8% (n = 26), with significantly higher value in PCI patients (27.9% vs. 11.1%, p = 0.016). In multivariate analysis, Mini-Cog score ≤ 3 (OR = 2.6, p = 0.027), clock draw (OR 2.9, p = 0.013), preoperative renal dysfunction (OR = 2.6, p = 0.012), morphine (OR = 2.7, p = 0.007), metoclopramide (OR = 6.6, p = 0.006), and high pain score (OR = 1.8, p = 0.018) had a significant association with POD development. In this sample of elderly patients, PCI had a high prevalence and predicted the emergence of POD. Incorporating Mini-Cog test into the preoperative evaluation of onco-geriatric patients seems valuable and feasible.Macrophages are highly heterogeneous and plastic immune cells with peculiar characteristics dependent on their origin and microenvironment. Following pathogen infection or damage, circulating monocytes can be recruited in different tissues where they differentiate into macrophages. Stimuli present in the surrounding milieu induce the polarisation of macrophages towards a pro-inflammatory or anti-inflammatory profile, mediating inflammatory or homeostatic responses, respectively. However, macrophages can also derive from embryonic hematopoietic precursors and reside in specific tissues, actively participating in the development and the homeostasis in physiological conditions. Pancreatic islet resident macrophages are present from the prenatal stages onwards and show specific surface markers and functions. They localise in close proximity to β-cells, being exquisite sensors of their secretory ability and viability. Over the years, the crucial role of macrophages in β-cell differentiation and homeostasis has been highlighted. In addition, macrophages are emerging as central players in the initiation of autoimmune insulitis in type 1 diabetes and in the low-grade chronic inflammation characteristic of obesity and type 2 diabetes pathogenesis. The present work reviews the current knowledge in the field, with a particular focus on the mechanisms of communication between β-cells and macrophages that have been described so far. This paper presents a brief discussion with regard to the fixed-bed modeling results of a recent paper by Li et al. published in this journal.Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy in attenuated total reflectance geometry (FTIR-ATR), combined with a 2D correlation analysis, was here employed to investigate temperature-induced spectral changes occurring in a particular type of novel cellulosic-based nano-material prepared using 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-piperidine-1-oxyl (TEMPO) oxidized and ultra-sonicated cellulose nano-fibers (TOUS-CNFs) as three-dimensional scaffolds, and branched polyethyleneimine (bPEI) as cross-linking agent. The aim was to highlight the complex sequential events involving the different functional groups of the polymeric network, as well as to gain insight into the interplay between the amount of bPEI and the resulting sponge-like material, upon increasing temperature. In this framework, synchronous and asynchronous 2D spectra were computed and analyzed in three wavenumber regions (900-1200 cm-1, 1500-1700 cm-1 and 2680-3780 cm-1), where specific vibrational modes of the cellulosic structure fall, and over a T-range between 250 K and 340 K. A step-by-step evolution of the different arrangements of the polymer functional groups was proposed, with particular regard to how the cooperativity degree of inter- and intramolecular hydrogen bonds (HBs) changes upon heating. Information acquired can be useful, in principle, in order to develop a next-generation, T-sensitive novel material to be used for water remediation applications or for drug-delivery nano-vectors.Introduction The Promoting Activity, Independence and Stability in Early Dementia (PrAISED) is delivering an exercise programme for people with dementia. The Lincolnshire partnership National Health Service (NHS) foundation Trust successfully delivered PrAISED through a video-calling platform during the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
This qualitative case-study aimed to identify participants that video delivery worked for, to highlight its benefits and its challenges. Interviews were conducted between May and August 2020 with five participants with dementia and their caregivers (
= 10), as well as five therapists from the Lincolnshire partnership NHS foundation Trust. The interviews were analysed through thematic analysis.
Video delivery worked best when participants had a supporting caregiver and when therapists showed enthusiasm and had an established rapport with the client. Benefits included time efficiency of sessions, enhancing participants' motivation, caregivers' dementia awareness, and therapists' creativity. Limitations included users' poor IT skills and resources.
The COVID-19 pandemic required innovative ways of delivering rehabilitation. This study supports that people with dementia can use tele-rehabilitation, but success is reliant on having a caregiver and an enthusiastic and known therapist.

Animal reports of iPSC-derived exosomes on various disease models are increasing, such as in heart, limb, liver, skin, bone, eye and neurological disease and so forth. This review aims to summarize the therapeutic effects of iPSC-derived exosomes on various disease models and their properties, such as angiogenesis, cell proliferation and anti-apoptosis, with the hopes of improving their potential role in clinical applications and functional restoration.Differences in adipose tissue deposition and properties between pig male sex categories, i.e., entire males (EM), immunocastrates (IC) and surgical castrates (SC) are relatively well-characterized, whereas the underlying molecular mechanisms are still not fully understood. To gain knowledge about the genetic regulation of the differences in adipose tissue deposition, two different approaches were used RNA-sequencing and candidate gene expression by quantitative PCR. A total of 83 differentially expressed genes were identified between EM and IC, 15 between IC and SC and 48 between EM and SC by RNA-sequencing of the subcutaneous adipose tissue. Comparing EM with IC or SC, upregulated genes related to extracellular matrix dynamics and adipogenesis, and downregulated genes involved in the control of lipid and carbohydrate metabolism were detected. Differential gene expression generally indicated high similarity between IC and SC as opposed to EM, except for several heat shock protein genes that were upregulated in EM and IC compared with SC.
