This article provides a review of the experimental studies performed in recent years on the SPRED proteins and their role in the pathogenesis of certain diseases.The objective of our study was to compare microcystic and macrocystic congenital cystic adenomatoid malformation (CCAMs) through prenatal characteristics, perinatal outcome, postnatal management and development after consultation in our prenatal diagnosis centre. We conducted a retrospective cohort study of 227 cases prenatally diagnosed as CCAM in our hospital within three years. One hundred and eighty-one cases continued their pregnancy and 46 pregnancies were terminated. One hundred and fifteen of 227 cases were microcystic and 112 were macrocystic. The prenatal ultrasound characteristics of two types showed no statistically significant differences, despite that CVR of macrocystic CCAMs was mildly greater than microcystic. None of recorded cases received surgical intervention in utero. Compared with healthy foetuses, CCAMs presented with higher percentage of polyhydramnios and male foetuses, larger amount of postpartum blood loss and longer duration of NICU hospitalisation. We herein report a case involving a 56-year-old man with EPSCC of the EAC who had a 48-year history of recurrent purulent discharge in both ears and a 20-day history of right ear pain and hemorrhage followed by incomplete right eyelid closure and an askew mouth. He underwent surgical removal of middle ear granulation tissue, residual ossicles, and a right EAC mass. Postoperatively, pathomorphological examination combined with immunohistochemical staining supported a diagnosis of small cell carcinoma. Radiation therapy at a dose of 60.06 Gy in 33 daily fractions was completed 1 month after surgery, and synchronous etoposide-cisplatin regimen chemotherapy was performed for two cycles and four sequential cycles. One year postoperatively, magnetic resonance imaging showed no tumor in the ear; however, computed tomography showed multiple liver space-occupying lesions that were considered to indicate liver metastasis. Further chemotherapy was performed, but the patient died 15 months postoperatively. This case indicates that timely and accurate chemoradiotherapy is likely the most reasonable approach to EPSCC of the EAC given the aggressiveness of this tumor.Over 600,000 criminal justice involved individuals are released from state and federal prisons each year, and close to 5,000,000 former offenders are placed under some form of community-based supervision. Access to services that may facilitate the reentry process is complicated and more often than not, returning citizens have significant and wide-ranging needs left unaddressed that require a comprehensive approach. In the current paper, we discuss the adoption and implementation processes of technological innovations noted in the criminal justice and correctional literature, as well as other disciplines, while using examples and lessons learned from a pilot project evaluating a new technology known as Pokket, which is a cloud-based service aimed at improving the re-entry process for returning citizens, service providers, and criminal justice agencies.Reduction in sensitivity in terms of cytotoxicity is responsible for therapy failure in patients undergoing chemotherapy with first-line anticancer drug molecules. A plethora of literature evidence points out that increased O-linked β-N-acetylglucosamine transferase (OGT) enzyme level/hyper-O-GlcNAcylation has direct implications in development of cancer and interferes with clinical outcomes of chemotherapy via interaction with oncogenic factors. The aim of this research was to evaluate the combination approach of anticancer drugs with an OGT inhibitor (OSMI-1) as an alternative way to resolve issues in the treatment of prostate cancer and assess the benefits offered by this approach. Effect of combination of doxorubicin and docetaxel with OSMI-1 on drug-induced cell death and synergism/antagonism was investigated using resazurin assay. Reduction in OGT enzyme level was evaluated using ELISA kit. Caspase-3/7 fluorescence assay was performed to detect apoptosis induction in PC-3 cells after treatment with the combinations of doxorubicin and OGT inhibitor to further understand the mechanism of cell death by concomitant treatment.
