Though a uni-disciplinary educational approach increases knowledge and skills of individual professions separately, IPE offers significant advantages. IPE seeks to have students learning together, as well as from each other to develop exemplary collaborative practice. The World Health Organization (WHO) has proposed that IPE will ensure optimum health care. However, IPE is yet to find its proper place in dental education. It would help dental students to develop a positive attitude toward geriatric patients and increase their empathy and efficiency in the management of these patients. The article is intended to augment the existing paradigm on cultural trauma as it specifically relates to Hawaiians, and potentially to widen the explanatory power of this paradigm with regard to present-day psychoactive drug use among Hawaiians as well as the implications for treatments.Virtual reality (VR) is popular across many disciplines and has been increasingly used in sports as a training tool lately. However, it is not clear whether the spatial orientation of humans works equally within VR and in the real-world. In this paper, two studies are presented, in which natural body movements were allowed and demanded. Firstly, a series of verbal and walking distance estimation tests were conducted in both the virtual and the real environment. The non-parametric Friedman test with pairwise comparisons showed no significant differences neither in verbal nor in walking distance estimations between the conditions (all p > 0.05). However, shorter distances (0.9-1.5 m) were estimated more precisely than larger distances (2.6-2.8 m) in both environments. Secondly, a self-developed route recall test to examine the spatial orientation was performed in the virtual and the real environment. The participants visually perceived the predefined route and were instructed to follow these routes with their eyes blindfolded and afterward to return to their starting position. Between the ending and the starting position, no difference between the two environments was observed (p > 0.05). Based on these two studies, the performance of the human spatial orientation preliminarily verified the same in a virtual and real environment.Controlling biofilm retention time in moving bed biofilm reactor (MBBR) and maintaining its performance for A-stage carbon redirection requires a reliable method to use as side stream biocarriers treatment. This paper investigates biofilm detachment and residual biofilm activity under multiple physicochemical treatment scenarios aiming to provide an applicable technique for control of biofilm retention time. Different mixing intensities (i.e. 30-120 rpm), filling fractions (i.e. 20%-100%), and pH (i.e. 2-12) were evaluated. Two continuously operating MBBRs were subjected to pH shocks of 2 and 12 to evaluate the impact of residual acidic or alkaline compounds on performance. The highest solids detachment (i.e. 70 ± 5%) was found in alkaline conditions and independent of mixing intensity and filling fraction. Biofilm detachment test revealed that alkaline shock produced higher detachment levels in a longer exposure time when compared to acidic conditions. The kinetic tests revealed 60% and 90% of the residual biofilm activity was lost at pH 12 and 2.
