Studying E2 pathway genes, we identified higher transcript levels of E2 receptors ESR1 (2.02-fold) and ESR2 (3.87-fold) in Ladakhi highlanders. Higher NOS3 mRNA, plasma level of endothelial NO synthase (eNOS), p-eNOS Ser1177, NOx (nitrate and nitrite), and cGMP were observed for Ladakhi highlanders. In addition, we observed a positive correlation between E2 with plasma NOx (r = 0.52, p = 0.002) and cGMP (r = 0.72, p = 0.007) for Ladakhi highlanders. Conclusion Our results demonstrate higher circulatory E2 and lower T levels in Ladakhi highlanders. Higher levels of E2 and its receptors (ESR1 and ESR2) are positively associated with observed higher levels of eNOS signaling pathway metabolites. These results highlight the functional importance of E2 and its receptors for Himalayan pattern of high-altitude adaptation.This paper uses SIDE theory and an information seeking lens to examine the types of information and support messages (N = 126,977 posts) veterans seek on the social networking site Reddit regarding medical marijuana use. A combination of automated text analysis strategies paired with thematic analysis produced eight themes Doctor Patient Conversations, Drug Test, Legality, Legal Policy, Prescription Drug Use/Other Substance Use, Point of View, Reasons for Use, and V.A. Findings reveal that a large portion of veterans discuss how medical marijuana can be used to self-medicate for a number of issues, including PTSD, anxiety, and sleep deprivation. Results also highlighted missing topics within veterans' conversations about medical marijuana use. For instance, veterans rarely discuss the strategies they use to talk to their doctor about their medical marijuana use. Practical implications and directions for future research are offered.Objective To better identify, quantify, and understand the current stressors and protective factors reported by Canadian medical assistance in dying (MAiD) assessors and providers to inform policy, education, and supports. Methods E-survey of MAiD stressors (n = 33) and protective factors (n = 27); resilience measurement and comments relating to practice involving physicians and nurse practitioners who provide MAiD services and belong to the Canadian Association of MAiD Assessors and Providers or a francophone equivalent. The survey was conducted, while Parliament was considering changes to MAiD eligibility criteria, which occurred during COVID-19 pandemic restrictions. Results In total, there were 131 respondents (response rate 35.8%). Two possible changes to future eligibility (mental disorders as the sole reason for MAiD and mature minors) were highly scored as were extra clinical load and patients' family conflict over MAiD. Twenty percent of respondents considered stopping MAiD work. The CD Resilience Scale-2 mean score was 6.90. Highly scored protective factors included compassionate care, relief of suffering, patient autonomy, patient gratitude, feelings of honor, privilege, and professionally satisfying work. Discussion The identified stressors and reasons for considering stopping MAiD work indicate needs for policy, education, and supports to be optimized or developed. Respondents showed high resilience and highly scored protective factors, which should be optimized. This survey should be repeated in countries where MAiD is legal to determine stressors and protective factors in MAiD practice, stressors addressed, and protective factors enhanced where feasible in the local context for optimal care.A series of 18 2-arylidene indan-1,3-dione derivatives was synthesized and tested against Daphnia magna to assess the environmental toxicity of these compounds. Aiming to investigate the toxicity mechanism for this series of compounds, a four-dimensional quantitative structure-activity analysis (4D-QSAR) was performed through the partial least square regression (PLS). The best PLS model was built with two factors and the selected field descriptors, of Coulomb (C) and Lennard-Jones (L) nature, describing 77.43% of variance and presenting the following statistics r 2 = 0.89; SEC = 0.30; Q 2 = 0.81; SEV = 0.36. According to the literature, the bioactivity of α,β-unsaturated ketones, a functionality present in the series of compounds under investigation, is related to the conjugated double bond with the carbonyl group. The presence of a positive Coulomb descriptor nearby the carbonyl moieties, obtained as a result of the regression model, indicates that these polar groups are also related to the toxicity on D. magna. From the PLS regression model, the toxicity EC50-48 h values increases with the positive Coulomb descriptor and diminishes with the negative Lennard-Jones descriptors. It could be concluded that the presence of small polar groups in the aromatic ring of the arylidene moiety tends to increase the toxicity, while bulkier apolar substituents lead to a decrease of the toxicity.Background Assessing the circumference of the hand and fingers can be challenging. Therefore, we studied the reliability of jeweler rings and a revised figure-of-eight (figure-8) protocol for the clinical assessment of finger and hand circumference. Methods and Results Thirteen patients residing in a rehabilitation center were recruited.
