Objectives To investigate the association of chest CT findings with mortality in clinical management of older patients. Methods From January 21 to February 14, 2020, 98 older patients (≥ 60 years) who had undergone chest CT scans ("initial CT") on admission were enrolled. Manifestation and CT score were compared between the death group and the survival group. In each group, patients were sub-grouped based on the time interval between symptom onset and the "initial CT" scan subgroup1 (interval ≤ 5 days), subgroup2 (interval between 6 and 10 days), and subgroup3 (interval > 10 days). Adjusted ROC curve after adjustment for age and gender was applied. Results Consolidations on CT images were more common in the death group (n = 46) than in the survival group (n = 52) (53.2% vs 32.0%, p less then 0.001). For subgroup1 and subgroup2, a higher mean CT score was found for the death group (33.0 ± 17.1 vs 12.9 ± 8.7, p less then 0.001; 38.8 ± 12.3 vs 24.3 ± 11.9, p = 0.002, respectively) and no significant difference of CT score was identified with respect to subgroup3 (p = 0.144). https://www.selleckchem.com/ In subgroup1, CT score of 14.5 with a sensitivity of 83.3% and a specificity of 77.3% for the prediction of mortality was an optimal cutoff value, with an adjusted AUC of 0.881. In subgroup2, CT score of 27.5 with a sensitivity of 87.5% and a specificity of 70.6% for the prediction of mortality was an optimal cutoff value, with an adjusted AUC of 0.895. Conclusions "Initial CT" scores may be useful to speculate prognosis and stratify patients. Severe manifestation on CT at an early stage may indicate poor prognosis for older patients with COVID-19. Key points • Severe manifestation on CT at an early stage may indicate poor prognosis for older patients with COVID-19. • Radiologists should pay attention to the time interval between symptom onsets and CT scans of patients with COVID-19. • Consolidations on CT images were more common in death patients than in survival patients. Objective To assess the utility of deep learning analysis using 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) uptake by positron emission tomography (PET/CT) to predict disease-free survival (DFS) in patients with oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma (OCSCC). Methods One hundred thirteen patients with OCSCC who received pretreatment FDG-PET/CT were included. They were divided into training (83 patients) and test (30 patients) sets. The diagnosis of treatment control/failure and the DFS rate were obtained from patients' medical records. In deep learning analyses, three planes of axial, coronal, and sagittal FDG-PET images were assessed by ResNet-101 architecture. In the training set, image analysis was performed for the diagnostic model creation. The test data set was subsequently analyzed for confirmation of diagnostic accuracy. T-stage, clinical stage, and conventional FDG-PET parameters (the maximum and mean standardized uptake value (SUVmax and SUVmean), heterogeneity index, metabolic tumor volume (MTV), and total lesion glentional T-stage, clinical stage, and conventional FDG-PET-based parameters. In current research, benzazepine derivative is synthesized via a new process of four-component reaction of isatin or its derivatives, α-haloketones, activated acetylenic compounds, isoquinoline and potassium fluoride/clinoptilolite nanoparticles (KF/CP NPs) in acidic solution of H2O2 in water at room temperature. Also, antioxidation property of some prepared benzazepines is investigated by employing trapping diphenyl-picrylhydrazine (DPPH) radical and ability of ferric reduction experiment. Among investigated compounds, compounds 5c have good results relative to BHT and TBHQ as standard antioxidant. Also, the Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria disk diffusion research is used for the confirmation of antimicrobial power of some prepared benzazepines. The achieved outcomes of disk diffusion experiment showed that these compounds avoided the growth of bacteria. Our procedure has a few benefits relative to reported method such as good rate of reaction, product with high efficiency, simple removal of catalyst from mixture of reaction. In the yield of the product, KF/clinoptilolite nanoparticles show a satisfactory recyclable activity.Inflammation has been proven significant factor in development of type 2 diabetes. So far, most of the adipose tissue related research has been performed in animals, mainly rodent models. The relevance of translation of animal results to humans is questionable. However, in vitro model with relevant human cell source, such as human adipose tissue stromal cells (hASC), can be developed and should be utilized for human adipose tissue research. We developed in vitro models of human adipose tissue utilizing hASC, endothelial cells and monocytes/macrophages. By isolating endothelial cells and macrophages from same adipose tissue as hASC, we were able to provide method for constructing personalized models of adipose tissue. With these models, we studied the effect of macrophages on adipogenesis and protein secretion, with and without vasculature. The models were analyzed for immunocytochemical markers, cell number, triglyceride accumulation and protein secretion. We found that lipid accumulation was greater in adipocytes in the presence of macrophages. Interferon gamma increased this difference between adipocyte culture and Adipocyte-Macrophage co-culture. Protein secretion was affected more by macrophages when vasculature was not present compared to the mild effect when vasculature was present. The vascularized adipose model with macrophages is valuable tool for human adipose tissue research, especially for the personalized medicine approaches; for choosing the right treatments and for studying rare medical conditions.Purpose This work aims to develop a simple, anatomically and haptically realistic vascular phantom, compatible with intravascular and intracardiac ultrasound. The low-cost, dual-layered phantom bridges the gap between traditional wall-only and wall-less phantoms by showing both the vessel wall and surrounding tissue in ultrasound imaging. This phantom can better assist clinical tool training, testing of intravascular devices, blood flow studies, and validation of algorithms for intravascular and intracardiac surgical systems. Methods Polyvinyl alcohol cryogel (PVA-c) incorporating a scattering agent was used to obtain vessel and tissue-mimicking materials. Our specific design targeted the inferior vena cava and renal bifurcations which were modelled using *** software. A custom mould and container were 3D-printed for shaping the desired vessel wall. Three phantoms were prepared by varying both the concentrations of scattering agent as well as the number of freeze-thaw cycles to which the phantom layers were subjected during the manufacturing process.
