The endocrine disrupting compound Bisphenol and its analogues are widely used in food packaging products and can cause serious health hazards. The protein, Lysozyme (Lyz), showing anti-microbial properties, is used as a "natural" food and dairy preservative. Herein, we explored the interaction between Lyz and Bisphenol S (BPS) by multi-spectroscopic and theoretical approaches. Lyz interacts with BPS through static quenching, where hydrophobic force governed the underlying interaction. Molecular docking results reveal that tryptophan plays a vital role in binding, corroborated well with near UV-CD studies. A decrease in the radius of gyration (from 1.43 nm to 1.35 nm) of Lyz substantiates the compactness of the protein conformation owing to such an interaction. This structural alteration experienced by Lyz may alter its functional properties as a food preservative. Consequently, this can degrade the quality of the food products and thereby lead to severe health issues.The bonding in beryllocene, [BeCp2 ], took decades to establish, owing to its unexpected mixed hapticity structure (i.e., [Be(η5 -Cp)(η1 -Cp)]). This study investigated the status of serum ischaemia-modified albumin (IMA) levels in the development of diabetic foot ulcer (DFU) in patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) and in predicting ulcer formation and ulcer grading.
Thirty patients with DM, 30 with DFU and 30 healthy controls were included in the study. All participants' demographic characteristics and serum IMA, C-reactive protein (CRP), erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and white blood cell (WBC) levels and DFU infection grades were recorded.
Nine (30%) patients with DFU were grade 2 according to the grading of International Working Group of the Diabetic Foot, 14 (46.7%) were grade 3 and seven (23.3%) were grade 4. Significant, powerful and positive correlation was determined between serum IMA and albumin-adjusted IMA levels and degrees of DFU (r=0.878 and r=0.846, P<.001 for both). Serum IMA levels in the DFU group were significantly higher than in the DM and control groups (P<.001). The optimal cut-off values for IMA in predicting cting the severity of DFU infection.Soil microbiome comprises numerous microbial species that continuously interact with each other. Bacteria deploy various secretion systems to fend off other microorganisms and Type IV Secretion System (T4SS) in pathogenic bacteria was shown to function as a contact-dependent, inter-bacterial killing system only recently. The present study investigated the role played by T4SS in the killing behaviour of the soilborne biocontrol bacterium Lysobacter enzymogenes OH11. Results showed that L. enzymogenes OH11 genome encompasses genes encoding all the components of T4SS and effectors potentially involved in inter-bacterial killing system. Generation of knock-out mutants revealed that L. enzymogenes OH11 uses T4SS as the main contact-dependent weapon against other soilborne bacteria. The T4SS-mediated killing behaviour of L. enzymogenes OH11 decreased the antibacterial and antifungal activity of two Pseudomonas spp. but at the same time, protected carrot from infection by Pectobacterium carotovorum. Overall, this study showed for the first time the involvement of T4SS in the killing behaviour of L. enzymogenes and its impact on the multiple interactions occurring in the soil microbiome.Delicately designed dopant-free hole-transporting materials (HTMs) with ordered structure have become one of the major strategies to achieve high-performance perovskite solar cells (PSCs). In this work, we report two donor-π linker-donor (D-π-D) HTMs, N01 and N02, which consist of facilely synthesized 4,8-di(n-hexyloxy)-benzo[1,2-b4,5-b']dithiophene as a π linker, with 10-bromohexyl-10H-phenoxazine and 10-hexyl-10H-phenoxazine as donors, respectively. The N01 molecules form a two-dimensional conjugated network governed by C-H⋅⋅⋅O and C-H⋅⋅⋅Br interaction between phenoxazine donors, and synchronously construct a three-dimension lamellar structure with the aid of interlaminar π-π interaction. Consequently, N01 as a dopant-free small-molecule HTM exhibits a higher intrinsic hole mobility and more favorable interfacial properties for hole transport, hole extraction and perovskite growth, enabling an inverted PSC to achieve a very impressive power conversion efficiency of 21.85 %.

We aim to evaluate the effect of flaxseed consumption on serum lipids, adiponectin, leptin, and anthropometric indices in overweight or obese women.
This randomised controlled clinical trial involved 60 overweight or obese women. Participants were randomly allocated into two groups (a) a balanced diet plus 30g/day milled flaxseed (as treatment group) and (b) a balanced diet plus 30g/day milled rice (as control group). Anthropometric indices, serum lipids, leptin, and adiponectin level were measured at baseline and at the end of intervention after 12weeks.
After 12weeks of intervention, there was significantly higher reduction rate in waist circumference (WC) and waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) (both P<.05) in the flaxseed-consuming group compared with the control group.
