Discharge planning is important to prevent surgical site infections, reduce costs, and improve the hospitalization experience. The identification of early variables that can predict a longer-than-expected length of stay or the need for a discharge with additional needs can improve this process. A cohort study was conducted in the largest hospital of Northern Italy, collecting discharge records from January 2017 to January 2020 and pre-admission visits in the last three months. Socio-demographic and clinical data were collected. Linear and logistic regression models were fitted. The main outcomes were the length of stay (LOS) and discharge destination. The main predictors of a longer LOS were the need for additional care at discharge (+10.76 days), hospitalization from the emergency department (ED) (+5.21 days), and age (+0.04 days per year), accounting for clinical variables (p less then 0.001 for all variables). Each year of age and hospitalization from the ED were associated with a higher probability of needing additional care at discharge (OR 1.02 and 1.77, respectively, p less then 0.001). No additional findings came from pre-admission forms. Discharge difficulties seem to be related mainly to age and hospitalization procedures those factors are probably masking underlying social risk factors that do not show up in patients with planned admissions.Studies on ethanol-induced stress and acetaldehyde toxicity are actively being conducted, owing to an increase in alcohol consumption in modern society. In this study, ent-peniciherqueinone (EPQ) isolated from a Hawaiian volcanic soil-associated fungus Penicillium herquei FT729 was found to reduce the acetaldehyde-induced cytotoxicity and oxidative stress in PC12 cells. EPQ increased cell viability in the presence of acetaldehyde-induced cytotoxicity in PC12 cells. In addition, EPQ reduced cellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels and restored acetaldehyde-mediated disruption of mitochondrial membrane potential. Western blot analyses revealed that EPQ treatment increased protein levels of ROS-scavenging heme oxygenase-1 and superoxide dismutase, as well as the levels of aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH) 1, ALDH2, and ALDH3, under acetaldehyde-induced cellular stress. Finally, EPQ reduced acetaldehyde-induced phosphorylation of p38 and c-Jun N-terminal kinase, which are associated with ROS-induced oxidative stress. Therefore, our results demonstrated that EPQ prevents cellular oxidative stress caused by acetaldehyde and functions as a potent agent to suppress hangover symptoms and alcohol-related stress.Non-contact optical detection of ultrasound critically depends on the amount of light collected from the detection surface. Although it can be optimized in multiple ways for an ideal flat polished surface, industrial non-destructive testing and evaluation (NDT&E) usually requires optical detectors to be robust for unpolished material surfaces that are usually rough and curved. Confocal detectors provide the best light collection but must trade off sensitivity with depth of field. Specifically, detection efficiency increases with the numerical aperture (NA) of the detector, but the depth of field drops. Therefore, fast realignment of the detector focal point is critical for in-field applications. Here, we propose an optical distance and angle correction system (DACS) and demonstrate it in a kHz-rate laser-ultrasound inspection system. It incorporates a Sagnac interferometer on receive for the fast scanning of aircraft composites, which minimizes the required initial alignment. We show that DACS performs stably for different composite surfaces while providing ±2° angular and ±2 mm axial automatic correction with a maximum 100 ms realignment time.Consumers and regulations encourage the use of naturally derived food colorants. Anthocyanins (ACN), plant pigments, are unstable in foods. In aged red wines, ACN with a free hydroxyl group at C-5 condenses to form pyranoanthocyanins (PACN), which are more stable but form inefficiently. This study attempted to produce PACN efficiently using high cofactor concentration and heat. Elderberry anthocyanins were semi-purified and caffeic acid (CA) was dissolved in 15% ethanol and diluted with a buffer to achieve ACNCA molar ratios of 150, 1100, 1150, and 1200, then incubated at 65 °C for 5 days. The effect of temperature was tested using ACN samples incubated with or without CA at 25 °C, 50 °C, and 75 °C for 7 days. Compositional changes were monitored using uHPLC-PDA-MS/MS. Higher CA levels seemed to protect pigment integrity, with ACNCA 1150 ratio showing the highest tinctorial strength after 48 h. Despite strong evidence for supervised pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT) for women with urinary incontinence (UI), and weight loss and exercise for overweight and obese women with UI, implementation literature on these combined interventions is limited. This paper aimed to describe the rigorous and systematic processes involved in the collaborative development, implementation, refinement and evaluation of a novel, holistic 12 week exercise training and healthy eating group program (ATHENA) for overweight and obese women with UI.

This intervention description paper is part of a larger mixed-methods feasibility study of implementing the ATHENA intervention within a physiotherapy service at a public hospital in Australia. The collaborative intervention design had input from clinicians, researchers and a consumer representative.

The intervention involved four evidence-based components-(1) supervised PFMT; (2) general exercise training; (3) pelvic health education; and (4) healthy eating education-delivered face to face over a 12 week period. Supporting resources developed included a Facilitator's Guide and Participant Workbook.

ATHENA is an evidence-based, multifaceted, group-based intervention targeting exercise training and healthy eating for management of UI for overweight and obese women. The structured development process and transparency of intervention content and resources aims to enhance practical application and success in future studies.
