    The goal of this study was to identify chronic conditions and multimorbidity patterns in patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and to examine their associations with pneumonia and death.

    This cross-sectional study analyzed the official data of COVID-19 patients in Mexico through May 18, 2020 (released by the Secretaría de Salud de México). Adjusted logistic regression models were applied to assess the associations of comorbidities with pneumonia and death. The marginal effects were estimated, and the probability of pneumonia or death according to the number of comorbidities was graphed for each year of age.

    Of the 51 053 COVID-19 patients enrolled in the final analysis, 27 667 (54.2%) had no chronic conditions, while 13 652 (26.7%), 6518 (12.8%) and 3216 (6.3%) were reported to have 1, 2, and 3 or more simultaneous conditions, respectively. Overall, a significant incremental gradient was observed for the association between multimorbidity and pneumonia (p<0.001); for 2 chronic conditions, the adjusted odds ratio (aOR) was 2.07 (95% confidence interval [CI], 1.95 to 2.20), and for ≥3 conditions, the aOR was 2.40 (95% CI, 2.22 to 2.60). A significant incremental gradient was also found for the relationship between multimorbidity and death (p<0.001); an aOR of 2.51 (95% CI, 2.30 to 2.73) was found for 2 chronic conditions and an aOR of 3.49 (95% CI, 3.15 to 3.86) for ≥3 conditions.

To test whether NTDs can recapitulate the effects of full-length (FL) cMyBPC in rescuing cardiac function in a cMyBPC-null mouse model of HCM, we assessed the efficacy of AAV9 gene transfer of a cMyBPC NTD that contained domains C0C2 and compared its therapeutic potential with AAV9-FL gene replacement. AAV9 vectors were administered systemically at neonatal day 1, when early-onset disease phenotypes begin to manifest. A comprehensive analysis of in vivo and in vitro function was performed following cMyBPC gene transfer. Our results show that a systemic injection of AAV9-C0C2 significantly improved cardiac function (e.g., 52.24 ± 1.69 ejection fraction in the C0C2-treated group compared with 40.07 ± 1.97 in the control cMyBPC-/- group, P less then 0.05) and reduced the histopathologic signs of cardiomyopathy. Furthermore, C0C2 significantly slowed and normalized the accelerated cross-bridge kinetics found in cMyBPC-/- control myocardium, as evidenced by a 32.41% decrease in the rate of cross-bridge detachment (krel). However, based on previous studies on adult samples and theoretical background, there are possible relationship between alexithymia and fibromyalgia as well as possible mediating effect of psychological distress on this relationship in adolescents. Further studies are recommended to examine the relationships between alexithymia, fibromyalgia, and psychological distress among adolescents.
    Behavioral addictions such as gambling and gaming disorder are significant public health issues that are of increasing importance to policy makers and health care providers. #link# Problem gambling and gaming behaviors have been identified as being associated with externalizing and internalizing problems, with theoretical models suggesting that both conduct problems and depressive symptoms may be significant risk factors in the development of problem gambling and gaming. As such, the purpose of this systematic review is to provide an overview of research identifying the relationship between conduct problems, depressive symptoms and problem gambling and gaming among adolescents and young adults.

    Systematic literature searches in accordance with PRISMA guidelines found 71 eligible studies that met the inclusion criteria, 47 for problem gambling, 23 for problem gaming and one for both problem behaviors.

    Adherence to antiretroviral therapy (ART) leads to viral suppression for people living with HIV (PLHIV) and is critical for both individual health and reducing onward HIV transmission. HIV stigma is a risk factor that can undermine adherence. We explored the association between HIV stigma and self-reported ART adherence among PLHIV in 21 communities in the HPTN 071 (PopART) trial in Zambia and the Western Cape of South Africa.

    We conducted a cross-sectional analysis of baseline data collected between 2013 and 2015, before the roll-out of trial interventions. Questionnaires were conducted, and consenting participants provided a blood sample for HIV testing. Poor adherence was defined as self-report of not currently taking ART, missing pills over the previous 7days or stopping treatment in the previous 12months. Stigma was categorised into three domains community, health setting and internalised stigma. Multivariable logistic regression was used for analysis.

    Among 2020 PLHIV self-reporting ever taking ART, 1888 (93%) were included in multivariable analysis. Poor ART adherence was reported by 15.8% (n=320) of participants, and 25.7% (n=519) reported experiencing community stigma, 21.5% (n=434) internalised stigma, and 5.7% (n=152) health setting stigma. PLHIV who self-reported previous experiences of community and internalised stigma more commonly reported poor ART adherence than those who did not (aOR 1.63, 95% CI 1.21 -2.19, P=0.001 and aOR 1.31, 95% CI 0.96-1.79, P=0.09).

    Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines have been used for the prevention of cervical cancers, and their clinical efficacy has not been well established in the prevention of oropharyngeal cancer (OPC), in spite of the common viral etiology. Therefore, they are still not routinely prescribed for the prevention of this cancer.

    We have used the i2b2 data repository to analyze the interrelations between the hospital population, OPC, vaccinated patients, and patients that were both vaccinated and developed OPC.

    From a total hospital population of 1310334 patients, 23174 (1.76%) patients were vaccinated for HPV. One third were males, and two thirds were females. The total number of OPC was 4380 (0.3%) from the total population, of which 3013 (69%) were men. The highest prevalence of OPC was found in the age-group of 65-74 (37% of all cases).     1734 patients who presented with ischemic cerebrovascular events were enrolled from the Formosa Stroke Genetic Consortium stroke registry and were screened for the NOTCH3 p.R544C mutation. Clinical and MRI characteristics of NOTCH3 p.R544C mutation carriers (n=36) and a subset of noncarriers (n=673) were tested in a logistic regression model to identify key features associated with the NOTCH3 p.R544C carrier status. Variables and their odds ratios in the regression model were used to develop the R544C screening score to predict positive NOTCH3 p.R544C test results.

    We constructed the R544C screening score using five clinical and imaging characteristics, including stroke onset before 50years of age, the small vessel occlusion subtype, a family history of stroke/TIA in siblings, external capsule involvement, and advanced deep white matter hyperintensity. The area under the ROC curve of the screening score was 0.867 (95% CI=0.810-0.924). The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value and accuracy were 0.75, 0.88, 0.13, 0.99, and 0.88, respectively, for a cutoff score of 5 points. In addition, the R544C screening score was validated in another cohort composed of 235 stroke patients with comparable performance (area under the ROC curve=0.957, 95% CI=0.916-0.997).

    A comparative cross-sectional study using Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), M.I.N.I (MINI International Neuropsychiatric Interview) and ENRICH- EMS (Evaluation and Nurturing Relationship Issues, Communication and Happiness - Marital Satisfaction Scale) were performed in a group of 112 pregnant women.

    There were no differences in the prevalence rate of any anxiety disorder among the patient with HG vs comparative group (9% vs 3%, P > 0.05) and depressive disorder in women with HG vs comparative group (16% vs 8%, P > 0.05) respectively. There were associations between HG and gravida, past history of miscarriage, and gestational diabetes (P < 0.05). After adjustment, only past history of gestational diabetes was associated with HG as a protective factor (AOR 0.034 95% CI 0.002-0.181; P = 0.0014). We found that women in the HG group tended to score statistically significantly higher than the comparison group for depressive symptoms in the HADS Depression subscale (P = 0.041).

    Traditional in-person **** Oral Examinations (IP-MOEs) are utilized by surgery residency programs to prepare trainees for the American Board of Surgery Certifying Exam (ABS-CE). However, the COVID-19 Pandemic has led to a profound disruption of on-campus and in-person educational activities, with subsequent instantaneous revolutionization of educational systems all over the world, including a massive switch to virtual platforms. Many in-person didactics and examinations were canceled or rescheduled, including the ABS-CE. The study aims to evaluate Virtual MOEs' (V-MOEs) feasibility as a potential alternative to in-person MOEs in residency programs.

    Twenty-five participants-16 general surgery residents (7 females, 9 males) and 9 faculty - in the inaugural Department of Surgery Virtual **** Oral Examination completed an anonymous, voluntary online survey via Microsoft Forms.     The American Council of Academic Plastic Surgeons (ACAPS) Plastic Surgery Recommendation Form is a standardized letter of recommendation (SLOR) used in the plastic surgery resident selection process since 2012. This study aims to evaluate this form and use a multistep survey to optimize this SLOR.

    A 16 question survey was sent via Survey Monkey to 510 ACAPS faculty. The results of this survey were followed up with a live-response survey at the ACAPS Spring Retreat. Consensus was used to modify and create a more optimal SLOR.

A binomial logistic regression was used to determine the association between demographic characteristics and FCMs with attitudes towards functional foods. The logistic regression model was statistically significant at χ2(11) = 48.310 (p less then 0.001) and explained 18.1% of the variance in attitude towards functional food. Of the several predictors, only the FCMs natural content and weight control were statistically significant. A binomial logistic regression was also used to determine the association between demographic characteristics and FCMs with the consumption of functional foods. The logistic regression model was statistically significant at χ2(9) = 37.499 (p less then 0.001) and explained 14.1% of the variance in functional food consumption. Of the eight predictors, three were statistically significant living situation, natural content and health. Findings highlight that when targeting emerging adults, functional food companies could benefit from promoting the natural and health properties of their products.   • Bidens pilosa is an invasive weed that threatens the growth of crops and biodiversity in China. In 2017, suspected bacterial wilt of B. pilosa was discovered in Qinzhou and Beihai, Guangxi, China. A variety of weeds are considered as reservoirs harboring bacterial wilt pathogens, but most do not show obvious symptoms in the field. Identifying the classification status of the B. pilosa bacterial wilt pathogen and exploring its geographical origin might be helpful for clarifying the role of weeds in the circulation of the disease. Phylotyping, sequevar analysis, and cross inoculation of pathogens isolated from B. pilosa and nearby peanut (Arachis hypogaea), balsam gourd (Momordica charantia), and eucalyptus (Eucalyptus robusta) plants were carried out. Three isolates of B. pilosa (Bp01, Bp02, and Bp03) were identified as Ralstonia pseudosolanacearum, race 1, biovar 3, and phylotype I, and belonged to sequevars 17 and 44, and an unknown sequevar. The sequevars isolated from B. pilosa were not completely consistent with those of the nearby hosts, and the virulence of these isolates differed when cross inoculated. The Bp03 sequevar was different from peanut isolate sequevars in the same field and was not identical to any previously designated sequevars. The isolates from B. pilosa and other nearby hosts displayed low or no virulence toward their cross hosts (with wilt incidences less than 33.33%). The sequevars isolated from B. pilosa were not completely consistent with those of the nearby hosts, and the virulence of these isolates differed when cross inoculated. The Bp03 sequevar was different from peanut isolate sequevars in the same field and was not identical to any previously designated sequevars.     Gram-positive anaerobic (GPA) bacteria inhabit different parts of the human body as commensals but can also cause bacteremia. In this retrospective observational study, we analyzed GPA bacteremia pathogens before (2013-2015) and after (2016-2018) the introduction of the matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization-time of flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS).

    We conducted a retrospective observational study by searching the microbiology database to identify all positive GPA blood cultures of patients with GPA bacteremia diagnosed using the new technique, MALDI-TOF MS, between January 1, 2016 and December 31, 2018; and using a conventional phenotypic method between January 1, 2013 and December 31, 2015 at a single tertiary center in Japan. Parvimonas micra (P. micra) (17.5%) was the second most frequently identified GPA (MALDI-TOF MS); we then retrospectively reviewed electronic medical records for 25 P. micra bacteremia cases at our hospital. We also conducted a literature review of published cases in Pl, vertebral spine, intra-abdominal region, pulmonary, and heart valves. Patients with P. micra bacteremia could have good prognosis following appropriate treatment.

    Depression and frailty contribute to the adverse clinical outcome of peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients. However, the interaction between depression and frailty in PD patients remains uncertain. We determined the prevalence of depression and frailty in prevalent Chinese PD patients, dissected the internal relationship between depression and frailty, and determined their relative contribution to the adverse clinical outcome in PD patients.

    In a prospective observational study, we recruited 267 prevalent PD patients. Depression was identified by Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9). Frailty was identified by a validated Frailty Score. All cases were followed for one year. Outcome measures included number and duration of hospitalization, peritonitis rate, and all-cause mortality.

    Of the 267 patients, 197 patients (73.8%) were depressed, and 157 (58.8%) were frail. There was a substantial overlap between depression and frailty. Although depression and frailty were associated the number and duration of hospitalization by univariate analysis, the association became insignificant after adjusting for confounding factors by multivariate analysis. Both depression and frailty were associated with one-year mortality by univariate analysis. One-year patient survival was 95.9, 86.5, 82.4 and 71.0% for patients with nil, mild, moderate and severe frailty, respectively (p = 0.001). Frailty was an independent predictor of patient survival by multivariate analysis (adjusted hazard ratio 1.424, 95% confidence interval 1.011-2.005. p = 0.043), while the prognostic effect of depression disappears after adjusting for frailty score.

    There is a lack of firm knowledge regarding sexual problems and fertility-related distress in young adults following a diagnosis with cancer. Establishing such understanding is essential to identify patients in need of specific support and to develop cancer care accordingly. This study protocol describes the Fex-Can Cohort study, a population-based prospective cohort study investigating sexual dysfunction and fertility-related distress in young adults diagnosed with cancer in Sweden. The primary objective of the study is to determine the prevalence and predictors of sexual dysfunction and fertility-related distress following a cancer diagnosis in young adulthood compared to prevalence rates for the general population. Further aims are to investigate the trajectories of these issues over time, the co-existence between sexual dysfunction and fertility-related distress, and the relation between these issues and body image, anxiety and depression, health-related quality of life, self-efficacy related to sexualidy will determine the prevalence and predictors of sexual dysfunction and fertility-related distress in young men and women with cancer. The findings will form a basis for developing interventions to alleviate sexual problems and fertility-related distress in young adults with cancer in the short and long term.
