To compare absolute volume (AV) assessment according to Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors (RECIST) for the response evaluation of desmoid tumors (DTs) treated with radiotherapy.

Eighteen patients with DTs ≥3 cm in size were included.

The median follow-up duration was 78.0 months. Five patients achieved a complete response according to RECIST, seven reached a partial response (PR), and one eventually exhibited progression. However, nuclear artifactual vacuoles (NuVas) produced during tissue processing can be very difficult and sometimes impossible to distinguish from intranuclear inclusions (NuIns). P62 is an autophagy receptor that recognizes, targets, and eliminates toxic cellular materials during autophagy. Herein, we examined the utility of p62 immunohistochemical staining to detect NuIns in thyroid core needle biopsy specimens.

Thirty-five thyroid CNB slides from 32 patients and corresponding resection specimens stained with hematoxylin and eosin were reviewed by two pathologists. We evaluated the relationship between serum alarmin levels and disease-specific indices in patients with anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitis (AAV).

Sera and data from 79 patients were utilized. For AAV-specific indices, Birmingham vasculitis activity score (BVAS), five-factor score (FFS), and vasculitis damage index (VDI) were collected and serum levels of four alarmins (hepatoma-derived growth factor, high mobility group box protein 1, S100A9, and S100A12) were measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Associations between alarmin levels, AAV-specific indices, and inflammatory laboratory markers were assessed.

S100A9 levels were significantly correlated with C-reactive protein levels (r=0.316, p=0.005) and S100A12 levels correlated with VDI (r=0.232, p=0.040), which was consistent in a subgroup of patients with myeloperoxidase (perinuclear)-ANCA positivity. No other associations were found between alarmin levels and BVAS, FFS, and VDI.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) mainly develops in the damaged liver from hepatitis C virus (HCV) or hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection in Japan. On the other hand, the occurrence of HCCs derived from the liver without viral infection has recently been increasing. Our aim was to identify characteristics specific to HCCs with virus-infected liver (HCC-**) or those with non-B- and non-C-infected liver (HCC-NBNC), Patients and Methods We collected preoperative serum α-fetoprotein (AFP) and Des-Gamma-Carboxy Prothrombin (DCP), also known as PIVKA-II values from surgically resected HCC cases during 1994-2017 in our department.

Preoperative serum AFP values of HCC-** cases (n=284) were higher compared to HCC-NBNC cases (n=88) (p=0.016), whereas serum DCP values of HCC-NBNC cases were higher compared to HCC-** cases (p<0.001). Multivariable analyses indicated that abnormal serum AFP [hazard ratio (HR)=1.46, 95% conficdence interval (CI)=1.03-2.07, p=0.035) was one of the significant recurrence-free survival predictors of HCC-** cases, while abnormal serum DCP (HR=4.99, 95%CI=1.91-13.01, p=0.001) was one of the significant recurrence-free survival predictors of HCC-NBNC cases.
