The novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has rapidly spread across the globe. Pre-existing comorbidities have been found to have a dramatic effect on the disease course. We sought to analyze the effect of asthma on the disease progression and outcomes of COVID-19 patients.
We conducted a multi-center retrospective study of positively confirmed COVID-19 patients. The primary outcome of interest was in-hospital mortality. Secondary outcomes were the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) admission, intubation, mechanical ventilation, and length of hospital stay.
A total of 502 COVID-19 adult patients (72 asthma and 430 non-asthma cohorts) with mean age of 60.7 years were included in the study. The frequency of asthma in hospitalized cohorts was 14.3%. Univariate analysis revealed that asthma patients were more likely to be obese (75% versus 54.2%, p=0.001), with a higher frequency of intubation (40.3% versus 27.8%, p=0.036), and required a longer duration of hospitalization (15.1±12.5 versus 11.5±10.6, p=0.015). After adjustment, multivariable analysis showed that asthmatic patients were not associated with higher risk of ICU admission (OR=1.81, 95%CI=0.98-3.09, p=0.06), endotracheal intubation (OR=1.77, 95%CI=0.99-3.04, p=0.06) or complications (OR=1.37, 95%CI=0.82-2.31, p=0.23). Asthmatic patients were not associated with higher odds of prolonged hospital length of stay (OR=1.48, 95%CI=0.82-2.66, p=0.20) or with ICU stay (OR=0.76, 95%CI=0.28-2.02, p=0.58). Kaplan-Meier curve showed no significant difference in the overall survival of the two groups (p=0.65).
Despite the increased prevalence of hospitalization in elder asthmatic COVID-19 patients, after adjustment for other variables, it was neither associated with increased severity nor worse outcomes.

International guidelines recommend mucolytic agents as add-on therapy in selected patients with COPD because they may reduce exacerbations and improve health status. As the evidence varies among mucolytic agents, we used the Delphi method to assess consensus amongst an international panel of COPD experts on mucolytics use in COPD.
53 COPD experts from 12 countries were asked to complete an online questionnaire and rate their agreement with 15 statements using a 5-point scale. The mucolytic agents evaluated were carbocysteine, erdosteine and N-acetylcysteine (NAC). Data were collected anonymously and consensus presented using descriptive statistics.
The 47 respondents reached consensus on the statements. They agreed that regular treatment with mucolytic agents effectively reduces the frequency of exacerbations, reduces the duration of mild-to-moderate exacerbations, and can increase the time to first exacerbation and symptom-free time in COPD patients. Consensus was consistently highest for erdosteine. The experts agreed that all three mucolytics display antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity. Erdosteine and NAC were thought to improve the efficacy of some classes of antibacterial drugs. All three mucolytics were considered effective for the short-term treatment of symptoms of acute exacerbations when added to other drugs. The panel agreed that approved doses of mucolytic agents have favorable side-effect profiles and can be recommended for regular use in patients with a bronchitic phenotype.

In parallel, in vitro assays were used to mimic the in vivo overlaying of FBGs on the tumour surface. The leadless pacemaking transcatheter system, Micra, is a miniaturized, single-chamber pacemaker system. We report herein our experience with implantation of the Micra TPS system.
The current study was conducted to evaluate the safety and efficacy of the leadless Micra Transcatheter Pacemaker System (Medtronic).
This was a prospective single centre nonrandomized study without controls. A transcatheter pacemaker was implanted in patients who had guideline based indications for ventricular pacing. 28 subjects were screened based on the selection criteria. **** TPS was implanted. Parameters assessed were duration of procedure (from femoral vein puncture to venous access closure), fluoroscopy time, number of device repositions, periprocedural electrical measurements (sensing, threshold and impedance) and in-hospital, intermediate to long term adverse events related to procedure.

40S ribosomal protein SA (RPSA), a component of the small ribosomal subunit, is a high-affinity receptor of laminin that is widely expressed in cells and involves in many biological processes. However, it hasn't been reported which tissues and cells may be targeted by RPSA-mediated pathogen regulation. Therefore, in this study, a gram-positive bacterium Streptococcus suis Type 2 (SS2), gram-negative bacterium Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae (A.pleuropneumoniae), and porcine circovirus Type 2 (PCV2) were used to infect ICR ****.
The effects of infection with the three pathogens on expression levels of RPSA in mouse tissues and peripheral blood immune cells were analysed by immunohistochemistry and flow cytometry. The results suggested that the pathological changes in **** infected with SS2 were mainly manifested as congestion and inflammatory infiltration in the meninges, lungs, hearts and livers. The **** infected with A.pleuropneumoniae or PCV2 showed lung lesions and mild hepatocyte degeneration, respectively.
