We present data from eight patients in our residential treatment program for OCD who were admitted prior to any COVID-19 restrictions and continued in treatment at the facility during the pandemic. **** like the general population, our patients varied in the ways they were impacted by COVID-19, yet the majority experienced improvements in OCD symptoms despite the context. This is not to downplay the many ways in which our patients were personally affected by COVID-19. Rather our patients' relatively resilient responses mirror our program's treatment model, which emphasizes exposure and response prevention (ERP) within the complementary framework of acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT). The intention of this article is to challenge the notion that by definition this population will fare worse than the general public or that ERP cannot proceed effectively during this time. In contrast, we underscore that effective OCD treatment can and should continue in the era of COVID-19.As the major concerns of higher education institutions (HEIs) are teaching, services, and research, this paper describes a region-wide evaluation of institutional performance in relation to universities in Taiwan. The evaluation was based on the perceptions of university professors regarding institutional slack and reputation, as well as internal and external social capital. The study sought answers to several research questions and adopted a survey approach. After choosing 30 universities of various sizes and from different regions, 926 professors were selected randomly as participants. Using PLS-SEM, this study confirms the influence of institutional slack, reputation, and internal and external social capital on performance. The results show that (a) institutional slack and reputation positively affect institutional performance; (b) internal social capital positively and significantly influences the relationships of institutional slack and reputation with performance; and (c) external social capital has a positive moderating effect on the relationship between institutional slack and performance. Concluding this paper, theoretical and managerial implications and suggestions for future studies are proposed.Love is a universal experience that most people desire. A serious, long-term, and stigmatized illness makes entering and maintaining close relationships difficult, however. Ten persons, who have been diagnosed with schizophrenia, and lived with their illness for between years and decades of their lifetimes, shared their stories. They reported how the illness has influenced their emotional experiences regarding love and their intimate relationship experiences. We present here a qualitative interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA) of their narratives. This analysis has been done with an explicit intention to give voice to the patient's perspective. The results highlight how illness adjustment and hospitalizations have an alienating effect on relationships through stigmatization and self-stigmatization; how illness creates psychological obstacles to love, such as diminished trust toward oneself and others; and how long-term patients experience practical difficulties in creating and sustaining relationships, such as poverty. Moreover, we show how patients experience changes in sexuality and the risks involved in it and discuss possible coping strategies from their perspectives.Human sound evaluations not only depend on the characteristics of the sound but are also driven by factors related to the listener and the situation. Our research aimed to investigate crucial factors influencing the perception of low-level sounds as they-in addition to the often-researched loud-level sounds-might be decisive to people's quality of life and health. We conducted an online study in which 1,301 participants reported on up to three everyday situations in which they perceived low-level sounds, resulting in a total of 2,800 listening situations. Participants rated the sounds' perceived loudness, timbre, and tonality. Additionally, they described the listening situations employing situational eight dimensions and reported their affective states. All sounds were then assigned to the categories natural, human, and technical. Linear models suggest a significant difference of annoyance ratings across sound categories for binary loudness levels. The ability to mentally fade-out sound was the most crucial situational variable after valence, arousal, and the situation dimensions positivity and negativity. We ultimately selected the most important factors from a large number of independent variables by applying the percentile least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (Lasso) regularization method. The resulting linear regression showed that this novel machine-learning variable-selection technique is applicable in hypothesis testing of noise effects and soundscape research. The typical problems of overfitting and multicollinearity that occur when many situational and personal variables are involved were overcome. This study provides an extensive database of evaluated everyday sounds and listening situations, offering an enormous test power. Our machine learning approach, whose application leads to comprehensive models for the prediction of sound perception, is available for future study designs aiming to model sound perception and evaluation.In two studies, we examined the association between nostalgia proneness (i.e., trait-level nostalgia) and importance of the collective self. In Study 1, we tested and supported the hypothesis that nostalgia proneness is positively correlated with relational collectivism, which entails an emphasis on one's connections with close others and small social networks. In Study 2, we demonstrated that nostalgia proneness is also positively correlated with group collectivism, which emphasizes one's membership in more abstract, larger social groups or categories, and was reflected in increased identification with a national ingroup. These findings offer insight into the nature of nostalgia proneness-a consequential and stable personality trait.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) has few treatment options, and unfortunately, the prognosis is poor. Thus, the development of novel therapeutic drugs is urgent. The present study aimed at evaluating the antitumor mechanism of selenylated IP against HepG2 cells and in vivo. The selenylated IP named IP-Se-06 (3-((2-methoxyphenyl)selanyl)-7-methyl-2-phenylimidazol[1,2-a]pyridine) showed high cytotoxicity against HepG2 cells (half-maximal inhibitory concentration [IC50 ] = 0.03 µM) and selectivity for this tumor cell line. At nontoxic concentration, IP-Se-06 decreased the protein levels of Bcl-xL and increased the levels of p53, leading to inhibition of cell proliferation and apoptosis. This compound decreased the level of extracellular signal-regulated kinase 1/2 protein and changed the levels of proteins involved in the drive of the cell cycle, tumor growth, and survival (cyclin B1, cyclin-dependent kinase 2). In addition, IP-Se-06 decreased the number of cells in the S phase. In addition, IP-Se-06 led to increased generation of reactive oxygen species, changed antioxidant defenses, and caused DNA fragmentation. Finally, IP-Se-06 significantly inhibited the growth of Ehrlich ascites tumors in ****, increased survival time, and inhibited angiogenesis. EHE has rarely been reported to occur in the post-radiotherapeutic setting, the breast site or in association with breast cancer. The differential diagnosis for radiation-associated vascular lesions of the breast is classically limited to atypical vascular lesion and angiosarcoma and does not include EHE. We present the case of a woman with a history of breast cancer and post-surgical radiotherapy who went on to develop an EHE of the chest wall skin within 3 years of the completion of radiotherapy. Microscopically, the lesion was infiltrative and composed of anastomosing nests of epithelioid-to-spindled cells with eosinophilic and vacuolated cytoplasm. By immunohistochemistry, the cells were positive for ERG, D2-40, and CD31. The diagnosis was confirmed by identification of a characteristic WWTR1-CAMTA1 fusion gene using RNA sequencing. This case expands our understanding of radiation-associated tumors.Glass polyalkenoate cements (GPCs) are under investigation as potential bone adhesives, as they may provide an alternative to polymethylmethacrylate-based cements. GPCs containing strontium (Sr) and zinc (Zn) in place of aluminium (Al) are of particular interest because these ions are known stimulators of osteoprogenitor differentiation. GPCs have been manufactured from a novel bioactive glass (SiO2 0.48, ZnO0.36, CaO0.12, SrO0.04) in the past, but, while such materials have been assessed for their influence on viability, their influence on osteogenic function has not been investigated until now. For this study, two GPCs were formulated from the same glass precursor evaluated in previous studies. These GPCs were named GPC A and GPC B, and they differed in glass particle size, polyacrylic acid molecular weight, and their powder liquid ratios. The effect of these two GPCs on osteogenic differentiation of primary rat osteoblasts were evaluated using three culture systems culture with dissolution extracts, indirect contact with transwell-inserts and direct contact. Additionally, the degradation characteristics of GPCs were assessed, including their interfacial pH and surrounding pH. The experimental outcomes revealed that collagen deposition, alkaline phosphatase expression, and mineralization were largely dependent on GPC composition as well as the mode of interaction with cells. These markers were found to be significantly elevated in response to GPC A's dissolution products. However, osteogenic differentiation was inhibited when osteoblasts were cultured indirectly and directly with GPCs, with, overall, GPC B significantly outperforming GPC A. For this study, two GPCs were formulated from the same glass precursor evaluated in previous studies. These GPCs were named GPC A and GPC B, and they differed in glass particle size, polyacrylic acid molecular weight, and their powder liquid ratios. The effect of these two GPCs on osteogenic differentiation of primary rat osteoblasts were evaluated using three culture systems culture with dissolution extracts, indirect contact with transwell-inserts and direct contact. Additionally, the degradation characteristics of GPCs were assessed, including their interfacial pH and surrounding pH. SIS was confirmed as an independent prognostic predictor among patients with breast cancer who had undergone surgery with curative intent. Higher preoperative SIS may indicate higher risk of metastasis and shorter overall survival time. The prognostic nomogram based on SIS was dependable for breast cancer patients who underwent curative surgery.
    Grade prognostic assessment (GPA) is widely used to evaluate the prognosis of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients with brain metastases (BMs). This study aimed to investigate whether lymph node status (LNS) could be included as one of the GPA variables for NSCLC with BMs.

    Overall, 586 patients with NSCLC and BMs were retrospectively analyzed. Overall survival stratified by LNS was analyzed using the Kaplan-Meier method. Multivariate analysis was also performed to identify independent prognostic factors using the Cox proportional hazards progression model. In the updated GPA index, prognostic factors and criteria of GPA score were weighted by effect magnitude relative risk (RR) and statistical significance.

    In NSCLC patients with BMs, those with lymph node involvement had worse overall survival (mOS, 13.4 months vs. 25.9 months, P <0.001) than those without lymph node involvement. Multivariate analysis showed that LNS might be an independent prognostic factor (RR 1.702, CI 1.340-2.162, P <0.001). Finally, five prognostic factors including LNS, the age of the patient, Karnofsky performance status (KPS), the number of BMs, and extracranial metastases were enrolled in our novel GPA index. With the updated GPA index involving the N stage, survival analysis was also performed. Prognostic results were significantly different among these four subgroups (Class A vs. Class B, P=0.047; Class B vs. Class C, P<0.001; Class C vs. Class D, P=0.007).

In this paper, for the first time in the state-of-the-art, a meta-feature based Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) hashing model for person re-identification is presented. Starting from 2D skeletons extracted from RGB video streams, the proposed method computes a set of novel meta-features based on movement, gait, and bone proportions. These features are analysed by a network composed of a single LSTM layer and two dense layers. The first layer is used to create a pattern of the person's identity, then, the seconds are used to generate a bodyprint hash through binary coding. The effectiveness of the proposed method is tested on three challenging datasets, that is, iLIDS-VID, PRID 2011, and MARS. In particular, the reported results show that the proposed method, which is not based on visual appearance of people, is fully competitive with respect to other methods based on visual features. DPHC treatment repressed palmitate-induced cytotoxicity, triglyceride content, and lipid accumulation. DPHC prevented palmitate-induced mRNA and protein expression of SREBP (sterol regulatory element-binding protein) 1, C/EBP (CCAAT-enhancer-binding protein) α, ChREBP (carbohydrate-responsive element-binding protein), and FAS (fatty acid synthase). In addition, palmitate treatment reduced the expression levels of phosphorylated AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) and sirtuin (SIRT)1 proteins, and DPHC treatment rescued this reduction. Various physicochemical properties were studied in terms of field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infra-red (FT-IR) spectroscopy, and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC)/thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Photothermal performance of the as-synthesized PTh-NPs was studied by irradiating near infra-red of 808 nm under different concentration of the substrate and power supply. The photothermal stability of PTh-NPs was also studied. Photothermal effects of the as-synthesized PTh-NPs on colorectal cancer cells (CT-26) were studied at 100 µg/mL concentration and 808 nm NIR irradiation of 2.0 W/cm2 power. Our in vitro results showed remarkable NIR laser-triggered photothermal apoptotic cell death by PTh-NPs. Based on the experimental findings, it is revealed that PTh-NPs can act as a heat mediator and can be an alternative material for photothermal therapy in cancer treatment.Person re-identification is concerned with matching people across disjointed camera views at different places and different time instants. The latter aspects are responsible for most of the current unsolved problems of person re-identification, in fact, the presence of many people in a location as well as the passing of hours or days give arise to important visual appearance changes of people, for example, clothes, lighting, and occlusions; thus making person re-identification a very hard task. In this paper, for the first time in the state-of-the-art, a meta-feature based Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) hashing model for person re-identification is presented. Starting from 2D skeletons extracted from RGB video streams, the proposed method computes a set of novel meta-features based on movement, gait, and bone proportions. These features are analysed by a network composed of a single LSTM layer and two dense layers. The first layer is used to create a pattern of the person's identity, then, the seconds are used to generate a bodyprint hash through binary coding. The effectiveness of the proposed method is tested on three challenging datasets, that is, iLIDS-VID, PRID 2011, and MARS. In particular, the reported results show that the proposed method, which is not based on visual appearance of people, is fully competitive with respect to other methods based on visual features. In addition, thanks to its skeleton model abstraction, the method results to be a concrete contribute to address open problems, such as long-term re-identification and severe illumination changes, which tend to heavily influence the visual appearance of persons.Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a common cause of chronic liver disease, encompassing a range of conditions caused by lipid deposition within liver cells, and is also associated with obesity and metabolic diseases. Here, we investigated the protective effects of diphlorethohydroxycarmalol (DPHC), which is a polyphenol isolated from an edible seaweed, Ishige okamurae, on palmitate-induced lipotoxicity in the liver. DPHC treatment repressed palmitate-induced cytotoxicity, triglyceride content, and lipid accumulation. DPHC prevented palmitate-induced mRNA and protein expression of SREBP (sterol regulatory element-binding protein) 1, C/EBP (CCAAT-enhancer-binding protein) α, ChREBP (carbohydrate-responsive element-binding protein), and FAS (fatty acid synthase). In addition, palmitate treatment reduced the expression levels of phosphorylated AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) and sirtuin (SIRT)1 proteins, and DPHC treatment rescued this reduction. Moreover, DPHC protected palmitate-induced liver toxicity and lipogenesis, as well as inflammation, and enhanced AMPK and SIRT1 signaling in zebrafish. Beside notable progress in the biological and phytochemical evaluation of this plant over the past few years, comprehensive reviews of H. pubescens are limited in scope. It has economic importance due to the extensive use of seeds as an antidiabetic. Furthermore, the plant is extensively reported in traditional uses among the natives of Asia and Africa, while scientifical validation for various ailments has not been studied either in vitro or in vivo. This review aims to summarize information on the pharmacology, traditional uses, active constituents, safety and toxicity of H. pubescens. Chemical analysis of H. pubescens extracts revealed the presence of several bioactive compounds, such as conessine, isoconnessine, conessimine, conimine, conessidine, conkurchicine, holarrhimine, conarrhimine, mokluangin A-D and antidysentericine.

This strategy is often unsuccessful. In this work, we described an enzyme-free method to phase two single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) using two fluorophore/quencher-labelled probes, where one of which was biotinylated. The fluorescence signal was obtained twice first, after the addition of the labelled probes and second, after the addition of the magnetic beads. The first signal was shown to be proportional to the total number of SNP A and SNP B present in the target analyte, while the second signal showed a marked decrease of the fluorescence signal from the non-biotinylated probe when the SNPs were in trans, showing that the probe immobilized on the magnetic bead selectively captures targets with SNPs in a cis configuration. We then mimic the nature of the human genome which consists of two haplotype copies of each gene, and showed that 250 nM of the 10 possible pairs of haplotypes could be differentiated using a combination of fluorescence microscopy and fluorescence detection.Insufficient method repeatability is a problem characterising the evaluation of certified reference materials (CRMs). Eight authentic natural steroids with diverse sugar moieties and hydrophobicities were selected as reference analytes and spiked to 0.1 g dried leaves. The extraction performance was evaluated based on the analytes' stability, recovery, matrix effect in the electrospray interface and the level of co-extractives. With the optimal method, the extraction was finished in 10 min. A colorless extract was obtained with recoveries ranging from 63% to 107% and absolute matrix effects ranging from 3% to 27%. The optimized method was validated by extracting 0.1 g, 0.2 g and 0.4 g spiked plant samples; method accuracy and precision were assessed by recoveries and relative standard deviations of the combined extraction-analysis workflow. The method was also tested on soil samples and indicated its suitability for measuring secondary metabolites in multiple environmental matrices. To our knowledge, this is the first time sPLE has been reported to extract plant secondary metabolites from a complex plant matrix, with satisfactory recoveries and low matrix effects.     The aim of the study was to determine the distribution of medical conditions among dental patients in our local environment.

    This is a descriptive cross-sectional study conducted at the Oral Diagnosis (OD) Clinic of Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex (OAUTHC), Ile-Ife, Osun State.

    Participants were selected using a simple random method from the pool of dental patients who presented at the OD Clinic of OAUTHC during the study period. Information was obtained from each participant using a structured questionnaire organized into sections. Section 1 collected information on participants' biodata such as age, sex, and weight. Section 2 recorded data on the history of the presence of relevant oral and systemic symptoms, while section 3 collected information on findings from intraoral and extraoral examination.

    The results were analyzed using STATA 13 statistical software.

    Of the 1503 patients who visited dental hospital during the study period, 176 (11.7%) had medical problems. The mean age of patients with medical problems was 48.5 ± 21.0 years. The mean age was higher in men compared to women (
    = 0.013). More than one-fifth (21.6%) of the patients were first diagnosed in the dental clinic. Hypertension was the most frequently seen medical condition, closely followed by peptic ulcer and diabetes mellitus. There is a growing concern that SCD may impair the psychosocial health-related quality of life (HRQoL), with a resultant lack of psychosocial stability and integration. The objective of this study was to assess the determinants of psychosocial quality of life (QoL) among adults with SCD.

    This was a cross-sectional study of adults with SCD. A multidimensional self-administered instrument, prevalidated for use in adults with chronic disease, was used. It consisted of 31 items that assessed physical function, physical and emotional role function, bodily pain, vitality, social function, mental health, and general health within 2 weeks prior to the time of survey. Questionnaires were administered to adults with sickle cell anemia who presented for their routine visit to the Sickle Cell Clinic at the Hematology Clinic in University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Ituku-Ozalla Enugu, or during sickle cell support group meetings. Psychosocial HRQoL was the primary outcome measured. Sociodemographic features such as marital status, gender, educational qualification, and SCD were the primary independent variables of interest.

The objective of this study was to assess the determinants of psychosocial quality of life (QoL) among adults with SCD. This was a cross-sectional study of adults with SCD. A multidimensional self-administered instrument, prevalidated for use in adults with chronic disease, was used. It consisted of 31 items that assessed physical function, physical and emotional role function, bodily pain, vitality, social function, mental health, and general health within 2 weeks prior to the time of survey. Questionnaires were administered to adults with sickle cell anemia who presented for their routine visit to the Sickle Cell Clinic at the Hematology Clinic in University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Ituku-Ozalla Enugu, or during sickle cell support group meetings. Psychosocial HRQoL was the primary outcome measured. Sociodemographic features such as marital status, gender, educational qualification, and SCD were the primary independent variables of interest. A total of I16 adults with SCD were participated in the study. After adjusting for marital status, gender, and educational qualification of adults with SCD, gender and marital status did not significantly affect psychosocial HRQoL ( = 0.619 and = 0.146), respectively, while educational status significantly affected their HRQoL ( = 0.013).   • Due to novel therapies, the prognosis of patients with metastatic renal cell carcinoma (****) has improved. A median overall survival of more than two years is a realistic goal. Immunotherapy combinations with checkpoint inhibitors or checkpoint inhibitors and the tyrosine kinase inhibitor axitinib are new first-line options.Sunitinib, pazopanib, tivozanib and the combination of bevacizumab + interferon alpha are approved for first-line therapy regardless of the progression risk score.      Injury or compression of a sensory nerve is an under-reported source of disabling pain in the lower limb. It is known that peripheral nerve microsurgeons can reconstruct and rewire injured nerves to relieve chronic pain but this option remains not completely understood and ignored by most orthopaedic surgeons, neurologists, and pain therapists. In this paper, we describe our experience with knee and ankle peripheral nerve surgery to improve the condition of patients suffering from chronic, posttraumatic lower limb pain.

     Between 2015 and 2018, a retrospective investigation was performed including patients who underwent ankle and knee nerve surgery for posttraumatic chronic pain with at least 1 year of follow-up. Previous surgeries or type of trauma, pain location and characteristics, type of operation (reconstruction, decompression, or denervation), and number of nerves operated were listed. Selective neuropathy was confirmed by ultrasound-guided nerve blocks. Outcome was assessed combining the visual anhronic knee and ankle pain. Physicians should be trained to suspect a neuropathic origin of pain in absence of musculoskeletal signs of pathology, especially following trauma or surgeries.
    Specialized outpatient palliative care (SAPV) is an important component in the care of people in their final days of life in Germany. The analysis of a representative cohort allows important conclusions to be drawn for improving the situation of people in palliative care in Germany.

    We analyzed the routine data of 2691 palliative patients collected during the care of an SAPV team. Statistical analyses were performed using SPSS version 24.

    In SAPV, approximately three-fourths of patients died in their homes. Of the total of 2691 patients, 1972 suffered from a malignancy and 719 patients had a non-malignant, chronic disease. The age at first contact with SAPV was significantly higher in patients without malignancy. Patients with or without malignancy did not differ from each other in terms of quality of life (Karnofsky's score) or symptom frequency. Only disorientation was documented significantly more frequently in non-tumor patients and was also more pronounced.

Previous studies have focused on factors that encourage or discourage doctors in their decision to establish a practice in rural areas. Little is known about factors such as job satisfaction and workload and geographical differences in Germany. The aim of the study was to investigate these factors in a detailed urban-rural comparison as part of a secondary data analysis.

    For this purpose, data from 1813 physicians practicing in Saxony (age 25-40), who were contacted by post, were analyzed.

    The results show that there are only slight differences with regard to job satisfaction. In terms of workload, there are no significant differences between physicians working in rural or in urban areas.

    Since workload and job satisfaction are not different between doctors working in urban and rural regions, other approaches must be made to encourage more doctors to establish rural practices and thus improve patient care in rural regions.
