This study aimed to establish and evaluate the usefulness of a simple, practical, and easy-to-promote machine learning model based on ultrasound imaging features for diagnosing breast cancer (**).
Logistic regression, random forest, extra trees, support vector, multilayer perceptron, and XG Boost models were developed. The modeling data set of 1345 cases was from a tertiary class A hospital in China. Diagnostic capability was also compared with that of clinicians.
Among the six models, the logistic model showed superior diagnostic efficiency, with an AUC of 0.771 and 0.906 and Brier scores of 0.181 and 0.165 in the test and validation sets, respectively. The AUCs of the clinician diagnosis and the logistic model were 0.913 and 0.906. Their AUCs in the tertiary class A hospitals were 0.915 and 0.915, respectively, and were 0.894 and 0.873 in primary hospitals, respectively.
The externally validated logical model can be used to distinguish between malignant and benign breast lesions in ultrasound images. Compared with clinician diagnosis, the logistic model has better diagnostic efficiency, making it potentially useful to assist in screening, particularly in lower level medical institutions.

To evaluate the technical success and clinical safety of magnetic resonance (MR)-guided microwave ablation (MWA) of small hepatic metastases.
Institutional review board approval and informed patient consent were obtained. A retrospective analysis of the patient data revealed 50 patients with small hepatic metastases (34 men, 16 women) who underwent MWA under MR guidance and monitoring. After the procedure, the intervention-related complications were classified according to the Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events (CTCAE) and Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR) classification system. Furthermore, the overall survival (OS) and local tumor-free survival (LTP) of the patients were analyzed.
The patients who underwent MR-guided MWA achieved technical success. The mean energy, ablation duration per tumor, and procedure duration were 55.3 ± 9.4 kJ, 11.7 ± 5.6 min and 89.5 ± 30.9 min, respectively. Most adverse events and complications were CTCAE grade 1 or 2 or SIR classification grade A or B. The 1-, 2-, and 3-year local tumor progression (LTP) rates were 65.9%, 31.5% and 18.5%, respectively, with a mean LTP of 19.216 months (95% CI 16.208, 22.224); and the 1-, 2- and 3-year overall survival (OS) rates were 81.8%, 60.8% and 44.7%, respectively, with a mean OS of 26.378 months (95% CI 23.485, 29.270). Multivariate Cox's regression analysis further illustrated that tumor location (challenging locations vs ordinary locations) and the anesthesia (general anesthesia VS local anesthesia) were important factors affecting LTP and OS.

mutations was measured in cell-free DNA from patients with metastatic breast cancer (MBC) to investigate disease characteristics and the prognostic role of different locations of the
mutation site.
Blood samples were taken from a total of 187 patients diagnosed with ****who were treated at the Department of Breast Oncology, Peking University Cancer Hospital between January 2013 and March 2020. Next-generation sequencing was used to investigate the
mutation spectra of circulating free DNA in these blood samples.
Among the 187 ****patients,
-mutated patients had a significantly shorter median disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS) compared with
wild-type patients (P=0.001 and P=0.006, respectively). Additionally, in hormone receptor positive/HER2 negative (HR+/HER2-) and triple negative (TNBC) cohorts,
-mutated patients had a significantly shorter median DFS than
wild-type patients (P=0.038 and P=0.023, respectively). The 79 patients with
mutations carrie significantly worse outcome than TP53 wild-type patients especially those in HR+/HER2- and TNBC cohorts. Of TP53-mutated patients, those with non-missense mutations in the DBD had worse breast cancer-related survival. TP53 mutations were also associated with endocrine resistance.
Anastomotic leakage after rectal cancer surgery in elderly patients is a critical challenge. Many risk factors have been found and many interventions tried, but anastomotic leakage in elderly patients remains difficult to deal with. This study aimed to create a nomogram for predicting anastomotic leakage after rectal surgery in elderly rectal cancer patients with dysfunctional stomata.
We collected data from 326 consecutive elderly patients with dysfunctional stomata after rectal cancer surgery at the Sixth Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yat-Sen University from January 2014 to December 2019. Risk factors of anastomotic leakage were identified with multivariate logistic regression and used to create a nomogram. Predictive performance was evaluated by the area under the receiver-operating characteristic (ROC) curve.
American Society of Anesthesiologists score ≥3, male sex, and neoadjuvant radiotherapy were identified as significantly associated factors that could be combined for accurate prediction of anastomotic leakage on multivariate logistic regression and development of a nomogram.The area under the ROC curve for this model was 0.645. The
-index value for this model was 0.645, indicating moderate predictive ability of the risk of anastomotic leakage.
The nomogram showed good ability to predict anastomotic leakage in elderly patients with rectal cancer after surgery, and might be helpful in providing a reference point for selection of surgical procedures and perioperative treatment.
