Despite extensive ethnographic and qualitative research on traditional healers in Nepal, the role of traditional healers in relation to mental health has not been synthesized. We focused on the following clinically based research question, "What are the processes by which Nepali traditional healers address mental well-being?" We adopted a scoping review methodology to maximize the available literature base and conducted a modified thematic analysis rooted in grounded theory, ethnography, and phenomenology. We searched five databases using terms related to traditional healers and mental health. We contacted key authors and reviewed references for additional literature. Our scoping review yielded 86 eligible studies, 65 of which relied solely on classical qualitative study designs. The reviewed literature suggests that traditional healers use a wide range of interventions that utilize magico-religious explanatory models to invoke symbolic transference, manipulation of local illness narratives, roles, and relationships, cognitive restructuring, meaning-making, and catharsis. Traditional healers' perceived impact appears greatest for mild to moderate forms of psychological distress. However, the methodological and sample heterogeneity preclude uniform conclusions about traditional healing. Further research should employ methods which are both empirically sound and culturally adapted to explore the role of traditional healers in mental health.An interplay between gene expression, mineral concentration, and beef quality traits in Bos indicus muscle has been reported previously under a network approach. However, growing evidence suggested that miRNAs not only modulate gene expression but are also involved with mineral homeostasis. To our knowledge, understanding of the miRNA-gene expression-mineral concentration relationship in mammals is still minimal. Therefore, we carried out a miRNA co-expression and multi-level miRNA-mRNA integration analyses to predict the putative drivers (miRNAs and genes) associated with muscle mineral concentration in Nelore steers. Finally, we reported an intidentified calcium and iron to be the pivotal minerals associated with miRNAs and gene targets. Furthermore, we identified the miR-29 family (miR-29a, -29b, -29c, -29d-3p, and -29e) as the putative key regulators modulating mineral homeostasis. The miR-29 family targets genes involved with AMPK, insulin, mTOR, and thyroid hormone signaling pathways. Finally, we reported an interplay between miRNAs and minerals acting cooperatively to modulate co-expressed genes and signaling pathways both involved with mineral and energy homeostasis in Nelore muscle. Although we provided some evidence to understand this complex relationship, future work should determine the functional implications of minerals for miRNA levels and their feedback regulation system.The cytotoxic drugs cyclophosphamide (CPO) and ifosfamide (IFO) cause toxic urological effects due to the production of urinary metabolites that cause bladder inflammation. This study aimed to identify changes in the bladder afferent system following treatment with these drugs that might explain reported urological adverse effects. Intravesical pressure and afferent nerve activity were recorded during bladder distension and drug administration in isolated bladders from ****, 24 h after intraperitoneal treatment with cyclophosphamide (100 mg/kg), ifosphamide (200 mg/kg) or saline (control). In isolated bladders, total afferent nerve activity at maximum bladder distension was increased from 182 ± 13 imp/s in control animals, to 230 ± 14 imp/s in CPO-treated (p less then 0.05) and 226 ± 17 imp/s in IFO-treated (p less then 0.001) ****. Single fibre analysis revealed the increase resulted from an enhanced activity in low threshold, wide dynamic range fibres (23.3 ± 1.9 imp/s/fibre in controls to 31.5 ± 2.5 (p less then 0.01) in CPO and 29.9 ± 2.0 imp/s/fibre (p less then 0.05) in IFO treated). CPO treatment was accompanied by an increase in urinary frequency in vivo, but was not associated with increases in urothelial release of ATP or acetylcholine, bladder compliance or spontaneous muscle activity. Also, CPO-treatment did not affect afferent nerve responses or pressure responses to purinergic, muscarinic or nicotinic agonists. This is the first report of CPO and IFO-induced changes in specific populations of bladder afferents, namely an increase in low threshold, wide dynamic range fibres. These effects appear to be direct and not secondary to increases in smooth muscle activity or the release of urothelial mediators.Objective To assess the current framework of interventional and diagnostic neuroradiology in Europe METHODS The UEMS (European Union of Medical Specialists) Section of Radiology and the subspecialty UEMS Division of Neuroradiology collected by e-mail a survey on the situation of diagnostic and Interventional Neuroradiology' training and practice in Europe. The questionnaire was sent to the national delegates from 31 UEMS member countries, belonging to the European Union, the European Economic Area and the Council of Europe. In case of uncertain or discordant replies, the survey envisaged the involvement of neuroradiology scientific societies' experts for providing a decisive answer. Results A formal post-residency training in diagnostic and interventional neuroradiology is provided respectively by 12/31 and 20/31 of the European countries. Currently, for becoming neuroradiologist in a country without fellowship program, a radiologist should (1) get subspecialty credits, (2) follow training inside national or international neuroradiology departments, or (3) perform the main reporting activity in neuroradiology. In nearly 2/3 of the States included in the survey, the neurointerventional procedures are provided by radiologists (22/31) and in the most frequent scenario a specific training in neurovascular is required to all radiologist or non-radiologist candidates (18/31). Conclusions The European framework of neuroradiology's training and practice that emerged through this survey is fragmented, but there is an increasing attention by European scientific societies and institutions to create a common path of training and practice that can guarantee high educational and patient care standards.
