The rapid spread of the COVID-19 virus around the world poses a real threat to public safety. Some COVID-19 symptoms are similar to other viral chest diseases, which makes it challenging to develop models for effective detection of COVID-19 infection. This article advocates a model to differentiate between COVID-19 and other four viral chest diseases under uncertainty environment using the viruses primary symptoms and CT scans. The proposed model is based on a plithogenic set, which provides higher accurate evaluation results in an uncertain environment. The proposed model employs the best-worst method (BWM) and the technique in order of preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS). Besides, this study discusses how smart Internet of Things technology can assist medical staff in monitoring the spread of COVID-19. Experimental evaluation of the proposed model was conducted on five different chest diseases. Evaluation results demonstrate that the proposed model effectiveness in detecting the COVID-19 in all five cases achieving detection accuracy of up to 98%.In addition to being the epicentre of the HIV epidemic, South Africa also has the highest burden of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in the world. Therefore, understanding the most influential risk factors of STIs is a research priority. Using the data from 9948 women who resided in KwaZulu Natal, South Africa, we estimated the population attributable risk to quantify the combined impacts of the most influential factors on STI diagnosis. Overall STI prevalence was 20%, and STI incidence was 15 per 100 person-years. Four factors age at sexual debut, single/not cohabiting, two or more sex partners and parity less then 3 were identified as the most influential risk factors for STI prevalence and incidence rates. However, these factors collectively associated with only 51% and 53% of the excess STI prevalence and incidence rates, respectively. These relatively modest impacts provide empirical evidence for the significant impacts of unmeasured factors on STIs. Culturally and socially appropriate prevention programs may be more effective to target those at highest risk of STIs.The consistently high rate of sexually transmitted infections among people 18-24 years old warrants novel strategies promoting condom use among large segments of this population. Ample opportunity exits to employ such strategies in university settings. This study evaluated a sex-positive, home-practice intervention designed to promote condom use among university undergraduates engaging in penile-vaginal intercourse (PVI). A sample of 29 opposite-sex undergraduate couples, engaging in PVI, was recruited from a large university. After teaching couples about condom use, a health educator helped couples select condoms/lubricants from options comprising various sizes, fits, shapes, textures, and other features. A 30-day 'homework assignment' was made to use these products while reducing condom use errors/problems and enhancing sexual pleasure. A repeated measures design, with a six-month observation period, was used to evaluate the program. Over the six-month period, the mean frequency of condomless PVI decreased from 26.4 to 3.9 times (P less then .001). Significant and favorable changes were also found relative to attitudes toward condom use (P = .027) and in condom use self-efficacy (P less then .001). Our aim was to investigate labor-force participation, working hours, job changes, and education over 9 years among persons who have survived more than 10 years after cancer, and compare it to controls.
Register data on 2629 persons who survived cancer were stratified by gender and compared to data on 5258 matched controls. Persons who survived cancer were aged 30-50 when diagnosed with cancer and had a work contract prior to diagnosis. Descriptive analysis and
-tests were performed.
The proportion of female persons who survived cancer in the labor force was reduced from 100% to 83.9% during follow-up, demonstrating a significant difference compared to controls for each year measured. The proportion of male persons who survived cancer dropped from 100% to 84.8%, but was only significantly different compared to controls in 2 years. The proportion of female persons who had survived cancer who worked full-time was lower in all years compared to both controls and male persons who survived cancer; in turn, male persons who had survived cancer worked full-time less than male controls. The proportion of female persons who had survived cancer who worked less than 20 hours per week increased compared to controls. The frequency of change of employer was higher among female persons who survived cancer compared to controls for some years, but no significant differences between male persons who survived cancer and controls were found. Female persons who survived cancer were in education more often than male persons who survived cancer.
Persons who survived cancer experienced reduced labor-force participation and working hours 9 years after diagnosis, and the reduction was more pronounced for women than for men. Working patterns were also different between genders and between persons who survived cancer and controls.
to identify the potential cardiovascular risk factors associated with mortality in hospitalised COVID-19 patients.
All consecutive patients admitted to intensive care unit (ICU) of our institute for COVID-19 from 1 April 2020 to 20 May 2020 were included. Patient characteristics including complete medical history and comorbid diseases, admission and 7th day blood test results and clinical characteristics were compared between survivors and non-survivors.
There were no significant difference between survivors and non-survivors regarding age, gender, and pre-existing coronary artery disease, hypertension, diabetes, heart failure, coronary artery bypass grafting surgery, percutaneous coronary intervention and coronary stenting. Admission D-dimer and NT-proBNP levels of non-survivors were significantly higher than survivors. CRP, procalcitonin, creatine kinase (CK) and troponin I levels on 7th day of admission were significantly higher in non-survivors compared to survivors. In addition, both admission and 7th day lymphocyte count were lower in non-survivors compared to that of the survivors.
