BACKGROUND Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is characterised by a range of symptoms, such as excessive mobility, difficulty in maintaining attention and inadequate impulse control. Methylphenidate (MPH) is widely prescribed as a treatment for ADHD. In the literature, studies investigating the effects of MPH on the lower urinary tract (LUT) are limited. OBJECTIVE The aim of the study was to evaluate MPH-induced LUT symptoms (LUTSs) in patients with ADHD without a diagnosis of voiding dysfunction (VD). STUDY DESIGN After ethical committee approval, volunteers aged 7-17 y were divided into two groups, with group 1 composed of individuals diagnosed with ADHD but not VD and group 2 (control) composed of healthy individuals. Lower urinary tract symptoms and quality of life, in addition to uroflowmetry test results and postvoiding residual volume (PVRV), were evaluated in both groups at baseline and again 4 wk later. The individuals in group 1 were treated with MPH after baseline screening. The dysfunm underlying the effect of MPH on the LUT. In a future study, the authors suggest evaluating the effects of MPH in a urodynamic study in patients with ADHD diagnosed with VD. As can be seen in the table, higher percentages of healthy and stone-forming children had altered 12-h night urine than 24-h urine with regards to Ca/Cr, Cit/Cr and Ca/Cit ratios. All healthy subjects and all stone-forming children (except one) with altered Cit/Cr ratios or Ca/Cit ratios in the 24-h sample also had altered ratios in the 12-h overnight sample. DISCUSSION This study indicates that urine composition changes throughout the day, and that there is daily variability in most of the parameters related to kidney stone formation. Furthermore, 12-h overnight samples seem to be more sensitive than 24-h samples in detecting the most common urinary abnormalities. The main limitation of this study is the relative low sample size of stone-forming children, owing to the low prevalence of nephrolithiasis in childhood. CONCLUSIONS We observed a higher excretion of stone-promoting substances and a lower citrate in urine at night. However, the study results do not provide enough evidence to conclude that the use of a 12-h overnight sample collection can replace 24 h urine analysis in the metabolic evaluation of children with lithiasis. The success of the technique was assessed 5 minutes after epidural injection by the disappearance of the patella reflex. Blinded operators recorded heart rate (HR), respiratory rate (fR), cloacal temperature, depth of sedation and times to first effect, sedation suitable for clinical interventions, first arousal and full recovery. Data were analysed using independent t test, Mann-Whitney U test, chi-square analysis and log-rank test at 5% level of significance. Then, the functionality of the strain was evaluated in vitro for Hsp65 production by Western blotting and for invasion into Caco-2 cells. The results demonstrated that the strain was able to produce Hsp65 and efficiently invade eukaryotic cells. Subsequently, in vivo, the anti-inflammatory capacity of the recombinant strain was evaluated in colitis induced with TNBS in BALB/c ****. Oral administration of the recombinant strain was able to attenuated the severity of colitis by mainly reducing IL-12 and IL-17 levels and increasing IL-10 and secretory immunoglobulin A levels. Herein, we describe a hybrid surgical and catheter-based approach to defect closure in a 63-year-old woman with postinfarction ventricular septal rupture and cardiogenic shock.The world is facing a viral pandemic of a new coronavirus called COVID-19. Pentoxifylline is a methyl-xanthine derivative and it inhibits the phosphodiesterase IV (PDE IV). This drug is known for its unique features as an immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory agent, also it could have antiviral affects. This is a scoping review, in which all related articles on COVID-19 and the probable benefits of Pentoxifylline against COVID-19 pathogenesis, in Medline, Scopus, Web of Sciences, and Google Scholar up to 20 March 2020 with proper keywords including pentoxifylline, Pentoxil, COVID-19, coronavirus, treatment, anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, antifibrosis, oxygenation, circulation, bronchodilator, ARDS, and organ failure. We found many confirmatory data on proper efficacy of pentoxifylline on controlling COVID-19 and its consequences. The antiviral, anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidative, immune-modulatory, bronchodilator and respiratory supportive effects and protective roles in organ failures of PTX, along with its main functions means better circulation-oxygenation properties, low price and safety, make it a promising drug to be considered for COVID-19 treatment, especially as an adjuvant therapy in combination with other drugs.Aim To explore the factors that affect the health status of healthcare providers. Background The lack of studies addresses the stress, resilience, social support, and health status of healthcare providers. Methods Using a cross-sectional study design, 500 participants were recruited from three hospitals which were operated by one entity in southern Taiwan. Data were collected with structured questionnaires. Health status was not significantly correlated with any demographic characteristics, but was significantly correlated with work stress, resilience, and social support, with work stress being an important factor influencing the health status of healthcare providers. Conclusions Healthcare providers with health issues had higher work stress, less resilience, and less social support than did healthy medical personnel. Moreover, work stress was the main factor affecting the health of healthcare providers. Implications for nursing management Hospital administrators should conduct a series of health management programs to identify high-risk employees who might need assistance. Such programs promoting healthy workplaces are necessary, as well as studies that examine the effectiveness of such strategies.COVID‐19 has created the necessity to rapidly generate evidence to enlighten many blind spots encompassing the pandemic, from pathophysiology to management. Scientific journals have timely responded to this challenge by prioritizing COVID‐19 research, with proactive editorial efforts favoring open‐access to articles, launching calls for papers, implementing specific sections and special issues on COVID‐19, among others. However, the impact of all these measures on the overall quality and adequacy of research are largely unknown and several authors have shown concern in this regard.Stem cell dysfunction is a hallmark of aging, associated with the decline of physical and cognitive abilities of humans and other mammals [Cell 2013;1531194]. Therefore, it has become an active area of research within the aging and stem cell fields, and various techniques have been employed to mitigate the decline of stem cell function both in vitro and in vivo. While some techniques developed in model organisms are not directly translatable to humans, others show promise in becoming clinically relevant to delay or even mitigate negative phenotypes associated with aging. This review focuses on diet, treatment, and small molecule interventions that provide evidence of functional improvement in at least one type of aged adult stem cell.

While in general sympathetic to Gillies' account, and totally convinced of the relevance of manipulative evidence and different sorts of interventions in the biomedical sciences, we believe that some further qualifications are needed to allow the notion of manipulative evidence to better express features of medical practice. In particular, we provide some qualification of the role of "interventional evidence" proposed by Gillies, suggesting a distinction between "interventional evidence" and "evidence for interventions". The measurement is based on the fluorescence quenching of CQDs and PDs in the presence of acetamiprid. PDs were prepared using a one-step aqueous synthesis method from ascorbic acid and diethylenetriamine at room temperature. CQDs were prepared from the same materials using the hydrothermal method at 180 °C. These particles were characterized using field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), FTIR, dynamic light scattering (DLS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), UV-Vis, and fluorescence. "Manipulative evidence" is one of the notions of causal evidence that has stimulated much debate. It has been defined in slightly different ways, attributed different relevance, and recently placed at the core of Gillies' "action-related theory of causality", a view specifically meant to address causation in medicine. While in general sympathetic to Gillies' account, and totally convinced of the relevance of manipulative evidence and different sorts of interventions in the biomedical sciences, we believe that some further qualifications are needed to allow the notion of manipulative evidence to better express features of medical practice. In particular, we provide some qualification of the role of "interventional evidence" proposed by Gillies, suggesting a distinction between "interventional evidence" and "evidence for interventions". A case study from research on rare diseases is analyzed in depth and a multifaceted notion of manipulative evidence put forward that allows better understanding of what manipulations in medical contexts amount to and what their targets are.Although much attention has already been paid to Kant's ideas on race, more research is needed to determine the sources that he used to support his portrayal of non-white races. We report two novel cases of NTM infection in ventriculoperitoneal shunts, and review the literature on treatment options, challenges and outcomes in these patients. Clinicians should consider NTM when dealing with unusual hardware infections as it is an emerging infectious disease with high potential for morbidity and mortality. We present the case of a 77-year-old female with no past surgical history who presented to our teaching hospital with high-grade small bowel obstruction secondary to an incarcerated Spigelian hernia. She was taken to the operating room for a laparotomy and a portion of the small bowel mesentery was found to be strangulated. The hernia was reduced, and the defect was repaired primarily. The diagnosis of a Spigelian hernia can often be difficult to diagnose on history and physical examination alone, but computed tomography (CT) imaging can be a valuable adjunct in diagnosis. Prompt surgical treatment should ensue when the diagnosis of high-grade bowel obstruction is made in a patient with imaging findings consistent with a Spigelian hernia. Methods In this randomized controlled study, we compared the effect of music therapy in patients ≥ 18 years old. Patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty were screened for the study to rule out any contraindications for spinal anesthesia. Patients were randomized in a 11 ratio for either the "music" or "control" group. Both groups were compared for sedation requirements, preoperative and postoperative anxiety levels, and patient satisfaction. Results Subjects in the music group had a statistically significant lower than average State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI)-Staty. Silver-impregnated dry dressings, such as Aquacel dressings, and incisional negative pressure dressings (Prevena) have been developed to reduce the rates of surgical site infections (SSIs) after surgery. We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 235 patients who underwent primary posterior approach THA at our institution during a three-year period. Patients were grouped based on surgical dressing. Rates of SSI were recorded, as well as the effects of factors including age, sex, body mass index, and medical comorbidities. In the high-risk subgroup, defined as BMI > 30 and ASA > 3, the infection rate was 2.97% in the Aquacel group, compared to 1.20% in the Prevena group. This difference did not reach statistical significance. There was a statistically significant impact on readmissions rate (p = 0.028) and reoperation (p = 0.001). The findings of this study suggest that negative pressure dressings in carefully selected patients may help to reduce reoperations and readmissions in this subgroup. Results The 108 subjects enrolled in this study included 75 (69.4%) men and 33 (30.6%) women, with a mean age of 49±20 years. Although it tends to self-correct fairly rapidly, close observation for the dreaded consequences related to hypophosphatemia is required. However, the impact of alkaline pretreatment on plant growth was not significant. Catalytic conversion of xylose and the hemicellulose fraction of waste biomass to furfural is important for the valorization of waste lignocellulose. Here, a clean and efficient catalytic system consisting of sulfonated carbon microspheres catalysts and γ-valerolactone was developed for the upgrading of xylose and waste lignocellulose to the furfural in one-pot. Sulfonated carbon microspheres (CCoS) with Brønsted and Lewis acid sites were prepared to yield furfural. The mesoporous structures were facilitated by introduction of Co element in xylose hydrothermal process, and the density of Brønsted acid sites were improved by the sulfonation. The furfural yield from xylose reached 75.12% using CCoS as catalyst at 170 °C for 30 min in a γ-valerolactone/water (17/3 v/v) solvent. As typical Brønsted acid, the SO3H groups on the surface of CCoS catalyst is essential for catalytic dehydration xylose to furfural. Additionally, the mesoporous structures of CCoS improved the mass transfer in the furfural production process. The catalytic system was applied in the conversion of real biomass (including corncob, corn straw and Eucalyptus sawdust) to evaluate the possibility of application. These three biomass species all reached excellent furfural yields, which were more than 70%. This work provided a catalytic strategy for effective conversion of xylose and biomass to furfural. BACKGROUND The association of population mixing (PM1) with childhood acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL2) has been reproduced in multiple studies. However, the mechanism underlying this association is unknown. METHODS Ecological study of incidence of pediatric ALL among 253 counties in the State of Texas (USA) using surrogates of genetic and environmental PM. ALL incidence data were obtained from Texas Cancer Registry and county population statistics from the US Census Bureau. Poisson regression was used to compare ALL incidence and PM. RESULTS There is substantial and variable genetic and environmental PM among counties in Texas. Indicators of genetic PM including proportion of multiracial households, ratio of Hispanics to non-Hispanics, and ratio of foreign to native-born residents were all significantly associated with a higher incidence of ALL (IRR3 1.81 (95CI 1.05-3.13), 1.67 (95CI 1.16-2.37), and 1.59 (95CI 1.03-2.48), respectively). Surrogates of environmental PM namely population density and persons per household were not associated with incidence of ALL; IRRs 1.29 (95CI 0.4-4.15) and 1.47 (95CI 0.89-2.43). CONCLUSIONS These findings are consistent with prior patterns and magnitudes of PM association with ALL. Our findings suggest that the implicated mechanism of leukemogenesis in PM may be genetically transmitted rather than environmental. BACKGROUND Biologic and epidemiologic evidence suggests that tumor cells depend on reprogrammed lipid metabolic function for survival and growth. Lipids may promote tumor recurrence by providing energy needed for proliferation. Studies have found associations of serum lipids with cancer incidence, mortality, and disease-free mortality, though they have yet to evaluate the prognostic potential of serum lipids for colorectal cancer (CRC) recurrence. METHODS 341 Danish CRC patients who underwent surgical resection were actively followed between 2003-2011 from date of surgery until December 31, 2012, or death. Serum lipids including low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), and triglycerides (TG), were collected at regular intervals. Lipids were assigned as time-varying exposures evaluated with a one-year lag. Cox proportional hazards models were used to assess recurrence rate, adjusting for clinically relevant covariates. A restricted analysis was performed in a group of non-statin users (n = 236). RESULTS Among 341 CRC patients, increased HDL-C appeared to have a beneficial impact on recurrence-free survival (RFS) for CRC patients, especially among statin users (hazard ratio [HR] for 0.1 mmol/L increase = 0.58; 95 % confidence interval [CI] 0.43, 0.78). Increased LDL-C and TG were not associated with RFS. Increased lipids showed a near-null effect on CRC recurrence [e.g. HR (95 % CI) for 0.1 mmol/L increase LDL = 1.01 (0.97, 1.19)] among non-statin users. CONCLUSION Serum lipid levels of LDL-C and TG do not appear to be associated with CRC recurrence. Further investigation of the role of HDL-C in CRC recurrence may be of interest based on the suggestive inverse association observed here. However, the impact of alkaline pretreatment on plant growth was not significant. Catalytic conversion of xylose and the hemicellulose fraction of waste biomass to furfural is important for the valorization of waste lignocellulose. Here, a clean and efficient catalytic system consisting of sulfonated carbon microspheres catalysts and γ-valerolactone was developed for the upgrading of xylose and waste lignocellulose to the furfural in one-pot. Sulfonated carbon microspheres (CCoS) with Brønsted and Lewis acid sites were prepared to yield furfural. The mesoporous structures were facilitated by introduction of Co element in xylose hydrothermal process, and the density of Brønsted acid sites were improved by the sulfonation. The furfural yield from xylose reached 75.12% using CCoS as catalyst at 170 °C for 30 min in a γ-valerolactone/water (17/3 v/v) solvent. As typical Brønsted acid, the SO3H groups on the surface of CCoS catalyst is essential for catalytic dehydration xylose to furfural. Additionally, the mesoporous structures of CCoS improved the mass transfer in the furfural production process. The catalytic system was applied in the conversion of real biomass (including corncob, corn straw and Eucalyptus sawdust) to evaluate the possibility of application. These three biomass species all reached excellent furfural yields, which were more than 70%. This work provided a catalytic strategy for effective conversion of xylose and biomass to furfural. BACKGROUND The association of population mixing (PM1) with childhood acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL2) has been reproduced in multiple studies. However, the mechanism underlying this association is unknown. METHODS Ecological study of incidence of pediatric ALL among 253 counties in the State of Texas (USA) using surrogates of genetic and environmental PM. ALL incidence data were obtained from Texas Cancer Registry and county population statistics from the US Census Bureau. Poisson regression was used to compare ALL incidence and PM. RESULTS There is substantial and variable genetic and environmental PM among counties in Texas. Indicators of genetic PM including proportion of multiracial households, ratio of Hispanics to non-Hispanics, and ratio of foreign to native-born residents were all significantly associated with a higher incidence of ALL (IRR3 1.81 (95CI 1.05-3.13), 1.67 (95CI 1.16-2.37), and 1.59 (95CI 1.03-2.48), respectively). Surrogates of environmental PM namely population density and persons per household were not associated with incidence of ALL; IRRs 1.29 (95CI 0.4-4.15) and 1.47 (95CI 0.89-2.43). CONCLUSIONS These findings are consistent with prior patterns and magnitudes of PM association with ALL. Our findings suggest that the implicated mechanism of leukemogenesis in PM may be genetically transmitted rather than environmental. BACKGROUND Biologic and epidemiologic evidence suggests that tumor cells depend on reprogrammed lipid metabolic function for survival and growth. Lipids may promote tumor recurrence by providing energy needed for proliferation. Studies have found associations of serum lipids with cancer incidence, mortality, and disease-free mortality, though they have yet to evaluate the prognostic potential of serum lipids for colorectal cancer (CRC) recurrence. METHODS 341 Danish CRC patients who underwent surgical resection were actively followed between 2003-2011 from date of surgery until December 31, 2012, or death. Serum lipids including low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), and triglycerides (TG), were collected at regular intervals. Lipids were assigned as time-varying exposures evaluated with a one-year lag. Cox proportional hazards models were used to assess recurrence rate, adjusting for clinically relevant covariates. A restricted analysis was performed in a group of non-statin users (n = 236). RESULTS Among 341 CRC patients, increased HDL-C appeared to have a beneficial impact on recurrence-free survival (RFS) for CRC patients, especially among statin users (hazard ratio [HR] for 0.1 mmol/L increase = 0.58; 95 % confidence interval [CI] 0.43, 0.78). Increased LDL-C and TG were not associated with RFS. Increased lipids showed a near-null effect on CRC recurrence [e.g. HR (95 % CI) for 0.1 mmol/L increase LDL = 1.01 (0.97, 1.19)] among non-statin users. CONCLUSION Serum lipid levels of LDL-C and TG do not appear to be associated with CRC recurrence. Further investigation of the role of HDL-C in CRC recurrence may be of interest based on the suggestive inverse association observed here. In the present study, isolation and identification of hydrogen producing strains from sugar and food industry wastewater were reported. Discriminating between monozygotic twins (MZ) remains a challenge in the field of forensics globally. It is very difficult to find sequence variants within MZ twins, despite using ultra-deep next generation sequencing (NGS) for nuclear DNA. However, mitochondrial DNA might be a potential marker owing to its higher mutation rate and easier sequencing via NGS. Here, we aimed to introduce a long-read single molecule real-time sequencing (SMRT) strategy, with better continuity and fewer alignment errors, to obtain more accurate mitochondrial genome (mtGenome) sequence on the Sequel platform. Compared to Ion Torrent Personal Genome Machine (PGM), the long-read SMRT sequencing strategy generated highly accurate and mapped circular consensus sequence (CCS) reads and exhibited robust performance in terms of reliable repeatability, consistent coverage pattern, and balanced strands in mtGenome recovery. Moreover, the long-read SMRT strategy exhibited superior ability to not only identify accurate haplotypes but also discover a total of 785 low-level variants within 16 MZ twin pairs with threshold of 2% and 20 CCS reads with Q30 quality. Taken together, our findings suggested the long-read SMRT technology as an appreciable strategy for obtaining accurate mitotypes and providing a promising solution for distinguishing between MZ twin pairs in forensic genetics.In this case report, SS-OCTA identified the key diagnostic features of JRCH seen with multimodal imaging. In present work, we have identified 1453 DNA binding proteins (DBPs) in the 4173 genes of Mtb through the DNABIND tool and they were subjected for further screening by incorporating different bioinformatics tools. The eighteen DBPs were selected for the B-cell epitope prediction by using ABCpred server. Moreover, the B-cell epitope bearing the antigenic and non- allergenic property were selected for T-cell epitope prediction using ProPredI, and ProPred server. Finally, DGIGSAVSV (Rv1088), IRALPSSRH (Rv3923c), LTISPIANS (Rv3235), VQPSGKGGL (Rv2871) VPRPGPRPG (Rv2731) and VGQKINPHG (Rv0707) were identified as T-cell epitopes. The structural modelling of these epitopes and DBPs was performed to ensure the localization of these epitopes on the respective proteins. The interaction studies of these epitopes with human HLA confirmed their validation to be used as potential vaccine candidates. Collectively, these results revealed that the DBPs- Rv2731, Rv3235, Rv1088, Rv0707, Rv3923c and Rv2871 are the most appropriate vaccine candidates. In our knowledge, it is the first report of using the DBPs of Mtb for epitope prediction. Compared to other strategies, investigation of phytomolecules with known experimental evidence represents a highly cost-effective and less time-consuming approach. Interestingly, some of the phytomolecules, previously known to show anti-tuberculosis effects, are known. While, these compounds have not yet been tested for their additional abilities to interact with resuscitation-promoting factor B (RpfB), an essential protein involved in revoking of Mtb dormancy. We, therefore, performed an initial computational study to evaluate the binding affinity of 38 phytomolecules to select the most effective ligands against RpfB. The studies were carried out using AutoDock and associated tools for static interaction analysis, while molecular dynamics (MD) simulations were performed to examine the stability of predicted protein-ligand complexes using the Desmond MD package. As an outcome of this study, we have reported four potential compounds, viz. diospyrin, 2'-Nortiliacorinine, 5,4'-dihydroxy-3,7,8,3'-tetramethoxyflavone, and tiliacorine which showed a putative binding affinity with significant intermolecular interactions, docking energy of -8.0 kcal/mol or higher, and vital complex stability (~2.4 Å RMSD) during 100 ns MD simulation. The findings of this study indicated that phytomolecules are capable to efficiently inhibit the RpfB, which is vital for reactivation of dormant Mtb. Characterization of the molecular targets for hits with intriguingly selective activity against dormant Mtb would be helpful to elucidate the essential mechanisms underlying the survival of dormant Mtb during latent infections.No data are available on rivaroxaban use in renal transplant recipients and on its surmised interaction with immunosuppressants. (Hassk) (False daisy) was assessed under intermittent (IT) and continuous (CT) doses of elevated ultraviolet-B (eUV-B). Eclipta alba is rich in medicinally important phytochemical constituents, used against several diseases. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/blasticidin-s-hcl.html The hypothesis of this study is that alterations in UV-B dose may modify the quantity and quality of medicinally valuable components with changes in the morphological and physiological parameters of test plant. To fulfill our hypothesis IT and CT of eUV-B (ambient ± 7.2 kJ m-2 day-2) was given for 130 and 240 h respectively to assess the impact of UV-B stress. Growth and physiological parameters were adversely affected under both the treatments with varying magnitude. The observation of leaf surfaces showed increase in stomatal and trichome densities suggesting the adaptive resilience of the plants against UV-B. Besides, biosynthesis of wedelolactone, a major medicinal compound of E. alba was observed to be stimulated under UV-B exposure. The essential oil content was reduced under IT while increased under CT. A total of 114 compounds were identified from oil extract of E. alba. n-Pentadecane (25.79%), n-Octadecane (12.98%), β-Farnesene (9.43%), α-Humulene (4.95%) (E)-Caryophyllene (4.87%), Phytol (4.25%), α-Copaene (2.26%), Humulene epoxide (1.46%), β-Pinene (1.07) and β-Caryophyllene oxide (1.06%) were identified as major components of oil. CT induced the synthesis of some medicinally important compounds such as α-terpineol, δ-cadinene, linolenic acid, methyl linoleate and myristic acid amide. Srivastava Foundation for Science and Society 2020.This study was performed to investigate the constituents, in vitro antifungal activity and phytotoxicity potential of the essential oil from Juniperus polycarpos var. turcomanica leaves. The essential oil was analyzed by GC-FID, and GC/MS, which predominantly contains α-pinene (51.21%), germacrene-B (4.80%), and ∆-cadinene (2.56%). The antifungal activity of the essential oil against some phytopathogenic fungi, including Alternaria alternata, Colletotrichum trichellum, Curvularia fallax, Cytospora sacchari, Fusarium oxysporum, and Macrophomina phaseolina was performed through disk diffusion and agar dilution assays. The essential oil of J. polycarpos var. turcomanica had high antifungal activity against tested phytopathogenic fungi. The most susceptible fungi to the essential oil were C. trichellum in agar dilution and M. phaseolina and C. fallax in disk diffusion methods, whereas, the most resistant fungus to the essential oil was obtained from A. alternata in both assays. Screening methods had an influence on antifungal activity of the essential oil as most of the tested fungi in this study were shown to be more resistant in disc diffusion methods. According to the phytotoxic assay results, the essential oil from J. polycarpos var. turcomanica had high phytotoxicity against three species of weeds, including P. oleracea L., A. retroflexus L., and D. stramonium L. The results of this research suggest that the herbicidal and antifungal activities of the essential oil from J. polycarpos var. turcomanica can be attributed to its major group of constituents, monoterpenes hydrocarbons. © Prof. H.S. The complete chloroplast genome of W. villosa was sequenced and analyzed using next-generation sequencing technology in the present work. The results showed that the W. villosa chloroplast genome is a circular molecule with 163,608 bp in length. It harbors a pair of inverted repeat regions (IRa and IRb) of 29,820 bp in length, which separate the large single copy (LSC, 88,680 bp) region and the small single copy (SSC, 15,288 bp) region. After annotation, 134 genes were identified in this plastome in total, comprising of 87 protein-coding genes, 38 transfer RNA genes, 8 ribosomal RNA genes and one pseudogene (ycf1). Codon usage, RNA editing sites and single/long sequence repeats were investigated to understand the structural characteristics of the W. villosa chloroplast genome. Furthermore, IR contraction and expansion were analyzed by comparison of complete chloroplast genomes of W. villosa and four other Zingiberaceae species. Finally, a phylogeny study based on the chloroplast genome of W. villosa, along with that of 15 different species, was conducted to further investigate the relationship among these lineages. Overally, our results represented the first insight into the chloroplast genome of W. villosa, and could serve as a significant reference for species identification, genetic diversity analysis and phylogenetic research between W. villosa and other species within Zingiberaceae. © Prof. H.S. It is controlled by endogenous and environmental factors and can be positively or negatively affected by plant growth regulators. It is characterised by major and significant changes in the patterns of gene expression. Auxin, especially indole-3-acetic acid (IAA), is a plant growth hormone that affects plant growth and development. The effect of IAA on leaf senescence is still unclear. In this study, we performed microarray analysis to investigate the role of IAA on gene expression during senescence in Arabidopsis thaliana. We sprayed IAA on plants at 3 different time points (27, 31 or 35 days after sowing). Following spraying, PSII activity of the eighth leaf was evaluated daily by measurement of chlorophyll fluorescence parameters. Our results show that PSII activity decreased following IAA application and the IAA treatment triggered different gene expression responses in leaves of different ages. © Prof. H.S. Growth and physiological parameters were adversely affected under both the treatments with varying magnitude. The observation of leaf surfaces showed increase in stomatal and trichome densities suggesting the adaptive resilience of the plants against UV-B. Besides, biosynthesis of wedelolactone, a major medicinal compound of E. alba was observed to be stimulated under UV-B exposure. The essential oil content was reduced under IT while increased under CT. A total of 114 compounds were identified from oil extract of E. alba. n-Pentadecane (25.79%), n-Octadecane (12.98%), β-Farnesene (9.43%), α-Humulene (4.95%) (E)-Caryophyllene (4.87%), Phytol (4.25%), α-Copaene (2.26%), Humulene epoxide (1.46%), β-Pinene (1.07) and β-Caryophyllene oxide (1.06%) were identified as major components of oil. The essential oil was analyzed by GC-FID, and GC/MS, which predominantly contains α-pinene (51.21%), germacrene-B (4.80%), and ∆-cadinene (2.56%). The antifungal activity of the essential oil against some phytopathogenic fungi, including Alternaria alternata, Colletotrichum trichellum, Curvularia fallax, Cytospora sacchari, Fusarium oxysporum, and Macrophomina phaseolina was performed through disk diffusion and agar dilution assays. The essential oil of J. polycarpos var. turcomanica had high antifungal activity against tested phytopathogenic fungi. The most susceptible fungi to the essential oil were C. trichellum in agar dilution and M. phaseolina and C. fallax in disk diffusion methods, whereas, the most resistant fungus to the essential oil was obtained from A. alternata in both assays. Screening methods had an influence on antifungal activity of the essential oil as most of the tested fungi in this study were shown to be more resistant in disc diffusion methods. According to the phytotoxic assay results, the essential oil from J. polycarpos var. turcomanica had high phytotoxicity against three species of weeds, including P. oleracea L., A. retroflexus L., and D. stramonium L. The complete chloroplast genome of W. villosa was sequenced and analyzed using next-generation sequencing technology in the present work. The results showed that the W. villosa chloroplast genome is a circular molecule with 163,608 bp in length. It harbors a pair of inverted repeat regions (IRa and IRb) of 29,820 bp in length, which separate the large single copy (LSC, 88,680 bp) region and the small single copy (SSC, 15,288 bp) region. After annotation, 134 genes were identified in this plastome in total, comprising of 87 protein-coding genes, 38 transfer RNA genes, 8 ribosomal RNA genes and one pseudogene (ycf1). Codon usage, RNA editing sites and single/long sequence repeats were investigated to understand the structural characteristics of the W. villosa chloroplast genome. Furthermore, IR contraction and expansion were analyzed by comparison of complete chloroplast genomes of W. villosa and four other Zingiberaceae species. Finally, a phylogeny study based on the chloroplast genome of W. villosa, along with that of 15 different species, was conducted to further investigate the relationship among these lineages. Overally, our results represented the first insight into the chloroplast genome of W. villosa, and could serve as a significant reference for species identification, genetic diversity analysis and phylogenetic research between W. villosa and other species within Zingiberaceae. © Prof. H.S. It is characterised by major and significant changes in the patterns of gene expression. Auxin, especially indole-3-acetic acid (IAA), is a plant growth hormone that affects plant growth and development. The effect of IAA on leaf senescence is still unclear. In this study, we performed microarray analysis to investigate the role of IAA on gene expression during senescence in Arabidopsis thaliana. We sprayed IAA on plants at 3 different time points (27, 31 or 35 days after sowing). Following spraying, PSII activity of the eighth leaf was evaluated daily by measurement of chlorophyll fluorescence parameters. Background Homelessness is a rapidly growing issue throughout the United States and has important public health implications. Los Angeles, like other large urban cities, has seen a recent increase in homelessness. However, little is known about emergency medical service (EMS) utilization by those experiencing homelessness. Objective Describe the utilization of emergency medical services by homeless patients. Methods This is a 12-month retrospective review of electronic health records of all 911-incidents attended by the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) from January to December 2018. The City of Los Angeles is 480 square miles and has a population of 3,949,776 with a homeless population of 31,285 (0.8% of city population). The primary outcome is the frequency of EMS 911-calls for homeless patients. Secondary outcomes include call characteristics. Results There were 355,411 911-incidents during the study period. Homeless patients were involved in 36,122 (10.2%) incidents. Incidents for the homeless population occurred at a rate of 1155 per 1000 homeless residents or 14 times the rate of the housed population. Of the 217,972 calls resulting in transport to the emergency department, 28,917 (13.3%) were for homeless patients. This translates into a rate of 924 per 1000 homeless patients, which is 19 times higher than the housed population. Homeless patients were younger (mean 46.1 v 52.6 years) and more likely to be male (71% v 49.1%). Acuity was lower in the homeless group, 31.4% v 42.5% received advanced life support. Conclusion In the City of Los Angeles, people experiencing homelessness demonstrated disproportionately high use of EMS services and ambulance transports, were more frequently younger, male, and had lower acuity conditions when compared with housed patients.To describe ocular surface disorders associated with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Results. A total of 330 lateral port sites in 110 patients who underwent benign gynecological surgery via mini-laparoscopy were assessed for pain and cosmetic appearance. Pain scores at each time point were significantly lower for 2.4- and 3-mm ports than those for 5-mm ports; however, no significant difference was detected between 2.4-mm and 3-mm port sites (P = .6). The difference was more evident at 24 hours when routine analgesic drugs were stopped (P = .004). For POSAS scores, both 2.4-mm and 3-mm ports were superior to 5-mm port sites (P = .002); however, there was no significant difference between 2.4-mm and 3-mm port sites (P = .2). This overlap can lead to the psychological "invisibility" of people whose race and gender identities are perceived to have conflicting stereotypes. In the present research (N = 249), we examined when race begins to bias representations of gender across development. In Study 1, a speeded categorization task revealed that children were slower to categorize Black women as women, relative to their speed of categorizing White and Asian women as women and Black men as men. Children were also more likely to miscategorize Black women as men and less likely to stereotype Black women as feminine. Study 2 replicated these findings and provided evidence of a developmental shift in categorization speed. An omnibus analysis provided a high-powered test of this developmental hypothesis, revealing that target race begins biasing children's gender categorization around age 5 years. We aimed to develop a prioritization tool to improve the organization and access to the care for this population.Methods In this sequential mixed methods study, we began with a qualitative phase in which we conducted semi-structured interviews with 14 stakeholders including patients, their caregivers, and AAC service providers in Quebec City, Canada to gather their ideas about prioritization criteria. Then, during a half-day consensus group meeting with stakeholders, using a consensus-seeking technique (i.e. Technique for Research of Information by Animation of a Group of Experts), we reached consensus on the most important prioritization criteria. These criteria informed the quantitative phase in which used an electronic questionnaire to collect stakeholders' views regarding the relative weights for each of the selected criteria.

This paper describes the synthesis and characterization of new "T-type" azo poly(amide imide)s as well as guest-host systems based on the "T-type" matrices. The matrices possessed pyridine rings in a main-chain and azobenzene moieties located either between the amide or imide groups. The non-covalent polymers contained the molecularly dispersed 4-phenylazophenol or 4-[(4-methyl phenyl)diazinyl]phenol chromophores that are capable of forming intermolecular hydrogen bonds with the pyridine rings. The FTIR spectroscopy and the measurements of the thermal, optical and photoinduced optical birefringence were employed for the determination of the influence of H-bonds and the specific elements of polymer architecture on physicochemical properties. Moreover, the obtained results were compared to those described in our previous works to formulate structure-property relations that may be considered general for the class of "T-type" azo poly(amide imide)s.Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), a serious infection in sexually active women, is one of the reasons for which females seek care in emergency departments and therefore represents an important public health problem. We describe here a case of peritonitis as a complication of pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) due to Neisseria gonorrhoeae infection in a 49-year-old woman who presented at the Emergency Department with acute abdominal pain.Non-hydrogenated diamond-like carbon (DLC) films with various ratios of sp3/sp2 were prepared on cemented carbide YG8 with DC magnetron sputtering technology. A pure graphite target was selected as the carbon source. Before DLC deposition, a surface etching pretreatment was carried out by mid-frequency magnetron sputtering method, using Ti atoms to improve adhesion strength. The ratios of sp3/sp2 were adjusted by bias voltages. In order to investigate the effect of the ratio of sp3/sp2 on adhesion and tribological properties, Raman spectra, XPS spectra, adhesion scratch test and ball-on-disk dry friction tests were applied. The results indicated that the ratio of sp3/sp2 fluctuated with bias voltage, increasing in the range of 0.74 to 0.98. The adhesion strength decreased from 31.5 to 18.4 N with the increasing ratio of sp3/sp2, while the friction coefficient rose in DLC-Si3N4 and dropped in DLC-Ti6Al4V. For DLC-Ti6Al4V, the oxidation of Ti6Al4V had a greater influence than graphitization of DLC. The hard oxides of Ti6Al4V broke the graphite transfer layer leading to a high friction coefficient. The wear rate was approximately linearly related to bias voltage. The coefficients of the linear regression equation were influenced by different friction materials. The last phenomena may appear together and result in hydrogen embrittlement in forms of simultaneous hydrogen-enhanced localized plasticity and delayed hydride cracking.The objective of this study was to determine the effect of supplementing Kluyveromyces marxianus CPY1, K. marxianus RSY5 and Pichia kudriavzevii YSY2 isolated from ruminal fluid of dairy cows on transfer of aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) from feed into aflatoxin M1 (AFM1) in milk, DMI, milk production and nutrient digestibility. Four multiparous Holsteins in mid-lactation were used in a 4 × 4 Latin square design trial consisting of 14 days in each experimental period for sample collection. Between each period, 14 clearance days prior to the next treatment were allowed to minimize carryover effects. In each treatment, subsequent supplementation of isolated yeast was compared, i.e., (1) control (without yeast supplementation), (2) K. marxianus CPY1 (K1Y), (3) K. marxianus RSY5 (K2Y) and (4) P. kudriavzevii YSY2 (PY). All diets contained 22.28 µg of AFB1/kg. Treatments were individually fed at the rate of 2 g/day (1 × 109 CFU/g) of yeast biomass or corn meal in the control group. Concentrations of AFM1 in milk was reduced with yeast and averaged 1.54, 0.36, 0.43 and 0.51 µg/L for control, K1Y, K2Y and PY, respectively (p less then 0.01). The transfer of AFB1 from feed into AFM1 in milk was higher in control compared with K1Y, K2Y and PY (7.26% vs. 1.18%, 1.44% and 1.69% respectively, p less then 0.01). Supplementation of yeast also improved DMI and milk compositions, but no differences were observed in nutrient digestibility or milk yield among treatments. Concentration and yield of milk protein, fat, lactose, solid-not-fat (SNF) and total solids were greater in cows fed yeast compared with the control (p less then 0.01). These results indicate that K. marxianus CPY1, RSY5 and P. kudriavzevii YSY2 shows promise as a dietary supplementation to detoxify AFB1 and improve DMI and yield of milk components.

Four multiparous Holsteins in mid-lactation were used in a 4 × 4 Latin square design trial consisting of 14 days in each experimental period for sample collection. Between each period, 14 clearance days prior to the next treatment were allowed to minimize carryover effects. In each treatment, subsequent supplementation of isolated yeast was compared, i.e., (1) control (without yeast supplementation), (2) K. marxianus CPY1 (K1Y), (3) K. marxianus RSY5 (K2Y) and (4) P. kudriavzevii YSY2 (PY). All diets contained 22.28 µg of AFB1/kg. Treatments were individually fed at the rate of 2 g/day (1 × 109 CFU/g) of yeast biomass or corn meal in the control group. Concentrations of AFM1 in milk was reduced with yeast and averaged 1.54, 0.36, 0.43 and 0.51 µg/L for control, K1Y, K2Y and PY, respectively (p less then 0.01). The transfer of AFB1 from feed into AFM1 in milk was higher in control compared with K1Y, K2Y and PY (7.26% vs. 1.18%, 1.44% and 1.69% respectively, p less then 0.01). Supplementation of yeast also improved DMI and milk compositions, but no differences were observed in nutrient digestibility or milk yield among treatments. Concentration and yield of milk protein, fat, lactose, solid-not-fat (SNF) and total solids were greater in cows fed yeast compared with the control (p less then 0.01). RATIONALE Kappa-opioid receptor (KOR) agonists are antinociceptive but have side effects that limit their therapeutic utility. New KOR agonists have been developed that are fully efficacious at the KOR but may produce fewer or reduced side effects that are typical of KOR agonists. OBJECTIVES We determined behavioral profiles for typical and atypical KOR agonists purported to differ in intracellular-signaling profiles as well as a mu-opioid receptor (MOR) agonist, oxycodone, using a behavioral scoring system based on Novak et al. (Am J Primatol 28124-138, 1992, Am J Primatol 46213-227, 1998) and modified to quantify drug-induced effects (e.g., Duke et al. J Pharmacol Exp Ther 366145-157, 2018). RESULTS We found a significant reduction in general physical activity in the period from the 20th to 32nd gestational week.

Anterior definitive endoderm (ADE) subpopulations identified by CD177 and CD275 show inverse activation of canonical and noncanonical WNT signaling. CD177+ ADE expresses and synthesizes the secreted WNT, NODAL and BMP antagonist CERBERUS1 and is specified toward the pancreatic fate. CD275+ ADE receives canonical Wnt signaling and is specified toward the liver fate. Unlike previous average nucleotide identity studies, we chose a single representative genome to serve as the effective nomenclatural 'type' defining each species. Of the 24,706 proposed species clusters, 8,792 are based on published names. We assigned placeholder names to the remaining 15,914 species clusters to provide names to the growing number of genomes from uncultivated species. This resource provides a complete domain-to-species taxonomic framework for bacterial and archaeal genomes, which will facilitate research on uncultivated species and improve communication of scientific results.CD4+ T cells are critical to fighting pathogens, but a comprehensive analysis of human T-cell specificities is hindered by the diversity of HLA alleles (>20,000) and the complexity of many pathogen genomes. We tested the methods on three types of samples cell lines, peripheral blood mononuclear cells and brain tissue, generating 36 libraries in six separate experiments in a single center. To directly compare the methods and avoid processing differences introduced by the existing pipelines, we developed scumi, a flexible computational pipeline that can be used with any single-cell RNA-sequencing method. We evaluated the methods for both basic performance, such as the structure and alignment of reads, sensitivity and extent of multiplets, and for their ability to recover known biological information in the samples.
