Role confusion is a prominent constituent symptom of Prolonged Grief Disorder in parents after their infants die from sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). We interviewed 31 parents of SIDS infants 2-5 years post-loss examining the parental role before death, at the time of loss, and in bereavement. Thematic analysis found disruption of the role and re-imagined responsibilities for their child's physical security, emotional security, and meaning. Tasks within these domains changed from concrete and apparent to representational and self-generated. Parents in bereavement locate ongoing, imperative parental responsibilities, particularly asserting their child's meaningful place in the world and in their family.Gender violence is the most important factor that leads women refugees and asylum seekers to leave their country and is one of the main risks to which the migration journey exposes them. To the multidimensional trauma of migration is added the complex trauma of gender violence making migrant women even more vulnerable. This study, aimed to investigate meanings of experience of the operators who deal with migrant women in Southern Italy. For the purpose of the study, we use the Focus Group, for data collection and the Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) to analyze the data. The study confirms the need to structure specific paths for the well-being of forced migrant women victims of violence that respect gender dynamics and cultural differences. In particular, in the context of the transcultural clinic, it will be demonstrated that focus groups are a useful resource and propose the construction of "métissée" spaces.Alveolar epithelial type 2 cells (AEC2s), the facultative progenitors of lung alveoli, are typically identified through the use of the canonical markers, SFTPC and ABCA3. Self-renewing AEC2-like cells have been generated from human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) through the use of knock-in SFTPC fluorochrome reporters. However, developmentally, SFTPC expression onset begins in the fetal distal lung bud tip and thus is not specific to mature AEC2s. Furthermore, SFTPC reporters appear to identify only those iPSC-derived AEC2s (iAEC2s) expressing the highest SFTPC levels. Here, we generate an ABCA3 knock-in GFP fusion reporter (ABCA3GFP) that enables the purification of iAEC2s while allowing visualization of lamellar bodies, organelles associated with AEC2 maturation. Using a SFTPCtdTomato and ABCA3GFP bi-fluorescent line for in vitro distal lung directed differentiation, we observe later onset of ABCA3GFP expression and broader identification of the subsequently emerging iAEC2 population based on ABCA3GFP expression compared to SFTPCtdTomato expression. Comparing ABCA3GFP/SFTPCtdTomato double positive (DP) to ABCA3GFP single positive cells (SP) by RNA sequencing and functional studies reveals iAEC2 cellular heterogeneity with both populations functionally processing surfactant proteins but the SP cells exhibiting faster growth kinetics, increased clonogenicity, increased expression of progenitor markers, lower levels of SFTPC expression, and lower levels of AEC2 maturation markers. Over time, we observe each population (DP and SP) gives rise to the other and each can serve as the parents of indefinitely self-renewing iAEC2 progeny. Our results indicate iAEC2s are a heterogeneous population of cells with differing proliferation vs maturation properties, the majority of which can be tracked and purified using the ABCA3GFP reporter or surrogate cell surface proteins, such as SLC34A2 and CPM.Classical Hodgkin lymphoma is a neoplastic hematological disease. Standard first-line therapy, including chemotherapy and radiotherapy, is curative in >85% of early-stage patients, with a 5-year survival rate of >95%. However, approximately 15% of patients have hard-to-treat lymphoma with poor outcomes, and new treatment strategies are needed for these young adults. There are several well-documented cases in the medical literature on hematologic cancer remission following natural human viral infections. Therefore, hoping to reproduce these spontaneous tumor regressions, researchers have been investigating various viruses with oncolytic properties. There is a high rationale for using virotherapy in the treatment of Hodgkin lymphoma, in which tumor cells are often infected with the Epstein-Barr virus. Modern viral technologies and current knowledge about the relationship between viruses and cancer could accelerate the discovery of effective viral oncolytic therapies. This article reviews the use of oncolytic viruses as innovative therapies for treating Hodgkin lymphoma.
A suicide attempt is the most potent predictor of future suicidal behavior, yet little is known about how to manage and respond to reports of attempt histories in hospitalized medical patients. This study aims to describe the prevalence and characteristics of pediatric and adult medical inpatients who report a past suicide attempt.
Participants were medical inpatients, aged 10-93 years, enrolled in two suicide risk screening instrument validation studies. Participants completed the Ask Suicide-Screening Questions (ASQ) and the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ).
A total of 1324 medical inpatients (624 pediatric, 700 adult) completed the ASQ, with 114 participants (8.6%) reporting a past suicide attempt (51 pediatric; 63 adults). https://www.selleckchem.com/products/pf-04691502.html Comparing youth to adults, there was no significant difference between attempt rates (
=0.29,
= 0.59). Youth with a past attempt were significantly more likely to report past week suicidal ideation (OR = 28.22; 95% CI = 5.90, 135.06) and have a history of mental health carence is a critical time for detecting suicide risk, screening that includes past suicidal behavior may be an important means to identify youth with recent suicidal thoughts. By assessing recency of suicide attempts in adults, medical settings may optimize the effectiveness of how positive suicide risk screens are managed.HIGHLIGHTSRoughly 9% of medical patients reported a past suicide attempt when screened.Adolescence is a critical time for detecting suicide risk and intervening.Assessing past suicide attempts in adults can help with managing positive screens.
