The aim of this study was to evaluate current education and training of student and registered midwives across the UK and Spain; analysing both pelvic floor teaching and practical experience.

A cross-sectional survey was carried out by 711 student and 384 registered midwives across different universities and regions in the UK and Spain.

The vast majority (91.5 % n = 382) of UK students complete training without ever cutting or repairing an episiotomy. This compares to 39.4 % (n = 85) of registered midwives who did not cut an episiotomy during training. Only 20 % (n = 9) of Spanish and 10 % (n = 45) of UK registered midwives felt confident undertaking these techniques. In Spain just 15 % (n = 6) of students, compared to 54.8 % (n = 80) of registered midwives had received teaching on longer-term pelvic floor complications.

There is a considerable deficit in the current training practices for midwives regarding episiotomies. This lack of practice and confidence may be impacting on the increased rates of perineal tears and pelvic dysfunction in post-partum women. Across registered midwives there are gaps in education regarding longer-term pelvic floor complications. Our study was limited by a smaller sample size from Spain compared to the UK. Our results show practical assessment of skills during training is desirable and could improve both the confidence and competence of midwives upon registration.

Ultrasound treatment was conducted at the frequency of 25 kHz (using different values of amplitude - 20, 60 and 100%, respectively) in 61.5% sucrose solution at 30, 40 and 50 °C for 20, 40 and 60 min. The Box-Behnken design was used to investigate the influence of independent variables (time, temperature and amplitude) on the osmotic dehydration. The results showed that for physico-chemical characteristics (mass transfer parameters; moisture content; total content of anthocyanins, flavonoids and polyphenols; DPPH assay scavenging activity) that optimal conditions were obtained at 30 °C for 40 min at a 100% amplitude. Ultrasound treatment stimulated changes in the main characteristics, especially of colour leading to a higher lightness (L*), decreasing AsA-POD and water activity. The results indicated that the higher the values of independent variables are, the more representative is the correlation between them.
Subjective cognitive complaints (SCC) and affective symptoms are highly prevalent in Parkinson's Disease (PD). In early PD, SCC prevalence and its affective correlates, using recommended Movement Disorders Society (MDS) Level II Criteria to define the underlying cognitive impairment, has not been previously explored.

We recruited 121 participants with early PD from two tertiary hospitals in Singapore. The presence of SCC was defined using a Non-Motor Symptoms Scale Domain-5 Score ≥1. Comprehensive neuropsychological testing was conducted with Mild Cognitive Impairment (PD-MCI) defined using recommended MDS Level II Criteria. Affective symptoms were assessed using the Hospital Anxiety Depression Scale (HADS), Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS) and Apathy Scale (AS). Analysis using multivariable linear regression model was performed.

In our early PD cohort, SCC prevalence independent of underlying cognitive status was 38.8%. Prevalence of SCC in cognitively impaired and cognitively normal participants was 10.7% and 28.1% respectively (р=0.241). In cognitively normal PD participants, multivariable linear regression analysis revealed that SCC was significantly associated with anxiety (β=0.28, 95% CI=0.09-0.79, p=0.014), depression (β=0.31, 95% CI=0.10-0.59, p=0.006) and apathy (β=0.32, 95% CI=1.15-5.98, p=0.004). Such an association was not found in cognitively impaired PD participants.

SCC is highly prevalent even in early PD. Its implications in early PD differ depending on underlying cognitive status. We aim to characterize PD subtypes using a multimodal clustering approach based on cortical and subcortical gray matter (GM) volumes and FA measures.

We included T1-weighted and diffusion-weighted MRI data from 62 PD patients and 33 healthy controls. We extracted mean GM volumes from 48 cortical and 17 subcortical regions using FSL-VBM, and the mean FA from 20 WM tracts using Tract-Based Spatial Statistics (TBSS). Hierarchical cluster analysis was performed with the PD sample using Ward's linkage method. Whole-brain voxel-wise intergroup comparisons of VBM and TBSS data were also performed using FSL. Neuropsychological and demographic statistical analyses were conducted using IBM SPSS Statistics 25.
