RESULTS Eighty-five consecutive patients, with a mean age of 9.1 years, were included in the study. The median interval from symptom onset to diagnosis was 45 days (range 0-1673); median interval from symptom onset to first presentation was 31.0 days; and median interval from first presentation to diagnosis was 13.5 days. Germinoma had the longest interval from symptom onset to first presentation, and from first presentation to diagnosis. Patients presenting with endocrine disorder had a significantly longer interval from symptom onset to first presentation (p = 0.019); those with visual disturbance (p = 0.016) or endocrine disorder (p = 0.030) had significantly longer intervals from first presentation to diagnosis. CONCLUSION Pediatric brain tumor patients with germinoma and presenting symptoms of endocrine disorder or visual disturbance have a longer time to diagnosis. Although improved prognosis is not clearly related to a shorter time to diagnosis, we believe that early diagnosis can lead to improved treatment and better quality of life. A detailed medical history and neuroimaging studies at the earliest time possible are important for early diagnosis.BACKGROUND AND IMPORTANCE Angiosarcoma is a rare malignant tumor with an aggressive course and poor prognosis. It is typically seen in adults but very rarely seen in children. Angiosarcoma of the skull with brain metastasis is exceptionally rare. Due to the rare nature of these tumors, **** is left unknown about clinical progression and treatment guidelines are not well established. CLINICAL PRESENTATION AND COURSE A 14-year-old male patient presented with an enlarging mass on the parietal region of the head. Further investigations revealed a mass lesion involving scalp and skull tissue. Biopsy result showed angiosarcoma and the patient underwent multiple surgical interventions including scalp excision, craniectomy on tumor site, and excision of brain metastases. He also received chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Despite aggressive treatment, disease progression could not be controlled. CONCLUSION Here we report a pediatric patient with intracranially invasive angiosarcoma of the scalp and skull, with recurrent hemorrhagic metastases to the brain. This is a very rare case in pediatric age group with very poor prognosis. Our patient had impressively longer survival than those reported in the literature despite multiple hemorrhagic brain metastasis and this is most likely related to our aggressive treatment strategy that includes multiple craniotomies for metastatic tumor resection in addition to neoadjuvant chemotherapy and radiation therapy. We believe optimal treatment of skull angiosarcoma in children should aim gross total resection of the skull tumor including involving scalp and dura as well as neoadjuvant chemotherapy and radiation therapy, and the patient should be followed closely with repeated brain MRI studies to pursue additional surgeries to remove brain metastasis if feasible.Skeletal fractures, a common injury in physically abused children, often go undetected and untreated for significant lengths of time and are sometimes incidentally discovered radiographically. Our objective was to review current literature for scientific studies of pediatric fracture healing with associated timelines. We conducted a search of Embase, EBSCOhost, MEDLINE (PubMed), and Web of Science for literature published from the earliest available up to August 2018. We evaluated the included articles for quality, with consideration for use in clinical and forensic settings. Of a total of 313 full-text articles evaluated, 10 met study inclusion criteria. The patient age range among studies was 0-17 years, with children younger than 1 year included in the majority of studies. The fracture locations included in studies were primarily fractures of the upper limb and pectoral girdle, followed by fractures of the lower limb. The radiographic features of healing varied greatly among the studies. Timelines of common fracture healing variables differed significantly among studies. Scientific, radiographic studies of pediatric fracture healing are limited. Gaps in knowledge regarding fracture healing highlight the need for future research and validation studies. Fracture healing timelines derived from existing timelines should be used with caution.PURPOSE The aim of this study was to determine if a difference exists in the relationship between the femoral intercondylar notch volume, and the volumes of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) in ACL injured patients and healthy subjects. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/tpen.html METHODS Intact knees of 19 healthy subjects and bilateral knees of 18 ipsilateral ACL reconstructed patients were scanned using 3-tesla high-resolution magnetic resonance imaging. The native intercondylar notch, ACL, and PCL volumes were compared between both groups. The volumes of native ACL and graft were compared in ACL injured patients.
