We review the main genes underlying commercial traits in cut flower species and critically discuss the possibility to apply genome editing approaches to produce novel variation and phenotypes. The demand for total joint arthroplasty (TJA) is increasing worldwide with excellent long-term results. In general, TJA provides several benefits to the patients but also causes possible complications. The aim of our study was to describe trends in mortality after TJA in a high-volume arthroplasty center, and to examine the potential risk factors.
From 1996 to 2018, a total of 103,560 patients (73,130 primary cases, 30,430 revision cases) underwent a TJA procedure in our institution. Anthropometric parameters, Charlson Comorbidity Index (CCI), pre- and postoperative hemoglobin (Hb), blood loss during surgery, postoperative complication (such as infection, deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, etc.) and cause of death from all patients who deceased during hospitalization were collected. The short-term mortality rate was analyzed between the primary and the revision groups.
The short-term mortality rate within our investigated groups was low with 0.041% in primary THA, 0.299% in revision THA, 0.045% irmed at specialized centers under standardized conditions.
This is the largest single-center study presenting the short-term mortality rate following TJA. Consequently, TJA is a safe procedure with a low short-term mortality rate. However, depending on the type of surgery, certain risk factors cannot be eliminated. In order to further reduce the mortality, procedures as such should continue to be performed at specialized centers under standardized conditions.
Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) are essential to patient-centered care in orthopaedics. PROMIS measures have demonstrated reliability, validity, responsiveness, and minimal floor and ceiling effects in various populations of patients receiving orthopaedic care but have not yet been examined in hip fracture patients. This pilot study sought to evaluate the psychometric performance of the PROMIS Physical Function (PROMIS PF) and Pain Interference (PROMIS PI) computer adaptive tests and compare these instruments with legacy outcome measures in hip fracture patients.
This study included 67 patients who were 27-96years old (median 76) and underwent osteosynthesis for a proximal femoral fracture. At 3, 6, and/or 12months follow-up, patients completed both legacy (mHHS, SF-36-PCS, and VAS for pain) and PROMIS questionnaires (PROMIS PF and PROMIS PI). Respondent burden and floor/ceiling effects were calculated for each outcome measure. Correlation was calculated to determine concurrent validity between t relative to the legacy outcome measures.
The results of this study support the validity of PROMIS CATs for use in hip fracture patients. The PROMIS PF was significantly correlated with SF-36 PCS and mHHS while requiring fewer question items per patient relative to the legacy outcome measures.

Improving bean flavor and texture through breeding has the potential to improve consumer acceptance and suitability for new end-use products. Little is known about genetic variability and inheritance of bean sensory characteristics. A total of 430 genotypes of the Andean Diversity Panel representing twenty seed types were grown in three locations, and cooked seeds were evaluated by a trained sensory panel for flavor and texture attribute intensities, including total flavor, beany, vegetative, earthy, starchy, sweet, bitter, seed-coat perception, and cotyledon texture. Extensive variation in sensory attributes was found across and within seed types. A set of genotypes was identified that exhibit extreme attribute intensities generally stable across all three environments.
