05) for grass pollen. Quality of life based on the Rhinoconjunctivitis Quality of Life Questionnaire was significantly improved in patients who received SLIT and remained at a good level after 5 years of observation. https://www.selleckchem.com/ During the 5 years of observation after SLIT, there were no significant changes between specific IgG
levels and the analysed allergens compared to results just after SLIT.
The positive effect obtained after SLIT for grass pollen or house dust mites was sustained for a long period after AIT.

Bullous pemphigoid (BP) is the most common autoimmune blistering disease. Although pruritus is a leading symptom in BP, its specific characteristics have not been explored.
To determine the itch characteristics in newly diagnosed BP patients by using the Questionnaire of Descriptive Assessment of Pruritus and visual analogue scale (VAS) and to correlate itch with disease severity.
The study included 32 patients with BP (mean age 75.4 ±12.2 years; 20 women, 12 men), who filled in the questionnaire. Bullous Pemphigoid Disease Area Index (BPDAI) was assessed.
In 78.1% of BP patients pruritus occurred at least once daily. Pruritus was most frequent in the evening and at night and frequently persisted for more than 10 min in more than a half of patients (long itch episodes). Aggravating factors were sweating (50.0%), heat (59.4%) and stress (46.9%), but the major relieving factor was cold (34.4%). Itch intensity in BP was assessed as moderate (mean VAS score 5.8 points) and did not correlate with disease severity (BPDAI). BP patients declared difficulties caused by pruritus falling asleep (53.1%) and awakening at night (50%).
This study provided detailed characteristics in BP patients confirming that pruritus is classified as an important troublesome symptom. Therefore there is a need to search for therapeutic solutions.

Even though uremic pruritus (UP) is very troublesome for haemodialysis (HD) patients, its underlying mechanism is not fully understood.
Due to the possible role of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and its higher serum concentration in haemodialysis diabetic patients compared to non-diabetic ones, this study is aimed to evaluate its association with UP among diabetic and non-diabetic patients on maintenance HD.
A total of 94 patients were enrolled into the study. A visual analogue scale (VAS) was used to assess pruritus.
No differences were found between the observed study groups in terms of BDNF serum concentration, other biochemical markers, sleep disturbances, or pruritus presentation.
BDNF serum concentration was not found to be associated with UP among HD patients, however further studies are worth performing on a larger group of individuals.

The aim of periocular basal cell carcinoma (BCC) surgery is radical excision of the tumour while maintaining eyelid functionality and facial aesthetics. Differences in management of the patients after excision of eyelid ****with a narrow margin are described in the literature.
This study concerns the correlation between the recurrence rate in the periorbital area and the narrow safety margin of excision in the histopathological report with respect to various clinical and histopathological features.
A retrospective non-randomized analysis was conducted on 158 patients with ****of the periorbital area. These patients were operated on between January 2002 and December 2016. A database was created, comprised of patient age, sex, location of the lesion, TNM, method of reconstruction, result of the histopathological examination, date and location of the recurrence.
In 66 (41.77%) patients ****was radically removed. In 50 (31.65%) patients ****was removed with a narrow margin and in 42 (26.58%) cases, radical excision was not achieved. The recurrence rate was significantly higher in the aggressive ****group compared to those with non-aggressive BCC (
= 0.004). The recurrence-free rate for non-aggressive subtypes was 98.11% in both the first and fifth years, but in aggressive subtypes it was 89.06% in the first year but fell to 80.16% in the fifth year.
An aggressive subtype of ****significantly influences the risk of non-radical excision of the lesion. Aggressive ****subtypes should have more frequent check-ups. There is no need to reoperate patients with a narrow margin of ****excision.

Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is an autoimmune connective tissue disease with distinguished fibrosis of the skin and internal organs. Vascular damage, immune dysregulation and fibroblasts activation contribute to SSc pathogenesis. Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ (PPAR-γ) can be a link between cell metabolism and fibrosis in SSc due to its anti-fibrotic and immunomodulatory properties.
To measure the serum level of PPAR-γ in SSc patients and correlate it with the SSc subtype, hs-CRP, disease duration, vascular and internal organ involvement.
Twenty-two SSc patients (15 limited SSc, 7 diffuse SSc) matched with healthy controls were analysed. Clinical and laboratory data were collected including specific antibodies, interstitial lung disease, oesophageal involvement, digital pitting scars, disease duration, Raynaud's phenomenon (RP) and modified Rodnan skin score (mRSS). PPAR-γ levels were analysed by ELISA. Statistical analysis was performed with χ
, Student's
-test and Mann-Whitney-
test. Peic adipose tissue, reperfused vessels or ischemic tissues needs assessing. Also the biological meaning or effect of elevated serum PPAR-γ requires further studies.
