Generativity demonstrated substantial rank-order stability but no mean-level change. There was substantial variability in both stability and change. Dual score change models showed a robust concurrent relationship between generativity and well-being at the first assessment and meaningful correlated change over time. While demographic and social role covariates were not associated with study findings, one of the most important limitations of the RALS is the racial and ethnic homogeneity of the sample, which constrains generalizability and potentially may restrict the range of these variables. In addition, we tested for sources of the national differences. A systematic search in electronic databases (PsycInfo, Medline, Google Scholar, PSYNDEX) and cross-referencing identified 294 studies (with mean age ranging from 8 to 105 years) that were included in random-effects meta-analyses. While children felt about 3 years or 34% older than their chronological age, older adults (60+ years) felt, on average, between 10.74 and 21.07 years or 13%-18% younger. Associations between chronological age and the size of proportional differences between subjective and chronological were best described as a quadratic relationship, while associations with the size of absolute differences could also be described as a linear relationship. The widening of the gap between subjective age and chronological age across adulthood was found in all continents. Although adults reported a relatively younger subjective age across the globe, these differences were strongest in North America, Western Europe, and Australia/Oceania, and weakest in Africa. The regional differences disappeared after statistically controlling for national levels of individualism-collectivism, power distance, preference for young people rather than older adults, and quality of life of older people. Traditional psychometric theory has focused largely on between-person change, whereas increasingly research and clinical questions concern within-person change. We examined the psychometric properties of two commonly used measures of obsessive-compulsive symptoms (Yale-Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale, YBOCS; Dimensional Obsessive-Compulsive Scale, DOCS) within a longitudinal treatment context (N = 570). Regarding reliability, we applied traditional (i.e., internal consistency at each week) and novel methods that allow for examination of the reliability of both within- and between-person change (i.e., variance partitioning based on generalizability theory). We examined longitudinal concurrent validity by correlating per-person slopes of obsessive-compulsive and depression symptom measures obtained via mixed-effects models. Within-person change reliability was acceptable or good for the YBOCS and DOCS total scores (.77, .83), suggesting that these measures are capable of capturing meaningful changes that exist within persons over time, and between-person change reliability was excellent (.99-1.0). Per-person slopes analyses supported the longitudinal concurrent validity of both measures. Our data support the continued use of the YBOCS and DOCS as measures of obsessive-compulsive symptoms for the purpose of many longitudinal research questions. The current study provides a template for reestablishing the psychometric properties of other commonly used measures in the context of longitudinal investigations.
