2, the infectious agent responsible for the COVID-19 pandemic, and describe the mechanisms responsible for COVID-19-associated coagulopathy. Adults aged ≥18 years, living in an IDP camp, able to perform brisk walking, and who scored ≥10 on a depressive symptoms subscale were recruited. The intervention group received an 8-week ACD dance intervention and two 1-h psychoeducation sessions on stress management; the controls only received the psychoeducation sessions. Outcomes were depressive symptoms, stress, and anxiety. Data were collected at baseline (T0), immediately after the intervention at week 8 (T1), and at week 12 (T2) at the post-intervention and follow-up session. A generalized estimating equation was used to test the effects of the ACD intervention, with a 0.05 significance level. Results 198 IDPs completed the study (ncontrol = 98; nintervention = 100). The intervention group reported significantly greater improvements in depressive symptoms (v = 0.33, p less then 0.001) and stress (v = 0.15, 0.008) than did the control group. Conclusions ACD could be a valuable complementary intervention in health promotion but more research is needed.
The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic is an international public health threat. This study aimed to evaluate COVID-19-related knowledge, preventive behaviors, and risk perception among Saudi Arabian medical students and interns.
This cross-sectional study was conducted among fourth- and fifth-year medical students and interns between June and August 2020 at three colleges of medicine in Qassim Region, Saudi Arabia. A previously validated questionnaire was distributed as an online survey.
The total mean knowledge score was 12.5/15 points; 83.9% achieved a high score. The mean score of self-reported preventive behavior was 8.40; 94.1% achieved a high score. The overall mean risk perception score was 5.34/8 points; 31.6% achieved a high score.
Medical students assessed in this study displayed sufficient knowledge and preventive behaviors regarding the COVID-19 pandemic and an average level of risk perception. Lower scores by younger medical students suggest that they must improve their COVID-19 knowledge and risk perception, as they are a potential source of health information in their communities.

Special attention will be paid to current challenges faced by researchers, the limitations of existing Cannabis micropropagation studies, and recent developments and future directions of Cannabis tissue culture technologies.Relevant personal protective measures during the COVID-19 pandemic include face masks, possibly decreasing the risk of infection among the general population and healthcare workers (HCW) if utilized properly. The aim of the study was to assess whether different Polish HCW utilize face masks according to the 2020 World Health Organization guidance (WHO) criteria. This cross-sectional study included 1156 respondents who participated in an internet survey evaluating mask-related behaviors. All the WHO criteria were complied with by 1.4% of participants, regardless of medical profession, specialty or place of employment. HCW mostly adhered to criterion 1 (C1; strict covering of the face and mouth with the mask; 90.8%), C4 (washing/disinfecting the hands after touching/taking off the mask; 49%) and C3 (taking off the mask properly without touching the anterior surface; 43.4%), whereas C2 (avoidance of touching the mask with hands) was complied with least commonly (6.8%). HCW with mask-induced itch (31.6%) complied to C2 less often (odds ratio 0.53; p = 0.01). The study reveals that Polish HCW rarely adhere to all the 2020 WHO guidance criteria on the use of masks, whereas the adherence to particular criteria is variable and may be associated with the presence of skin-related conditions and other factors. Better compliance with the recommendations in the future is necessary to increase personal safety of HCW and prevent the transmission of SARS-CoV-2.

BACKGROUND Traditional plaster (TP) is a widely used auxiliary fixation (AF) approach for postoperative fracture patients. However, patient discomfort and inconvenience to clinicians has limited its application. We introduce a novel instant 3-dimensional printing appliance system (3D-AS) to address such issues. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/cx-5461.html MATERIAL AND METHODS Twenty-seven postoperative fracture patients were divided randomly between a TP group and a 3D-AS group, and analyzed retrospectively. Radiographic images during follow-up were evaluated for fracture healing and fracture reduction quality. The range of motion (ROM) was recorded to assess motor performance. Patient pain was assessed using the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS). Complications were also compared between the 2 groups. RESULTS The patients comprised 17 men and 10 women with ages ranging from 21 to 69 years (mean age 47.35). All patients completed a follow-up visit (range 14-19 months, mean 13.59 months). Although no significant difference was found between general characteristics (P>0.05) and the time of fracture union (P>0.05), significant differences between groups were seen in complications (P less then 0.05), VAS (P less then 0.01), patient satisfaction (P less then 0.05), and ROM for the upper joints (P less then 0.05). CONCLUSIONS Our study suggests that 3D-AS provides better upper-limb ROM and more comfortable healing for postoperative fracture patients, indicating that it can be recommended for use in such patients.
There is scant information about maternal cardiovascular hemodynamic change during twin pregnancies. Aim of the study is to investigate longitudinal changes in maternal arterial stiffness, elastic aortic properties and ventricular-arterial coupling (VAC) in uncomplicated twin pregnancies compared to singleton ones.
In this prospective longitudinal study, we performed applanation tonometry and transthoracic echocardiography in the first (T1; 10-15 weeks' gestation (w)), second (T2; 19-26 w) and third trimesters (T3; 30-38 w) in women with uncomplicated twin pregnancies, both monochorionic and dichorionic. Heart-rate-corrected augmentation index (AIx@75) was studied as indicator of arterial stiffness. Aortic diameters and elastic properties were calculated. VAC was defined as the ratio between aortic elastance (Ea) and left ventricular end-systolic elastance (Ees). Finally, stroke volume (SV), cardiac output (CO) and total vascular resistance (TVR) were evaluated. The findings were compared to those of womeigher blood pressures and TVR with no differences in CO, SV, aortic dimensions and elastic properties. Despite VAC is maintained within its normal range, total vascular load (i.e., Ea) resulted higher in twin than singleton pregnancies throughout gestation. It is conceivable that these findings may represent one of the underlying cause for the increased risk of adverse obstetric outcomes described in multiple gestations.

This study proposes the ME-MGNN (Multiple Embeddings enhanced Multi-Graph Neural Networks) model for Chinese NER in the healthcare domain. We integrate multiple embeddings at different granularities from the radical, character to word levels for an extended character representation, and this is fed into multiple gated graph sequence neural networks to identify named entities and classify their types. The experimental datasets were collected from health-related news, digital health magazines and medical question/answer forums. Manual annotation was conducted for a total of 68,460 named entities across 10 entity types (body, symptom, instrument, examination, chemical, disease, drug, supplement, treatment and time) in 30,692 sentences. Experimental results indicated our ME-MGNN model achieved an F1-score result of 75.69, outperforming previous methods. BACKGROUND Traditional plaster (TP) is a widely used auxiliary fixation (AF) approach for postoperative fracture patients. However, patient discomfort and inconvenience to clinicians has limited its application. Radiographic images during follow-up were evaluated for fracture healing and fracture reduction quality. The range of motion (ROM) was recorded to assess motor performance. Patient pain was assessed using the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS). Complications were also compared between the 2 groups. RESULTS The patients comprised 17 men and 10 women with ages ranging from 21 to 69 years (mean age 47.35). All patients completed a follow-up visit (range 14-19 months, mean 13.59 months). Although no significant difference was found between general characteristics (P>0.05) and the time of fracture union (P>0.05), significant differences between groups were seen in complications (P less then 0.05), VAS (P less then 0.01), patient satisfaction (P less then 0.05), and ROM for the upper joints (P less then 0.05). In this prospective longitudinal study, we performed applanation tonometry and transthoracic echocardiography in the first (T1; 10-15 weeks' gestation (w)), second (T2; 19-26 w) and third trimesters (T3; 30-38 w) in women with uncomplicated twin pregnancies, both monochorionic and dichorionic. Heart-rate-corrected augmentation index (AIx@75) was studied as indicator of arterial stiffness. Aortic diameters and elastic properties were calculated. VAC was defined as the ratio between aortic elastance (Ea) and left ventricular end-systolic elastance (Ees). Finally, stroke volume (SV), cardiac output (CO) and total vascular resistance (TVR) were evaluated. The findings were compared to those of womeigher blood pressures and TVR with no differences in CO, SV, aortic dimensions and elastic properties. This study proposes the ME-MGNN (Multiple Embeddings enhanced Multi-Graph Neural Networks) model for Chinese NER in the healthcare domain. We integrate multiple embeddings at different granularities from the radical, character to word levels for an extended character representation, and this is fed into multiple gated graph sequence neural networks to identify named entities and classify their types. The experimental datasets were collected from health-related news, digital health magazines and medical question/answer forums. Manual annotation was conducted for a total of 68,460 named entities across 10 entity types (body, symptom, instrument, examination, chemical, disease, drug, supplement, treatment and time) in 30,692 sentences. Experimental results indicated our ME-MGNN model achieved an F1-score result of 75.69, outperforming previous methods. The rapidly growing COVID-19 pandemic is the most serious global health crisis since the "Spanish flu" of 1918. There is currently no proven effective drug treatment or prophylaxis for this coronavirus infection. While developing safe and effective vaccines is one of the key focuses, a number of existing antiviral drugs are being evaluated for their potency and efficiency against SARS-CoV-2 in vitro and in the clinic. Here, we review the significant potential of nitazoxanide (NTZ) as an antiviral agent that can be repurposed as a treatment for COVID-19. Originally, NTZ was developed as an antiparasitic agent especially against Cryptosporidium spp.; it was later shown to possess potent activity against a broad range of both RNA and DNA viruses, including influenza A, hepatitis B and C, and coronaviruses. Recent in vitro assessment of NTZ has confirmed its promising activity against SARS-CoV-2 with an EC50 of 2.12 μM. Here we examine its drug properties, antiviral activity against different viruses, clinical trials outcomes, and mechanisms of antiviral action from the literature in order to highlight the therapeutic potential for the treatment of COVID-19. Furthermore, in preliminary PK/PD analyses using clinical data reported in the literature, comparison of simulated TIZ (active metabolite of NTZ) exposures at two doses with the in vitro potency of NTZ against SARS-CoV-2 gives further support for drug repurposing with potential in combination chemotherapy approaches. Prepared samples were analyzed directly from the well plate with a commercial autosampler that was modified with a 10-port valve for compatibility with 30 μm i.d. nanoLC columns. We used autoPOTS to analyze 1-500 HeLa cells and observed only a moderate reduction in peptide coverage for 150 cells and a 24% reduction in coverage for single cells compared to our previously developed nanoPOTS platform. To evaluate clinical feasibility, we identified an average of 1095 protein groups from ∼130 sorted B or T lymphocytes. Normalizing mentions of medical concepts to standardized vocabularies is a fundamental component of clinical text analysis. Ambiguity-words or phrases that may refer to different concepts-has been extensively researched as part of information extraction from biomedical literature, but less is known about the types and frequency of ambiguity in clinical text. This study characterizes the distribution and distinct types of ambiguity exhibited by benchmark clinical concept normalization datasets, in order to identify directions for advancing medical concept normalization research.
We identified ambiguous strings in datasets derived from the 2 available clinical corpora for concept normalization and categorized the distinct types of ambiguity they exhibited. We then compared observed string ambiguity in the datasets with potential ambiguity in the Unified Medical Language System (UMLS) to assess how representative available datasets are of ambiguity in clinical language.
We found that <15% of strings werfy 3 opportunities for concept normalization research, including a need for ambiguity-specific clinical datasets and leveraging the rich semantics of the UMLS in new methods and evaluation measures for normalization.
The increasing complexity of data streams and computational processes in modern clinical health information systems makes reproducibility challenging. Clinical natural language processing (NLP) pipelines are routinely leveraged for the secondary use of data. Workflow management systems (WMS) have been widely used in bioinformatics to handle the reproducibility bottleneck.
To evaluate if WMS and other bioinformatics practices could impact the reproducibility of clinical NLP frameworks.
Based on the literature across multiple researcho fields (NLP, bioinformatics and clinical informatics) we selected articles which (1) review reproducibility practices and (2) highlight a set of rules or guidelines to ensure tool or pipeline reproducibility. We aggregate insight from the literature to define reproducibility recommendations. Finally, we assess the compliance of 7 NLP frameworks to the recommendations.
We identified 40 reproducibility features from 8 selected articles. Frameworks based on WMS match more than 50% of features (26 features for LAPPS Grid, 22 features for OpenMinted) compared to 18 features for current clinical NLP framework (cTakes, CLAMP) and 17 features for GATE, ScispaCy, and Textflows.
34 recommendations are endorsed by at least 2 articles from our selection. Overall, 15 features were adopted by every NLP Framework. Nevertheless, frameworks based on WMS had a better compliance with the features.
NLP frameworks could benefit from lessons learned from the bioinformatics field (eg, public repositories of curated tools and workflows or use of containers for shareability) to enhance the reproducibility in a clinical setting.

Ambiguity-words or phrases that may refer to different concepts-has been extensively researched as part of information extraction from biomedical literature, but less is known about the types and frequency of ambiguity in clinical text. This study characterizes the distribution and distinct types of ambiguity exhibited by benchmark clinical concept normalization datasets, in order to identify directions for advancing medical concept normalization research. We identified ambiguous strings in datasets derived from the 2 available clinical corpora for concept normalization and categorized the distinct types of ambiguity they exhibited. We then compared observed string ambiguity in the datasets with potential ambiguity in the Unified Medical Language System (UMLS) to assess how representative available datasets are of ambiguity in clinical language. We found that <15% of strings werfy 3 opportunities for concept normalization research, including a need for ambiguity-specific clinical datasets and leveraging the rich semantics of the UMLS in new methods and evaluation measures for normalization. The increasing complexity of data streams and computational processes in modern clinical health information systems makes reproducibility challenging. Clinical natural language processing (NLP) pipelines are routinely leveraged for the secondary use of data. Workflow management systems (WMS) have been widely used in bioinformatics to handle the reproducibility bottleneck. To evaluate if WMS and other bioinformatics practices could impact the reproducibility of clinical NLP frameworks. Based on the literature across multiple researcho fields (NLP, bioinformatics and clinical informatics) we selected articles which (1) review reproducibility practices and (2) highlight a set of rules or guidelines to ensure tool or pipeline reproducibility. We aggregate insight from the literature to define reproducibility recommendations. Finally, we assess the compliance of 7 NLP frameworks to the recommendations. We identified 40 reproducibility features from 8 selected articles. Frameworks based on WMS match more than 50% of features (26 features for LAPPS Grid, 22 features for OpenMinted) compared to 18 features for current clinical NLP framework (cTakes, CLAMP) and 17 features for GATE, ScispaCy, and Textflows. 34 recommendations are endorsed by at least 2 articles from our selection. Overall, 15 features were adopted by every NLP Framework. Nevertheless, frameworks based on WMS had a better compliance with the features. Of the 384 questionnaires distributed, 346 health care professionals responded to the questionnaire (90.10% response rate). Most participants had good knowledge about ADR reporting, but pharmacist had comparatively better knowledge than other HCPs regarding ADR (89.18%) pharmacovigilance system (81.08%), its centres Based on the above, strategies are needed to educate, train, and empower the HCPs in the domain of pharmacovigilance.

Although the major airway microbiota in both CF and non-CF bronchiectasis may be similar, there are some differences in clinical and microbiologic features. There may also be differences in antibiotic susceptibility patterns between the CF and non-CF populations. Therefore, analysis and comparison of the microbiota and antibiotic susceptibility pattern in CF bronchiectasis versus non-CF bronchiectasis would help to improve the management of both conditions.
Two authors will independently search the electronic databases PubMed, EMBASE, the Cochrane Library, and LIVIVO, for studies reporting bacterial colonization of the respiratory tract in adults and children diagnosed with bronchiectasis in either CF or non-CF. We will include studies examining any respiratory tract specimen, using conventional bacterial microbial treatment of non-CF bronchiectasis patients. In general, treatment is based on extrapolation of evidence in people with CF bronchiectasis. An insight into the microbiota and antimicrobial susceptibility patterns in the two conditions would facilitate appropriate rather than empiric antimicrobial therapy and hopefully reduce the burden of antimicrobial resistance created by rampant usage of antibiotics.

Interestingly, the amount of accumulated amyloid-β (Aβ) was high in the OSNs located in the olfactory epithelial ectoturbinate and the ventral olfactory bulb glomeruli.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has spread around the world and requires effective control measures. Like the human-to-human transmission of the severe acute respiratory syndrome-coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), the distribution of COVID-19 was driven by population flow and required emergency response measures to slow down its spread and degrade the epidemic risk. The local epidemic risk of COVID-19 is a combination of emergency response measures and population flow. Because of the spatial heterogeneity, the different impacts of coupled emergency responses and population flow on the COVID-19 epidemic during the outbreak period and a control period are unclear. We examined and compared the impact of emergency response measures and population flow on China's epidemic risk after the Wuhan lockdown during the outbreak period and a control period. We found that the population flow out of Wuhan had a long-term impact on the epidemic's spread. In the outbreak period, a large population flow out of Wuhan led to nationwide migration mobility, which directly increased the epidemic in each province. Meanwhile, quick emergency responses mitigated the spread. Although low population flow to provinces far from Hubei delayed the outbreak in those provinces, relatively delayed emergency response increased the epidemic in the control period. The results of microscopes indicated that the core-shell microspheres were successfully synthesized, and the microspheres had good hydration expansion effect. The expanded microspheres could attract each other through the electrostatic force of anions and cations to achieve the purpose of coalescence.
