Early detection of lung cancer is of importance since it can increase patients' chances of survival. To detect nodules accurately during screening, radiologists would commonly take the axial, coronal, and sagittal planes into account, rather than solely the axial plane in clinical evaluation. Inspired by clinical work, the paper aims to develop an accurate deep learning framework for nodule detection by a combination of multiple planes.
The nodule detection system is designed in two stages, multiplanar nodule candidate detection, multiscale false positive (FP) reduction. At the first stage, a deeply supervised encoder-decoder network is trained by axial, coronal, and sagittal slices for the candidate detection task. All possible nodule candidates from the three different planes are merged. To further refine results, a three-dimensional multiscale dense convolutional neural network that extracts multiscale contextual information is applied to remove non-nodules. In the public LIDC-IDRI dataset, 888 computealso for large lesions on this dataset. This demonstrates the effectiveness of our developed *** system for lung nodule detection.This study tested genetic microbial source tracking (MST) methods for identifying ruminant- (****) and human-associated (HF183/BacR287, BacHum) bacterial faecal contaminants in Ethiopia in a newly created regional faecal sample bank (n = 173). **** performed well, and its marker abundance was high (100% sensitivity (Sens), 95% specificity (Spec), median log10 8·1 marker equivalents (ME) g-1 ruminant faeces). Human-associated markers tested were less abundant in individual human samples (median log10 5·4 and 4·2 (ME + 1) g-1 ) and were not continuously detected (81% Sens, 91% Spec for BacHum; 77% Sens, 91% Spec for HF183/BacR287). Furthermore, the pig-associated Pig2Bac assay was included and performed excellent (100% Sens, 100% Spec). To evaluate the presence of MST targets in the soil microbiome, representative soil samples were tested during a whole seasonal cycle (n = 60). Only **** could be detected, but was limited to the dry season and to sites of higher anthropogenic influence (log10 3·0 to 4·9 (ME + 1) g-1 soil). In conclusion, the large differences in marker abundances between target and non-target faecal samples (median distances between distributions ≥log10 3 to ≥log10 7) and their absence in pristine soil indicate that all tested assays are suitable candidates for diverse MST applications in the Ethiopian area.
To establish weight-based dose bands for commonly used oral medicines, given in liquid forms, for children in the UK that could be used for prescribing and administering accurate and safe drug doses.
A list of commonly prescribed, oral liquid medications was established from the medication dispensing database of four UK hospitals and a primary care database. The evidence base of currently used dose regimens for each drug was identified from paediatric reference books, summary of product characteristics and the literature. Then, weight-based dose bands were developed and a modified Delphi process was used to achieve healthcare professional consensus about the suggested dose bands for each drug.
Forty-six experts in paediatric medicines participated in the Delphi process (mean years of experience 17.3 ± 9.4 [standard deviation]) and assessed 45 oral liquid drugs in total. Four categories of weight-based dose bands were established drugs with two dose bands (17.8%, 8/45), drugs with three dose bands (64.4%, 29/45), drugs with four dose bands (15.6%, 7/45) and drugs with five dose bands (2.2%, 1/45). The 46 participants reached consensus on all the suggested dose bands for 53.3% (24/45) of the drugs. Consensus was reached in the first round of the Delphi process for 91.7% (22/24) of the drugs and after two rounds for two drugs. No agreement was achieved on any of the suggested dose bands for 26.7% (12/45) of the drugs.
This study provides healthcare professionals with a set of recommended weight-based dose bands for commonly prescribed oral liquid drugs for children. These bands could establish the basis for change in clinical practice to reduce dosing errors and improve healthcare for children.

The SMN1 and SMN2 silencer element ISS-N1 is the target of the antisense oligonucleotide drug, Spinraza, which is the treatment against spinal muscular atrophy. However, limited knowledge about the nature of the splicing factors that bind to ISS-N1 and inhibit splicing exists. It is likely that the effect of Spinraza comes from blocking binding of these factors, but so far, an unbiased characterization has not been performed and only members of the hnRNP A1/A2 family have been identified by Western blot analysis and nuclear magnetic resonance to bind to this silencer. Employing an MS/MS-based approach and surface plasmon resonance imaging, we show for the first time that splicing factor SRSF10 binds to ISS-N1. Furthermore, using splice-switching oligonucleotides we modulated the splicing of the SRSF10 isoforms generating either the long or the short protein isoform of SRSF10 to regulate endogenous SMN2 exon 7 inclusion. We demonstrate that the isoforms of SRSF10 regulate SMN1 and SMN2 splicing with different strength correlating with the length of their RS domain. Our results suggest that the ratio between the SRSF10 isoforms is important for splicing regulation.Acantholytic dyskeratotic acanthoma is a rare variant of epidermal acanthoma. Although syringofibroadenomatous hyperplasia is known to occur as a reactive process with various dermatoses and cutaneous tumors, to date, there have been no reports of cases of acantholytic dyskeratotic acanthoma accompanying syringofibroadenomatous hyperplasia. Moreover, this case also includes the unusual finding of an increase in the mature sebocytes in the area of the syringofibroadenomatous hyperplasia.
