Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease risk should be assessed in PLHIV, particularly those who receive second-line ART.This study aimed to evaluate unprotected receptive anal sex intercourse (URAI) rates and vulnerabilities to HIV infection among men who have sex with men (MSM) that use geosocial networking dating apps in Brazil. An online, analytical, cross-sectional study was carried out with 2,250 MSM. The analyzed variables were grouped according to domains of vulnerability and analyzed by bi and multivariate statistics to calculate the Adjusted Odds Ratios (aOR). The prevalence of self-reported HIV was 7.1%; and of URAI, 23.4%. The studied variables that increased the chances of engaging in URAI were identifying as homosexual (aOR = 8.30; 95%CI = 5.6812.04), pansexual (aOR = 5.01; 95%CI = 2.0412.38), or bisexual (aOR = 3.14; 95%CI = 2.034.80), using apps for obtaining sex (aOR = 1.3; 95%CI = 1.01.5), engaging in group sex (aOR = 1.6; 95%CI = 1.32.0), and reporting chemsex (aOR = 1.5; 95%CI = 1.12.0). Self-reported positive HIV status was associated with less than a minimum wage income (aOR = 1.78; 95%CI = 1.222.58), lower education (aOR = 1.86; 95%CI = 1.31 CI; 2,64), not knowing the partner's HIV status (aOR = 1.84; 95%CI = 1.063.19), practicing group sex (aOR = 1.67; 95%CI = 1.04; 2.68), and chemsex (aOR = 2.03; 95%CI =1.063.19). The applications interaction is shaped by their own users to better meet their desires and needs. However, this behavior exposes individuals to HIV vulnerabilities. The mechanisms responsible for driving endogenous airway hyperresponsiveness (AHR) in the form of exercise-induced bronchoconstriction (EIB) are not fully understood. We examined alterations in airway phospholipid hydrolysis, surfactant degradation, and lipid mediator release in relation to AHR severity and changes induced by exercise challenge. Paired induced sputum (n = 18) and bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) fluid (n = 11) were obtained before and after exercise challenge in asthmatic subjects. Samples were analyzed for phospholipid structure, surfactant function, and levels of eicosanoids and secreted phospholipase A2 group 10 (sPLA2-X). A primary epithelial cell culture model was used to model effects of osmotic stress on sPLA2-X. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/gdc-0084.html Exercise challenge resulted in increased surfactant degradation, phospholipase activity, and eicosanoid production in sputum samples of all patients. Subjects with EIB had higher levels of surfactant degradation and phospholipase activity in BAL fluid. Higher basal sputum levels of cysteinyl leukotrienes (CysLTs) and prostaglandin D2 (PGD2) were associated with direct AHR, and both the postexercise and absolute change in CysLTs and PGD2 levels were associated with EIB severity. Surfactant function either was abnormal at baseline or became abnormal after exercise challenge. Baseline levels of sPLA2-X in sputum and the absolute change in amount of sPLA2-X with exercise were positively correlated with EIB severity. Osmotic stress ex vivo resulted in movement of water and release of sPLA2-X to the apical surface. In summary, exercise challenge promotes changes in phospholipid structure and eicosanoid release in asthma, providing two mechanisms that promote bronchoconstriction, particularly in individuals with EIB who have higher basal levels of phospholipid turnover. The World Health Organization is promoting community-based services to end HIV/AIDS by 2030. In Nigeria, studies on community pharmacists' involvement in HIV testing services (HTS) and antiretroviral (ARV) medication therapy management (MTM) are scarce, and no study had evaluated the clients' opinion on community pharmacy HTS. We assessed the community pharmacists' involvement in HIV/AIDS services and clients' opinions of community pharmacy HTS. Semi-structured questionnaires on a five-point Likert scale were administered to 701 selected community pharmacists and 5840 clients in southwest Nigeria in 2019. Data were analyzed with descriptive and inferential statistics. Response rates were 68.6% and 69.8% for community pharmacists and clients, respectively. Only 18.5% of community pharmacists offered rapid HTS and 30% refills of ARV. The total score of their involvement on the HTS was 20.94 ± 17.521 (range 8-40; midpoint 24) and on ARV/MTM was 22.98 ± 19.61 (range 9-45; midpoint 27), while 91% were willing to participate in training. Barriers to integrating services into practice were lack of clinical tools (46.8%), lack of collaboration with other healthcare professionals (39.1%), and lack of training on HIV/AIDS services (36.2%) among others. Also, 77% of the clients were willing to participate in community pharmacy HTS, and about 83% of them responded that knowing their HIV status will help them to take necessary precautionary actions. Community pharmacists' involvement in HIV/AIDS services was low. However, they showed willingness to participate in training to improve services. Also, clients were willing to receive community pharmacies HTS to know their status.A 20-year-old young woman with cauliflower-shaped lesions on her vulva was misdiagnosed as condyloma acuminatum. Further evaluation revealed positive serological tests for syphilis. On histological examination, and numerous plasma cells were seen to infiltrate the dermis heavily. The cauliflower-shaped lesions on vulva completely disappeared after benzathine penicillin treatment. Cauliflower-shaped lesions are a rare manifestation of secondary syphilis.Treponemal immunoglobulin M (IgM) antibody detection is currently among serologic tests used for syphilis diagnosis. However, the exact role of these antibodies is unclear. In this retrospective study of 326 (198 HIV positive and 128 negative) patients with early syphilis and positive IgM serology, data were analysed to investigate the time of IgM seroreversion after treatment and correlation with covariate factors. Median time of IgM seroreversion in the study population was 9 months (range 3-84, interquartile range 5-12). No statistically significant difference was observed between HIV-positive and -negative patients. At 12 months, 80.1% of the patients had a negative IgM test. At 6 months, 100% of HIV-positive patients had a fourfold decrease or greater in Venereal Disease Research Laboratory titres, but only 35.4% had a negative treponemal IgM. Secondary and early latent stage patients had a slower seroreversion of IgM (Hazard Ratio (HR) = 0.73, p = 0.064 and HR = 0.60, p = 0.023, respectively) than those with primary syphilis.
