The combined use of 68Gallium [68GA]-DOTA-peptides and 18Fluorine-fluoro-2-deoxyglucose [18F-FDG] PET/TC scans in the work-up of pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (PanNETs) is controversial. This study aimed at assessing both tracers' capability to identify tumors and to assess its association with pathological predictors of recurrence.
Prospectively collected, preoperative, dual-tracer PET/CT scan data of G1-G2, non-metastatic, PanNETs that underwent surgery between January 2013 and October 2019 were retrospectively analyzed.
The final cohort consisted of 124 cases. There was an approximately equal distribution of males and females(50.8%/49.2%), and G1 and G2 tumors(49.2%/50.8%). The disease was detected in 122(98.4%) and 64(51.6%) cases by 68Ga-DOTATOC and by 18F-FDG PET/CT scans, respectively, with a combined sensitivity of 99.2%. 18F-FDG-positive examinations found G2 tumors more often than G1 (59.4% versus 40.6%;p = 0.036), and 18F-FDG-positive PanNETs were larger than negative ones (median tumor size 32 mm, IQR 21 versus 26 mm, IQR 20;p = 0.019). The median Ki67 for 18F-FDG-positive and -negative examinations was 3(IQR 4) and 2(IQR 4), respectively, (p = 0.029). At least one pathologic predictor of recurrence was present in 74.6% of 18F-FDG-positive cases (versus 56.7%;p = 0.039), whereas this was not found when dichotomizing the PanNETs by their dimensions (≤/> 20 mm). None of the two tracers predicted nodal metastasis. ROC curve analysis showed that 18F-FDG uptake higher than 4.2 had a sensitivity of 49.2%, and specificity of 73.3% for differentiating G1 from G2 (AUC=0.624, p=0.009).

Considerable progress has been made in recent years in generating external evidence underpinning interventions for children with developmental language disorder (DLD), but less is known about the practitioner decision-making process underpinning such interventions and whether such decisions are context specific or are internationally generalizable.
An online survey about clinical practice was developed by members of COST Action IS1406, an EU-funded research network, which included representation from 39 countries. The participants were 2,408 practitioners who answered questions in relation to their decision making for a specific child of their choosing with DLD. Analysis of open-ended questions was undertaken, and data were converted into codes for the purpose of quantitative analysis.
Although a wide range of intervention approaches and rationales were reported, the majority of responses referenced a client-centred approach. Level of functioning was used as a rationale only if a child had severe DLD. In this study, a liquid precursor (liquid-phase hydrosilane) for semiconducting Si, called liquid Si (liq-Si), was synthesized to establish a liquid pathway for fabricating Si. Although the liquid-to-solid Si conversion can be induced by heating at 400 °C, conversion without heating was realized herein by electron-beam (EB) irradiation. This study is the first to irradiate liq-Si with EB. Size-controllable Si nanodots, with diameters of the order of 100 nm, were directly deposited at any point by liquid-phase electron-beam-induced deposition (LP-EBID) with a beam diameter of 50 nm. This approach yielded less-contaminated deposits at the detection limit of energy-dispersive x-ray spectroscopy, as opposed to typical EBID, wherein carbon impurities up to 90% are found. The processing resolution of LP-EBID is potentially 1 nm or less. Therefore, this non-heating deposition technique realizes the direct writing of Si nanostructures and would be a powerful tool for Si nanofabrication.Quantitative ultrasound methods can provide valuable information about the microstructure of a material or tissue. In biological tissues, however, these assumptions are often violated because the microstructure of biological tissues is often heterogeneous and anisotropic. The microstructure of biological tissues can change with disease, and therefore accurate identification and description of a tissue's microstructure can offer important clinical insight. To address the challenge of evaluating the microstructure of biological tissues, here we introduce a novel parameter called the correlation length ratio (CLR), a ratio of lateral to axial correlation lengths for backscattered echo signals. We developed it to determine the presence of fiber-like structures in soft tissues by comparing this value in tissue to a threshold determined from a reference material that is homogeneous, isotropic, and provides diffuse scattering. We tested this novel parameter in phantoms with spherical scattering sources, in an anisotropic phantom (containing elongated fibers), and in human biceps muscle. We found that the CLR accurately detected the presence of elongated structures in both the anisotropic phantom and muscle. These results encourage further exploration of this novel parameter in microstructurally complex tissues.
