ymptoms however, seems mediated by depressive symptoms. This would suggest that focusing on affective symptoms in occupational health may be effective to improve occupational functioning in persons with BPD.
Recently, the endothelial Activation and Stress Index (EASIX) score has been reported to predict overall survival (OS) after allogeneic stem cell transplantation. This study evaluated the prognostic role of EASIX score in patients with newly diagnosed multiple myeloma (MM).
This retrospective study analyzed the records of 1177 patients with newly diagnosed MM between February 2003 and December 2017 from three institutions in the Republic of Korea. Serum lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), creatinine, and platelet count at diagnosis were measured in all included patients. EASIX scores were calculated using the formula-LDH (U/L) × Creatinine (mg/dL) / platelet count (10
/L) and were evaluated based on log2 transformed values.
The median age of patients was 63 years (range, 22-92), and 495 patients (42.1%) underwent autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT). The median log2 EASIX score at diagnosis was 1.1 (IQR 0.3-2.3). Using maximally selected log-rank statistics, the optimal EASIX cutoff value for OS was 1.wly diagnosed MM.
EASIX score at diagnosis is a simple and strong predictor for OS in patients with newly diagnosed MM.
We aimed to describe an outbreak of cutaneous abscesses caused by Panton-Valentine leukocidin (PVL)-producing methicillin-susceptible Staphylococcus aureus (MSSA) among gold mine workers.
In February 2018, we retrospectively reviewed a random sample of 50 medical records from 243 cases and conducted face-to-face interviews using a structured questionnaire. Pus aspirates were sent to the National Institute for Communicable Diseases from prospectively-identified cases (November 2017-March 2018). Nasopharyngeal swabs were collected during a colonisation survey in February 2018. Staphylococcus aureus isolates were screened with a conventional PCR for lukS/F-PV. Pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) was performed to determine the genetic relatedness among the isolates. A sample of isolates were selected for whole genome sequencing (WGS). We conducted an assessment on biological risks associated with mining activities.
From January 2017 to February 2018, 10% (350/3582) of mine workers sought care for cutanesurface.
PVL-producing MSSA caused an outbreak of cutaneous abscesses among underground workers at a gold mining company. To our knowledge, no other outbreaks of PVL-producing S. aureus involving skin and soft tissue infections have been reported in mining facilities in South Africa. We recommend that worker awareness of infection prevention and control practices be strengthened.

Several works suggest the importance of autophagy during esophageal carcinoma development. The aim of the study is to construct a scoring system according to the expression profiles of major autophagy-related genes (ARGs) among esophageal carcinoma cases.
The Cancer Genome Atlas was employed to obtain the esophageal carcinoma data. Thereafter, the online database Oncolnc ( http//www.oncolnc.org/ ) was employed to verify the accuracy of our results. According to our results, the included ARGs were related to overall survival (OS).
We detected the expression patterns of ARG within esophageal carcinoma and normal esophageal tissues. In addition, we identified the autophagy related gene set, including 14 genes displaying remarkable significance in predicting the esophageal carcinoma prognosis. The cox regression results showed that, 7 ARGs (including TBK1, ATG5, HSP90AB1, VAMP7, DNAJB1, GABARAPL2, and MAP2K7) were screened to calculate the ARGs scores. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/etc-159.html Typically, patients with higher ARGs scores were associated with poorer OS. Moreover, the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis suggested that, ARGs accurately distinguished the healthy people from esophageal carcinoma patients, with the area under curve (AUC) value of > 0.6.
A scoring system is constructed in this study based on the main ARGs, which accurately predicts the outcomes for esophageal carcinoma.

Neisseria macacae was discovered in the oral cavity of monkeys in 1983. In humans, it has been isolated from the upper respiratory tract of neutropenic patients. However, only two cases of N. macacae bacteremia have been reported in a 65-year-old man with infective endocarditis and a 5-month-old child with fever and petechiae. There are no reports of infections in cancer patients. Here, we present two cases of N. macacae bacteremia in cancer patients.
In the first case, a 42-year-old woman who underwent ovarian cancer surgery presented with duodenal invasion associated with multiple lymph node metastasis. N. macacae was isolated from her blood culture and identified using matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight (MALDI-TOF) mass spectrometry (MS). In the second case, a 69-year-old woman with a long-standing history of esophagogastric junction cancer presented with fever. She had stage IVB cancer with lung, bone, and multiple lymph node metastasis. The last chemotherapy was administered 5es such as N. macacae despite not having contact with monkeys.
This, to our knowledge, is the first report of N. macacae bacteremia in cancer patients. Both patients, mucosal damage was observed in the upper gastrointestinal tract. Therefore, exclusion diagnosis suggested that bacteremia invasion was caused by mucosal rupture in both cases. Both cases responded well to treatment with β-lactam antibiotics and improved after 2 weeks. Modifying the treatment based on the source of the infection may shorten the treatment period. Therefore, further research on N. macacae bacteremia is necessary. Immunocompromised patients such as those with cancer are susceptible to mucosal damage by unusual bacterial species such as N. macacae despite not having contact with monkeys.
