METHODS This population-based cross-sectional study recruited 75,653 adults aged ≥ 18 years from 2015 to 2017 with a randomized, multistage, stratified sampling strategy. Serum uric acid levels and urinary iodine concentrations (UICs) were measured. RESULTS Stratified by UIC, the prevalence of hyperuricemia was 17.8%, 18.8%, 16.0% and 13.7% in the UIC less then 100, 100-199, 200-299, and ≥ 300 μg/L groups, respectively; the prevalence of gout was 4.0%, 3.4%, 2.4% and 1.7%, respectively. The prevalence of gout decreased significantly as the UIC increased. The prevalence of hyperuricemia and gout were markedly higher in postmenopausal females than in the premenopausal population (hyperuricemia 15.9% vs. 8.3%, X2 = 520.072, p less then 0.001; gout 3.6% vs. 1.3%, X2 = 219.889, p less then 0.001), and the prevalence decreased as the UIC increased. Subjects in the more than adequate and excessive iodine groups had lower likelihoods of having hyperuricemia [aOR = 0.81 (95% CI 0.77-0.85), aOR = 0.68 (95% CI 0.64-0.72)] and lower odds of having gout than subjects in the adequate iodine (AI) group [aOR = 0.77 (95% CI 0.68-0.86), aOR = 0.59 (95% CI 0.51-0.68)]. CONCLUSIONS UIC was inversely associated with the occurrence of hyperuricemia and gout. More in-depth research and prospective studies are needed to explore the molecular mechanisms and confirm the observed association.Analyze the effects of sequential application of photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) at different wavelengths on the performance of cycling athletes. Photobiomodulation (180 J) with infrared (IR 940 ± 10 nm), red (RED 620 ± 10 nm), mixed Red, and IR (RED/IR 620 + 940 nm) or Sham (disabled device) intervention occurred on three consecutive days and was applied to the quadriceps femoris bilaterally. Reevaluations were performed 24 h after the last application, with 1 week of follow-up. A significance level of 5% was adopted, and the effect size (ES) was calculated by Cohen's d. Results There were no significant differences in the analyzed variables under any experimental condition (p > 0.005), but a moderate effect size was observed for torque peak at 60°/s on left lower limb (LLL) (ES = 0.67), average power at 60°/s of the right lower limb (RLL) (0.73), and LLL (ES = 0.65) and a considerable effect size in torque peak at 60°/s of the RLL (ES = 0.98) in the IR/RED group compared with sham 24 h after the last application. Moreover, a large effect size was observed for total time to exhaustion (ES = 1.98) and for VO2max (ES = 6.96), and a moderate effect size was seen for anaerobic threshold (ES = 0.62) in the IR/RED group compared with sham. Photobiomodulation, when not associated with training, was not able to produce a cumulative effect on the performance of cycling athletes. In this study, possible seismo-ionospheric anomalies before the 2018 Papua New Guinea earthquake (6.0684°S, 142.7678°E, February 25, 2018, 004443 UTC, Mw = 7.5) was investigated by using GPS-TEC variations from four International GNSS Service (IGS) stations (KAT1, TOW2, SOLO and ALIC) near the epicenter and four IGS station (USUD, SHAO, WIND and ZAMB) outside of the EPZ. The earthquake (EQ) is a local phenomenon and space weather conditions (SWCs) are a global phenomenon so that we selected four IGS stations away from the earthquake epicenter, which is at the same latitude and the same longitude with the earthquake to figure out a clear SWCs' effects on the GPS-TEC anomalies. In order to see these effects on ionospheric TEC variations, 10 different SWC indices were used. An analysis of occurrence time and duration of the following conclusions was made both positive and negative anomalies are ensuing, and earthquake-related ionospheric anomalies revealed that they occurred 1 to 7 days before the associated earthquake. At the end of the study, the potential causes of these results were examined. Analysis results revealed that anomalies occurred, and the possible ionospheric GPS-TEC anomalies may be the earthquake precursors obtained 4 to 9 days before the Papua New Guinea earthquake. The increase in scientific research to analyze the seismo-ionospheric anomalies that occur before earthquakes will become an important warning tool to alert people to the devastating environmental effects of earthquakes.The desert harvester ant (Veromessor pergandei) employs a mixture of social and individual navigational strategies at separate stages of their foraging trip. Individuals leave the nest along a pheromone-based column, travelling 3-40 m before spreading out to forage individually in a fan. Foragers use path integration while in this fan, accumulating a direction and distance estimate (vector) to return to the end of the column (column head), yet foragers' potential use of path integration in the pheromone-based column is less understood. Here we show foragers rely on path integration both in the foraging fan and while in the column to return to the nest, using separate vectors depending on their current foraging stage in the fan or column. Returning foragers displaced while in the fan oriented and travelled to the column head location while those displaced after reaching the column travel in the nest direction, signifying the maintenance of a two-vector system with separate fan and column vectors directing a forager to two separate spatial locations.
