Bangladesh is a country of natural disasters and climatic hazards, which frequently affect its inhabitants' lives and livelihoods. Among the various risks and disasters, floods are the most frequent hazard that makes haor households vulnerable. Therefore, this study was undertaken to estimate livelihood vulnerability to flooding within the flood-prone haor ecosystem in Bangladesh. Primary data were collected from 100 haor households each from Kishoreganj, Netrokona, and Sunamganj districts (N = 300) by applying a multistage random sampling technique. Data were collected through face-to-face interviews using a pretested structured questionnaire. The Livelihood Vulnerability Index (LVI) and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) framework of vulnerability were applied to compare vulnerabilities among the selected haor-based communities. The empirical results revealed that haor households in Sunamganj district were more vulnerable to flood hazard and natural disaster in terms of food, water, and health than households in the other two districts. Taking into account the major components of the LVI, the IPCC framework of vulnerability indicated that households in Sunamganj district were the most vulnerable due to their lowest adaptive capacity and highest sensitivity and exposure. These findings enable policymakers to formulate and implement effective strategies and programs to minimize vulnerability and enhance resilience by improving the livelihoods of the vulnerable haor households of Bangladesh, especially those in Sunamganj district.Lysins are a class of hydrolytic enzymes used by bacteriophages to target and cleave the peptidoglycan of bacterial cell walls during their lytic cycle. The lysins from bacteriophages that infect Gram-positive bacteria are typically monomeric and consist of one or two catalytic domains (CD) and a cell binding domain (CBD). However, multimeric lysins encoded by a single gene have also been reported, among which Lys170 from enterococcal phage F170/08 was one of the first identified. Here, we determined the crystal structure of Lys170 CBD at 1.40 Å resolution. The structure reveals that Lys170 CBDs assemble into a tetrameric functional unit and that each monomer folds into a three-stranded β-sheet core capped on each side by an α-helix. In addition, we identified key residues of Lys170 CBD involved in host cell binding. Our work provides a basis for designing highly efficient lysins targeting Enterococcus faecalis.
Platinum Group Metals (PGMs) are mined and refined together and have the potential to elicit adverse respiratory and skin health effects. The aim of this study was to investigate the simultaneous skin and respiratory exposure of precious metals refinery workers to all six soluble PGMs.

The simultaneous skin and respiratory exposure to soluble PGMs of forty workers at two precious metals refineries were measured over two consecutive work shifts using Ghostwipes™ and Methods for the Determination of Hazardous Substances method 46/2. Skin exposure was measured on the palm, wrist, neck, and forehead of workers.

The highest geometric mean (GM) skin exposure (average of palm, wrist, neck and forehead) was found for soluble Pt (0.008µg/cm
) [95% confidence interval (CI) 0.005-0.013], followed, in order, by Rh, Ir, Pd, Ru, and Os. Significantly higher concentrations of soluble PGMs were found on the palm and wrist compared to the neck and forehead (p < 0.0001). The highest GM respiratory exposure was found for soluble Pd (0.342µg/m
[95% CI 0.163-0.718]) followed, in order, by Pt, Rh, Ru, Ir, and Os. Skin exposure to all soluble PGMs was positively correlated with respiratory exposure (r = 0.466-0.702).

This is the first study to report skin exposure to all six soluble PGMs. Precious metals refinery workers were exposed to quantifiable concentrations of soluble PGMs via both the skin and inhalation. Exposure via both routes occurred together and control measures should be aimed at reducing both skin and respiratory exposure.

The two mammalian GSK3 proteins (alpha and beta) are at least partially redundant. While Gsk3a KO **** are viable and display a metabolic phenotype, abnormal neuronal development, and accelerated aging, Gsk3b KO animals die late in embryogenesis or at birth. Selective Gsk3b KO in bone delays development of some bones, whereas cartilage-specific Gsk3b KO **** are normal except for elevated levels of GSK3A protein. However, the collective role of these two GSK3 proteins in cartilage was not evaluated. To address this, we generated tamoxifen-inducible, cartilage-specific Gsk3a/Gsk3b KO (described as "cDKO") in juvenile **** and investigated their skeletal phenotypes. We found that cartilage-specific Gsk3a/Gsk3b deletion in young, skeletally immature **** causes precocious growth plate (GP) remodeling, culminating in shorter long bones and hence, growth retardation. These **** exhibit ineff articular cartilage compared to growth plate.
High cochlear signal intensity on three-dimensional (3D) T2 fluid-attenuated inversion recovery (FLAIR) sequences in patients with sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSNHL) has been reported. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/ctpi-2.html Here, we evaluated the cochlear T2 relaxation time differences in patients with idiopathic SSNHL using quantitative synthetic MRI (SyMRI).

Twenty-four patients with unilateral SSNHL who underwent precontrast conventional 3D FLAIR and SyMRI were retrospectively included. T1 and T2 relaxation times and the proton density (PD) of the bilateral ears were measured by manually drawn regions of interest. Wilcoxon signed-rank tests and intra- and interobserver correlation analyses were performed. Qualitative analysis was also performed to determine the presence and laterality of the asymmetric high signal intensity on synthetic FLAIR (SyFLAIR) images.

The T2 relaxation time was significantly lower in the affected (basal and apico-middle turns) than in the unaffected cochlea (basal turn 519 ± 181.3 vs. 608.8 ± 203.6, p = 0.
