In this paper, a triple-band Linear Polarization to Circular Polarization (LP-to-CP) converter is presented using a novel design procedure based on geometric parameters optimization of a metasheet. The proposed converter is ultrathin, wideband, stable over a wide range of incident angles, and polarization diverse. The conductor layer of metasheet is patterned with a square ring and five square-patches diagonally intersecting each other. To validate the proposed method, an LP-to-CP convertor in X-band (7.3~9.6 GHz) and dual Ka-bands (25.4~31.4 GHz, 35.4~42.2 GHz) is presented. The performance is quite stable in wide range of frequencies and against the variation of incident angles from -25° to 25°. After performing model-based theoretical paradigm analysis, and full-wave simulation and optimization, the converter is fabricated and the measurements are performed inside the anechoic chamber. The measured results, close to simulation results, depict the validity and reliability of the proposed design.Cell sorting via flow cytometry is a powerful tool to select subpopulations of cells in many biological fields. Selection of fertilisation-prone sperm is a critical step to ensure a stable and high fertilisation rate in in vitro fertilisation (IVF). However, a combination of conventional cell sorting and IVF system has not been established because of severe mechanical damages to the sperm during the sorting process. A cell sorter with microfluidics chip technology that lessens cell damage during cell sorting may address this problem. We evaluated the effects of microfluidics chip cell sorting on the sperm using the parameters, such as motility and fertility, and found this cell sorting method had minimal harmful effect on the sperm. Then, sperm were selected by a marker for acrosome reaction and showed higher fertilisation rate than that of the population of acrosome-intact sperm. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/Vorinostat-saha.html Embryo derived from these sperm developed normally. These results indicated that microfluidics chip cell sorting can select fertile sperm to improve IVF technique.Synchrotron facilities produce ultra-high dose rate X-rays that can be used for selective cancer treatment when combined with micron-sized beams. Synchrotron microbeam radiation therapy (MRT) has been shown to inhibit cancer growth in small animals, whilst preserving healthy tissue function. However, the underlying mechanisms that produce successful MRT outcomes are not well understood, either in vitro or in vivo. This study provides new insights into the relationships between dosimetry, radiation transport simulations, in vitro cell response, and pre-clinical brain cancer survival using intracerebral gliosarcoma (9LGS) bearing rats. As part of this ground-breaking research, a new image-guided MRT technique was implemented for accurate tumor targeting combined with a pioneering assessment of tumor dose-coverage; an essential parameter for clinical radiotherapy. Based on the results of our study, we can now (for the first time) present clear and reproducible relationships between the in vitro cell response, tumor dose-volume coverage and survival post MRT irradiation of an aggressive and radioresistant brain cancer in a rodent model. Our innovative and interdisciplinary approach is illustrated by the results of the first long-term MRT pre-clinical trial in Australia. Implementing personalized synchrotron MRT for brain cancer treatment will advance this international research effort towards clinical trials. As one of the main components of Tripterygium wilfordii Hook F, celastrol (CSL) has significant antitumor activity, but its clinical application has been limited by its poor solubility, low oral bioavailability and systemic toxicity. In this study, celastrol nanosuspensions (CSL-NSps) were prepared using an antisolvent precipitation method with poloxamer 188 (P-188) as a stabilizer at a high CSL/P-188 feeding ratio of 81. The resultant CSL was spherical in shape with an average particle size of 147.9 nm, a polydispersity index (PDI) of 0.12 and zeta potential of -19.2 mV. The encapsulation efficiency and drug loading content were 98.18% and 86.83%, respectively, and the X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern showed that CSL existed in an amorphous state in the nanosuspensions. CSL-NSps were quite stable in various physiological media and plasma and were both suitable for oral and intravenous administration. Nanosuspensions greatly enhanced the in vitro dissolution, and the cumulative drug release reached approximately 69.20% within 48 h. In vivo, CSL-NSps (3 mg/kg, i.g.) displayed a significantly enhanced tumor inhibition rate (TIR) in comparison with that of CSL suspension when administered orally (TIR, 50.39%, vs. 41.16%, p less then 0.05), similar to that of PTX injection (8 mg/kg, i.v. TIR, 50.88%). CSL-NSps showed even better therapeutic efficacy than PTX injection (TIR, 64.18%, p less then 0.01) when intravenously injected. This has demonstrated that, with the help of nanosuspensions, CSL is likely to be an effective and promising antitumor agent in clinic practice for the treatment of breast cancer. The Capripoxvirus genus includes three agents Sheeppox virus, Goatpox virus and Lumpy skin disease virus. Related diseases are of economic importance and present a major constraint to animals and animal products trade in addition to mortality and morbidity. Attenuated vaccines against these diseases are available, but afforded cross-protection is controversial in each specie. In this study, groups of sheep, goats and cattle were vaccinated with Romania SPPV vaccine and challenged with corresponding virulent strains. Sheep and cattle were also vaccinated with Neethling LSDV vaccine and challenged with both virulent SPPV and LSDV strains. Animals were monitored by clinical observation, rectal temperature as well as serological response. The study showed that sheep and goats vaccinated with Romania SPPV vaccine were fully protected against challenge with virulent SPPV and GTPV strains, respectively. However, small ruminants vaccinated with LSDV Neethling vaccine showed only partial protection against challenge with virulent SPPV strain.
