h the accuracy to spatially sample targets <3.0mm in diameter with 95% confidence. Future work will integrate the developed system with the Radialis PEM system toward combined PEM-US-guided breast biopsy.
We demonstrated the utility of our mechatronic guidance system for targeted breast biopsy under high-resolution PEM localization. Breast phantom studies showed the ability to accurately guide, position, and target breast lesions with the accuracy to spatially sample targets less then 3.0 mm in diameter with 95% confidence. Future work will integrate the developed system with the Radialis PEM system toward combined PEM-US-guided breast biopsy.Semiconductor technology, which is rapidly evolving, is poised to enter a new era for which revolutionary innovations are needed to address fundamental limitations on material and working principle level. 2D semiconductors inherently holding novel properties at the atomic limit show great promise to tackle challenges imposed by traditional bulk semiconductor materials. Synergistic combination of 2D semiconductors with functional ferroelectrics further offers new working principles, and is expected to deliver massively enhanced device performance for existing complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) technologies and add unprecedented applications for next-generation electronics. Herein, recent demonstrations of novel device concepts based on 2D semiconductor/ferroelectric heterostructures are critically reviewed covering their working mechanisms, device construction, applications, and challenges. In particular, emerging opportunities of CMOS-process-compatible 2D semiconductor/ferroelectric transistor structure devices for the development of a rich variety of applications are discussed, including beyond-Boltzmann transistors, nonvolatile memories, neuromorphic devices, and reconfigurable nanodevices such as p-n homojunctions and self-powered photodetectors. It is concluded that 2D semiconductor/ferroelectric heterostructures, as an emergent heterogeneous platform, could drive many more exciting innovations for modern electronics, beyond the capability of ubiquitous silicon systems. To assess the impact of socioeconomic status (SES) on the occurrence of skin cancer in the population living in the province of Ferrara, Italy, a retrospective cohort of patients with squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), basal cell carcinoma (BCC) or malignant melanoma (MM), provided by the local cancer registry, was investigated. The SES was expressed through an ecological-based deprivation index. During the 8-year study period (2006-2013, total person-years 2 859 137), 6051 carcinomas (1535 SCCs, 4365 ****) and 459 MMs were diagnosed. Both crude and standardized (on the European population) rates and the standardized incidence ratio showed a direct correlation between ****and SES. Multivariate analysis confirmed these results for ****and also for MM, while it showed an excess of SCC incidence in the lowest SES subgroup. This study shows, for the first time, to our knowledge, opposite effects of SES on SCC and ****occurrence. A role of environmental factors conditioned by SES may be hypothesized. The fruit trichomes of Cucurbitaceae are widely desired in many Asian countries and have been a key determinant of cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) cultivar selection for commercial production and breeding. However, our understanding of the initiation and development of cucumber trichomes is still limited. Here, we found that the cucumber TINY BRANCHED HAIR (TBH) gene is preferentially expressed in multicellular trichomes. Overexpression of CsTBH in tbh mutants restored the trichome phenotype and increased the percentage of female flowers, whereas silencing of CsTBH in wild-type plants resulted in stunted trichomes with a lower rate of female flowers. Furthermore, we provide evidence that CsTBH can directly bind to the promoters of cucumber 1-Aminocyclopropane-1-Carboxylate Synthase (CsACS) genes and regulate their expression, which affects multicellular trichome development, ethylene accumulation, and sex expression. Two cucumber acs mutants with different trichome morphology and sex morphs compared with their near-isogenic line further support our findings. Collectively, our study provides new information on the molecular mechanism of CsTBH in regulating multicellular trichome development and sex expression through an ethylene pathway.
To develop an artificial intelligence (AI) agent for fully automated rapid head-and-neck intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) plan generation without time-consuming dose-volume-based inverse planning.
This AI agent was trained via implementing a conditional generative adversarial network (cGAN) architecture. The generator, PyraNet, is a novel deep learning network that implements 28 classic ResNet blocks in pyramid-like concatenations. The discriminator is a customized four-layer DenseNet. The AI agent first generates multiple customized two-dimensional projections at nine template beam angles from a patient's three-dimensional computed tomography (CT) volume and structures. These projections are then stacked as four-dimensional inputs of PyraNet, from which nine radiation fluence maps of the corresponding template beam angles are generated simultaneously. Finally, the predicted fluence maps are automatically postprocessed by Gaussian deconvolution operations and imported into a commercial treatmen the AI plans and the TPS plans were comparable without statistical significance. AI plans achieved comparable results for maximum dose at 0.01cc of brainstem (D
=15.0±2.1Gy; D
=15.5±2.7Gy) and cord+5mm (D
=27.5±2.3Gy; D
=25.8±1.9Gy) without clinically relevant differences, but body D
results (D
=121.1±3.9Gy; D
=109.0±0.9Gy) were higher than the TPS plan results. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/msa-2.html The AI agent needed ~3s for predicting fluence maps of an IMRT plan.
With rapid and fully automated execution, the developed AI agent can generate complex head-and-neck IMRT plans with acceptable dosimetry quality. This approach holds great potential for clinical applications in preplanning decision-making and real-time planning.
