IOI-HA response data are conventionally analysed assuming that the ordinal responses have interval-scale properties. This study critically considers this assumption and compares the conventional approach with a method using Item Response Theory (IRT).
A Bayesian IRT analysis model was implemented and applied to several IOI-HA data sets.
Anonymised IOI-HA responses from 13273 adult users of one or two hearing aids in 11 data sets using the Australian English, Dutch, German and Swedish versions of the IOI-HA.
The raw ordinal responses to IOI-HA items do not represent values on interval scales. Using the conventional rating sum as an overall score introduces a scale error corresponding to about 10 - 15% of the true standard deviation in the population. Some interesting and statistically credible differences were demonstrated among the included data sets.

Data coding and analysis were inductive, using thematic analysis. A key objective for the building was to support IPE. This objective was not translated into operational detail in later documents or into practice, as indicated by student experiences. Students experienced tensions and isolation from each other and other health-care students because of the building's place (i.e. separate from other health-care programs), the learning space within the building, and the interplay between the space and timetables. This empirical study suggests that space and place can impact on interprofessional learning, emphasizing the importance of clearly conceptualizing educational spaces and places to underpin successful IPE.
Nerve transfer (NT) and free gracilis muscle transfer (FGMT) are procedures for reanimation of the paralyzed face. Assessing the surgical outcomes of these procedures is imperative when evaluating the effectiveness of these interventions, especially when establishing a new center focused on the treatment of patients with facial paralysis. We desired to discuss the factors to consider when implementing a facial nerve center and the means by which the specialist can assess and analyze outcomes.
Patients with facial palsy secondary to multiple etiologies, including cerebellopontine angle tumors, head and neck carcinoma, and trauma, who underwent NT or FGMT between 2014 and 2019 were included. Primary outcomes were facial symmetry and smile excursion, calculated using FACE-gram and Emotrics software. Subjective quality of life outcomes, including the Facial Clinimetric Evaluation (FaCE) Scale and Synkinesis Assessment Questionnaire (SAQ), were also assessed.
14/22 NT and 6/6 FGMT patients met inclusion crity, and improved QOL following NT in patients with facial palsy secondary to multiple etiologies.Prison-based democratic therapeutic communities (TCs) provide an alternative to mainstream prison, where prisoners can work on psychological difficulties and address offending behavior. Research demonstrates TCs are effective at reducing reoffending rates for residents who stay in therapy 18+ months, and those who drop out of TCs offend at a significantly higher rate than those who complete therapy. Thus, it is important to reduce attrition in TCs. No research has yet explored the explanations for TC drop out offered by those with sexual convictions. The present study uses Interpretive Phenomenological Analysis to qualitatively explore the accounts of men with sexual convictions (n = 7) who dropped out of a TC in a UK prison. Results highlight that issues surrounding external responsivity, therapeutic relationships, and treatment readiness were salient in the participants' accounts of drop out. This research has implications for TCs seeking to better understand and address attrition of people with sexual convictions.Problem Effective clinical workplace learning depends on interprofessional and multidisciplinary learning. However, traditional patient wards are centered around patient care and not so **** around education. Other barriers such as time constraints also contribute to suboptimal interprofessional and multidisciplinary learning. Intervention Six formal and informal learning activities that aimed at stimulation of interprofessional and multidisciplinary learning were designed and introduced in our patient ward to enable optimal integration of clinical practice and learning. Context The study took place in an internal medicine inpatient ward where daily patient care is performed by specialized teams consisting of different healthcare professionals from the departments of Endocrinology, Nephrology, and Infectious Diseases. In the traditional ward setting, interprofessional and multidisciplinary learning mostly takes place during shared clinical activities. In this article, we describe the development and implementation of a Clinical Teaching Unit to support learning between different healthcare professionals.
