Questioning of patient and relatives is crucial.An effective response to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic requires a better understanding of the biology of the infection and the identification of validated biomarker profiles that would increase the availability, accuracy, and speed of COVID-19 testing. Here, we describe the strategic objectives and action lines of the European Alliance of Medical Research Infrastructures (AMRI), established to improve the research process and tackle challenges related to diagnostic tests and biomarker development. Recommendations include the creation of a European taskforce for validation of novel diagnostic products, the definition and promotion of criteria for COVID-19 samples biobanking, the identification and validation of biomarkers as clinical endpoints for clinical trials, and the definition of immune biomarker signatures at different stages of the disease. An effective management of the COVID-19 pandemic is possible only if there is a high level of knowledge and coordination between the public and private sectors within a robust quality framework.
To describe the development of an innovative process to deliver bacillus Calmette-**érin (BCG) to an offsite urology clinic for bladder instillation.
The use of BCG, a live virus vaccine for treatment of patients with localized cancer of the urinary bladder, has created many logistical problems for hospitals and infusion center pharmacies. Due to its short stability, the drug cannot be made ahead of time and coordination with a patient's arrival at an infusion site is challenging. This becomes exceptionally challenging when a urology clinic has limited compounding capacity and/or is distant from the site of BCG medication preparation. This article describes an innovative process involving use of closed-system transfer devices (CSTDs) to allow for the administration of BCG in a urology clinic offsite from a medical center's infusion center facilities.
The use of the CSTD allowed the patients to continue to receive bladder instillations at an offsite urology clinic without significantly disrupting compounding workflow at the small infusion center pharmacy that was the nearest to the clinic.

Human and animal studies suggest that light-mediated dopamine release may underlie the protective effect of time outdoors on myopia development. Melanopsin-containing retinal ganglion cells may be involved in this process by integrating ambient light exposure and regulating retinal dopamine levels. The study evaluates this potential involvement by examining whether melanopsin-driven pupillary responses are associated with adult refractive error.
Subjects were 45 young adults (73% female, 24.1 ± 1.8 years) with refractive errors ranging from -6.33 D to +1.70 D. The RAPDx (Konan Medical) pupillometer measured normalized pupillary responses to three forms of square-wave light pulses alternating with darkness at 0.1 Hz alternating long wavelength (red, peak at 608 nm) and short wavelength (blue, peak at 448 nm), followed by red only and then blue only.
