To compare the performance of different ictal quantitative biomarkers of the seizure onset zone (SOZ) across many seizures in a cohort of consecutive patients with a variety of seizure onset patterns.

The Epileptogenicity Index (EI, a measure of fast activity) and Slow Polarizing Shift index (SPS, a measure of infraslow activity) were calculated for 212 seizures (22 patients). After stratification by onset pattern, median index values inside and outside the SOZ were compared in aggregate and for each of the onset patterns. Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curves were constructed to compare the performance of each index.

Median values of EI (0.056 vs 0.0087), SPS (0.27 vs 0.19), and CI (0.21 vs 0.12) were significantly higher for contacts inside the SOZ, all p < 0.0001. Analysis of AUC showed variable performance of these indices across seizure types, although AUC for EI and SPS was generally greatest for seizures with fast activity at onset.

This study aimed to investigate the relationship between fasting plasma glucose in the first trimester of pregnancy and the incidence of gestational diabetes.

This descriptive-analytical study was conducted using the merging data from two prospective cohort studies that were carried out from 2015 to 2018 in Ahvaz, southwest of Iran. Logistic regression and ROC curves were used to evaluate the predictive power of risk factors.

Of all 1270 pregnant women studied, 454 (35.75%) had gestational diabetes who were compared with the other 816 (64.25%) healthy women. The area under the curve (AUC) of fasting glucose for the first pregnancy visit was 0.80 (95% CI 0.76-83), and the optimum fasting glucose cut-off point was 85.5mg/dL with a sensitivity of 71% and a specificity of 69%. AUC of the combination of fasting glucose at the first visit with body mass index ≥25kg/m
and family history of diabetes was calculated to be 0.85 (CI, 0.82-0.88) and 0.84 (CI, 0.79-0.89) respectively.

From 2013 to 2019, a total of 455 previously undescribed diterpenoids were isolated from 53 species of Euphorbia, and some skeleton types were first discovered from the genus Euphorbia. Most of the diterpenoids isolated from Euphorbia spp. have been tested for their biological activity, and some of them were first reported for Euphorbia diterpenoids in recent years, such as neuroprotection, antimalarial activity and inhibition of osteoclast formation. Between August and December 2020, twice-weekly wastewater samples from three tertiary-care hospitals (totaling > 2100 dedicated inpatient beds) were collected. Hospital-1 and Hospital-2 could be captured with a single sampling point whereas Hospital-3 required three separate monitoring sites. Wastewater samples were concentrated and cleaned using the 4S-silica column method and assessed for SARS-CoV-2 gene-targets (N1, N2 and E) and controls using RT-qPCR. Wastewater SARS-CoV-2 as measured by quantification cycle (Cq), genome copies and genomes normalized to the fecal biomarker PMMoV were compared to the total daily number of patients hospitalized with active COVID-19, confirmed cases of hospital-acquired infection, and the occurrence of unit-specific outbreaks. Of 165 wastewater samples collected, 159 (96%) were assayable. The N1-gene from SARS-CoV-2 was detected in 64.1% of samples, N2 in 49.7% and E in 10%. N1 and N2 in wastewater increased over time both in terms of the amount of detectable virus and the proportion of samples that were positive, consistent with increasing hospitalizations at those sites with single monitoring points (Pearson's r = 0.679, P less then 0.0001, Pearson's r = 0.799, P less then 0.0001, respectively). Despite increasing hospitalizations through the study period, nosocomial-acquired cases of COVID-19 (Pearson's r = 0.389, P less then 0.001) and unit-specific outbreaks were discernable with significant increases in detectable SARS-CoV-2 N1-RNA (median 112 copies/ml) versus outbreak-free periods (0 copies/ml; P less then 0.0001). Wastewater-based monitoring of SARS-CoV-2 represents a promising tool for SARS-CoV-2 passive surveillance and case identification, containment, and mitigation in acute- care medical facilities.
