We devised a validated version of the IVBSS, indicating the high reproducibility, repeatability and accuracy of the PL-IVBSS and confirming its clinical utility. Despite moderate psychometric properties, our findings support the need for its clinical application and widespread use in stroke units for a reliable assessment of posterior stroke severity.

We herein report a 41-year-old AP musician who developed a right putaminal hemorrhage. On a postoperative day 5, a fluid-attenuated inversion recovery image revealed the rest of the hematoma and edematous lesion at the right white matter between the Heschl's gyrus and other cortices. Diffusion tensor tractography with the region of interest at the Heschl's gyrus was performed. In the left hemisphere, the anterior part of the arcuate fiber and middle longitudinal fasciculus were observed. However, these connections were absent in the right hemisphere, but her AP ability was maintained. Our case suggested that the fibers from the right Heschl's gyrus to the right frontal lobe via the right ventral stream is not associated with AP.
Perifocal edema of brain tumors is associated with survival and neurological symptoms. Our aim was to analyze associations between perifocal edema and immunohistochemical features including proliferation potential, microvessel density, neoangiogenesis and invasiveness in brain metastasis (BM).

35 patients with BM were included into the retrospective study. The tumors were localized supratentorial in 25 lesions (71.4%) and infratentorial in 10 lesions (28.6%). The following immunohistochemical features were calculated on histopathological specimens microvessel density, proliferation index Ki 67, matrix-metallopeptidase 9 (MMP9) extracellular matrix metalloproteinase inducer (EMMPRIN) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) expression. Tumor and edema volumes were estimated semiautomatically on magnetic resonance images.

There were no correlations between tumor volume and edema volume. Moreover, no correlation was identified between the investigated immunohistochemical features and tumor/edema volume. In the non-small cell lung cancer subgroup, a positive correlation between tumor volume and VEGF expression was observed (r = 0.52, P = 0.02) and edema volume correlated inversely with MMP9 expression (r = -0.53, P = 0.02).

In BM, no linear associations exist between tumor volumes, edema volumes and immunohistochemical features reflecting proliferation potential, neoangiogenesis, microvessel density and MMP9 expression. However, in the subgroup of non-small cell lung cancer, there might be associations between MMP9 expression and edema volume as well as between tumor volume and angiogenesis.

Previous studies have shown that home delivery assisted by unskilled individuals contributes to maternal and neonatal deaths in developing countries. It also increases the risks of long-term maternal morbidities such as uterine prolapse, pelvic inflammatory disease, fistula, incontinence and infertility. This study aimed to determine the trends and predictors of the use of unskilled birth attendants among Ethiopian mothers from 2000 to 2016.

This study USED used the Ethiopia Demographic and Health Survey data for the years 2000 (n=10,873), 2005 (n=9,861), 2011 (n=11,654) and 2016 (n=10,641) to estimate the trends in the use of unskilled birth attendants. Multinomial logistic regression models with adjustment for clustering and sampling weights were used to investigate the association between the independent and outcome outcome variables.

The analysis revealed that while births attended by Traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs) increased from 28% in 2000 to 42% in 2016, home deliveries decreased slightly from 94% to 73%. Rural residence is associated with increased odds of using unskilled birth attendants. High and middle household wealth, educational status of the women and their partners (>primary), four or more antenatal care (ANC) visits, having any form of employment and mass media engagement were significantly associated with decreased odds of unskilled birth attendant utilization during child birth in Ethiopia.

The results of this analysis show that the proportion of Ethiopian women giving birth without a skilled attendant is high. Interventions aiming to improve skilled attendance during childbirth should focus on the individual, community and need factors of Anderson's behavioural model.

The underlying technology to the vast majority of these tools are machine learning methods and, in particular, deep learning algorithms. This review offers clinical background information of key diagnostic biomarkers in the diagnosis of glioma, the most common primary brain tumor. It offers an overview of publicly available resources and datasets for developing new computational tools and image biomarkers, with emphasis on those related to the Multimodal Brain Tumor Segmentation (BraTS) Challenge. We further offer an overview of the state-of-the-art methods in glioma image segmentation, again with an emphasis on publicly available tools and deep learning algorithms that emerged in the context of the BraTS challenge.
