Compared with the lowest levodopa equivalent dose quartile group (mean levodopa equivalent dose, 132mg/day), the highest group (mean levodopa equivalent dose, 973mg/day) exhibited a 68% increase in UME (17.8 vs. 30.0ng/mg cre, respectively). In addition, compared with the non-PD controls, PD patients receiving a lower levodopa equivalent dose displayed decreased UME and those receiving higher levodopa equivalent dose displayed increased UME.

This study showed cultivar 18,131 would provide the highest phenolic contents and ABTS radical scavenging activity, and cultivar 1862 provide the highest lycopene content after oven drying. On the basis of appearance and contents of polyphenols, freeze drying showed better results. However, oven drying was found superior in decreasing degradation of lycopene. The effects of drying on the polyphenol contents varied depending on the cultivars. In addition, there is no significant difference of antioxidant activities between freeze dried and oven dried tomatoes. These results also demonstrated that freeze drying is superior in maintaining physical structure and phenolic contents of tomato slices. A 5 mM dip was found to be optimal in delaying senescence as measured by retention of green colour, vitamin C and antioxidant activity, and a lower level of ethylene production, respiration, weight loss, phenylalanine ammonia lyase (PAL) activity and ion leakage with the benefits being similar for all three amino acids. Arginine, cysteine and methionine have Generally Recognised As Safe (GRAS) status and should have few impediments in obtaining regulatory approval for commercial use if similar effects were found for other leafy vegetables.A comprehensive study on packaging used in commercially available milk products from Spanish markets has been presented. Concentrations of four phthalates, seven parabens and BPA were determined in forty-two milk products. Eleven brands and five types of packaging (metallic aluminium bag, carton, high-density polyethylene, metal pail and polyethylene terephthalate) were included in the study. BPA showed the lowest concentrations (8.3 pg/g f.w.), far below those of phthalates (6431 pg/g f.w.) and parabens (6234 pg/g f.w.). Metallic aluminium bags were the least migrating packaging (considering plasticisers and monomers) followed by HDPE bottles, in the case of phthalates. Parabens showed their highest concentrations for fresh-milk samples. Levels found were far below the specific migration limits established by the EU and the cumulative hazard index was lower than 1, indicating that adverse health effects were not expected. In general, the results found in Spanish samples were lower than those reported in other countries.This study is aimed to comparatively investigate the phytochemical profiles, focusing on the nutritional and phytochemical properties of common garlic (Allium sativum L.; CG) and elephant garlic (EG) (Allium ampeloprasum var. holmense) collected from the Val di Chiana area (Tuscany, Italy). The results showed a lower amount of fibers, demonstrating a higher digestibility of the bulb, and sulfur-containing compounds in EG rather than in CG. Untargeted metabolomic profiling followed by supervised and unsupervised statistics allowed understanding the differences in phytochemical composition among the two bulbs, both as raw bulbs, processed following the in vitro gastrointestinal digestion process. Typical sulfur-containing compounds, such as alliin and N-gamma-glutamyl-S-allyl cysteine, could notably be detected in lower amounts in EG. EG maintains a distinct phytochemical signature during in vitro gastrointestinal digestion. Our findings support the distinct sensorial attributes of the bulbs.
