Simulations of the piecewise-linear agent model show that there exist two-level and three-level hierarchical solutions and that each agent exhibits a transition from nonergodic to ergodic behaviors. While the mean-field interaction resulting from the global coupling favors global synchrony, the nearest-neighbor interaction may have cooperative or competitive effects depending on the sign and the magnitude of the nearest-neighbor coupling. For unimodal and symmetric frequency distributions, we demonstrate that as a result, the model in the stationary state exhibits in contrast to the usual Kuramoto model both continuous and first-order transitions between synchronized and incoherent phases, with the transition lines meeting at a tricritical point. Our results are based on numerical integration of the dynamics as well as an approximate theory involving appropriate averaging of fluctuations in the stationary state.

    Several studies have proposed that the advanced lung cancer inflammation index (ALI), a new inflammation-related index, can be used for the prognosis assessment of various malignancies. However, few studies have reported its prognostic value in colorectal cancer (CRC). Therefore, this study explored the relationship between ALI and outcomes in CRC patients.

    A total of 662 CRC patients who underwent surgery between 2012 and 2014 were included. The ALI was defined as body mass index × serum albumin/neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio. The X-tile program identified the optimal cut-off value of ALI. Logistic regression analyses determined factors affecting postoperative complications. The Kaplan-Meier method and Cox proportional hazards analyses evaluated potential prognostic factors.

    The optimal cut-off of ALI in males and females were 31.6 and 24.4, respectively. Low-ALI was an independent risk factor for postoperative complications in CRC patients (odds ratio 1.933, 95% CI [1.283-2.911],
    =0.002). Low-ALI groups also had significantly lower progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS), when compared with the high-ALI group, especially at advance tumor stages. Using multivariate analysis, ALI was determined as an independent prognostic factor for PFS (hazard ratio 1.372, 95% CI [1.060-1.777],
    =0.016) and OS (hazard ratio 1.453, 95% confidence interval 1.113-1.898,

Results revealed that Block design (as a visuospatial reasoning measure) accounted for mathematical performance, especially among 6- and 7-year-olds but not in 8-year-olds. After controlling for the effect of the block design, mental rotation and manual dexterity predicted mathematical performance. Hence, a deeper understanding of population dynamics, their dependance on environmental constraints and multispecies interactions may help to achieve long-term sustainable use of this resource.   • Clinical practice guidelines recommend physical health be addressed when treating substance use disorders. Yet, the integration of alcohol and other drug (AOD) treatment and physical health care is seldom actualised. This is particularly the case in the non-government sector. Using the socio-ecological model as a framework, this study aimed to examine the facilitators and barriers to integrating physical health in non-government AOD services.

    Interviews were conducted with residential and outpatient AOD services across New South Wales, Australia. Qualitative data were collected from service users (n = 20) and clinicians (n = 13). Interview data were transcribed then systematically coded and analysed using iterative categorisation.

    Most staff recognised physical health care as a fundamental component of treatment for substance use even when there were personal, professional and structural barriers for doing so. Service users reported a diverse range of health and social benefits when physical health carets regarding their experiences with external providers. The effectiveness of existing and new physical health initiatives within non-government organisation AOD services needs more formal evaluation.
    This study aimed to analyze margin status and the impact of the immune elements on recurrence in patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC), employing a prognostic biomarker, cumulative suppressive index (CSI), which reflects FoxP3+, PD-L1+, and CD8+ cell spatial relationships in the tumor microenvironment.

    Cox proportional hazards regression was used to evaluate the interactive effect of the margin by CSI discrepancy (high, 3-4 vs low, 0-2) on recurrence free survival (RFS) and overall survival (OS) in 119 patients with stage I to IVA OSCC.

    In cases with negative margins, multivariable analysis showed high CSI was significantly associated with worse RFS (HR = 2.59, 95% CI [1.03, 6.49], P = .04) and OS (HR = 5.49, 95% CI [1.48, 20.35], P = .01) compared to low CSI. However, high CSI was not significantly associated with recurrence in cases with positive margins.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the methods and results of the first year of structured implementation of a colorectal ERAS program in two surgical units of the Azienda Sanitaria Unica Regionale (ASUR) Marche in Italy. A two-center observational study on a prospectively maintained database was performed on 196 consecutive colorectal resections (excluding emergencies and American Society of Anesthesiologists class > III cases) over a 1-year period. More than 50 variables including adherence to the individual items of the ERAS program were considered. Primary outcomes were overall morbidity, major morbidity, mortality and anastomotic leakage rates; secondary outcomes were LOS, re-admission and re-operation. The results were evaluated by univariate and multivariate analyses through logistic regression. After a median follow-up of 39.5 days, we recorded complications in 72 patients (overall morbidity 36.7%), major complications in 14 patients (major morbidity 7.1%), 6 deaths (mortality 3.1%), anastomotic dehiscence in 9 cases (4.9%), mean overall LOS of 6.6 days, 10 readmissions (5.1%) and 13 reoperations (6.7%). The mean adherence rate to the items of the ERAS program was 85.4%, showing a significant dose-effect curve for overall and major morbidity rates, anastomotic leakage rates and LOS. As the experiments were performed during the night, the microorganisms were greater in size than normal, indicating that they were in the process of division. Our results show that when normal in size, the microorganism's U-turn time is modified by the light wavelength (lower for blue light than for green and red light), but RF fields do not affect that U-turn time dependence on the light wavelength. For the microorganism in the process of division, we describe for the first time how the photokinesis and U-turn time dependence on the light wavelength disappear. It is proposed that methyl-accepting chemotaxis proteins are involved in that light wavelength dependence for the U-turn time, but still more studies are necessary to understand how RF fields cancel the photokinesis light wavelength dependence, but do not affect the dependence of the U-turn time.

    Clinical practice guidelines recommend physical health be addressed when treating substance use disorders. Yet, the integration of alcohol and other drug (AOD) treatment and physical health care is seldom actualised. This is particularly the case in the non-government sector. Using the socio-ecological model as a framework, this study aimed to examine the facilitators and barriers to integrating physical health in non-government AOD services. Interviews were conducted with residential and outpatient AOD services across New South Wales, Australia. Qualitative data were collected from service users (n = 20) and clinicians (n = 13). Interview data were transcribed then systematically coded and analysed using iterative categorisation. Most staff recognised physical health care as a fundamental component of treatment for substance use even when there were personal, professional and structural barriers for doing so. Service users reported a diverse range of health and social benefits when physical health carets regarding their experiences with external providers. The effectiveness of existing and new physical health initiatives within non-government organisation AOD services needs more formal evaluation. This study aimed to analyze margin status and the impact of the immune elements on recurrence in patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC), employing a prognostic biomarker, cumulative suppressive index (CSI), which reflects FoxP3+, PD-L1+, and CD8+ cell spatial relationships in the tumor microenvironment. Cox proportional hazards regression was used to evaluate the interactive effect of the margin by CSI discrepancy (high, 3-4 vs low, 0-2) on recurrence free survival (RFS) and overall survival (OS) in 119 patients with stage I to IVA OSCC. In cases with negative margins, multivariable analysis showed high CSI was significantly associated with worse RFS (HR = 2.59, 95% CI [1.03, 6.49], P = .04) and OS (HR = 5.49, 95% CI [1.48, 20.35], P = .01) compared to low CSI. The purpose of this study is to analyze the methods and results of the first year of structured implementation of a colorectal ERAS program in two surgical units of the Azienda Sanitaria Unica Regionale (ASUR) Marche in Italy. A two-center observational study on a prospectively maintained database was performed on 196 consecutive colorectal resections (excluding emergencies and American Society of Anesthesiologists class > III cases) over a 1-year period. More than 50 variables including adherence to the individual items of the ERAS program were considered. Primary outcomes were overall morbidity, major morbidity, mortality and anastomotic leakage rates; secondary outcomes were LOS, re-admission and re-operation. The results were evaluated by univariate and multivariate analyses through logistic regression. After a median follow-up of 39.5 days, we recorded complications in 72 patients (overall morbidity 36.7%), major complications in 14 patients (major morbidity 7.1%), 6 deaths (mortality 3.1%), anastomotic dehiscence in 9 cases (4.9%), mean overall LOS of 6.6 days, 10 readmissions (5.1%) and 13 reoperations (6.7%). Our results show that when normal in size, the microorganism's U-turn time is modified by the light wavelength (lower for blue light than for green and red light), but RF fields do not affect that U-turn time dependence on the light wavelength. For the microorganism in the process of division, we describe for the first time how the photokinesis and U-turn time dependence on the light wavelength disappear. It is proposed that methyl-accepting chemotaxis proteins are involved in that light wavelength dependence for the U-turn time, but still more studies are necessary to understand how RF fields cancel the photokinesis light wavelength dependence, but do not affect the dependence of the U-turn time.   • Pseudomonas aeruginosa (PA) is a globally recognized cause of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs). The aim of our cross-sectional study, conducted in a Serbian tertiary care hospital, was to investigate clinical characteristics of HAIs caused by the PA, the prevalence of various drug-resistant phenotypes of this pathogen, and risk factors for their occurrence. Prolonged ICU stay and previous carbapenem administration were independent risk factors for HAIs caused by carbapenem-resistant PA, while HAIs caused by multidrug-resistant PA were more frequent in patients with prolonged stay in an ICU, who were previously hospitalized at another department and previously treated with aminoglycosides, fluoroquinolones or glycopeptides. The prolonged ICU stay was the only significant risk factor for HAIs caused by extensively drug-resistant PA. To decrease the incidence of HAIs caused by drug-resistant PA, a multifaceted approach is necessary, including staff education, antibiotic stewardship, improving hygiene, shortening hospitalization, and minimizing exposure to invasive medical procedures/devices.The characteristics and serological responses of primary syphilis are not completely understood. There were 111 cases of primary syphilis in MSM, the median age was 46 (IQR = 37-53years) and 40 (36%) were living with HIV. Fifty percent of MSM presented with painful lesions and 14% with extra-genital lesions. Extra-genital lesions were significantly more likely to be painful than non-genital lesions (OR 4.72; 95%CI = 1.25-17.83, p = 0.02). Overall, a reactive serological response demonstrated a sensitivity of 80% (57/71) compared with Treponema pallidum PCR. Serology was more sensitive in MSM with no previous syphilis (OR = 3.38, 95%CI = 1.00-11.43, p  less then  0.05). MSM presenting with painless lesions were more likely to be treated presumptively (OR = 3.39, 95%CI = 1.38-8.33, p  less then  0.002). There were no differences in the characteristics, serological responses or management according to HIV status. Women completed an anonymous online survey evaluating interest in POC STI testing, comfort in self-collecting vaginal swabs and participant reaction to a positive STI result. 138 participants completed the anonymous online survey. The survey results indicate high acceptability with self-collection of samples and home POC STI testing. A majority of participants were interested or very interested in a home POC STI device-especially amongst women with a past history of a STI.

  • Transdisciplinary research and generalist practice both face the task of integrating and discerning the value of knowledge across disciplinary and sectoral knowledge cultures. Transdisciplinarity and generalism also both offer philosophical and practical insights into the epistemology, ontology, axiology, and logic of seeing the 'whole'. Although generalism is a skill that can be used in many settings from industry to education, the focus of this paper is the literature of the primary care setting (i.e., general practice or family medicine). Generalist philosophy and practice in the family medicine setting highly values whole person care that uses integrative and interpretive wisdom to include both biomedical and biographical forms of knowledge. Generalist researchers are often caught between reductionist (positivist) biomedical measures and social science (post-positivist) constructivist theories of knowing. Neither of these approaches, even when juxtaposed in mixed-methods research, approximate the complenary Generalism - a coherent epistemology for both primary care researchers and generalist clinicians to understand, enact, and research their own sophisticated craft of managing diverse forms of knowledge.Rising temperature associated with climate change may have substantial impacts on forest tree functions. We conducted a 7-year warming experiment in subtropical China by translocating important native forest tree species (Machilas breviflora, Syzygium rehderianum, Schima superba and Itea chinensis) from cooler high-elevation sites (600 m) to 1-2°C warmer low-elevation sites (300 and 30 m) to investigate warming effects on leaf hydraulic and economic traits. Here, we report data from the last 3 years (Years 5-7) of the experiment. Warming increased leaf hydraulic conductance of S. superba to meet the higher evaporative demand. M. breviflora (300 m), S. rehderianum, S. superba and I. chinensis (300 and 30 m) exhibited higher area-based and mass-based maximum photosynthetic rates (Aa and Am , respectively) related to increasing stomatal conductance (gs ) and stomatal density in the wet season, which led to rapid growth; however, we observed decreased growth of M. breviflora at 30 m due to lower stomatal density and decreased Aa in the wet season. Warming increased photosynthetic nitrogen-use efficiency and photosynthetic phosphorus-use efficiency, but reduced leaf dry mass per unit area due to lower leaf thickness, suggesting that these tree species allocated more resources into upregulating photosynthesis rather than into structural investment. Our findings highlight that there was trait variation in the capacity of trees to acclimate to warmer temperatures such that I. chinensis may benefit from warming, but S. superba may be negatively influenced by warming in future climates.

    A total of fifty-six patients were purposively selected from two old age homes through convenience sampling technique. To assess the oral health status WHO basic oral health survey form (1997) was used. Short version of Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP - 14) questionnaire was used to assess the Oral Health Related Quality of Life (OHRQoL). Independent t-test and ANOVA test was done to determine the relationship between the groups.

    Presence or absence of grossly decayed teeth, chronic periodontitis, based on edentulism and remaining sound teeth status produced no significant differences in any of the domains. In comparison with males, females experienced greater impact of oral diseases with respect to mean OHIP-14 score; however, it was non - significant (p=0.45).

    Computer-assisted implant surgery (CAIS) can facilitate accuracy of single implant placement, but little is known with regards to parallelism between multiple implants.

    To compare the accuracy of position and parallelism of two implants, using static and dynamic CAIS systems.

    Thirty patients received two implants (60 implants) randomly allocated to two different CAIS systems. Implant three-dimensional deviation and parallelism was calculated after surgery.

    The mean 3D deviation in the static and dynamic CAIS group at implant platform were 1.04 ± 0.67 vs 1.24 ± 0.39 mm, at apex were 1.54 ± 0.79 vs 1.58 ± 0.56 mm and angulation were 4.08° ± 1.69° vs 3.78° ± 1.84°, respectively. The angle deviations between two placed implants (parallelism) in static and dynamic CAIS groups were 4.32° ± 2.44° and 3.55° ± 2.29°, respectively. There were no statistically significant differences in all parameters between groups.

We induced the adipogenic differentiation of human bone marrow mesenchymal cells (hMSCs) and then performed small RNA transcriptomic sequencing, leading us to identify tsRNA-06018 as a target of interest based upon resultant the tsRNA expression profiles. When tsRNA-06018 was knocked down, this led to the inhibition of adipogenesis and a decrease in adipogenic marker expression. When STC2 was overexpressed, this impaired the adipogenic differentiation of these cells. We further used luciferase reporter assays to confirm that tsRNA-06018 directly binds the 3'-untranslated region (3'-UTR) of STC2. In addition, we determined that both knocking down tsRNA-06018 and overexpressing STC2 increased extracellular signal-regulated kinase 1/2 (ERK1/2) phosphorylation within cells.

Furthermore, regression analyses revealed, for every reading measure, a significant contribution of one morphological test in addition to grapheme knowledge. Results indicate that expert players of Morra largely outperformed non-experts in the randomness scores only within Morra games, whereas in RNGT the two groups were very similar. Importantly, survey data acquired after the games indicate that expert players have very poor conscious recall of their number generation strategies used during the Morra game.   • Metal-halide perovskites are rapidly emerging as solution-processable optical materials for light-emitting applications. Here, we adopt a plasmonic metamaterial approach to enhance photoluminescence emission and extraction of methylammonium lead iodide (MAPbI3) thin films based on the Purcell effect. We show that hybridization of the active metal-halide film with resonant nanoscale sized slits carved into a gold film can yield more than 1 order of magnitude enhancement of luminescence intensity and nearly 3-fold reduction of luminescence lifetime corresponding to a Purcell enhancement factor of more than 300. These results show the effectiveness of resonant nanostructures in controlling metal-halide perovskite light emission properties over a tunable spectral range, a viable approach toward highly efficient perovskite light-emitting devices and single-photon emitters.Free energy analysis of solvation structures of free divalent cations, their ion pairs, and neutral aggregates in low dielectric solvents reveals the multiplicity of thermodynamically stable cation solvation configurations and identifies the micro- and macroscopic factors responsible for this phenomenon. Specifically, we show the role of ion-solvent interactions and solvent mixtures in determining the cation solvation free energy landscapes. We show that it is the entropic contribution of solvent degrees of freedom that is responsible for the solvation multiplicity, and the mutual balance between enthalpic and entropic forces or their concerted contributions is what ultimately defines the most stable ion solvation configuration and creates new ones. We show general consequences of ion solvation multiplicity on thermodynamics of complex electrolytes, specifically in the context of homogeneous or interfacial charge transfer. Identified factors and their interplay provide a pathway to formulation of solvation design rules that can be used to control bulk solvation, interfacial chemistry, and charge transfer. Here, we report the joint application of room temperature proton-detected NMR spectroscopy under fast magic angle spinning (MAS) and dynamic nuclear polarization surface enhanced NMR spectroscopy (DNP-SENS), to obtain the 195Pt solid-state NMR spectra of a prototypical example of highly dispersed Pt sites (single site or single atom), here prepared via surface organometallic chemistry, by grafting [(COD)Pt(OSi(OtBu)3)2] (1, COD = 1,5-cyclooctadiene) on partially dehydroxylated silica (1@SiO 2 ). Compound 1@SiO 2 has a Pt loading of 3.7 wt %, a surface area of 200 m2/g, and a surface Pt density of around 0.6 Pt site/nm2. Fast MAS 1H195Pt dipolar-HMQC and S-REDOR experiments were implemented on both the molecular precursor 1 and on the surface complex 1@SiO 2 , providing access to 195Pt isotropic shifts and Pt-H distances, respectively. For 1@SiO 2 , the measured isotropic shift and width of the shift distribution constrain fits of the static wide-line DNP-enhanced 195Pt spectrum, allowing the 195Pt chemical shift tensor parameters to be determined. The optimum conditions for CFX removal using PAMNA were found to be pH 6, 10 mM NaCl, contact time 90 min, and adsorption dosage 5 mg/mL. The CFX adsorption isotherms and kinetics were in accordance with the two-step and pseudo-second-order models, respectively. The application for CFX removal in actual hospital wastewater was greater than 80%. The results of this study demonstrate that PAMNA is a new and promising material for antibiotic removal from wastewater.
