To analyse the factors associated with length of stay (LOS) and death in nasogastric/nasoenteric tube (NG/NET)-fed patients.

A cross-sectional multicentre study.

Data collection took place from October 2017-April 2019, and the sample consisted of 365 participants from seven Brazilian hospitals. Demographic, clinical and therapeutic data were collected from the patients' medical records. Data analysis was performed using bivariate and multivariate tests, considering a significance level of p<.05.

Most patients were male, older adults, with high risk of death and highly dependent on nursing care. The LOS was associated with age, patient care complexity and length of NG/NET use. Death was associated with patient age. In the multivariate analysis, patients highly dependent on nursing care, and intensive and semi-intensive care had a greater chance of dying when compared with patients receiving minimal care. Screening for factors affecting LOS and death is important to plan effective nursing care.

Although well established, the Oxford method has some important limitations, such as induction of hypervolemia in small animals and undesired effects of vasoactive drugs on central and peripheral baroreflex components. As an alternative, the sequence method, which consists in the computerized evaluation of naturally-occurring baroreflex adjustments of heart rate without the need for pharmacological administrations, was developed to study baroreflexes. In the present study, we compare this sequence method with the Oxford technique in two teleost species with different life styles, and we assess the optimal software configuration for the employment of the sequence method in fish. Calculation of baroreflex gain through the sequence method was adequate and reliable when the software was configured to search for baroreflex sequences with a minimum length of three cardiac cycles with a delay of one cardiac cycle between fluctuations in mean ventral aortic blood pressure and reflex changes in pulse interval. When properly configured, the sequence and the Oxford methods yielded similar determinations of the baroreflex gain in fish.Established model systems in the flowering plants have greatly advanced our understanding of plant developmental biology, facilitating in turn its investigation across diverse land plants. The reliance on a limited number of model organisms, however, constitutes a barrier for future progress in evolutionary developmental biology (evo-devo). In particular, a more thorough understanding of seed plant character evolution and of its genetic and developmental basis has been hampered in part by a lack of gymnosperm model systems, since most are trees with decades-long generation times. Guided by the premise that future model organisms should be selected based on their character diversity, rather than simply phylogenetic "position," we highlight biological questions of potential interest that can be addressed via comparative studies in Ephedra (Gnetales). In addition to having relatively small genomes and shorter generation times in comparison to most other gymnosperms, Ephedra are amenable to investigations on the evolution of the key reproductive seed plant innovations of pollination and seed dispersal, as well as on polyploidy, and adaptation to extreme environments.
To investigate the effectiveness of alpha activity neurofeedback training over the parietal lobe in GAD patients.

Twenty-six female patients who had been diagnosed as GAD according to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (5th edition, DSM-V) criteria were included in this study. Patients were randomized into two groups the left parietal lobe training group (LPL group, n=13) and the right parietal lobe training group (RPL group, n=13), and then received ten 40-minute alpha training sessions in the relevant area. Evaluations included severity of anxiety (by State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, STAI) and depression (by **** Depression Inventory, BDI-II) after the fifth training session and the last training session.

The scores of STAI-S decreased significantly two weeks after the fifth training session in both groups (LPL group from 47.15±10.65 to 38.69±8.78, p<.05; RPL group from 44.92±12.37 to 37.31±6.41, p<.05) and decreased further at the four weeks' time point after the last training session (LPL group 35.15±9.24; RPL group 29.85±6.18). Compared with baseline, the scores of STAI-T, BDI-II and ISI decrease at two weeks, no significant difference found between LPL group and RPL group.
