Alkanol dehydration rates catalyzed by hydronium ions are enhanced by the dimensions of steric confinements of zeolite pores as well as by intraporous intermolecular interactions with other alkanols. The higher rates with zeolite MFI having pores smaller than those of zeolite BEA for dehydration of secondary alkanols, 3-heptanol and 2-methyl-3-hexanol, is caused by the lower activation enthalpy in the tighter confinements of MFI that offsets a less positive activation entropy. The higher activity in BEA than in MFI for dehydration of a tertiary alkanol, 2-methyl-2-hexanol, is primarily attributed to the reduction of the activation enthalpy by stabilizing intraporous interactions of the Cβ -H transition state with surrounding alcohol molecules. Overall, we show that the positive impact of zeolite confinements results from the stabilization of transition state provided by the confinement and intermolecular interaction of alkanols with the transition state, which is impacted by both the size of confinements and the structure of alkanols in the E1 pathway of dehydration.Worldwide elderly traumatic brain injury (TBI) patients tend to become an increasing burden to the society. Thus, a faster and less expensive way of evaluating TBI victims is needed. In the present study we investigated if optical coherence tomography (OCT) could be used as such a method. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/lf3.html By using an animal model, we established if OCT can detect cortical changes in the acute phase of a penetrating TBI, in young (5-7 months) and old (20-22 months) rats. Due to the long-term evolution of TBI's, we wanted to investigate to what extent OCT could detect changes within the cortex in the chronic phase. Adult (7-12 months) male rats were used. Surprisingly, OCT imaging of the normal hemisphere was able to discriminate age-related differences in the mean gray values (MGV) of recorded pixels (p = .032). Furthermore, in the acute phase of TBI, OCT images recorded at 24 hr after the injury showed differences between the apparent damaged area of young and aged animals. Changes of MGV and skewness were only recorded 48 hr after injury. Monitoring the chronical evolution of the TBI with OCT revealed changes over time exceeding the normal range recorded for MGV, skewness and kurtosis, 14 and 21 days after TBI. Although in the present study we still used an extremely invasive approach, as technology improves, less invasive and non-harmful ways of recording OCT may allow for an objective way to detect changes within the brain structure after brain injuries.
Clinical decision support (CDS) generates excessive alerts that disrupt the workflow of clinicians. Therefore, inefficient clinical processes that contribute to the misfit between CDS alert and workflow must be evaluated. This study evaluates the appropriateness of CDS alerts in supporting clinical workflow from a socio-technical perspective.

A qualitative case study evaluation was conducted at a 620-bed public teaching hospital in Malaysia using interview, observation, and document analysis to investigate the features and functions of alert appropriateness and workflow-related issues in cardiological and dermatological settings. The current state map for medication prescribing process was also modelled to identify problems pertinent to CDS alert appropriateness.

The main findings showed that CDS was not well designed to fit into a clinician's workflow due to influencing factors such as technology (usability, alert content, and alert timing), human (training, perception, knowledge, and skills), organizade the fit of these alerts into clinical workflow. The addition of π-allylmetal complexes to carbonyls is the most important route to homoallylic alcohols. This study reports the first photocatalytic generation of π-allyltitanium complexes by a radical strategy. This novel strategy enables the three-component allylation of carbonyls with 1,3-butadiene, providing rapid access to valuable homoallylic alcohols (over 60 examples). The exceptional regio- and diastereoselectivity provided by dual photoredox/Ti catalysis is comparable to that of the Cr-catalyzed Nozaki-Hiyama-Kishi allylation reaction.Electrocatalytic conversion of carbon dioxide into high-value multicarbon (C2+ ) chemical feedstocks offers a promising avenue to liberate the chemical industry from fossil-resource dependence and eventually close the anthropogenic carbon cycle but is severely impeded by the lack of high-performance catalysts. To break the linear scaling relationship of intermediate binding and minimize the kinetic barrier of CO2 reduction reactions, ternary Cu-Au/Ag nanoframes were fabricated to decouple the functions of CO generation and C-C coupling, whereby the former is promoted by the alloyed Ag/Au substrate and the latter is facilitated by the highly strained and positively charged Cu domains. Thus, C2 H4 production in an H-cell and a flow cell occurred with high Faradic efficiencies of 69±5 and 77±2 %, respectively, as well as good electrocatalytic stability and material durability. In situ IR and DFT calculations unveiled two competing pathways for C2 H4 generation, of which direct CO dimerization is energetically favored.
No previous studies have examined the prospective association between disposable income and binge-drinking initiation among adolescents. We aimed to examine whether there is such an association and, if so, whether it is robust to confounders, uniform across individual characteristics and linear versus non-linear.

Prospective study of adolescents from 32 middle schools, stratified according to geographic location, urban and rural locations and standard of living. Adolescents were assessed in 2017 (T1) and 1 year later (T2).

Norway.

A nation-wide sample of 1845 adolescents (mean age 13.5years, 44% boys) with no binge-drinking experience at T1.

Data were collected on binge drinking at T1 and T2. Data on disposable income and on a range of demographic, individual and family factors were collected at T1.

Overall, 7.2% initiated binge drinking between T1 and T2. Logistic regression showed that the crude linear effect of disposable income on binge drinking initiation was substantial, and only slightly attenuated in the fully adjusted model including all putative confounders [odds ratio (OR)=1.
